Big Plane Crash in Tehran

Uh oh, spaghetti O’s!!!

by Anonymousreply 90January 13, 2020 3:05 AM

Shit.

by Anonymousreply 1January 8, 2020 3:25 AM

It was a Ukrainian commercial jetliner.

Maybe Iranian ground defense panicked and shot it down? Or maybe it was a freak accident and was in the path of the strikes?

Or most likely a terrible coincidence.

by Anonymousreply 2January 8, 2020 3:39 AM

Most of the passengers have died.

by Anonymousreply 3January 8, 2020 3:44 AM

I wonder why the media is hesitant to report on this. This is potentially a way bigger deal than the missile strike itself if the plane was shot down.

by Anonymousreply 4January 8, 2020 3:48 AM

Wth would a Ukrainian plane be fling to I-ran? Beaches and gambling?

by Anonymousreply 10January 8, 2020 4:10 AM

Everything is a clusterfuck.

The Boeing 737-800, operated by Ukrainian International Airlines, took off from Imam Khomeini international airport at 6.12am Tehran time on Wednesday, after being delayed by almost an hour. It took off to the west, but never made it above 8,000ft and went down about 10 minutes later, according to flight-tracking websites.

Boeing 737-800 that crashed in Tehran 'most popular model in skies' Read more A video purportedly of the crash circulated by Isna showed the aircraft burning as it fell from the sky.

Iranian officials said the plane’s engine had caught fire, causing the pilot to lose control. A statement initially posted on the website of the Ukrainian embassy in Iran ruled out an act of terror and said the crash had been caused by an engine malfunction. However, this was later redacted, with the embassy stating that all information would be provided by an official commission.

The black box containing vital records of how the plane crashed has been located in a field among the debris outside Tehran, but Iran said it would not hand the device over to plane maker Boeing. It is not clear whether Iranian authorities are disputing the legality of handing over the black box to Boeing, a US company, or whether they are seeking to inspect the box themselves.

The news has fuelled speculation that there was something suspicious about the downing of the plane.

Wouldn't the missles they were lobbying obliterate this plane out of the air if it actually hit it? I tend to believe this was mechanical for that reason

by Anonymousreply 12January 8, 2020 12:49 PM

R12 have you seen the pictures? It is pretty much obliterated.

How anyone can think this is a coincidence is beyond me. Use your fucking brain.

by Anonymousreply 13January 8, 2020 12:51 PM

r13 Yea because it slammed into the ground, i'm talking about completely destroyed in the air. Use your fucking brain.

by Anonymousreply 14January 8, 2020 12:53 PM

R12/r14 is right. A missile (even a small one or one that partially hit it) would have pretty much destroyed the plane in flight, since it would have compromised the plane’s structure. It was obviously intact when it went down. The reason so many people think the TWA 800 was a missile attack was that it broke up before it crashed.

by Anonymousreply 15January 8, 2020 1:03 PM

Iranian incompetence. And you all think they're a threat. They couldn't even kill Salman Rushdie ffs. Sorry, everyone, but your dear, dear wish to see your own country fucked over will come to naught, this time.

by Anonymousreply 16January 8, 2020 1:07 PM

Hey, DL's Borises and Natashas:

Didn't Vlad and People's Glorious Republic of Russia shoot down a packed Ukraian passenger jetliner not too long ago? For daring to stray into Russkie airspace? Caused quite the international incident, if memory serves.

by Anonymousreply 17January 8, 2020 1:13 PM

Not the US?

by Anonymousreply 18January 8, 2020 1:14 PM

r17 That was an air Malaysia flight full of dutch people flying over Ukraine.

Some real dummies on this thread.

by Anonymousreply 20January 8, 2020 1:19 PM

I'm sure if the US shot it down, they would say that but Iran didn't.

Probably poor maintenance by Ukraine.

by Anonymousreply 21January 8, 2020 1:24 PM

Mea culpa, R19.

Now then: how about Korean Air Lines Flight 007 on 9/1/83, which killed 250-260 passengers?

by Anonymousreply 22January 8, 2020 1:29 PM

news said this morning that 60 passengers were Canadian

by Anonymousreply 23January 8, 2020 1:33 PM

Canada needs to bomb Iran NOW!!!

by Anonymousreply 24January 8, 2020 1:42 PM

I wonder if Iran will allow officials from Boeing to be involved in the investigation?

by Anonymousreply 26January 8, 2020 1:52 PM

It’s just too much of a coincidence for me to believe this was a random plane crash happening the same time missiles are being fired in Iran.

by Anonymousreply 27January 8, 2020 2:10 PM

Who shot it done then? Russians? to stir the pot?

by Anonymousreply 28January 8, 2020 2:14 PM

Exactly why Iran wants control of the black box. "The black box containing vital records of how the plane crashed has been located in a field among the debris outside Tehran, but Iran said it would not hand the device over to plane maker Boeing. It is not clear whether Iranian authorities are disputing the legality of handing over the black box to Boeing, a US company, or whether they are seeking to inspect the box themselves."

