by Anonymousreply 132December 16, 2019 7:21 PM

I remember reading that the supporting actor cathegory always goes to veterans at the oscars but this year noone near to be young will be even nominated

by Anonymousreply 1December 11, 2019 2:24 PM

Joe Pesci better win every goddamn supporting actor award. All of them.

by Anonymousreply 2December 11, 2019 2:31 PM

No Antonio Banderas and no Awkafina is a travesty

by Anonymousreply 3December 11, 2019 2:32 PM

No Banderas. Wow. Phoenix is getting the Oscar now.

by Anonymousreply 4December 11, 2019 2:32 PM

They are not going to give Joe Pesci another Oscar when he a) already has one b) is not going to act anymore. An Oscar is an investment.

Brad Pitt will get the Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 5December 11, 2019 2:34 PM

Isn't the story of Bombshell about Gretchen Carlson ? So how is Nicole a supporting performance ?

by Anonymousreply 6December 11, 2019 2:36 PM

Who liked Rocketman really, though. Taron Edgerton has no business being there.

by Anonymousreply 7December 11, 2019 2:37 PM

R5 Pitt is the front runner, but don’t count Pesci completely out. Repeating an Oscar happens and Pesci hasn’t won in nearly 30 years. Ali just one two in three years. If the Irishman does well with voters, look out.

by Anonymousreply 8December 11, 2019 2:49 PM

Pesci should get it. His is really a supporting performance where as Pitt is a co lead.

by Anonymousreply 9December 11, 2019 2:57 PM

Pitt was supporting.

by Anonymousreply 10December 11, 2019 2:59 PM

no he wasn't.

by Anonymousreply 11December 11, 2019 3:03 PM

Little Women was shut out.

I’m happy for all this love for Lupita N’yongo in Us who I thought was phenomenal.

by Anonymousreply 12December 11, 2019 3:10 PM

Whaaaaaat? No Constance Woo?

by Anonymousreply 13December 11, 2019 3:14 PM

Pitt was not Lead. He was literally Leo’s sidekick.

by Anonymousreply 14December 11, 2019 3:15 PM

De Niro getting the Lifetime Achievement Award and being snubbed in one night. Awkward.

by Anonymousreply 15December 11, 2019 3:25 PM

The Irishman is NOT and achievement, says we.

by Anonymousreply 16December 11, 2019 3:27 PM

Pitt is a co-lead, but the Supporting Actor trophy has evolved over the years from rewarding character actors in true supporting roles to awarding co-leads when it's beneficial to the films' awards slate.

by Anonymousreply 17December 11, 2019 3:30 PM

pesci is as usual the weak link....

yay gay brad pitt!

by Anonymousreply 18December 11, 2019 3:47 PM

Happy for Lupita after she missed out on Golden Globes.

by Anonymousreply 19December 11, 2019 3:50 PM

Wow, Netflix is kicking ass in terms of quality product.

by Anonymousreply 20December 11, 2019 3:51 PM

Hope Lupita or Charlize wins the Oscar this year.

by Anonymousreply 21December 11, 2019 3:51 PM

Charlize is not winning the Oscar for playing loathed Megyn Kelly, dumbass.

by Anonymousreply 22December 11, 2019 3:54 PM

Did screeners for Little Women go out in time r12? That's happened before with SAG.

by Anonymousreply 23December 11, 2019 3:56 PM

Isn’t Renee Zellweger in “Judy” walking away with all the Best Actress awards this season?

by Anonymousreply 24December 11, 2019 4:04 PM

AMPAS just got the Little Women screener on Saturday, but I don't know if they did an earlier mailing to SAG. It's not yet available on the app.

by Anonymousreply 25December 11, 2019 4:07 PM

Al Pacino should have gone leading. Why the hell not. Might have even won.

by Anonymousreply 26December 11, 2019 4:07 PM

She should be, R24.

