National Lampoon’s ‘Vacation’ Comedy Series in the Works at HBO Max!

There's a new addition to the National Lampoon's Vacation saga coming!

A half-hour single-camera comedy based on the classic Vacation movies is in the works at HBO Max, Deadline reported on Thursday (December 11).

The project comes from The Middle writer Tim Hobert, Johnny Galecki, his Alcide Bava Productions and Warner Bros. TV.

Here's a synopsis: "The Griswolds brings the iconic family home from vacation and explores their daily lives in the suburbs of modern Chicago."

The original five film series kicked off in 1983 with National Lampoon's Vacation, based on John Hughes' Vacation '58, and focused on the misadventures of the Griswold family, "whose attempts to enjoy vacations and holidays are plagued with nonstop disasters and strangely embarrassing predicaments."

Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo starred in all five films as the parents, Clark and Ellen Griswold.

Are Chevy and Beverly, Johnny going to be in it?

I'm the only person on Earth who watched and enjoyed LAST RESORT. It's the worst movie ever made.

Galecki? Hard pass.

Because the reboot starring Christina Applegate was such a success

Galecki dealt with Roseanne for years. Chevy will be a walk in the park for him.

It better not suck as hard as that Ed Helms remake.

by Anonymousreply 7December 13, 2019 12:54 AM

It wasn’t a remake

They’re also rebooting the NatLamp Radio Hour, I see. Hmmmmm.

That is the only truly funny, groundbreaking & subversive thing ever created under the name, so I’m not sure risking a tarnish on that legacy is a sound idea.

But who knows, maybe it will be great..

I would only watch if it was the original cast from the first movie.

Their daily lives in the suburbs? Ooooh, can't wait for the bbq episode when Clark blows up the grill.

I will be shocked if it makes it. Everyone (Really) Hates Chevy should be the title of it.

William Zabka was a smoke in EUROPEAN VACATION.

I had such a crush on the young Chevy Chase....yummy when he was younger!!!

Will Beverly murder Chevy? i think that's what people (especially in Hollywood) want to see since they hate Chevy Chase so much.