It really does NOT sound like an unfortunate coincidence - or at least they're handling it a way that MAY be oriented to give that impression WITHOUT actually saying it.

At least they aren't blaming the US for shooting the plane down...for now.

by Anonymousreply 33January 8, 2020 2:25 PM

The news said Zelensky will be going to inspect the crash site later today, blah blah blah. Maybe, just maybe, he will have an accident of some sort (ooops) and will not be able to dispute Donnie's "perfect phone call" claim. Appeasement and all.

by Anonymousreply 36January 8, 2020 2:56 PM

Boeing will NEVER get that black box from Iran, they can forget about it!

This will go on as a great unsolved mystery. I feel sorry for the families who cant find out what really happened because of international conflicts.

There were probably people aboard these flights getting trying to get the hell out of Iran.

by Anonymousreply 37January 8, 2020 3:29 PM

It was a rather new plane too, 2016 model. This is not the MAX but the very safe model that came before it.

by Anonymousreply 38January 8, 2020 3:48 PM

r25 they said no

by Anonymousreply 39January 8, 2020 4:36 PM

A missile certainly does not necessarily obliterate an aircraft in the air. Even an air to air missle shot purposefully at a large airliner does not simply blow it to pieces, unless the circumstances are just perfect for that. For instance, KAL007, the 747 shot down by the asshole Russians in 1983, was attacked by an air to air missle, which (as they are supposed to do) detonated when in proximity to its target. The plan received damage that no longer permitted safe control, leading to the fatal crash, but it continued to fly and maintained basic integrity after the hit.

This seems soooo suspicious, I can't help but think that the plan was either in the flight path for one of the ballistic missiles, and the close proximity of the missile's flight caused the jet to lose control (it wouldn't even have to hit it, just fly very close by, to cause this) or the jittery air defenses on the ground saw the plane come in and fired a SAM (surface to air missle) at it.

Remember this is all amateur hour for the Iranians. They have not been in a hot war in over 30 years, and their military is not the greatest, being politically suspect and subordinated to the Mullah Militia (the Republican Guard).

by Anonymousreply 40January 8, 2020 5:04 PM

It’s very strange, no Americans on that plane but over 60 Canadians...

by Anonymousreply 41January 8, 2020 5:10 PM

Why are there so Canadians on the plane?

Was likely Russia, they love operating during chaos.

by Anonymousreply 42January 8, 2020 5:19 PM

They could’ve been dual citizenship Canadians. I doubt they were white. Some people call Toronto, Theranto

by Anonymousreply 43January 8, 2020 5:21 PM

It's not in the least bit strange that are no Americans on a plane flying into or out of Iran.

"A video purportedly of the crash circulated by Isna showed the aircraft burning as it fell from the sky."

What a coincidence someone was up at 6am filming the sky...

by Anonymousreply 46January 8, 2020 5:52 PM

I saw the video last night -- it was hard to make out though. There is a light in the sky, but it's white and looks more like aircraft lights than a fire on a moving plane. Then the light disappears and a few seconds later the horizon lights up in a yellowish explosion. The weird thing was, the guys filming (with a smartphone it seemed) didn't jump or exclaim at all when the explosion occurred. It was on the BBC or the NYT website (I forget which).

by Anonymousreply 47January 8, 2020 6:09 PM

How odd that it happened while Iran was shooting ballistic missiles at Iraq (several of which did not hit their targets).

r51 So there's lots of Iranians in Toronto

by Anonymousreply 52January 9, 2020 3:49 AM

A sad and sick coincidence of bad timing. It's a safe bet it will turn out to be maintenance failure, or maybe pilot error. I only say pilot error because if commercial airliners flew entirely by software with no human participation, the already reduced risk of any kind of incident would be even greatly reduced,

That said, I have a friend who is a captain for United Airlines. He flew the Boeing 777 long haul, mainly (ORD) Chicago - (GRU) São Paulo, Brazil. During final approach on the inbound flight to Chicago, the wind direction reversed. The fucking auto pilot did nothing to change the flap settings, or whatever would need to be done. My friend told me he literally had to wrestle with the control stick thing to regain manual control of the flight surfaces. Even then, all the tyres blew on landing.

And in case anybody doesn't know (like, why *would* you know unless you work for an airline?), modern airplane tyres are double layered. So, when the outside tread snuffs it, there's another tread underneath the big one on the outside.

My friend told me that as he bid farewell to the passengers, some of the regulars gave him a look like, (& I quote), "Nearly bought the farm this time, lad!" His stories always fascinated me, being a human who doesn't have blood in my veins, but JP6. Flying into Tel Aviv can be a right fucking jubilee sometimes.