I’m also really glad that Lupita placed here. I was completely bowled over by her performance in Us. The movie itself was uneven and I had A LOT of unanswered questions about the mechanics of that world. But her performance, especially in light of the last five minutes revelation, was phenomenal.

by Anonymousreply 27December 11, 2019 4:08 PM

DeNiro's scene in Irishman when he realizes he's going to kill Hoffa is the best of work of his career. I suspect he'll be nominated for an Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 28December 11, 2019 4:13 PM

How was Succession locked out? It was certainly better than GOT this year.

by Anonymousreply 29December 11, 2019 4:25 PM

Shusheshion.

by Anonymousreply 30December 11, 2019 4:28 PM

Yes I am honestly shocked that the actors guild apparently isn't a fan of Succession r29.

by Anonymousreply 31December 11, 2019 4:34 PM

Why is Game of thrones still being nominated for shit? Didn't they get nomnated last year for SAG? WTF.

by Anonymousreply 32December 11, 2019 4:37 PM

Game of Thrones was SHIT this past season.

by Anonymousreply 33December 11, 2019 4:38 PM

No r32. GoT did not have a season eligible for SAG last year.

by Anonymousreply 34December 11, 2019 4:41 PM

No love for the Watchmen, thought Regina King and Jean Smart would be getting nominations.

by Anonymousreply 35December 11, 2019 4:45 PM

The plot sucked R33, but the acting (which is what SAG nominates for) was as good as always.

by Anonymousreply 36December 11, 2019 4:49 PM

That’s true, R36.

by Anonymousreply 37December 11, 2019 4:50 PM

[quote]Charlize is not winning the Oscar for playing loathed Megyn Kelly, dumbass.

Because Aileen Wuornos was loved by everyone.

by Anonymousreply 38December 11, 2019 4:52 PM

She's still probably better liked than Megyn Kelly.

by Anonymousreply 39December 11, 2019 4:54 PM

Surprised a little about Succession. Not at all surprised about Watchman.

by Anonymousreply 40December 11, 2019 5:01 PM

I think Nicole Kidman was a surprise inclusion for Bombshell. Most folks had been predicting Florence Pugh for Little Women.

by Anonymousreply 41December 11, 2019 5:24 PM

good, de Niro comes across brain ded on chat shows.....go away gramps.

by Anonymousreply 42December 11, 2019 5:44 PM

The movie company mistakenly submitted our beloved Kathy Bates for Lead instead of Supporting, most likely costing her a nomination. If so, which of those Supporting ladies benefitted from this?

The same thing happened when they messed up Meryl Streep's submission for Adaptation in 2002, wrongly putting her forward for Lead. This likely cancelled out her other Lead submission for The Hours that same year and she failed to be nominated at all! Do we think she had the poor schmuck fired?

by Anonymousreply 43December 11, 2019 5:53 PM

R22 = obese old fart who is too stupid to understand the trend! Go munch on your ranitidine, cunt.

by Anonymousreply 44December 11, 2019 6:00 PM

[quote]She's still probably better liked than Megyn Kelly.

Is that you deathfat Roger Ailes talking from the grave? Bitter much?

by Anonymousreply 45December 11, 2019 6:15 PM

Little Women must have not sent their screeners on time.

by Anonymousreply 46December 11, 2019 6:16 PM

How did Taron get a nomination? De Niro, Banderas or Murphy should have had that spot.

