To be fair, the dark roots and shitty peroxide hair trend was everywhere this year.
Which doesn't make it less awful.

The Twitterverse is all OVER this.

I ask every year and nobody seems to have an answer: why is Washington constantly at these events? What has she done lately? Her show was years ago.

J Lo arrived gift wrapped.
Tim Gunn might have described this as "a lot of look."

Sorry. I like J Lo’s dress.

Is Taron Egerton actually winning the Oscar? I wouldn’t have thought so before today, but he’s campaigning like mad and his main competition looked ready to drop dead from an overdose while giving his acceptance speech, so I’m thinking it might just happen.
I’m so relieved that J. Lo’s Oscar hopes died tonight. If she couldn’t win an award from the most shameless starfuckers imaginable, she doesn’t have a hope of beating Academy Governor Laura Dern when she has home field advantage.
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 6, 2020 5:06 AM |
Renee won?
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 6, 2020 5:06 AM |
I think Best Actor is Joaquin's to lose. Tonight proved that. JOKER was crazy successful world wide and Phoenix is respected by many (if not all) of his peers.
OTOH, Adam Driver is also having a major year.
I don't see Egerton as serious competition.

That woman Jennifer lahmers who is on the new revamp of Extra (with Billy Bush) is absolutely stunning — she was working the red carpet and was better looking than most of the actresses.

As usual that ditch pig Kathy Griffin tries to cash in on the moment. She's a pimp. The things she said about Zellweger in her act were not forgivable. Besides the point. She has to do more damage to her now by revealing that Renee is a kind woman. Like we can't tell?
by Anonymous | reply 15 | January 6, 2020 6:50 AM |
Dear lord, that picture of Aniston at R8 is HIDEOUS!
She is definitely no longer the "fresh" ingenue. She's a hag.
And if you look closely, her colorist missed a spot. There's a patch of gray hair, that's plainly visible.
Yikes!

Yes, Laura Dern is an Oscar shoo-in.
by Anonymous | reply 17 | January 6, 2020 7:03 AM |
No one mentioned a Ricky joke I liked. He said Leo DC right to his face took his girlfriend to see The Irishman and by the time is was over she was too old for him. Leo smiled but you know it was an act....
by Anonymous | reply 18 | January 6, 2020 9:18 AM |
J Lo was never the front runner. It was always Dern. She’s just a lock nomination. Everyone loved her in Hustlers. I thought she was wonderful to watch. She doesn’t seem to take it serious and seems gracious to even be nominated. People are being harsh. She was very humble on the red carpet and even looked baffled when her name came up while announcing the nominated actresses in her category.

by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 6, 2020 9:54 AM |
I had an orgasm after learning that The Irishman won no Globe! hahahahahahahahahaha. Fuck that snoozefest, tedious voice-over-to-death shit.

R15 Renee was a coke whore at that point. I adore my Kathy
by Anonymous | reply 29 | January 6, 2020 9:58 AM |
r19, Jlo always comes across that way to me. To me Jlo is a natural. The camera just loves her, and she has such a personality, charisma, and beauty. Is she the greatest thespian? No. But she's an entertainer first and I don't merely mean because she's also a pop diva. She is an entertainer, from movies, tv, late night interviews, cosmetic brands, singing. And a very good actress in the right role.
Also, I think hollywood has this sort of bias towards stars who do quote, unquote low brow media and it hurts them when they deliver truly groundbreaking performances. Its usually stars of color or gay that get this treatment but yet the white elite like Brad, Angelina and Clooney and gang can make bomb after bomb, and have made shitty movies as well cloaked in "intellectualism" and aren't treated the same way.
by Anonymous | reply 30 | January 6, 2020 9:59 AM |
You seem very easily triggered r28 but perhaps your night wasn’t a total waste?
by Anonymous | reply 31 | January 6, 2020 10:02 AM |
I loved Egerton's performance in Rocketman and am glad he won, but he doesn't stand a chance against Phoenix and Driver at the Oscars. He'll get an Oscar nom, for sure but I think even he knows he won't win. EJ is the one doing the campaigning.
These bitches never learn. Like Gaga last year, JLo showed up in a dress that said she expected to win. That, her over-exposure and that Movieline interview she did years ago trashing Gwyneth, Salma Hayek and Cameron Diaz is why she doesn't have a prayer at winning an Oscar. Benny Medina is good, but he's not that good. Nobody likes Jlo for a reason. The stories of her thinking she was better than everyone else date back to her Fly Girl days.

