The Pope Watches Carousel (Pope Smacks Asian Woman)

This move could only be achieved by carefully studying the Broadway musical Carousel.

Omg, that looks so bad! But she probably grabbed him with an unholy grip and wouldn't let go.

by Anonymousreply 1January 1, 2020 12:26 AM

LOL imagine believing that religious nonsense and having your living embodiment of God himself bitch-smack you -- that'll leave a mark (ON HER SOUL)

by Anonymousreply 2January 1, 2020 12:35 AM

r2 Asian Karen is going to hell five times over, for sure.

by Anonymousreply 3January 1, 2020 12:37 AM

Pope. Was. Not. Playing. With. That. Beeyotch. Lol

by Anonymousreply 4January 1, 2020 12:39 AM

If there was ever a reason to change religions, that would be it.

by Anonymousreply 5January 1, 2020 12:43 AM

Oh please, if it had been a young hot male he would have reacted differently

Fuck the pope

by Anonymousreply 6January 1, 2020 12:44 AM

What a way to end the decade - MeToo'ing your adherent on camera. 😄

by Anonymousreply 7January 1, 2020 12:45 AM

Immediately thought of the attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II in St. Peter's Square in Vatican City where he was shot and wounded while entering the square. In those very quick few seconds, its indeterminable to realize the woman's intent, especially when she's grabbing and pulling with such force.

by Anonymousreply 8January 1, 2020 12:47 AM

Hahah, remember when Jesus smacked away that woman who grabbed his cloak?

by Anonymousreply 9January 1, 2020 12:47 AM

Her intent is obvious. "Me love you long time."

by Anonymousreply 10January 1, 2020 12:49 AM

Some are claiming he called her a "bruja." Spanish for witch

by Anonymousreply 11January 1, 2020 12:51 AM

"Get your hands off me you yellow pagan!"

by Anonymousreply 12January 1, 2020 12:54 AM

OMG, he’s...he’s...human!

by Anonymousreply 13January 1, 2020 12:54 AM

She seemed kind of desperate. I bet she has terminal cancer and was hoping for a miracle. Wouldn't it be ironic if she found out that bitchsmack actually cured her?

by Anonymousreply 14January 1, 2020 1:02 AM

r14 Even funnier if that then counted towards those miracles he'll need in order to be declared a saint after his death.

by Anonymousreply 15January 1, 2020 1:04 AM

[quote]He's just an old man. What is so special about him?

Uh...he's the bishop of Rome, the leader of the Catholic Church.

Now tell us about you.

by Anonymousreply 19January 1, 2020 2:49 AM

She pulled him so hard he almost fell and to a frail old man like him that could have been fatal.

He should have bitch slapped her.

by Anonymousreply 20January 1, 2020 4:08 AM

Before he got to her I wondered at his patience with the damn phones thrust in his face. No mere mortal could handle all of that nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 21January 1, 2020 4:12 AM

Did it feel like a kiss?

by Anonymousreply 22January 1, 2020 4:18 AM

Pope Francis pings pedo.

by Anonymousreply 23January 1, 2020 4:21 AM

R21, he is no mere mortal. He is the Vicar of Christ on earth.

He used to be a bouncer at a bar in Buenos Aires.

by Anonymousreply 27January 1, 2020 4:36 AM

LOL - shows his true colors. That isn't surprise or shock on his face - it is venom and disdain that someone dared to reach for him.

The look on that woman's face was not hatred or anger, but devotion and reverence who is the supposed earthly embodiment of their lord and savior.

It's like silly celebrities who moan and whine about paps. Of course, they're going to hound you once you're famous enough to matter. What do you expect when you manipulate people and use faith as a tool and weapon. Of course, you're going to have people who are so enraptured by your odious message and desperate to touch its earthly form.

I hope that video goes viral and people see that he isn't the kinder and gentler Pope, but as nasty and self-serving as they've all been. He's just better at pushing this particular image. Politics in the Vatican are as nasty as anywhere. People are fools to think that someone could possibly rise to the top of that stinkhole and continue to smell like a rose.

by Anonymousreply 28January 1, 2020 4:37 AM

How many kids have been rape and tortured by priests since the dawn of time?

[quote] That isn't surprise or shock on his face - it is venom and disdain that someone dared to reach for him.

