UK DLers: Are The Tabloids Staffed By Psychopaths?
Reading about what these people do to Harry and other royals and celebrities, I'm thinking someone needs to be seriously fucked up in order to take a job like that, where you're hiding in the bushes waiting to take photos of otherwise violating people's privacy and/or inventing stories about them.
I get that the Macedonian and Russian trolls do it for the money but what do the people who work for the tabloids get out of it? Seems like they'd need to find a pack of true psychopaths to do that sort of work. Or do people just hate the royal family that much?

It's not just the Royals. What are you talking about?

I meant do they hate the royal family so much that they consider it their duty to harass them as much as possible.

3. Media
If our collective society is a living organism, where better for the egomaniac to reside than on the radio or TV? To be the voice of the people, the face of their information and entertainment, and to influence our collective minds. Of course, once your self-worth becomes invariably tied to your ratings and popularity, you're in for an eventual downfall of depression and despair.
6. Journalist
Much in the same way that media attracts the egomaniac, journalism (and writing in general) can draw those who wish to be revered from a distance. The ability to embed ideas and conversations in paper, and have them be absorbed en masse by readers, has only grown with the proliferation of the Internet. Now everyone with a phone, ipad, laptop or Google glasses can connect to an instantaneous world of information that stretches across the planet in seconds. The champions of that information are the self-appointed revealers of "truth" – constantly seeking to influence others through their articulation and mental prowess.

The media is a business, with shareholders who have to be kept sweet. Reporting on the royal attendance at the opening of the Devon Flower Show does not sell papers, i.e., keep the shareholders sweet. Controversy, especially accompanied by pictures of the royals causing same, does. When Diana was alive, a freelance photog could make upwards of 50,000 quid for an especially lascivious photo, and the medium that printed it 20 or more times that in sales. The profession tends to attract those whose social skills are non-existent.

Writing is just like any labor.; you don't have to believe in what you're doing in order to commit to it. Perhaps the better question is what kind of sociopath reads the tabloids...

R10, I don't think she'll ever return. Harry has to break with them now, whether he wanted to or not. Looks like the courtiers won.
They stopped playing, anyway, so much for their victory. Now the BRF, the press, the people, have been cast as a heartless bunch of assholes willing to scapegoat a young family for their racism and snobbery
QEII, a woman I used to admire, is now someone I view as beneath contempt. I'm not much, Britian, but I do care about people and my family. Her? William, Charles? They've been exposed as the sociopaths they clearly are. I expect they'll demand the titles and cut them off.
Seeing as this is what they actually wanted, and that they've forced her hand, she's looking worse and worse. Well played, little American girl, bring them all down and expose them. You know they'll be flinging the dirt, no matter that you're the mother of Harry's child. Let it rip, BRF. Show us your colors.

The British press is horrible, a dying, racist, bitter country lashing-out as the rest of the world passes them by.
Unfortunately, they imported their disease to the U.S. in the '80s- and we've dealt with that hateful negativity ever since.
I first realized it when they kept The Spice Girls in the headlines every day and no one here gave a shit about them. British rags will search for obscure 'scandalous' stories in Podunk U.S. towns and publish them.

Wrong thread r12. And there are many people who want the BRF to "let it rip" alright, by throwing the two spoiled tantrum prone professional victims out on their backsides. Those two plotted all of this spectacle for months, they're the ones flinging mud and forcing hands. They'll fail and cry victim of course, by that point no one will buy it anymore.

No, hall monitor R16, it's not. I was responding to a poster I clearly designated.
You must work for the tabs, R16. All I see is a young couple, one of whom has lost a mother to this same crap, finally having had enough. You have called them what you wanted, but they're no victims, as their statement clearly shows. How sad for you that you are so blinded by hundreds of years of 'tradition' (asskissing your 'betters') that you can't distinguish abuse and abuser.
They want out. They made the right moves to do so. Everyone of you should be happy, but no, William is upset that his brother is breaking away from his control and leaks the news to the Sun. Everyone here knows what's going on. If my brother did that to me - went to the paper I was suing and betrayed how my little family wants to limit their roles to avoid the harassment - I'd make the public statement they did, too.
The only people who can't see who the real problem is are those already too poisoned to see reality. Sorry, troll, but this is one the BRF is losing.

