The Pope Watches Carousel (Pope Smacks Asian Woman)

Omg, that looks so bad! But she probably grabbed him with an unholy grip and wouldn't let go.

LOL imagine believing that religious nonsense and having your living embodiment of God himself bitch-smack you -- that'll leave a mark (ON HER SOUL)

Fuck the pope

What a way to end the decade - MeToo'ing your adherent on camera. đ
by Anonymous | reply 7 | January 1, 2020 12:45 AM |
Immediately thought of the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II in St. Peter's Square in Vatican City where he was shot and wounded while entering the square. In those very quick few seconds, its indeterminable to realize the woman's intent, especially when she's grabbing and pulling with such force.
by Anonymous | reply 8 | January 1, 2020 12:47 AM |
Hahah, remember when Jesus smacked away that woman who grabbed his cloak?
by Anonymous | reply 9 | January 1, 2020 12:47 AM |
Her intent is obvious. "Me love you long time."
by Anonymous | reply 10 | January 1, 2020 12:49 AM |
Some are claiming he called her a "bruja." Spanish for witch
by Anonymous | reply 11 | January 1, 2020 12:51 AM |

She seemed kind of desperate. I bet she has terminal cancer and was hoping for a miracle. Wouldn't it be ironic if she found out that bitchsmack actually cured her?
by Anonymous | reply 14 | January 1, 2020 1:02 AM |
r14 Even funnier if that then counted towards those miracles he'll need in order to be declared a saint after his death.

Uh...he's the bishop of Rome, the leader of the Catholic Church.
Now tell us about you.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | January 1, 2020 2:49 AM |
She pulled him so hard he almost fell and to a frail old man like him that could have been fatal.
He should have bitch slapped her.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | January 1, 2020 4:08 AM |
Before he got to her I wondered at his patience with the damn phones thrust in his face. No mere mortal could handle all of that nonsense.

by Anonymous | reply 27 | January 1, 2020 4:36 AM |
LOL - shows his true colors. That isn't surprise or shock on his face - it is venom and disdain that someone dared to reach for him.
The look on that woman's face was not hatred or anger, but devotion and reverence who is the supposed earthly embodiment of their lord and savior.
It's like silly celebrities who moan and whine about paps. Of course, they're going to hound you once you're famous enough to matter. What do you expect when you manipulate people and use faith as a tool and weapon. Of course, you're going to have people who are so enraptured by your odious message and desperate to touch its earthly form.
I hope that video goes viral and people see that he isn't the kinder and gentler Pope, but as nasty and self-serving as they've all been. He's just better at pushing this particular image. Politics in the Vatican are as nasty as anywhere. People are fools to think that someone could possibly rise to the top of that stinkhole and continue to smell like a rose.

Did you see how FAST his expression changed from smiling and benevolent to vicious?
[quote]That aggressive bitch almost tore his fucking arm off.
Tore his arm off - LOL. She wasn't moving she was pressed against the barrier. She grabbed his arm and prevented him from moving away. It's not as if he was Usain Bolt running at full speed when she grabbed his hand. He was turning away from her and she grabbed his arm. Tore his arm off - give me a break.
As someone else noted, he parades in front of the masses regularly - touching his person is a thing for the faithful.
He's a tired old man whose mask slipped.

He actually has a thing about being touched, he's not much of a fan
by Anonymous | reply 41 | January 1, 2020 9:44 AM |
The woman literally grabbed him and dragged him backwards. I'm on team Francis for this one.
It's interesting because I lived in China for a year (I realise there's some discussion above over whether she is Chinese or Korean) and they have very different cultural notions of personal space and boundaries than we do. In some respects much more rigid, but when it comes to physical touching and communication with strangers, much more overbearing and permissive.
by Anonymous | reply 42 | January 1, 2020 9:46 AM |
Take that!
by Anonymous | reply 43 | January 1, 2020 10:05 AM |
It was brave of him to not be in the Pope Mobile. If you get my drift...
by Anonymous | reply 44 | January 1, 2020 10:08 AM |
Her rudeness was pretty epic and probably would qualify as assault in a lot of western countries. Forcefully yanking a very elderly person's arm is never a good idea. Hopefully, since she's Asian she's lost face in a major way.