I remember the year Renee won her Oscar she was on the red carpet someone asked how she felt about people saying her performance reminding them of Granny Clambett. She was very gracious and said she took it as a compliment.
I also remember there was a big to do the Academy breaking tradition and have Tom Cruise give the award to the expected winner Renee..they ended up letting Chris Cooper do it but I always wondered why cruise was going to do it. Was it because he felt he gave her the first big break?
by Anonymous | reply 36 | January 6, 2020 11:01 AM |
Not even the meanest DLer would say something bad about a charity to help world hunger. At least his kids are trying to do some good instead of becoming ‘ models ‘ like some other unemployable celebrity children. Pierce must be really a good guy to stay with a wife that has gained weight.

by Anonymous | reply 40 | January 6, 2020 11:42 AM |
Some people think it is key to winning the award is giving good speeches. That is what I think is problem with Renee and Phoenix. They were straining to give a good speech while being a little drunk or high. I fast forwarded most of it I couldn’t watch. What I hate about Phoenix’s speech is he was giving shade to others that night being political. I think Patty, Cate and Laura were perfectly lovely....

I got half an hour into Judy... could take such a whitewashing of the truth from Micky Deans (a gay man) to the Judy character who no more resembled the reality of Garland at that stage of her life (or the poignance of her attempts to display her wrecked gargantuan talent) than and elephant resembles a giraffe- no fault of Renee I suppose who had to play it like an ABC movie of the week given the script.

The GG are the only awards show I watch other than music ones. They're usually fun. I thought it was a good show and they actually had bonafide stars. There are no more Pitts, DiCaprios, Witherspoons even Aniston level celebrities anymore. SM has killed their allure and the over saturation of streaming, cable etc.. have made them interchangeable.
The only thing missing that the GG usually gets right is reactions. When Pitt won they should have cut away to Aniston because you know that's what many wanted to see.
R12, yeah she's gorgeous. She used to be on local tv in NY and date that hot Instagram famous doctor.

R45, ScarJo is ostensibly playing Jennifer Jason Leigh in Marriage Story. It’s the story of the dissolution of Leigh and Baumbach’s marriage.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | January 6, 2020 2:41 PM |
R21 I actually thought just the opposite — it photographed badly but on TV (and probably in person) I thought it worked. I just wish she had worn her hair different (like in a low pony or bun with soft waves).
Also I saw shots of her laughing her ass off at Gervais’s jokes, so she may not be the humorless twat we think she is.
Is Dern’s mommy gonna campaign for her again? Has Renee stopped eating again?
by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 6, 2020 2:55 PM |
ScarJo's tiny lil mounds were hilarious. At least Patty's rounded white orbs were fabulous.

Gwyneth Paltrowis successful, wealthy, and respected (by Hollywood anyway.). Yet she still comes off as thirsty and desperate like any Instagram Ho. Why?
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 6, 2020 3:10 PM |
JLo is not respected by these Hollywood royalty. She’s seen as a brown girl from the hood who used to show her body in rap videos. She’s trash that got lucky, and she definitely did not deserve to win a GG. I saw Hustlers and it was mildly entertaining at best.

I love JLo for what she is, which is a dancer that got lucky and fucked her way to the middle, but she doesn’t belong in the same room as Meryl, Glen, or Bates. How dare the HFPA invite that Puerto Rican garbage to this respected event.
by Anonymous | reply 57 | January 6, 2020 3:36 PM |
Let’s remember JLo has sucked every dick in Hollywood to make her connections such as Sean “Puffy” Combs, Ben Affleck, Benjamin Bratt, and Marc Anthony. She has no “type” of man, she let everyone rawdog her pussy and ass. Hustlers was a perfect movie for her because she’s nothing more than a high paid prostitute.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | January 6, 2020 3:41 PM |

I've grown to sort of like Jennifer Lopez and her hustle. That said, I have never liked her in any film I've seen her in. Bad actress and surprisingly little chemistry with the male leads. I haven't seen Hustler so maybe she's better in it.
Never found Gwyneth Paltrow attractive, but she looked good. Always thought she looked old for her age, but that's leveled off. On the other hand, I always thought Aniston looked great up until recently. She is overdoing the fillers. I don't think she looked good at all last night.

by Anonymous | reply 95 | January 6, 2020 6:56 PM |
Renee was also up for another Golden Globe for that Beatrix Potter movie over 10 years ago. She’s continued to work since her Oscar win, but she definitely experienced the post Oscar jinx some actors go through. She was everywhere between Jerry Maguire and Cold Mountain, then basically very little. 15 years is an eternity in Hollywood to be out of the loop, so I do give her credit for the tenacity to come back. She admitted back stage she has nothing lined up after Judy. I think she’s just difficult to cast. May be time to do a cable or streaming show.