Please reach for him all day, everyday. He's used to it. I don't see venom and disdain-- I see a tired old man in a bad mood.

by Anonymousreply 30January 1, 2020 4:39 AM

[QUOTE]LOL - shows his true colors. That isn't surprise or shock on his face - it is venom and disdain that someone dared to reach for him.

That aggressive bitch almost tore his fucking arm off.

by Anonymousreply 31January 1, 2020 4:41 AM

[quote]Please reach for him all day, everyday.

Did you see how FAST his expression changed from smiling and benevolent to vicious?

[quote]That aggressive bitch almost tore his fucking arm off.

Tore his arm off - LOL. She wasn't moving she was pressed against the barrier. She grabbed his arm and prevented him from moving away. It's not as if he was Usain Bolt running at full speed when she grabbed his hand. He was turning away from her and she grabbed his arm. Tore his arm off - give me a break.

As someone else noted, he parades in front of the masses regularly - touching his person is a thing for the faithful.

He's a tired old man whose mask slipped.

The woman literally grabbed him and dragged him backwards. I'm on team Francis for this one.

It's interesting because I lived in China for a year (I realise there's some discussion above over whether she is Chinese or Korean) and they have very different cultural notions of personal space and boundaries than we do. In some respects much more rigid, but when it comes to physical touching and communication with strangers, much more overbearing and permissive.

by Anonymousreply 42January 1, 2020 9:46 AM

Take that!

by Anonymousreply 43January 1, 2020 10:05 AM

It was brave of him to not be in the Pope Mobile. If you get my drift...

by Anonymousreply 44January 1, 2020 10:08 AM

Her rudeness was pretty epic and probably would qualify as assault in a lot of western countries. Forcefully yanking a very elderly person's arm is never a good idea. Hopefully, since she's Asian she's lost face in a major way.

by Anonymousreply 45January 1, 2020 10:11 AM

[quote]Her rudeness was pretty epic and probably would qualify as assault in a lot of western countries. Forcefully yanking a very elderly person's arm is never a good idea.

by Anonymousreply 48January 1, 2020 10:36 AM

by Anonymousreply 49January 1, 2020 10:37 AM

He's old, he was probably tired & as other posters commented, grabbing or jerking the limbs of frail old people can easily result in fractures or breaks. He's probably too old for this meet & greet shit - just think of the germs he's exposed to, never mind aggressive asians. He should just ride around in the Pope Mobile, wave & call it good.

by Anonymousreply 50January 1, 2020 10:49 AM

by Anonymousreply 72January 1, 2020 3:13 PM

The problem is the notion that he’s hyped as some sort of special link to GOD. If he were considered a regular human mortal, she wouldn’t have grabbed at him so desperately.

And he wouldn’t have felt entitled to smack her. (Although I don’t blame him.)

And for the last time, I’ll repeat the lessons we learned in preschool: Use your words. Don’t put your hands on people.

by Anonymousreply 73January 1, 2020 3:22 PM

by Anonymousreply 74January 1, 2020 3:24 PM

The pope was right. That woman is the embodiment of “aggressive Asian lady”. He taught her a thing about boundaries. Let’s hope it sticks.

As for the video of the pope pulling back his hands during the meet&greet: This is to keep things going! There are hundreds of people in line, and the only way to accommodate all is to make the briefest of contact, then send them on their way again.

by Anonymousreply 75January 1, 2020 3:31 PM

[quote] He's just an old man. What is so special about him? Like God listens more to him? You don't think he's sinned? Shat? Masturbated? He has sinned.

Who claims he hasn’t sinned? The reverence for the Pope is not for him as a person, it’s for what he represents. He’s the Vicar of Christ..and not the poor suffering Christ who was killed but the risen Christ who reigns supreme, Christ the King. Now having said that, one could admire a holy Pope (the person) as and when they are holy..there’s been very holy Popes and very evil ones.

by Anonymousreply 77January 1, 2020 3:41 PM

I believe in GOD and this is not it. These popes are trash. People are so dumb to look up to other human beings. Pathetic. The Catholic church is gonna burn in hell.

by Anonymousreply 90January 1, 2020 5:32 PM

She was totally in the wrong. Imagine someone pulling on Queen Elizabeth like that? If she hit the person with her handbag she’d be a big hero. Sorry but that bitch deserved more.

by Anonymousreply 91January 1, 2020 5:35 PM

Sorry, R51, but the conservative agenda drives stuff like that to denigrate Francis.