Preferably Banderas, who gave one of the best performances of the year. He was wonderful and his performance beautiful.

by Anonymousreply 47December 11, 2019 6:18 PM

R46: Is it really that goo? how many versions of Little women are really needed?

by Anonymousreply 48December 11, 2019 6:40 PM

that good

by Anonymousreply 49December 11, 2019 6:40 PM

It is probably the best adaptation, and I have seen them all r48

It’s the classic story but with a bit more of a modern vibe from the women.

by Anonymousreply 50December 11, 2019 6:43 PM

If they are not Little Trans Women, I have no use for them

by Anonymousreply 51December 11, 2019 6:51 PM

R50: But everybody knows the story, it was done to death. I really understand the ones who voted not being too enthusiastic abou this.

by Anonymousreply 52December 11, 2019 6:53 PM

Ronan would have gotten nominated for sure if they got screeners. She’s brilliant in this.

by Anonymousreply 53December 11, 2019 6:55 PM

So I guess Joaquin, Renee, Brad and Laura are solid front runners right now. In second place would probably be Adam, Charlize, Joe and Jennifer. I wouldn’t be surprised if Charlize pulled it off with the anti Trump fever running high. I’m sure Bombshell skewers Fox News. She’s probably the only one that can pull an upset if Renée wins at the globes and SAG.

by Anonymousreply 54December 11, 2019 7:10 PM

Charlize isn’t even that good.

by Anonymousreply 55December 11, 2019 7:13 PM

Robert de Niro is a shit actor. Whose face has become a caricature of itself. See ' meet the fockers' or whatever shit is in. ' 'little trans women of color' ' would have cleaned away the SAG. Too bad.

by Anonymousreply 56December 11, 2019 7:14 PM

[quote] I’m sure Bombshell skewers Fox News

No it doesn;t.

I want the Best Actor Noms to be

Eddie Murphy

Robert De Niro

Antonio Banderas

Joaquin Phoenix

Adam Driver

by Anonymousreply 58December 11, 2019 7:18 PM

Two Popes left out too. No Pryce or Hopkins.

by Anonymousreply 59December 11, 2019 7:22 PM

LOL @ the idiot who thinks anti-Trump fervor will make people want to support a positive portrayal of Megyn Kelly.

by Anonymousreply 60December 11, 2019 7:23 PM

Charlize Theron a double oscar winner ? That's LAUGHABLE. She SUCKS ass

by Anonymousreply 61December 11, 2019 7:28 PM

I think Renee Z. for "Judy" is a shoo-in, and also Brad Pitt for "Once Upon a Time." I think the others are more open. Joaquin is overdue, but it's a comic book role, and he's not been winning many awards yet throughout awards season so far. Laura Dern is also overdue, but she's also not been winning many awards for this role this season.

by Anonymousreply 62December 11, 2019 7:35 PM

Bates doesn't deserve a nomination for Richard Jewell. It's a nothing role with one decent scene, but nothing spectacular.

by Anonymousreply 63December 11, 2019 7:41 PM

R62 she won NY Film critics supporting actress. Banderas won in NY and LA in lead, but no sag nom has finished his chances. Heath won for the Joker, so no one can make your argument of its just a comic book movie anymore. Driver could upset Phoenix, but Phoenix has the overdue factor.

by Anonymousreply 64December 11, 2019 7:42 PM

R60 fucking deplorable.

by Anonymousreply 65December 11, 2019 7:43 PM

I already had R60 on block.

by Anonymousreply 66December 11, 2019 7:50 PM

What is with the love for Lupita, Bale and Taron? The latter two don't belong in contention this year. Good performances, but in this year of many great ones it's shameful to waste those two spots. No Antonio, Hopkins, Pryce, De Niro or Sandler? Eddie Murphy would have been a change-up, if only for his career level contributions.

by Anonymousreply 67December 11, 2019 8:51 PM

[quote][R62] she won NY Film critics supporting actress. Banderas won in NY and LA in lead, but no sag nom has finished his chances. Heath won for the Joker, so no one can make your argument of its just a comic book movie anymore. Driver could upset Phoenix, but Phoenix has the overdue factor.

Agree with you re Phoenix, it looks to finally be his year. But I'm not so quick to dismiss Banderas or another actor from a less commercial outing to take Bale or Egerton's place.

by Anonymousreply 68December 11, 2019 8:53 PM

[quote]R53 Ronan would have gotten nominated for sure if they got screeners. She’s brilliant in this.