Hooking him up with Lahmers was exceptionally clever -- she's serious eye candy but also a trained reporter and can do the more serious stuff.

R113 Banderas has won the MAJOR critics awards moron. The only ones that matter. NY, LA and National Society of Film Critics. Driver will not win the Oscar. And Sandler will be making Happy Gilmore 2 before long. Banderas is not up for SAG, so it would be unprecedented for him to win an Oscar without the nomination in this category. But Regina King did it in her category last year. It’s a numbers game most of the time, you stupid twat.

Just finished watching this, here are my quick takes:
1. The Brosnan sons must be mentally retarded or otherwise cognitively deficient - worst Miss Golden Globes EVER! I mean, what was their problem? All they had to do was lead people off stage. I hope Daddy Pierce leaves them a big inheritance because they appear to be COMPLETELY USELESS.
2. Joaquin and Renee may have just talked themselves out of Oscar wins. The GGs are the callback for the Oscars. Someone will likely notify their agents that they didn't get the part. (And BIG REVEAL: Renee Zellwegger is BIT-TER! Eat something, luv.)
3. Everyone loves Brad Pitt, even his ex-wife, Jen Aniston (they should frankly just get back together). Sorry Angelina! You lose! Brad Pitt is winning his 2nd Oscar.
4. Don't get too excited, Taron - there's no Oscar nomination coming your way. Even your jaw muscles couldn't suck the dick of EVERYBODY in the Academy! Ridiculous that it didn't go to Eddie or Leo.
5. Michelle Williams ROCKS! (So does Patty Arquette!) Ricky Gervais is IRRELEVANT. With everything going on in the news he didn't have ONE Trump joke and could only rag on the liberal minded? Please go away. For good.
6. I don't think The Irishman is going to get the love that everybody thinks it will from The Academy. Just saying. And even though Pitt is a shoo-in to win, the Best Supporting Actor category is going to look a lot different that what predictors think it will. Just sayin'. And OUATIH is going to win BIG at The Oscars. Maybe even Best Picture.
That is all, I think. Oh, and...
7. Jason Mamoa looks like he smells bad. Please comb your hair. You can't play Aquaman forever. (Oh, and I guess that's the last we'll see of Kit Harrington.)
by Anonymous | reply 118 | January 6, 2020 11:48 PM |

[quote] I don't think The Irishman is going to get the love that everybody thinks it will from The Academy.
I disagree.
The Academy absolutely LOVES Scorcese and DeNiro. They'll probably win.
Don't forget, the Hollywood Foreign Press has completely different tastes from the Academy. They are foreign, after all.
The Academy would NEVER reward Egerton for that HAMMY and over-the-top performance in Rocketman. In fact, I don't think that Rocketman will get nominated for shit. Maybe for music. It's a far less superior movie than Bohemian Rhapsody.
I think that Driver and Phoenix are definitely going to get nominated for Oscars, along with Pitt.

I also think that Richard Jewell will be nominated, and that Kathy Bates could still win an Oscar.
As I said, the Academy voters are different from the Hollywood Foreign Press.
Interestingly, both groups seem to favor particular people, like Brad Pitt and Michelle Williams.
So I think that Michelle will also get an Academy nod.

Mania needs to get rid of the beard I have always liked Pitt and his speech be kind to someone stole my heart. He played the coolest badassest badass in OUATIH very well and I hope he wins an Oscar.
I’m not a big Tarim or Rocketman fan but I did like his dpeech and the nice things he said about the young boy from Jojo Rabbit. Now I’m hoping Phoenix, Adam,Antonio, Taran, and the Jojo kid get nominated.
I haven’t seen his latest movie but Eddie Murphy is a dick. All he does is talk about race race race and his wife or girlfriend is the whitest person in the room.