by Anonymous | reply 48 | January 1, 2020 10:36 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 49 | January 1, 2020 10:37 AM |
He's old, he was probably tired & as other posters commented, grabbing or jerking the limbs of frail old people can easily result in fractures or breaks. He's probably too old for this meet & greet shit - just think of the germs he's exposed to, never mind aggressive asians. He should just ride around in the Pope Mobile, wave & call it good.
by Anonymous | reply 50 | January 1, 2020 10:49 AM |

by Anonymous | reply 72 | January 1, 2020 3:13 PM |
The problem is the notion that heâs hyped as some sort of special link to GOD. If he were considered a regular human mortal, she wouldnât have grabbed at him so desperately.
And he wouldnât have felt entitled to smack her. (Although I donât blame him.)
And for the last time, Iâll repeat the lessons we learned in preschool: Use your words. Donât put your hands on people.

by Anonymous | reply 74 | January 1, 2020 3:24 PM |
The pope was right. That woman is the embodiment of âaggressive Asian ladyâ. He taught her a thing about boundaries. Letâs hope it sticks.
As for the video of the pope pulling back his hands during the meet&greet: This is to keep things going! There are hundreds of people in line, and the only way to accommodate all is to make the briefest of contact, then send them on their way again.
by Anonymous | reply 75 | January 1, 2020 3:31 PM |

[quote] He's just an old man. What is so special about him? Like God listens more to him? You don't think he's sinned? Shat? Masturbated? He has sinned.
Who claims he hasnât sinned? The reverence for the Pope is not for him as a person, itâs for what he represents. Heâs the Vicar of Christ..and not the poor suffering Christ who was killed but the risen Christ who reigns supreme, Christ the King. Now having said that, one could admire a holy Pope (the person) as and when they are holy..thereâs been very holy Popes and very evil ones.
by Anonymous | reply 77 | January 1, 2020 3:41 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 90 | January 1, 2020 5:32 PM |
She was totally in the wrong. Imagine someone pulling on Queen Elizabeth like that? If she hit the person with her handbag sheâd be a big hero. Sorry but that bitch deserved more.
by Anonymous | reply 91 | January 1, 2020 5:35 PM |
Sorry, R51, but the conservative agenda drives stuff like that to denigrate Francis.
The man is in his early 80s, and the woman could have pulled him down. He reacted a couple of years ago in much the same way, when another overzealous person tugged him into the crowd.
As a gay man who is Catholic, I have a lot of problems with the church. But I give a lot of credit to this man who is trying to be more Christian in his approach to a whole range of issues. As a world leader, he is the Anti-Trump. Could you imagine that imbecile in the White House apologizing, if he had had a similar incident? I can't.
by Anonymous | reply 92 | January 1, 2020 5:58 PM |
He wants his cake and eat it too.
He wants to play at being a god's special snowflake on earth with a direct line of communication and grace.
Of course, people want to touch him. As for kissing his ring - how many hundreds of years of tradition is that?
He plays dress up in all the regalia and stand in front of cheering crowds and all the other ceremony and tradition that strokes his ego, but he draws the line at, you know, actual human contact.
by Anonymous | reply 93 | January 1, 2020 6:01 PM |
LOL - he may as well have done your standard apology:
"This is not who I am or the values of our organization. We can do better. I can do better. I want to apologize to people who were upset or offended by my actions. In the future, I'll work harder to warrant the trust and faith you've put in me...."

by Anonymous | reply 105 | January 1, 2020 6:53 PM |

Had that crazy Asian bitch tried to pull this aggressive stunt on the Dalai Lama he would have turned around and beheaded her with one swift karate chop.
by Anonymous | reply 106 | January 1, 2020 7:07 PM |
People are always grabbing at him, kissing his hand, touching him...it's no wonder he hasn't done something like this way before now. The woman GRABBED him hard. Understandably he was not happy about that.
by Anonymous | reply 107 | January 1, 2020 7:11 PM |
The pope's people should just tell the people in line that the pope requests that you not kiss his ring. Make up something like he's very susceptible to colds, etc. This would be so much more preferable than yanking his hand away making people feel like schmucks when all they wanted to do was show respect. The hell with it. End the practice, but don't humiliate people and make them feel badly.
Personally, I wouldn't want to wait in line to kiss anything that dozens of other people had already kissed. The germs, yuck!
by Anonymous | reply 108 | January 1, 2020 7:37 PM |
[quote]Of course, people want to touch him.
She's grabbing at him like a shrimp at the buffet or a slightly soiled Chanel purse on sale. What a cunt. Touching his hand or kissing a ring isn't human contact.
[quote]As for kissing his ring - how many hundreds of years of tradition is that?
Tradition doesn't make something good and Francis' wish is to represent Catholicism as following the lead of Jesus Christ as the simple and decent man. He does not want to be seen as an idol to be worshipped, he's not Beyonce. It was tradition to throw gays in jail and to beat children at school. Who gives a shit when his hand is spat on by thousands a day?
[quote]He plays dress up in all the regalia
No, Francis wears simple white of a priest on purpose. The person in the regalia was Benedict, a Kaiser Karl style German clothes horse.