The man is in his early 80s, and the woman could have pulled him down. He reacted a couple of years ago in much the same way, when another overzealous person tugged him into the crowd.

As a gay man who is Catholic, I have a lot of problems with the church. But I give a lot of credit to this man who is trying to be more Christian in his approach to a whole range of issues. As a world leader, he is the Anti-Trump. Could you imagine that imbecile in the White House apologizing, if he had had a similar incident? I can't.

by Anonymousreply 92January 1, 2020 5:58 PM

He wants his cake and eat it too.

He wants to play at being a god's special snowflake on earth with a direct line of communication and grace.

Of course, people want to touch him. As for kissing his ring - how many hundreds of years of tradition is that?

He plays dress up in all the regalia and stand in front of cheering crowds and all the other ceremony and tradition that strokes his ego, but he draws the line at, you know, actual human contact.

by Anonymousreply 93January 1, 2020 6:01 PM

LOL - he may as well have done your standard apology:

"This is not who I am or the values of our organization. We can do better. I can do better. I want to apologize to people who were upset or offended by my actions. In the future, I'll work harder to warrant the trust and faith you've put in me...."

by Anonymousreply 105January 1, 2020 6:53 PM

Had that crazy Asian bitch tried to pull this aggressive stunt on the Dalai Lama he would have turned around and beheaded her with one swift karate chop.

by Anonymousreply 106January 1, 2020 7:07 PM

People are always grabbing at him, kissing his hand, touching him...it's no wonder he hasn't done something like this way before now. The woman GRABBED him hard. Understandably he was not happy about that.

by Anonymousreply 107January 1, 2020 7:11 PM

The pope's people should just tell the people in line that the pope requests that you not kiss his ring. Make up something like he's very susceptible to colds, etc. This would be so much more preferable than yanking his hand away making people feel like schmucks when all they wanted to do was show respect. The hell with it. End the practice, but don't humiliate people and make them feel badly.

Personally, I wouldn't want to wait in line to kiss anything that dozens of other people had already kissed. The germs, yuck!

by Anonymousreply 108January 1, 2020 7:37 PM

[quote]Of course, people want to touch him.

She's grabbing at him like a shrimp at the buffet or a slightly soiled Chanel purse on sale. What a cunt. Touching his hand or kissing a ring isn't human contact.

[quote]As for kissing his ring - how many hundreds of years of tradition is that?

Tradition doesn't make something good and Francis' wish is to represent Catholicism as following the lead of Jesus Christ as the simple and decent man. He does not want to be seen as an idol to be worshipped, he's not Beyonce. It was tradition to throw gays in jail and to beat children at school. Who gives a shit when his hand is spat on by thousands a day?

[quote]He plays dress up in all the regalia

No, Francis wears simple white of a priest on purpose. The person in the regalia was Benedict, a Kaiser Karl style German clothes horse.

Next season on "The Young Pope"--S2/E1: "What Would Lenny Do?" God, I love that show!

Pope Francis was correct in his handling of the assault; "Holy Father" treated the woman like the misbehaving "child" she presented herself to be among her "siblings." His scolding technique should be adopted by modern parents everywhere, i.e. chastise and correct misbehavior on the spot in a manner to discourage repeats by the errant one and/or his siblings. Apology is optional.

Do not grab or yank at others; better yet, keep your hands to yourself.

I used to drive downtown on my lunch break to pick up my mail from the Post Office and get something to eat. One day, I was carrying my umbrella, and this older woman wearing a raincoat grabbed my arm and wouldn't let go. So I kept whacking her with the umbrella until she let go, and picked up my mail and had a sandwich at Roy Roger's. When I got back to the office, the lady who sat next to me asked me what I did at lunch, and I mentioned that I hit a homeless woman with my umbrella to get her off of me. She loudly exclaimed "You hit a homeless woman?!?" Half the office went silent, and I started getting dirty looks from some of the women after that. Sorry, not sorry.