Murphy never talks about race.

There’s always quite an overlap between the Globes and the Oscars. It’s always been this way. Plus this year with the shortened award season, Oscar voters are more likely to rubber stamp Globe choices. I really don’t think the acting winners will be any different at the Oscars. Zellweger will benefit from a weak best actress field. Phoenix, Pitt and Dern will benefit from being nominated multiple times and finally win. Phoenix and Pitt itll be their fourth acting nominations, and Dern her third.
There is some suspense now for directing and acting with 1917 winning these at the globes. I’m thinking Scorsese will win a second time, considering he should’ve had a second win a long time ago. Pic I think now is between Once upon a time in Hollywood, 1917 and the Irishman.

Gervais is not required to make a Trump joke. Most people are exhausted hearing about Cheetolini every fucking day for the last three years. Pointing out the hypocrisy of Hollywood every once in a while is a good thing. Pointing out that we notice when celebs take private jets to environmental summits is a good thing.
[quote] Joaquin and Renee may have just talked themselves out of Oscar wins. The GGs are the callback for the Oscars. Someone will likely notify their agents that they didn't get the part.
LMAO. That doesn’t really happen anymore. If Affleck wasn’t cancelled for his bad behavior, you think an awkward speech is going scratch the chances of Phoenix and Zellweger? Please.
by Anonymous | reply 144 | January 7, 2020 2:13 AM |
It certainly does happen. The cast of Boyhood came off as the Griswolds at an early awards and only Arquette who was in a week category remained a contender. Michael Keaton gave a smug, obnoxious speech I believe it was at the Golden Globes and didn't win another award that season while Bird an won the other awards it was nominated for including Best Picture
by Anonymous | reply 145 | January 7, 2020 2:36 AM |
Maybe if there is a close race it might make a winner. Renee has it in the bag. I don’t know about best actor because I haven’t seen Driver or Antonio’s movies yet. One poster is obsessed with speeches every year he thinks the reason Jamie Fox won he did a good acceptance speech. Sometimes like in Renee’s case there is a clear winner. Kate Winslet gave awkward speech over and over but still won.
I’m not a big Joker fan and being a big Heath fan didn’t get dazzled by Phoenix’s performance this is before the speech. He might have pissed the other actors who use a jet like a taxi but how many are there I say no more than 5. He pissed me off when he kinda dismissed others who said we all need to get out in vote in2020. Also if you feel so passionately about a cause you should be sober when you speak about it.
by Anonymous | reply 146 | January 7, 2020 3:00 AM |
R144is correct. Phoenix is a lock. People expect him to be out there and he is loved by all the right people. Driver and his wife were arguing throughout the show and were overheard. The wife openly insulted Eddie Murphy who was at their table and made crude remarks about Dern, the fleabag woman and Charlize Theron. What were they putting in the drinks? This will do more damage to his chances than Phoenix rambling on stage. Jennifer Jason Leigh is also said to be campaigning against Marriage Story. She was offended by the Ridgemont High allusions and Noah’s rewriting of their painful history.

I really disliked her on The Crown, though, R158. I just couldn’t stop thinking about it whilst watching. “It’s that nut, HBC”. She’s so over the top in every role.
How they went from that really beautiful actress to her is mind boggling.
It made me think Margaret was a really pathetic person. Such a waste of life. Just because she was second born didn’t automatically mean you were a second-class citizen. Imagine all the good works she might have done if she hadn’t spent her time drunk and bitter.
Yes, I should go to The Crown thread.

I saw Hustlers twice on a two very long flights over the holidays. I really do not like JLO and would go far as to say strongly dislike her. I think she has earned her GG nom & Oscar nom. The second viewing I was looking for the scene where you can say, "that's where she earned the Oscar nom" and I think it's towards the end of the movie when she & Wu are leaving the jail. I was shocked how good she was. Prior to seeing the film, I thought they were just checking the diversity boxes, but she's legit.

Renee didn't eat for days probably and got drunk fast on a few sips of booze. Or maybe the drinks mixed with her meds etc...
Brad was such a good actor on stage, if people really knew what an asshole he is when he drank, and from his speech last night, safe to say, he fell off the wagon. Jennifer smirked at his remarks lol.