Next season on "The Young Pope"--S2/E1: "What Would Lenny Do?" God, I love that show!
Pope Francis was correct in his handling of the assault; "Holy Father" treated the woman like the misbehaving "child" she presented herself to be among her "siblings." His scolding technique should be adopted by modern parents everywhere, i.e. chastise and correct misbehavior on the spot in a manner to discourage repeats by the errant one and/or his siblings. Apology is optional.
Do not grab or yank at others; better yet, keep your hands to yourself.

I used to drive downtown on my lunch break to pick up my mail from the Post Office and get something to eat. One day, I was carrying my umbrella, and this older woman wearing a raincoat grabbed my arm and wouldn't let go. So I kept whacking her with the umbrella until she let go, and picked up my mail and had a sandwich at Roy Roger's. When I got back to the office, the lady who sat next to me asked me what I did at lunch, and I mentioned that I hit a homeless woman with my umbrella to get her off of me. She loudly exclaimed "You hit a homeless woman?!?" Half the office went silent, and I started getting dirty looks from some of the women after that. Sorry, not sorry.

R128 Yes let's be racist and paint ALL Asians as rude. Those Asians who knocked others down at the museum I guarantee were mainland Chinese tourists. Singaporean, Taiwanese, and HK Chinese don't act that way. Nor do Japanese and South Korean tourists. Asian tourists from those countries are in contrast to the Chinese mainlanders, very polite and well-behaved. But yes, let's just be racist against all Asians because you saw dumb fuck Chinese tourists who wholly deserve their reputation around the world.

She was desperate to meet him, may have been there for hours or longer, was literally praying as he approached, and then he turned just as he got to her. She freaked out. She freaked out because the Catholic Church wants adherents to freak out like that, it's good business for them.
The church goes to great lengths to present the Pope as basically God on earth, they deliberately create his image as a powerful being who can help the most needy, so they can't start getting pissy when people who have fallen for their pious PR start acting a little crazy.

In the musical Carousel, Billy Bigelow gets a chance to return to Earth and make things right. He is in the future and encounters his daughter Louise whom he never met. He tries to give her a star and she refuses it. He slaps her on the hand. Louise runs to her mother and asks, "Do you believe it's possible for someone to hit you good and hard and for it not to hurt?" It is mentioned earlier in the show that Billy is physically abusive with his wife. But she answers, "Yes, it's possible for someone to hit you good and hard and for it not to hurt."

R51 Interesting video but it's from the perspective of a very traditional Catholic - they hate Francis because he is trying to turn around the supertanker and walk back from the extreme reactionary conservatism of his two immediate predecessors (hence the reference to Bishops leaving their dioceses - they don't like the fact that he is moving some of the furthest-right cardinals to meaningless symbolic jobs in Malta).
I was raised a Catholic and have never heard of anyone kissing the ring of an ordinary parish priest.
I think the Pope believes that the practice of kissing rings elevates him as an individual rather than the Word of God. Or perhaps he's just a germaphobe. Mind you he goes to prisons to wash the feet of the inmates every year so it's unlikely to be that.

Erm thatâs because priests donât have ecclesiastical rings. Bishops are given rings at their ordination. It is customary to kiss the ring in recognition of their office as a successor to the apostles and the authority that comes with that office. The Popeâs ring is known as âRing of the Fishermanâ. It is a symbol of papal authority and bears the image of St. Peter. Pope Francis either doesnât understand the papal office and the symbolism that comes with certain elements of the office or, he does, and wants destroy the papacy.
