I had a few small basal cell carcinoma spots removed from my face. The dermatologist advised me to apply sunscreen to my face on a daily basis. The problem is that I hate most sunscreens because they're gloppy and smelly.
Any recommendations?

Mineral zinc instead of chemical. I wil be using the cerave mineral zinc spf 50 next. I believe it's a moisturizer as well.
Spf 50 minimum! Spf 100+ if you find a good one.

Aveno makes one I like it is light and not so "sunscreeny" Nutregeona has one too that is decent but thicker.

I hope you get some good recommendations. I haven't found any that feel good or greasy on my skin and cause me to break out. Hated Cerave, Neutrogena, Banana Boat, actually most of the ones you can buy at the drugstore/Target. I heard good things about Goop!, but it's pricey. Also there's powder brush on sunscreens, but I don't want to look like I'm wearing makeup.

Spray on will be fast to apply and is formulated to be light

Why the hell would you put on a sunscreen for the beach every day? Banana Boat?
Are you saying you've tried the moisturizers with SPF already in them and don't like them? There are plenty on the market. I use a moisturizer with SPF30 every day.

A lady uses a parasol. Slathering one's face with white goo is for cretins!

Neutrogena has one for babies that I use on my face. Much gentler than typical formulas, which cause eye irritation for me.

Olay for sensitive skin with sunscreen (spf 15).

The Jack Black moisturizer is great, and has some sunscreen in it. It's not too thick and it doesn't smell like regular sunscreen. It is, however, a bit pricey.

Basil cell carcinoma isn't that bad. It's not considered a serious cancer.

Simply mix it with your facial day cream. A glob of day cream on your left palm, a bit of sunblock on your right, wring hands, apply to face.
No nasty smell, no sticky feeling. There are also plenty of facial creams that come with a higher SPF factor. You should be good with SPF 30.

For daily use on the face, I really like Garnier's SkinActive product.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 24, 2019 6:19 PM |
You should use at least spf 50.

OP posted that photo because he drools over those men ca. 1980.

The problem with sunscreen is that you have to slather a ton of it on and reapply it several times a day for it to be effective. Yuck. I just wear hats and lightweight long sleeved tops and avoid the sun.

People on reddit love Asian sunscreens like Biore Aqua Watery Essence. American sunscreens are absolute shit.

I use Neutrogena Clear Face sunscreen, SPF 55. It’s not greasy and doesn’t have that sunscreen smell. I wear it everyday. Also, wear a hat. That’s as important as sunscreen.

I’ve had success with the Mario Badescu oil free moisturizer with 30 spf. It is a chemical spf with minimal sun screen smell. The down side is it it quite expensive.
Definitely try looking into Korean brands, they are usually a lot more affordable and reliable.

Vichy is the absolute best for daily application on the face and for sensitive/problematic skin. Top of the game in UV protection too. And smells amazing. Haven't found anything better yet. The gold standard.

Aveno is the best one or anything from Japan.

Plus, Vichy have a wide range not only of protection factors but also of other bonuses, such as anti-shine, BB creams, etc. Amazing products, haven't found anything better in the last 15-20 years.

You can buy Japanese sunscreens on Amazon and they are reasonably priced. I like Biore and Skin Aqua. I'll never buy American sunscreens again.

OP, my friends laugh at me and call me the sunscreen connoisseur. I wear a sunscreen everyday religiously and have since I was a teen with acne and put on tretinoin (Retin-A).
I prefer physical sunscreens and there just isn't anything better than Cotz when it comes to physical sunscreens. My favorite is the Prime & Protect. I use the tinted version for my face and the non-tinted for my neck. (The tinted version will stain my shirts.) This is my everyday sunscreen. It's silky and matte and so lightweight you don't even know you're wearing anything. No fragrance either. This one has an SPF of 40.
In terms of chemical sunscreens, there is absolutely N O T H I N G better than Biory UV Rich Watery Essence. It's like putting a serum on your skin. Just be careful where you purchase it because there are a lot of imitations. You can't go wrong with YesStle.com. This one has an SPF of 50+ and is rated PA++++ .

Although I absolutely agree with you about American sunscreens, I'd exercise a great deal of caveat emptor when purchasing them from Amazon. Lots and lots of fakes out there and it seems to be hit or miss with most sellers.

Powder sunscreen. I've been using this one for years. Yes, it's expensive, but it's worth it-they also make an SPF 50. Most caucasian guys are in the fair/med colors. I'm a darker skinned Asian and use the tan color. The brush/dispenser is awful, doesn't give you enough coverage in my opinon (I transfer it to a jar and use a kabuki brush). However for simplicity's sake, I used their pressed foundation.
Another bonus of the powder is tht it's one less liquid for you to worry about.

Arrrgh sorry for the dupe.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 26, 2019 2:48 AM |
Okay, I'll give you mine.
Most (read: all) sunscreens make my face turn red and inflammed because I have very sensitive skin and some rosacea. The answer is usually mineral sunscreens, but most will make your face turn white (they have a white ingredient).
The best sunscreen I've found, and the only one I use on my face, is Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Sunblock. It is FABULOUS, no "white face," and my skin has no reaction to it, and it goes on dry.

I've been using Oil of Olay Complete All Day Moisturizer SPF 30 for Sensitive Skin for about 5 years now, because I've tried many different brands and this one in particular is the only one that:
1) isn't greasy
2) doesn't make me break out
3) stays on all day
4) keeps my face moisturized
5) does its job with the SPF, because I'm Vitamin D deficient now lol
6) doesn't have a weird smell (no scent, I think, at all)
I'd recommend it.

R20 Vichy is nice, but Bioderma and La Roche Posay are more of the gold standards (depending on the particular sunscreen, of course).

Another recommendation for Olay. It’s not greasy and gets absorbed by my skin quickly. Plus, it’s priced very reasonably

Tizo. Mineral sunscreen - tinted or not tinted. It moisturizes , - has zinc, Vitamin C and E. It's expensive but a little bit goes a long way. Don't buy off Amazon.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | December 26, 2019 1:32 PM |
Tizo is excellent. So is Elta clear. Also the Korean brands as stated above.

Anyone here used amazon-brand Solimo sunscreen? It is very beachy?
This is the facial version, which could be dainty enough for daily use maybe. There is also a sport sunscreen.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE Cotz, R24.
