Jessica Lange
I just completed a marathon of this acting maverick’s films and television projects.
I think what’s most impressive about Lange’s work is the level of depth and dedication she brings to her projects combined with her signature unpredictability and emotionalism.
She has some truly underrated gems on her resume, many of which she deserved awards for (“Titus”, I’m looking at you!).
Timeless favorites:
King Kong
All That Jazz

Jessica is truly one of the greatest actresses ever.

She has a great scene with Sam Shepard in "Crimes of the Heart" where she describes to him how she ended up in a psychiatric ward in an L.A. hospital. It's so beautifully written and acted. She said she wasn't crazy about the director, Bruce Beresford, but her work in the film is unforgettable.

None of her peers could wrestle with Shakespeare like this:

I got bored of her in AHS. She made the right decision to leave.

R11 Well, AHS became boring. At the height of her powers on the show, Lange elevated AHS to the levels of GLOBAL pop culture sensation, the effects of which are still seen and felt today.
What it did for her profile and career is almost immeasurable because although she is no longer on it, as long as the show remains in production, she will be talked about and will continue to reap the benefits.
Her work in season 3 (Coven) is career best work. She’s masterful in it, treating the dialogue like equal parts O’Neill and Shakespeare, but bringing to it a late-career abandon that is both thrilling and inspiring to watch.
Even Meryl tunes in to and encouraged her daughters to join “American Horror Whatever” because of Lange’s iconic work.
The fact that she won a LEAD SAG award for a supporting role in a campy horror show says it all.

She has rather busy hands, a little affected sometimes.

R14 Not always but then again, Meryl has a busy face AND hands, and is particularly prone to darting her eyes, placing her tongue beneath her top lip, scratching at her ear and/ or nose, and other innovative tics to convey subtext and create a character.
Let’s not.

She's the uglier version of Brie Larson.

Love her in Cape Fear, hands and all

R16. Oh, hubby, Brie is not even in the same room never mind on the same level...

R17 lmao! That is too much.

Because of my mothers obsession with Sweet Dreams I actually thought she WAS Patsy Cline until I was maybe 7-8 (I was born in '80)

R21 She’s so good in it too. She had AMAZING chemistry with Ed Harris. I almost suspect they fucked.
I love their sparring during their first big fight scene after he comes home late for dinner (baked chicken). :chef’s kiss:

Lange always plays her histrionic hammy self over and over again and again forever and ever. Tedious.

R24 Um, no.
See Tootsie, Country, Crimes of the Heart, Far North, Music Box, Men Don’t Leave, Cousin Bette, Normal, Sybil, Wild Oats, Horace and Pete.

The CBS segment was great.
She looks amazing. Natural, relaxed, content ❤️

Men Don't Leave is one of my favourite performances.
Her scenes with Joan Cusack are sensational.
I'm sure it would disappoint, but imagine Lange, Streep and Close together. Three of the greatest.

These bitches could be filmed breathing together for two hours and it would NOT disappoint.
We would be RIVETED.

R31 that’s a much better combo of three actresses IMO and that movie more or less sucked, so I wouldn’t put too much into putting any of these three together.
I just had time to watch a minute of that interview but it looks so cute. I think all three are generally easy to work with so it must have been a nice time. Keaton looks the best there, though.

R33 I love Crimes of the Heart. So underrated.
Also, I don’t see how you can NOT be interested in seeing Lange, Streep and Close together...
Actually, I want Streep and Lange to play lesbian lovers who come out of the closet late in life.
Cate Blanchett and Charlize Theron (Robin Wright is THIS close cause of lewks) would play their conflicted daughters.
I’d toss Close for THAT!

R34 mainly because I’m not a huge fan of Glenn and I don’t find her a particularly interesting or appealing actress. That doesn’t mean she’s not an objectively good and sometimes excellent actress, I just don’t connect with her and never had.
Just watched the interview — that was infectious I loved it. I wish they hadn’t cut it all up. There was potential for such a better movie with those 3z

She can be quite good and it looks like she once was pretty, but no one under 70 knows her as anything but a hammy TV actress.

R36 Bitch, you are evil, lol, but also a liar.
Lange is constantly mentioned by legends and up and comers alike - to. this. day.
Of course, it’s simply breathtakingly wondrous that she’s so popular amongst millennials and gen z (is that what they’re calling themselves these days?) all with the stamp of approval of the fabulous M on both her tits.
