In movies, rich older women always keep them. But you rarely hear about them in real life anymore (except from dubious reality series). Which famous wealthy women have kept them? We've talked a lot about rich older men who keep them (like Lagerfeld or marc Jacobs), but which women, present or past, keep/kept them?
My aunt lived in LA for a while a knew a gigolo. He died.

Probably Joan Crawford. Norma Shearer and her ski instructor make me think she would have had a gigolo or two in her life. there probably were rich old society dames who went around with walkers who discreetly had a gigolo or two, as well.
When I lived in Bangkok, I heard about "widow's bars"---very, very dark establishments where wealthy women hired gentlemen who basically strolled around. The classier escort bars for men with a Thai clientele were similar but well-lit.

It's very rare with women. 99% have gay men as benefactors.

Women might "subsidize" a male companion or serve as his "patron" or "benefactor." There may be sex (or not) in the context of a social or professional relationship.
But just paying out $$$ for sex? That's something men, gay and straight do. Not women.

Stars do not require gigolos they have gentleman companions.

Super cheesy, obviously fake reality show GIGOLOS shows how deluded the 'straight gigolo scene' is. The spray tanned 50-ish guy (who looked older) was the best. They all brag about how great they are in the sack and how 'special' they make the lady clients feel, because they're professionals, don'tchaknow. But watch long enough and they act just like any other (non-gigolo) straight guy on the make who says he'll eat pussy for hours, but really, they aren't that into it.
Then as they burn out, they start confessing they just wanna fuck women they're attracted to, and for real, the show TRIES to stack the casting with young, good looking women, but you KNOW those are not the women looking to buy dick. It's the older, flabbier, less attractive ones who want to purchase a man whore! Then you get to watch them fake enthusiasm and struggle to fuck. The "sex' scenes are pure, unintentional hilarity.

Didn't that actress from Glee have one? She proudly showed him off even though it was common knowledge that he was a male escort off some website. He tried to rebrand himself as a "love therapist" or some shit. Then he dumped her.

On a purely economic level historically men (gay or straight) have had more money than women, thus it makes more sense for guys inclined to whore themselves out going with men. This regardless of their own sexuality.
That being said boy toys, gigolos, or whatever you want to call them are still out there far as older females are concerned. Many aren't unlike "Gary" (played by then still young and gorgeous Gary Cady, who is family by the way), boy toy of Lionel's ex-wife.

Furthermore a bit of quick research seems to confirm my suspicions. Yes, there are women who pay men for sex, but their numbers pale in comparison to men. More to point there are fewer women financially capable of supporting a gigolo full time. A young buck can easily do better with his time going after the gay trade, again this is regardless of his own sexuality.

Exhibit A:
Alam Wernick has made huge sums being passed around among the international power gay set, and the money continues rolling in.
There just aren't that many opportunities to make that kind of money from strictly being a gigolo to females .

Jack Wrangler and Margaret Whiting was a very interesting pairing; but don't believe he was a gigolo per se. First of all by JW's own admission he and his wife did not have much (if any?) sex.
IMHO Jack Wrangler like many gay men of his generation was deeply conflicted and confused about his sexuality. Wouldn't say it came down to self-loathing, but just perhaps not totally comfortable with gay lifestyle etc....
Jack Wrangler could have hooked up with any number of power/wealthy (but likely closeted) men and been set for life; guys with far more in bank than Margaret Whiting. Thus IMHO it wasn't about money, there were other things in background.

Walkers are a better bargain than gigolos. They fulfill all the social functions of a gigolo, and for free! Well, practically free, I presume a lady has to buy them the odd dinner or opera ticket.
So... who's escorting Candy Spelling around these days?
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 14, 2019 10:06 AM |
Wrangler and Whiting grew-up near each other and were part of B/C-list Hollywood. It was very easy for them to be companions.

I've served as a walker for older widows and divorcees who were part of philanthropic/cultural communities. Most women in the generation were not comfortable attending events and large parties as a single. I had strict rules so there never was any bother with encroachment, and I only did it with women for whom I had trust and respect. Actually, I did it most for the charities involved. I only had two who went silly.
It led to me being a "filler" for dinners needing a single man (my partner wants nothing to do with "society" and it had nothing to do with our own friends) for the table. I did this sort of thing for about five years and it was interesting and educational. And then it became boring.

When Utah sugar baby McKenzie Lueck was killed by her "date," the press published some stats about the sugar baby phenomenon. At the time there were approx. 25,000 sugar babies in Utah trying to connect with 5,000 sugar daddies. Definitely a buyers market, in a conservative state. Of the 5,000 sugar daddies, about 500 wear sugar moms. It didn't specify if they were looking male or female sugar babies.
(Yes, I noticed the stats were all multiples of 5 - I think they were a rough estimate, not a census count or the like. But, the guesstimates do indicate the existence of sugar moms.)

Women's definition of ideal sex is very different from men's. Wannabe gigolos who brag about eating pussy for hours are totally clueless.
Want to be a real gigolo? Get a job at the highest end store in your city catering to elite, bored women. Become the top salesman selling solely on commission. Yes your wardrobe, grooming, diplomacy skills, etc will have to be top notch. Your real job is to make those women with awful personality traits (real bitches and cunts) fall in love with you so they'll buy your overpriced merchandise.
Then they'll hire you to escort them to a party or event with their often equally snobby, drunk friends for you to charm. Remember it's all about fantasy and seduction rather than actual sex most of the time.
I've met 20-something women at a Las Vegas strip club catering. Very overweight, drunk, and almost masculine, they were bragging how combined they could make the male strippers do anything they wanted. Control and power games are always an issue with women playing the reverse role.
Previous roommate applied to be a gigolo at a top Vegas agency. Said like in FL most of those who hired him were high powered couples. Those that weren't were grossly overweight and unattractive with undesirable personalities who wanted to show him off to friends, just like your typical John.

Years ago there was a movie on Canadian TV about two brothers who run away from home. The older brother supported them by working as a gigolo for wealthy older women. He started off working the streets and getting picked up by women before getting a "manager". All the women were in their 30s to 40s and attractive. The younger brother decided he wanted in on the action and his brother decided it was time to leave the streets. It was the most absurd thing I'd ever seen.

There have been a few movies about gigolos, besides the unrealistic "American Gigolo".
There was "Just a Gigolo", with David Bowie and Marlene Dietrich, which was a bit more realistic about the sort of women that hire. NOT Lauren Hutton in her prime.
And there was "The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone", which was very much a coded gay story, so it doesn't count.
Any others?

While films wholly dedicated to gigolos aren't that numerous, the character per se is found often enough as a plot device for big and small screen.
Jacques Bergerac played on in Alfred Hitchcock Presents episode entitled "Legacy". Then there was a similar role as Sandomir in film "GiGi".
There was Toddy's gay toy boy Richard DiNardo in "Victor/Victoria"