I agree that it is unlikely anyone will be denied an Oscar because of a drunken award speech, especially given that Phoenix said all the woke things people wanted to hear. I don't even think Renee was drunk--I think she's just weird as always. She will absolutely win it, but after winning this, phoenix is now more likely to win, and he was slightly the frontrunner coming in. I think he's now ahead of Driver significantly.

Sure, R144. Picking on actors - some of the most marginalised workers on the planet - in favour of people who don’t even believe in climate change while the planet burns out of control, sometimes within the very locality he was within, that is worthy and hilarious. He’s the hypocrites’ hypocrite - making his political statements upfront then trying to silence everyone else to become the darling of the right. It didn’t work. Hollywood was unbowed standing up for the environment, a women’s right to choose (which is entwined with gay men’s right to exist), oh, and kindness. Apple and their ilk should be taken to task but pretending that actors - even the well-heeled ones in that room - are power brokers on that level is kind of stupid. THE CONSUMER, collectively, has more power.
What was he doing? He could’ve demonstrated his value by telling an actual joke. And, believe me, your hero Ricky Gervais won’t be swimming home to London. He’s not going to be the saviour of our planet. And anyone who passes up a joke about an $80M bounty being placed on Trump’s soft head isn’t interested in comedy. He hasn’t a grain of the bravery of Michelle Williams - who has addressed Congress before - or Patricia Arquette. Actors and creatives of their stature do so by locating and speaking from their true selves - hence their fine work, fearlessness and fullness of expression.
All Gervais is known for are fart and dick jokes, appropriately.

On an episode of "My Life on the D List" (Kathy Griffin's reality show), Kathy received a gift basket from Renee Zellweger. This was after Kathy called Renee a sweaty, puffy coke whore. RZ got compared to Granny Clampett and took it without having a mental breakdown. I can believe that Renee was nice to KG after KG's Trump head PR disaster. OK. Here's my take on potential nominees: Erivo for Harriet. Rene for Judy. ScarJo for Marriage Story. Saorise Ronan for Little Women. Awkwafina for The Farewell. Now Charliize may wriggle in there for Bombshell, but it's getting terrible reviews.
The Male category is going to be tough. Christian Bale was pretty awesome in Ford vs Ferrari. Antonio Banderas, for sure. Will be interesting to see if Jamie Foxx or Michael B. Jordan do anything with Just Mercy. Joaquin for The Joker, and of course De Niro or Pacino for The Irishman. I don't think Leo will get a nomination. Taron Egerton, Eddie Murphy and Adam Driver will factor in, not sure.
Supporting Actor: Matt Damon, Brad Pitt, Tom Hanks, Joe Pesci, maybe Pacino, maybe Foxx.
Supporting actress: Kathy Bates, Margo Robbie, Annette Benning, Laura Dern, JLo.
Best Picture 1917, JoJo Rabbit, One Upon a Time in H'wood, Ford vs. Farrari, The Farewell, Little Women, Just Mercy, Harriet.

R190 I disagree with almost everything you've said. All of the acting categories seem to have 4 "locks" and best picture seems to have a top 7 already.
Best actress - Renee, ScarJo (for Marriage Story), Theron, and Ronan. The first three all have gotten GG, CC, SAG, and BAFTA noms, while Ronan has only missed SAG (although Little Women underperformed there so that could have a factor in her snub). The last slot is between Nyong'o (CC, SAG) Awkwafina (GG win, CC) and Erivo (GG, CC, SAG). I think it's a very close race between Nyong'o and Awkwafina for the nom, with Awkwafina just ahead at the moment.
Best actor - Phoenix, Driver, Leo, and Egerton. The first three all have gotten GG, CC, SAG, and BAFTA noms, while Egerton has only missed CC. The last slot is between Pryce (GG, BAFTA), Bale (GG, SAG), DeNiro (CC), and Banderas (GG, CC). I think Pryce is going to get it.
Supporting actress - Dern, Robbie (for Bombshell), JLo, ScarJo (for Jojo Rabbit). Dern and Robbie have never missed, getting GG, CC, SAG, and BAFTA noms while JLo and ScarJo each missed one (BAFTA and GG respectively). The last slot is between Pugh (CC, BAFTA), Kidman (SAG), Shuzhen (CC), and maybe Bates (GG). My guess is Pugh, with Shuzhen being a possible spoiler.
Supporting actor - Pitt, Pesci, Pacino, Hanks. The four of them have never missed, getting nominated at GG, CC, SAG, and BAFTA. The last slot is between Hopkins (CC, GG, BAFTA), Foxx (SAG), and Dafoe (CC). Hopkins should easily make it.
And then Best Picture - OUATIH, 1917, Parasite, Marriage Story, The Irishman, Joker, and Jojo Rabbit are an easy top 7. If there are more nominees, it will be between Ford v Ferrari, Little Women, The Farewell, and The Two Popes. I think though that they'll stick with the top 7 nominees and call it a day.