But I digress, as the bride said to her groom on their wedding night as she left the matrimonial bed to bake a cake. (Noel Coward)

by Anonymousreply 53January 9, 2020 7:10 AM

Thanks for that speedy investigation, R53.

by Anonymousreply 54January 9, 2020 7:32 AM

The problem is the plane was shown on fire while falling to the ground. And radio contact was lost immediately. That’s not pilot error.

by Anonymousreply 55January 9, 2020 11:21 AM

The death of so many civilians raises tensions.

The Iranians (justifiably) don’t trust the US (or Boeing).

The timing, coming right after the base attack, further heightens suspicion. Redoubles Iranian desire to see US exit region. Leaving Iran, Russia and Syria bolstered.

Plane was on fire (from anti aircraft fire?)

It was a [bold] Ukrainian [/bold] airline

by Anonymousreply 56January 9, 2020 11:44 AM

r56 What would be the point of Putin shooting down a plane full of Iranians? That wouldn't be the way to piss off Ukraine

by Anonymousreply 57January 9, 2020 1:32 PM

138 passengers on the plane were heading to Canada.

By the way, in a way, Trump indirectly caused this too. Not stretching here -- people die by accident during military operations quite often, and if he hadn't assassinated a high Iranian official, those people on that plane would still be alive. I'd be very upset right now if I were a Canadian.

by Anonymousreply 61January 9, 2020 4:19 PM

Trudeau's having a press conference now, he's being asked if the US is partially responsible.

by Anonymousreply 62January 9, 2020 7:00 PM

The US isn’t responsible.....Trump is. Trump has the blood of 100s if not 1000s on his hands. He’s pure evil.

by Anonymousreply 63January 9, 2020 7:39 PM

Well if Trump is responsible, R63, then the US is responsible. He's your idiot president.

by Anonymousreply 64January 9, 2020 7:49 PM

[quote]and if he hadn't assassinated a high Iranian official, those people on that plane would still be alive. I'd be very upset right now if I were a Canadian.

Assassinating a terrorist doesn’t warrant firing missiles at unoccupied military bases, risking civilian casualties, like Iran did when they fucked up and accidentally shot down an airliner.

This is nobody’s fault but Iran and their terrorist government’s.

by Anonymousreply 65January 9, 2020 8:34 PM

by Anonymousreply 70January 11, 2020 5:27 AM

This is why Iran can’t have nukes. They’re just so stupid they might fire them off “unintentionally”.

In addition to the terrorism and evilness and religious extremism of course.

by Anonymousreply 71January 11, 2020 5:50 AM

Iranain muslims now confessed it . They shot the plant . And media was blaming Trump

by Anonymousreply 72January 11, 2020 6:05 AM

Trump is to blame.

by Anonymousreply 73January 11, 2020 6:15 AM

Considering we did the same thing to an Iranian plane, we have no room to talk.

by Anonymousreply 74January 11, 2020 6:27 AM

Will Trump's cult ever get his number? He is a cruel, lying, sack of shit. I can not understand how people don't see it.

by Anonymousreply 75January 11, 2020 6:30 AM

Why do we care again?

by Anonymousreply 76January 11, 2020 2:20 PM

Trump isn't to blame for this, sorry. The Iranians shot the plane full of people down; not Trump.

There's plenty of reasons to despise Trump but this isn't one of them.

It's immature to try to blame EVERYTHING on him. Grow up people.

by Anonymousreply 77January 11, 2020 2:34 PM

The Iranians chose to directly launch missiles from their state into Iraq to attack American targets as a show of force. Then in their paranoia about an American reprisal they shot down a passenger jet (which should have been grounded in any case if they were thinking this through). They can blame the US all they want and try to claim that the plane turned towards an air base (sure Jan) but the fact is, they shot it down, with their ammo, intentionally, because they aren't as smart as they seem to think they are.

They have the blood of all those dead Canadians on their hands.

They also have the blood of all the dead Iranians - not just the ones in the plane, but the 30+ ones who were trampled because they forced people to go to the funeral march of a military leader by closing businesses and telling people to get in the streets, for their photo op.

by Anonymousreply 78January 11, 2020 2:42 PM

Is there still a bounty on Trump’s head?

by Anonymousreply 79January 11, 2020 5:56 PM

r77 There are no winners here obviously, but the plane would not have been shot down if Trump never attacked Iran. The real culprit is Trump's fearmongering.

by Anonymousreply 80January 11, 2020 7:53 PM

r80 no, the real culprit are the people who shot down the plane. In this case, Iran.

Lol, R85. I'm from an actual military family that has sacrificed a shit-ton for this country. And its is people like me who actually move this country forward when it comes to ethics and civil rights.

If you love your child, your students, your pets, or any other being you're responsible for, you OWE it to them to discipline them, to show them the right way to go. If you don't, you get a Donald J. I'm proud of my country. I love my country so much, it would be irresponsible and unethical NOT to try to correct her when she's wrong.
