Any knowledge of this town, or other old thermal spa towns in Arkansas? Any fans? Is there anything much to do besides relax? Is it just lower middle-class hetero fatties waddling around?
Yes dear, that is the raison d'etre of spa towns. And then what? Read a book on one's balcony?

I had to go there many years ago because a vendor for a banking infrastructure software package was headquartered there.
The actual hot springs are interesting if limited in appeal. Nothing else was.

I was there 2 years ago and stayed at the Arlington Hotel in OP's picture. (red roof)
We took the baths on bathhouse row. An interesting one-time experience.
Factoid: Amish and Mennonite families flock to the thermal baths in Hot Springs, AR. They also ride a lot of Amtrak long distance trains.

Hot Springs is trying to reinvent itself into another Asheville, with little success so far. Being in Arkansas is a severe disadvantage, although Eureka Springs has managed to do it.

R2, after the bath you get a massage. Then another bath if you want to. Yes, then, read a book on the balcony.