Really R147? Baumbach was referring to Fast Times At Ridgemont High in Marriage Story? He's got a nerve. I didn't make that connection when I saw the film because it would just be ludicrous to do so. JJL has a highly respectable body of work, nothing like the one-off teen comedy referred to in Marriage Story. What about Last Exit To Brooklyn?
I don't think she has to campaign against him very hard. Marriage Story is not a very enjoyable film anyway and, once seen, I never expected it to the broad support predicted by the early reviews. It didn't even get a Best Picture nom from the BAFTAs - and if they're not crawling up your ass, nobody in the American industry is either.

The Two Popes is available to watch. I saw it and I have to agree, R207, Hopkins is Hopkins...which is not a bad thing....but Pryce is excellent and very believable. I had no idea Pope Francis was engaged to be married...or that he loved to do the Argentine tango...
by Anonymous | reply 209 | January 7, 2020 6:45 PM |
Of course r208 has tp be racist in the process. Of course.
by Anonymous | reply 210 | January 7, 2020 6:49 PM |
I cringe when winners speechify about politics or current events. It just provides fuel to the liberal-haters.
by Anonymous | reply 211 | January 7, 2020 6:50 PM |
JUDY wasn't Judy Garland, but it was fairly compelling drama. I cringe when I hear Rene croaking out Judy's songs but she did manage some nice moments, despite the squinting throughout (one of Garland's trademarks was her big, luminous eyes.) Anyway, it's a pretty weak year for Actresses so it's possible she could walk off with the Oscar.

Everything is fuel for the liberal haters. No point it letting that affect how you live.
by Anonymous | reply 214 | January 7, 2020 7:02 PM |
That is giving them power they certainly don’t deserve.
by Anonymous | reply 215 | January 7, 2020 7:03 PM |
I’m convinced Jared Harris was inside his wife for at least 2/3rds of the entire telecast.
by Anonymous | reply 216 | January 7, 2020 7:29 PM |
Funny, I thought Hopkins gave the more notable performance in Two Popes (giving that German gruff temper/impatience under most of his line delivery), while Pryce keeps benefiting more from audiences responding to his character's story rather than his own performance (which is fine, understated, but hardly the showy part). I'm not sure either should be nominated, especially if there's a chance Antonio Banderas' exquisite work might not be.
by Anonymous | reply 217 | January 7, 2020 7:47 PM |
I’m glad JoJo Rabbit Director got nominated for DGA. I hope it has a better showing at The Oscars than people expect I l liked Irishman and Once Upon but JoJo was much entertaining.
by Anonymous | reply 218 | January 7, 2020 8:20 PM |
R198 I think Erivo will get the fifth slot for actress, if only because her film is recent. Us is a fine film, but I wasn’t thinking of an Oscar nominated performance watching Lupita in it. Alfre Woodard has some buzz, but that’s all but evaporated at this point.
Banderas is a lock for a nom and voters love Almodovar. He’s won all the major film critics awards and Cannes. Egerton or Leo might be vulnerable, paving the way for Pryce and Bale.
by Anonymous | reply 219 | January 7, 2020 9:31 PM |
Cannes usually doesn’t mean a thing. The only time I remember a winner just getting nominated is Emily Watson.
by Anonymous | reply 220 | January 7, 2020 9:48 PM |
Leo is not vulnerable. He should be winning the thing, were it not for his win for The Revenant. They should give it to him anyway - best performance in the pack by far.
by Anonymous | reply 221 | January 7, 2020 9:54 PM |
I feel sorry for these people who think Jo Jo Rabbit is a great film because, y'know, it's not.
by Anonymous | reply 222 | January 7, 2020 9:57 PM |
I’m rooting for the little boy in JonJo Rabbit. This was his first performance. Am I alone ?
by Anonymous | reply 223 | January 7, 2020 9:58 PM |
R222 in your opinion , dear. Then again I love last year’s winner Green Book another film DL loved to hate.
by Anonymous | reply 224 | January 7, 2020 10:10 PM |
R221 Leo didn’t win the Globe, which he should’ve taken with all his starpower. But there’s one sure bet actor actress who usually gets left out come nominations morning. My hunch is Leo will get in, but voters could easily sway to Pryce or Bale.
by Anonymous | reply 225 | January 7, 2020 10:35 PM |
The nominees SHOULD BE
DiCaprio
Bale
Banderas
Driver
Phoenix
... if I had to change one I would swap Bale for Murphy. Not Egerton. This is just ridiculous
by Anonymous | reply 226 | January 7, 2020 10:58 PM |
Again, I feel so sorry for you, R224. But mostly for your friends and family.
by Anonymous | reply 227 | January 7, 2020 11:09 PM |
I have blocked r224 along with the clearly unhinged JLo hater. What a freak.
by Anonymous | reply 228 | January 8, 2020 12:26 AM |
Well, l feel sorry for you for feeling sorry for me. I just finished the new Star Wars and it wasn’t that bad. So many more I want to see the Mr Rogers movie, Ford v Ferrari, Uncut Gems. I hate people who I can’t stand Adam Sandler and refuse to see the movie. So many here hate Sandler but I know nothing about him he may be an okay guy in real life. I will definitely see 1917 on Friday.

