And they cast real life gay and bi men to star in it. No straights playing gays.

Let’s watch, girls!

Not a movie, but the fourth episode in a horror anthology series "Into the Dark", which is in its second season currently.

R1 It's feature-length, so, yes, it's a movie. Just like any other Made-for-TV movie.

"Into the Dark" is not an anthology series like "American Horror Story" with season-long story arcs. Instead, it's a series of individual movies. They call them 'episodes' because they release one per month, thematically tied to that month's holiday. You don't need to have seen any previous entry/episode nor do you need to watch any subsequent ones. Individual. Movies.

"Midnight Kiss" is the New Year's entry for the second season and the 16th episode overall. It was directed by out director Carter Smith ("The Ruins", "Jamie Marks is Dead").

This looks like fun.

by Anonymousreply 3December 27, 2019 9:23 PM

r2 It's a feature-length standalone episode, dear. Just like Black Mirror.

by Anonymousreply 4December 27, 2019 9:30 PM

R4 Most "Black Mirror" episodes are NOT feature-length, dear.

How do we know they cast only gay/bi actors? I thought Lukas Gage was straight.

by Anonymousreply 6December 28, 2019 12:01 AM

Will Westwater is hot. Not sure if he's gay or not. Shows his ass in the first five minutes too.

Watching this, the only question I have is WHY DIDN'T ANYONE CALL 911?

by Anonymousreply 8December 28, 2019 6:28 AM

Also just read this, looks like Will Westwater is straight since he's.... well the first to die.

[quote]Aside from the very first victim, all of the gay characters are played by out gay actors. Surprisingly, that directive came from the top. “Blumhouse and Hulu were very excited by this idea of casting queer actors to play characters,” said Smith, who admitted he was skeptical at first. “My initial reaction was, ‘Wait, if you’re saying a queer actor has to play a queer character, aren’t you also saying a queer actor can’t play a straight character?'”

It’s a fucking movie, R4. We don’t care what you read in Variety, and we’re not impressed by your pedantry, either. Its a fucking movie.

Saw it and liked it, though it was obvious who the killer was early on. Really liked Augustus Prew in this.

by Anonymousreply 11December 28, 2019 8:02 PM

R6 I know at least three of the actors are gay, Scott Evans, Augustus Prew and Chester Lockhart. Not so sure about the others.

by Anonymousreply 12December 28, 2019 8:04 PM

Interestingly Scott Evans and Augustus Prew play together in another movie too.

R12 The article says that everyone is gay in real life except for the first victim

by Anonymousreply 14December 28, 2019 8:18 PM

R12 the article at R9

by Anonymousreply 15December 28, 2019 8:19 PM

R14 and R15 Thanks. So this means Lukas Gage is gay too? He's hot.

by Anonymousreply 16December 28, 2019 8:52 PM

Tried to watch but couldnt get into it. Very stereotypical portrayals

by Anonymousreply 17December 28, 2019 9:02 PM

Wildin

by Anonymousreply 18December 28, 2019 9:03 PM

I will say that the motivation and reasoning for the killer is completely stupid

by Anonymousreply 19December 28, 2019 9:05 PM

Cheeks (ass)

by Anonymousreply 20December 28, 2019 9:05 PM

Why is OP crossed out?

Drop some knowledge

by Anonymousreply 24December 28, 2019 9:07 PM

R16: This news to me, too. He is definitely hot and this makes him hotter to me.

RE: does this mean queer actors can't play straight? Queer actors can play anything but straight and the point is that the film industry should now progress toward making more LGBTQ+ content. If there were more diverse gay stories and films then gay actors only playing gay roles wouldn't be an issue. I know that's still far off, though.

by Anonymousreply 25December 29, 2019 2:42 PM

No actor wants to be typecasted

by Anonymousreply 26December 29, 2019 2:45 PM

as opposed to being typecast

by Anonymousreply 27December 29, 2019 2:55 PM

That is why many gay actors do not come out as gay. A gay actor is automatically typecast as gay. Period.

by Anonymousreply 28December 29, 2019 2:58 PM

Yeah and that’s very limiting

by Anonymousreply 29December 29, 2019 3:42 PM

Another article that calls Lukas Gage a gay actor.

This is not a film, movie, flick, picture show. Sheesh!

by Anonymousreply 31January 3, 2020 3:04 AM

[quote]RE: does this mean queer actors can't play straight?

Augustus primarily plays straight characters. His now-husband Jeffery Self had to check a writer who lamented that CBS didn't have any openly gay lead actors on their shows the year Augustus was headlining a medical drama.

by Anonymousreply 32January 3, 2020 3:12 AM

I lost my point. His character was straight.

by Anonymousreply 33January 3, 2020 3:14 AM

This one was terrible. The “films” in this series never have enough content to justify their running length; almost all of them would work better as 1 hr long episodes.

by Anonymousreply 34January 3, 2020 3:49 AM

It looks like Scott Evans and Augustus Prew have been cast in yet another movie together.

Actualy, my bad, this is actually the same movie they were in that was released limited release last year as "Sell By"