What about Timmy as the gay adolescent neighbor?

by Anonymousreply 69December 11, 2019 9:19 PM

R68 agreed about Banderas. I meant he won’t be winning the Oscar but still should get a nomination. I think the five will be Adam, Antonio, Leo, Joaquin and Jonathan Pryce. DeNiro has lost all the momentum to get into Oscar race now I think.

by Anonymousreply 70December 11, 2019 9:43 PM

In what world is the cast of Stranger Things superior to the cast of Succession. That TV nominating committee is a pack of idiots with taste up their asshole.

by Anonymousreply 71December 11, 2019 9:53 PM

Not one it of love for Our Dowager Dame Maggie

by Anonymousreply 72December 11, 2019 9:55 PM

Meryl got snubbed for Laundromat and Little Women.

by Anonymousreply 73December 11, 2019 9:55 PM

Watchmen hasn't even finished it's run. It's not eligible.

by Anonymousreply 74December 11, 2019 10:03 PM

[quote] Heath won for the Joker, so no one can make your argument of its just a comic book movie anymore.

Sure they can.

He died unexpectedly at a young age, and this was the last possible chance to give him an award.

by Anonymousreply 75December 11, 2019 10:09 PM

[quote] That TV nominating committee is a pack of idiots with taste up their asshole.

How vivid.

Not everyone can have your exquisite sense of refinement, dear.

by Anonymousreply 76December 11, 2019 10:11 PM

Meryl now has 18 nominations and 2 wins.

by Anonymousreply 77December 11, 2019 10:15 PM

Nope. Watchmen was eligible. It even got a stunt nom.

R77 She got a measly ensemble nomination.

Solo wise, she was snubbed for everything.

by Anonymousreply 79December 11, 2019 10:25 PM

I'm so glad Andrew Scott got a nomination

by Anonymousreply 80December 11, 2019 10:26 PM

Helen Mirren rightfully snubbed.

by Anonymousreply 81December 11, 2019 10:32 PM

R75 when he was alive and filming it, there was talk of Ledger you winning it. And lot of people felt he was robbed for Brokeback. If was alive, I believe he still would’ve won. Black Panther won the SAG ensemble last year, so a best pic win for a comic book film will probably happen soon. Joker is a massive hit and Phoenix will be on nomination 4. Phoenix is winning.

by Anonymousreply 82December 11, 2019 10:37 PM

Ledger winning it. ^

by Anonymousreply 83December 11, 2019 10:37 PM

I was too R19. The movie was kind of uneven and had plot holes that you could drive a truck through, but her performance was fantastic.

Netflix is just going to have to buy a movie chain (even if just a small one) R20 if awards are important to them. They are putting out a lot of good stuff (as well as some crap like any movie studio).

by Anonymousreply 84December 11, 2019 10:41 PM

Pitt did what he could, but it was a kind of lame co-lead and/or sidekick role. If he wins it will be for his career and celebrity status.

by Anonymousreply 85December 12, 2019 2:32 AM

Fuck you, R63

by Anonymousreply 86December 12, 2019 2:44 AM

Listen, Bea, you cunt, the only reason you won that Oscar is because they actually thought you were the black character modeled after Angela Davis. Imagine the Academy's surprise when some ofay white bitch walked up to accept the award.

by Anonymousreply 87December 12, 2019 3:17 AM

[quote]She's still probably better liked than Megyn Kelly.