[quote] All I see is a young couple, one of whom has lost a mother to this same crap,
Harry lost his mum 25 years ago. Millions of people lose a parent and don't behave the way her does, playing professional victim at nearly FORTY years of age! he's middle age ffs, not YOUNG by any stretch. You make it sound like he's 13.
Furthermore, Diana died at the hands of a speeding drunk driver, employed by her stupid nutcase bf who also perished. The press didn't push them into that car and take their seat belts off. Stop with the 'press killed Diana!' meme. Its long discredited.
And Harry and Meghan have leaked PLENTY to the press, again stop the victim crap. Both have used the press to their advantage when it suits them, just like the rest. What nonsense.
It isn't a 'game', no one is winning or losing. If H&M want to live in another country, they are free citizens and can make that choice. They are free to make their own way free of scrutiny - who's stopping them? No one. What is at stake: They will NOT be allowed to grift, merch and live off their titles and royal connections , if no longer living in the UK and being working Royals, supported by UK taxpayers. THAT's what they want to do, and the BRF and NO ONE else is having it.
This is the core issue, NOT the press, the BRF, racism, or other deflected issue. It's money, pure and simple.

And despite my best efforts and the existence of numerous other threads dedicated to the saga of the BRF, this thread has become just that.
I was hoping it would be a discussion of the types of people who gladly accept a job doing things like wiretapping private phone calls and hiding in the bushes in order to get gossip (versus exposing some sort of criminal activity) and what makes them tick.
Take 2

Clearly, Millennial friend, it takes someone willing to destroy another person's life. I'd think it's easy enough to extrapolate that it takes a sociopath/psychopath to do that.
Same goes for the people feeding that machine.

It’s capitalism that is psychopathic/sociopathic. To “succeed” (aka, make lots of money), it is necessary to be sociopathic and unfeeling towards normal human emotions of caring and empathy.

R12-- I sure hope you are being paid to post, otherwise I feel really sorry for you.
Whatever affection the Brits had for the Sussex pair has gone to shit in the last 48 hours. It does not matter what the rest of the world thinks because the titles and styles that the Sussex pair need to become "financially independent" are dependent on the goodwill on the British people. If public demands it, they Queen is not going to risk the future of the Monarchy by letting them keep their "goodies". And face it, no one gives a shit about Mr and Mrs Henry Mountbatten-Windsor.

Harry and Meghan will be “fascinating” and followed with or without the royal trappings for the rest of our lifetimes. People have not invested 35 years watching Harry’s story to just turn it off. His mother is a true icon and to pretend he is just a “spare” like Andrew ignores the power she held by extension her sons still hold on the world.

While there are some truly great journalists out there looking to shine light on various issues, I believe a disproportionate amount of them are narcissistic psychopaths. Some of the worst are the members of the American political media. Read up on how political journalists repeatedly misquoted and told straight up lies about Al Gore during the 2000 election because they didn't like him. Or how they helped push the weapons of mass destruction bs. And of course we all know how much the press let Trump get away with back in 2016. Yes the entertainment press in the UK can be incredibly cruel to celebs and royals but they're really no more offensive than the American political media. I will admit that the American press is far gentler on celebrities than the British press is. I'm not for censorship or anything and a free press is essential but a lot of media people are assholes.

Free press does not mean slander, and willfully spreading misinformation which is exactly what the tabloids have been allowed to get away with and what Liz and Charles have failed to fight against, preferring to quietly amass their fortunes instead of leading their country into a new millennium.

And they don't lead anyone r25. They are figurehead Heads of State. They don't get involved in political or socio-political issues.

Fighting climate change is one thing, getting involved in spats with the free press re how they cover you is not.

Remember the name "Regular Bill" R30? That was long before Megs, when ol' Wills was giving the press hell for their coverage of Waity. He sure learned his lesson, didn't he? Turned to the same rabid dogs when it served his interest to keep the public from knowing about his petty little affair.
Fighting climate change and then trying to claim it's not political after you claimed they can't do political work is pretty lame. Throwing money at something to give prizes is not fighting climate change, btw, it's bullshit.
Spats? They call your kid a monkey and we'll see how spatty you are. There's good reason for those libel laws, isn't there? They used her letter and edited it to make it look bad - both violations and both slanderous. If it were me, I'd be escalating my spats into a full on body slam. They're just suing.
You got nothing, troll. Sit down.

The right wing UK press caters to cranky old farts who refuse to accept that the UK is no longer a world power, that we are a multicultural society, and that Brexit will be an act of national self harm. They publish clickbait constantly in order to increase their revenues, and at the same time spread wildly confected scare stories and conspiracy theories. The current mess with Harry and Meghan is a good example. She is getting the blame, and there are no prizes for guessing why. His role is that of pussywhipped victim.