R128, there are lots of Korean Catholics. And she was blessing herself when she saw him. Just a crazy, overenthusiastic, unhinged religious nut seeing her favorite rock star.

by Anonymousreply 130January 1, 2020 8:47 PM

I love the way he smacks her - reminds me of how my cat used to pop the younger cat’s head if she got too close. Pop, pop, pop! It’s too funny!

by Anonymousreply 131January 1, 2020 8:49 PM

[quote] Either way, unlikely to be Catholic.

There are a shitton of Catholics in Southeast Asia due to French colonialism.

by Anonymousreply 132January 1, 2020 8:51 PM

I am sorry we asked, R122, R128. Oh wait, we didn't ask, did we?

Let us stay on topic and not threadjack OP's topic with our own tales, okay?

by Anonymousreply 133January 1, 2020 8:51 PM

R128 Yes let's be racist and paint ALL Asians as rude. Those Asians who knocked others down at the museum I guarantee were mainland Chinese tourists. Singaporean, Taiwanese, and HK Chinese don't act that way. Nor do Japanese and South Korean tourists. Asian tourists from those countries are in contrast to the Chinese mainlanders, very polite and well-behaved. But yes, let's just be racist against all Asians because you saw dumb fuck Chinese tourists who wholly deserve their reputation around the world.

what do you mean "we"?

by Anonymousreply 136January 1, 2020 9:22 PM

R92 your issues are with God since the church is His and the teachings are His. Pope Francis’ way is an attempt to undermine church teaching which he ultimately can’t because the church doesn’t belong to him.

by Anonymousreply 137January 1, 2020 9:22 PM

Yeah yeah, can get back to priests and popes falling and grabbed, please?

by Anonymousreply 138January 1, 2020 9:33 PM

Looking at R86's gif, that crazy bitch grabs him with both hands and drags him over to her. Insane.

by Anonymousreply 139January 1, 2020 10:25 PM

I liked r122's tale and I hope he shared more.

by Anonymousreply 140January 1, 2020 10:32 PM

Have they figured out who the Asian woman is yet? I would love to hear her side of the story.

by Anonymousreply 141January 1, 2020 10:33 PM

Looked to me that she hurt him.

by Anonymousreply 142January 1, 2020 11:21 PM

by Anonymousreply 143January 1, 2020 11:23 PM

by Anonymousreply 144January 1, 2020 11:38 PM

Koreans are religious nuts.

by Anonymousreply 145January 2, 2020 1:13 AM

Some of the people here defending the Pope are outrageous. This is a man that heads a worldwide cult that have abused children on an industrial scale for centuries. Fuck him Fuck the Catholic Church! And fuck religion in general!

And we don't know if his a kiddie fiddler. Maybe he is maybe he isn't but you can guarantee he has and is protecting countless numbers of them.

Once again FUCK HIM and his cult. I wish she ripped his fucking arm right off!!

by Anonymousreply 146January 2, 2020 2:28 AM

I agree in general with R146 (except for the suggestion Francis is a pedo--that's stupid), but hunty, you sound like you have sand in your vadge.

by Anonymousreply 147January 2, 2020 3:29 AM

Except that this Pope has been the fastest to try to clean house when allegations come to light. (cf. the recent DC bishop who used the D.C, archdiocese's funds (to the tune of $300K to bribe higher ups in Rome deciding the fate of pedophile priests: Bitch defrocked.)

[quote][R92] your issues are with God since the church is His and the teachings are His. Pope Francis’ way is an attempt to undermine church teaching which he ultimately can’t because the church doesn’t belong to him.

You are really too "funny" to be believed and also highly ignorant of church history. I suppose you believe those who turned a blind eye (even the most wonderful ever John Paul II) are the best stewards of God's intent for us lessers who don't like child fucking.

by Anonymousreply 148January 2, 2020 4:31 AM

He look-uh like a mad!

by Anonymousreply 149January 2, 2020 7:56 AM

Those fucking awful Asian tourists rarely travel to experience different cultures and have experiences in general with other human beings except themselves. They only travel to take selfies and have bragging rights to family and friends about where they’ve been and how great for them it is.

by Anonymousreply 150January 2, 2020 10:10 AM

by Anonymousreply 151January 2, 2020 10:50 AM

r121 Omg, one of the agents pushed one of the bishops to the ground as he was running towards the pope! Talk about priorities, eh?