She was probably a better person than Megyn Kelly.

by Anonymousreply 88December 12, 2019 3:41 AM

I don't understand how Charlize Theron is playing me? She's African-American! Is she in white face? That's 100% wrong.

by Anonymousreply 89December 12, 2019 3:49 AM

Renee is a lock. Joaquin is a lock. Brad is pretty much a lock....

by Anonymousreply 90December 12, 2019 3:51 AM

And I am a lock!

by Anonymousreply 91December 12, 2019 6:56 AM

We are locks for best ensemble!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 92December 12, 2019 7:32 AM

Renee is not a lock to win.

by Anonymousreply 93December 12, 2019 7:36 AM

Joker and his performance didn’t impress me.

by Anonymousreply 94December 12, 2019 8:06 AM

R94 you’re the minority

by Anonymousreply 95December 12, 2019 11:40 AM

What!!??? No CATS?

by Anonymousreply 96December 12, 2019 12:06 PM

Tragic year for actresses.

by Anonymousreply 97December 12, 2019 12:30 PM

Nicole k. bought her nom....as usual

by Anonymousreply 98December 12, 2019 1:25 PM

SAGs can’t be bought.

by Anonymousreply 99December 12, 2019 1:37 PM

Maybe r98 meant to say "Nicole K. brought her mom...as usual".

by Anonymousreply 100December 12, 2019 2:25 PM

I look at it like this r52 the stage does revivals of classics not because enough people haven't seen the stories, but because as classics they demand actual acting skill from those portraying these well known characters. If you are shit as an actor, it's going to show when you try to do classic pieces. It's an opportunity to showcase an actors talent and the directors talent. I don't mind it.

by Anonymousreply 101December 12, 2019 2:42 PM

[quote]Meryl now has 18 nominations and 2 wins.

That's 2 more than she should have had.

by Anonymousreply 102December 12, 2019 2:46 PM

Meryl should have won for The Iron Lady and Best Ensemble for August: Osage County

by Anonymousreply 103December 12, 2019 9:13 PM

And Best Ensemble for Doubt

by Anonymousreply 104December 12, 2019 9:13 PM

{quote]SAGs can’t be bought.

Unlike zoos!

by Anonymousreply 105December 12, 2019 11:10 PM

[quote]Pitt did what he could, but it was a kind of lame co-lead and/or sidekick role. If he wins it will be for his career and celebrity status.

I haven't even made it halfway through OUATIH and bored out of my skull. But I saw Brad in Ad Astra and was blown away by his performance there. I mean, if he wins for anything great, but he should have been nominated for that film. I sobbed at the end. He was just really deep in that role, and it made for a powerfully moving experience.

by Anonymousreply 106December 12, 2019 11:34 PM

[quote]Meryl should have won for The Iron Lady and Best Ensemble for August: Osage County

All your taste is in your mouth, girl!

by Anonymousreply 107December 12, 2019 11:50 PM

R103 Meryl won the Oscar for Iron Lady. She should’ve had a third Oscar for any films in between Sophie and Iron Lady. But they made her wait for a film I can’t even remember, oh well.

R106 I never thought Hollywood as a film with Oscar winning or nominated performances. But it looks like Brad will win. I’m cool with it. He’s improved as an actor the last ten years. He will bring star power to that Oscar stage. Voters won’t be able to resist getting him up there.

by Anonymousreply 108December 13, 2019 12:53 AM

Holy fucking shit- are people serious with the good reviews for Knives Out??? God, what a bore.

by Anonymousreply 109December 13, 2019 1:04 AM

I liked Knives Out.

by Anonymousreply 110December 13, 2019 1:12 AM

Knives Out not great but fun. Jamie Lee needs to be told maybe a little cosmetic surgery is better than none. Also gray hair 99%of the time just makes you look old.

by Anonymousreply 111December 13, 2019 4:19 AM

R111 She looks great. Not like plastic robot/botox queen Kidman.

by Anonymousreply 112December 13, 2019 5:07 AM

ur joking of course, neophyte, any award can be bought, specially one that has la Nicole in its tissue thin list of 'actresses'

by Anonymousreply 113December 13, 2019 6:58 AM

I think it would be hilarious if Joaquin didn’t even get an Oscar nomination. Antonio Banderas deserves to be there more than Phoenix does.

by Anonymousreply 114December 13, 2019 7:25 AM

R114 Phoenix deserves a nomination but Antonio deserves this award so much for two reasons. One) he gives the best performance of anyone (of either sex) this year Two) At 59 he is still so hot as fuck.

by Anonymousreply 115December 13, 2019 7:39 AM

I have faith in humanity and hope Renée doesn't win the Oscar. What a wretched, mannered, try-hard acting --- yes very infuriating.