Golden Globes are buyable and none of the voters are in the Academy.
The Globes don’t represent what voters in any real organization will do.
by Anonymous | reply 230 | January 8, 2020 1:41 AM |
R26 is the partisan Republican Propaganda Troll, who who’s been toxifying all the Golden Globes threads.
It doesn’t attack Trump or Trump’s shithead sons for playing liberal massacre videos at their American Idiot rallies, so pay it no mind.
by Anonymous | reply 231 | January 8, 2020 2:49 AM |
R230 there’s always been a strong overlap in Globes and Oscar choices. It’s always been this way since the Globes inception in 1944.
by Anonymous | reply 232 | January 8, 2020 2:52 AM |
Jonathan Pryce irrationally irritates me because of his terrible character and waste of time in Game of Thrones (I think somebody else mentioned it also in this thread so I am not alone)
by Anonymous | reply 233 | January 8, 2020 8:36 AM |
Adam Sandler is good to his friends so that's something
by Anonymous | reply 234 | January 8, 2020 8:37 AM |
These threads are the closest that I'll get to these dumb award shows. I CANNOT imagine retaining such useless information as who won the best actor award in 96 or how many critic's choice awards each actor won this year--especially if I'm not getting paid for it.
Good LORD R198.
by Anonymous | reply 235 | January 8, 2020 11:07 AM |
Both Matt Damon and Christian Bale were superb and both deserve nominations in Best Actor and Supporting Actor categories. Personally, I felt Bale was the guy who nailed the Best Actor thing. So I'm with Banderas, Bale, De Niro, and Egerton as locks. I hope Jamie Bell gets a nod in Supporting. I just like him.
by Anonymous | reply 236 | January 8, 2020 1:13 PM |
Supporting actor nods will go to Brad Pitt, for sure, and Al Pacino. You need to watch out for the stealth Best Actor nomination of Adam Sandler for Uncut Gems. Unbelievable. And Pesci is definitely in the mix for Supporting.
by Anonymous | reply 237 | January 8, 2020 1:16 PM |
Thanks for that, r231. These threads were definitely getting toxic with imbecilic troll energy.
by Anonymous | reply 238 | January 8, 2020 3:01 PM |
I haven’t seen Uncut Gems but if Jim Carrey can’t get an nomination either can Sandler. Am I the only one rooting for the little boy from Jo Jo Rabbit ?
by Anonymous | reply 239 | January 8, 2020 6:51 PM |
Meryl should have got it for Big Little Lies. Sick of that phony Arquette.