by Anonymousreply 152January 2, 2020 11:21 AM

Not only did he hit her he rudely yelled twice at her. Also notice how his was grabbing the kids but mostly ignoring the adults - very Catholic.

by Anonymousreply 153January 2, 2020 11:26 AM

Heterosexual male aggression in full flight.

by Anonymousreply 154January 2, 2020 11:27 AM

Isn't Catholic the predominant Datalounge religion?

by Anonymousreply 155January 2, 2020 11:58 AM

Wait, so many of you are forgetting THE AGE of this man. Have any of you ever worked with the Elderly? I used to volunteer a lot with one of the local nursing homes and God Help You if dinner was late, someone took a shit in their pants and was uncomfortable, or the medical assistants were late with their meds. That woman is lucky the Pope didn't belt her into next year! How do we know that Benedict wasn't having a migraine? Old people are cranky a lot, trust me on this one.

He turned away from the crowd very abruptly. She was SURE to have some contact. It was shock and disappointment wrapped up in one. He should have smiled at the people as he turned away. A charmer he is not.

BAD casting, quite frankly. I hope they choose better next time.

by Anonymousreply 160January 2, 2020 12:09 PM

BAD casting, quite frankly. I hope they choose better next time.

Huh?

by Anonymousreply 161January 2, 2020 12:10 PM

r161 is apparently unfamiliar with how the popes are chosen...

by Anonymousreply 162January 2, 2020 12:15 PM

She should've flashed him her tits instead.

by Anonymousreply 163January 2, 2020 1:19 PM

She was desperate to meet him, may have been there for hours or longer, was literally praying as he approached, and then he turned just as he got to her. She freaked out. She freaked out because the Catholic Church wants adherents to freak out like that, it's good business for them.

The church goes to great lengths to present the Pope as basically God on earth, they deliberately create his image as a powerful being who can help the most needy, so they can't start getting pissy when people who have fallen for their pious PR start acting a little crazy.

by Anonymousreply 164January 2, 2020 1:25 PM

Lol! R119.

Notice the choir/alter boys in the back don't even react or jump to his defence. They're probably thinking "Yeah! Get that handsy old bitch!"

by Anonymousreply 167January 2, 2020 3:00 PM

What crappy bodyguards the Pope has that they let a single woman climb over the barrier and actually tackle him in r119's video.

Seriously, situational awareness does not seem to be their forte.

by Anonymousreply 168January 2, 2020 4:23 PM

[quote]Could OP or someone explain what this has to do with Carousel? A link might have been helpful.

In the musical Carousel, Billy Bigelow gets a chance to return to Earth and make things right. He is in the future and encounters his daughter Louise whom he never met. He tries to give her a star and she refuses it. He slaps her on the hand. Louise runs to her mother and asks, "Do you believe it's possible for someone to hit you good and hard and for it not to hurt?" It is mentioned earlier in the show that Billy is physically abusive with his wife. But she answers, "Yes, it's possible for someone to hit you good and hard and for it not to hurt."

by Anonymousreply 169January 2, 2020 10:46 PM

R51 Interesting video but it's from the perspective of a very traditional Catholic - they hate Francis because he is trying to turn around the supertanker and walk back from the extreme reactionary conservatism of his two immediate predecessors (hence the reference to Bishops leaving their dioceses - they don't like the fact that he is moving some of the furthest-right cardinals to meaningless symbolic jobs in Malta).

I was raised a Catholic and have never heard of anyone kissing the ring of an ordinary parish priest.

I think the Pope believes that the practice of kissing rings elevates him as an individual rather than the Word of God. Or perhaps he's just a germaphobe. Mind you he goes to prisons to wash the feet of the inmates every year so it's unlikely to be that.

by Anonymousreply 170January 2, 2020 11:07 PM

[quote] I was raised a Catholic and have never heard of anyone kissing the ring of an ordinary parish priest.

Didn't Maria do it in the stage version of The Sound Of Music? I thought she knelt and kissed the Reverend Mother's ring.

by Anonymousreply 171January 2, 2020 11:28 PM

Th Pope's' reaction was too retrained. Anyone one else who has his arm suddenly yanked by some anonymous bitch in a crowd would have kicked her in the cunt.

by Anonymousreply 172January 3, 2020 12:12 AM

He came back an hour later and slapped her again!

by Anonymousreply 173January 3, 2020 12:14 AM

R156 My thoughts exactly. People get cranky, with less of a filter with age. He's in his eighties, there's no way he doesn't have a touch of senility. Honestly, if you scare or hurt an elderly person, that reaction is to be expected. Claws come out.

by Anonymousreply 174January 3, 2020 12:29 AM

This documentary on him is very good and explains the many differences in his papacy.