And the first 5 minutes of the movie!!! Oh dear God, just stop gabbing!!!

by Anonymousreply 116December 13, 2019 10:36 AM

No. Not any award can be bought. The way the voting system works for SAGs, Oscars, Emmys and Grammys... no way they can be bought unless you have unlimited funds so you can send your bribe money to thousands of individuals all over the world.

That is just a cheap excuse when people don’t like who is nominated.

by Anonymousreply 117December 13, 2019 12:18 PM

Why are we knocking on Phoenix? Banderas 100% deserves a nomination, I think it’s nuts that the SAGs didn’t nominate him, but it is not Phoenix who should be knocked out of the race, it is Egerton, who has no business even being in the race.

He had the edge though, being that his movie came out in May so he has had all year to campaign and plant seeds.

by Anonymousreply 118December 13, 2019 12:20 PM

The Best Actor noms at the Oscars should be

Antonio Banderas

Adam Driver

Eddie Murphy

Joaquin Phoenix

Robert De Niro

If one of those is not getting nominated I hope it is De Niro, and that the spot isn’t Egerton. I am fine with Bale getting in, as that was one of the few performances of his I liked. He was lovely.

by Anonymousreply 119December 13, 2019 12:24 PM

holy cow the sags are resembling the 'hey I can buy a nomintion' golden globes more ev year....

by Anonymousreply 120December 14, 2019 12:34 PM

Nicole Kidman deserves to be nominated over Margot Robbie

by Anonymousreply 121December 14, 2019 12:38 PM

Nicole has been steadily building a cachet of awards over the years.

I bet she'll go for a Tony at some point, she was rather good in the play about Rosalind Franklin in London.

by Anonymousreply 122December 14, 2019 1:13 PM

Haha they actually nominated Kidman a few years ago for that Grace Of Monaco shitshow as well!

by Anonymousreply 123December 14, 2019 1:18 PM

I have to back through all the posts because I'm not quite up to discuss. But R39 was as funny as hell. Thank you kind sir.

by Anonymousreply 124December 14, 2019 1:32 PM

Just glad Adam Driver got a nod. I think he delivered the best performances of the year. Deniro was great. And i was a not huge fan of The Irishman.

Brad was perfect and I hope he wins. But I get he was just playing him. But I've always found him charming.

by Anonymousreply 125December 14, 2019 2:04 PM

omg adam driver is alwys adam driver::::overly sincere, mr man, so ugly u wanna hug him, and delinquently languid to the point of narcolepsy.

by Anonymousreply 126December 14, 2019 2:11 PM

Patricia Arquette wasn't that great in The Act.

by Anonymousreply 127December 14, 2019 2:16 PM

Sterling K. Brown is overrated and his character on This is Us is insufferable as fuck.

by Anonymousreply 128December 14, 2019 2:19 PM

R126 Driver is very different in different roles, what are you talking about? Paterson, Silence, Marriage Story - he doesn't do "stunt" character building (Christian Bale), but his internal "self" seems very different. Compare his eyes looking at his wife in Paterson and Marriage Story.

by Anonymousreply 129December 14, 2019 4:04 PM

I am not a fan of Driver. He comes off insincere and fake. He also married a racist.

by Anonymousreply 130December 14, 2019 4:37 PM

Someone with weeks to live looking very healthy and going on to live for 10 years and no talk of chemo. Just didn’t buy the premise how it was presented. I did like Awakafina’s performance better than hers in Crazy Rich Asians.