I think you appreciate Patricia’s performance more if you don’t know the details of the case. I do and think of the mother as a horrible monster and Patty plays her as a caring mother who makes a few mistakes. Meryl was very good in the first episode and so so in last episode the highly hyped courtroom scene with Kidman. The second season isn’t highly regarded by anyone.
by Anonymous | reply 242 | January 8, 2020 7:14 PM |
Egerton is a lock for a nomination. In addition to the GG win and SAG nom, which are pretty much predictors of an Oscar nod, the guy sang, acted and danced and gave a phenomenal performance. He's not only been nominated for acting awards, he's been nominated for a Grammy, AND he has Elton John campaigning on his behalf. Phoenix's performance was great, but he's clearly an erratic and eccentric guy playing an erratic and eccentric character, a character that's already won an actor an Oscar. Watch Youtube clips of Egerton singing Your Song or when he tells his mother he's gay or any other scene in rehab. On top of that, he's playing someone still alive and didn't do a Jaimie Foxx-ish impression.
I predict DiCaprio gets snubbed. He's had his time and already has an Oscar.
I'd love to see Jamie Bell be nominated as well. It was a sweet, understated performance that was the definition of supporting. Won't happen, but it would be nice.
Scarjo is not a lock for anything. Her defense of Woody Allen and other tone-death commentary is going to hurt her. I see Lupita sneaking in there.
by Anonymous | reply 243 | January 8, 2020 7:30 PM |
Scarbo will get in. Probably lead actress. She has two well regarded performances and she’s never been nominated.
by Anonymous | reply 244 | January 8, 2020 7:43 PM |
ScarJo was nothing special in that film. Saw it, not impressed.
by Anonymous | reply 245 | January 8, 2020 8:07 PM |
The Academy loves Woody and has given him many awards along with his actors. Although r he has had many recent failures many believe he is a scumbag but not one big enough to be a childmolester.
by Anonymous | reply 246 | January 8, 2020 8:15 PM |
What movie are you talking about the always good Jamie Bell getting nominated for ? The face tattoo movie or Rocketman ? He was very good in the Elton John movie unless the film has a big showing ( Best Picture etc) I think this will be another year he should have been but wasn’t.
by Anonymous | reply 247 | January 8, 2020 8:22 PM |
Scarlett got 2 SAG nominations surely she will get at least one. Didn’t she win a Tony so there are people who think she can act.. I thought she was good in Jo Jo Rabbit but I preferred the Jewish girl who also gave an award worthy performance last year.
by Anonymous | reply 248 | January 8, 2020 8:29 PM |
Was that Jessica Harper sitting behind Leo di C at the Golden Globes?
by Anonymous | reply 249 | January 8, 2020 9:02 PM |
I thought Scarlett was good as the good German in "Jojo Rabbit" too. Cool clothes too.
by Anonymous | reply 250 | January 9, 2020 2:02 AM |
R3, it's been everywhere for years. It always makes a person look cheap, like they can't afford a stylist. Have no idea who decided this was stylish.
by Anonymous | reply 251 | January 9, 2020 2:23 AM |
I also liked DL Fave Sam Rockwell as a good and secretly gay Nazi in Jojo Rabbit. I hope it wins as Best Cast at this weekend SAGs but it probably won’t.
by Anonymous | reply 252 | January 9, 2020 2:39 AM |
^^The SAG Awards will be televised Sunday, Jan. 19, not this weekend. I have until noon Jan. 17 to submit my ballot.
by Anonymous | reply 253 | January 9, 2020 2:55 AM |
Maybe avoid spoilers for those who haven’t seen the movies yet.
by Anonymous | reply 254 | January 9, 2020 2:58 AM |
R249 I spotted that too and googled it — she’s been married to Tim Rothman for 30 years — so no, she’s not acting again.
Shrewd one, she is — totally financially set for life. No wonder she stopped acting.
by Anonymous | reply 255 | January 9, 2020 6:20 AM |
No. of Hollywood Foreign Press voters: 87
That’s right — 87 people vote on the Golden Globes. Conceivably, someone in a category with 5 nominees can win with as few as 19 votes.

Wonder why Leo didn’t join everyone on stage when Once Upon A Time won Best Picture.
by Anonymous | reply 257 | January 9, 2020 11:01 AM |
Leo was probably drunk and high

I just saw 1917 and it should win every award. Before I saw this movie was hoping the kid from Jo Jo Rabbit would be the surprise nominee. Now I’m hoping for George ManCay.
by Anonymous | reply 260 | January 11, 2020 2:11 AM |
ManCay did nothing special in that film.
by Anonymous | reply 261 | January 11, 2020 2:50 AM |
Did nothing in that film ? Are you serious ? He carried that film and made Leo look like a pussy in The Revenant .