This thread should be used to justify no longer using witness testimony in court trials. How the same video of one act can elicit fifty different interpretations is bizarre.

Erm that’s because priests don’t have ecclesiastical rings. Bishops are given rings at their ordination. It is customary to kiss the ring in recognition of their office as a successor to the apostles and the authority that comes with that office. The Pope’s ring is known as “Ring of the Fisherman”. It is a symbol of papal authority and bears the image of St. Peter. Pope Francis either doesn’t understand the papal office and the symbolism that comes with certain elements of the office or, he does, and wants destroy the papacy.

by Anonymousreply 179January 3, 2020 1:48 AM

R178 oooooorrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr he just wants to change/modernise the papacy.

Shocking, I know.

by Anonymousreply 180January 3, 2020 2:12 AM

That woman crossed herself and wanted to shake his hand badly. She grabbed too hard. The Pope has security right next to him if needed. Rather than assaulting the woman, he could have smiled and taken her hand in his. It appears that’s all she wanted.

by Anonymousreply 181January 3, 2020 2:20 AM

R181 Is correct. But all he wanted to do was touch the children.

by Anonymousreply 182January 3, 2020 2:42 AM

That little girl laughing and squealing on some guy's shoulders in the background adds a fellini-esque quality to this whole production.

We are all God's representative on Earth, so of course he behaves like other people.

by Anonymousreply 185January 3, 2020 4:21 AM

R184 Maybe you are. Whilst he probably isn't a kiddie fiddler there is not doubt he has been involving in covering it up like all of the high ranking Catholics around the world.

by Anonymousreply 186January 3, 2020 4:45 AM

He's actually been the first pope to truly address child rape and torture, so don't compare him to his predecessors to the degree he's equally culpable to them because that's bullshit, R186. It just isn't accurate.

And a slap on the wrist for someone pulling at his arm is not assault, R181.

by Anonymousreply 187January 3, 2020 5:00 AM

Team Pope. It was self-defense.

Pretty crazy though. I admit I don't know how religious people think, but I feel like if I were Catholic it would shake me up if the pope, the actual pope, slapped me. God, why hast thou forsaken me?

by Anonymousreply 188January 3, 2020 5:05 AM

[quote] The church goes to great lengths to present the Pope as basically God on earth, they deliberately create his image as a powerful being who can help the most needy ...

To Catholics, they literally neither nor believe it.

by Anonymousreply 189January 3, 2020 5:17 AM

*neither say nor believe

by Anonymousreply 190January 3, 2020 5:18 AM

I went to Catholic school for 12 years and while I don't support the church, I support what he did to that loon.

by Anonymousreply 191January 3, 2020 5:22 AM

She’s Korean, not Chinese.

by Anonymousreply 192January 3, 2020 6:17 AM

R187 Then please explain why Pope Francis, the ped protector, has still failed to condemn Cardinal George Pell who is sitting is prison now for sexually assaulting young boys? And don't say its because Pell is awaiting appeal because 1) his conviction will not be overturned 2) Pell has been fucking convicted by a trial and jury.

Stop making excuses for the Catholic Church and its history of child abuse (amongst others) on an industrial scale since the beginning of its existence.

by Anonymousreply 193January 3, 2020 6:38 AM

She should have come back and punched him out.

by Anonymousreply 194January 3, 2020 6:48 AM

R194 She should sue the church. They are used to it and they have very deep pockets due to the money they take (mainly from the poor) and the fact that they don't pay any taxes.

by Anonymousreply 195January 3, 2020 8:57 AM

by Anonymousreply 206January 4, 2020 4:32 AM

R198 he was smiling in this video..seems like a playful slap. Pope Francis is known to have anger issues but my guess is that he perhaps does playfully slap people and perhaps angry slap people too and because it’s ingrained in him, when he felt provoked by that poor Asian Lady, he instinctively smacked her.
