A classy, glamorous, grown-up movie with delicious photography, set decor and a Max Steiner score. Stanwyck is gorgeous as are her sweaters in Tahoe, which flatter her elegantly modest rack and nipples! It's an often wintery movie with skiing and a last act at Christmas, plus a dash of Eve Arden, not at all "about" Christmas. Apparently it was Stanwyck's favorite movie.
Barbara Stanwyck's war time Soap, My Reputation, released in 1946

It was good, one of her better 40s films. It would have gotten a lot more attention had she signed a long-term contract with Warners. It was made in 1944, but not released in the US until 1946. Apparently it was released overseas to Allied Forces first. Several movies, including DEVOTION with Ida Lupino and Olivia de Havilland as the Bronte sisters, were shown to the American GIs first.

Did the studios think most GIs were gay?

Stanwyck did her share of Christmas movies. I'm also a fan of Remember the Night and Christmas in Connecticut.

We never see her deceased husband in flashback although he is meant to be a nice guy.
