As Donald DUMP gets fatter by the day, his administration moves to remove 700,000 people from food stamps

The tRump administration said on Wednesday it will make it harder for states to keep residents in the U.S. food stamp program in a move that is projected to end benefits for nearly 700,000 people.

The donald has argued that many Americans receiving food stamps through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP, do not need it given the strong economy and low unemployment. The program provides free food to 36 million Americans.

The administration has now finalized a rule that tightens guidelines on when and where states can waive limits on how long certain residents can receive benefits. The changes will move more “able-bodied” adults into the workplace, U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue said.

“States are seeking waivers for wide swaths of their population, and millions of people who could work are continuing to receive SNAP benefits,” he told reporters.

The United States generally limits the amount of time that adults ages 18-49, who do not have dependents or a disability, can receive food stamps to three months in a 36-month period, unless they meet certain work requirements.

States can apply for waivers to this time limit due to tough economic conditions. However, counties with an unemployment rate as low as 2.5% have been included in waived areas, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, which runs SNAP.

The agency is stiffening guidelines defining where recipients can reside to be eligible for waivers and standards for demonstrating whether an area has enough jobs to justify a waiver.

The U.S. unemployment rate was 3.6% in October.

“We need everyone who can work to work,” Perdue said.

But critics say the moves will hurt poor Americans.

“This is an unacceptable escalation of the administration’s war on working families, and it comes during a time when too many are forced to stretch already-thin budgets to make ends meet,” said U.S. Representative Marcia Fudge, an Ohio Democrat.

The administration has sought to tighten requirements for food stamps without congressional approval after Congress blocked a Trump-backed effort to pass new restrictions through the Farm Bill last year.

The latest rule will take effect next year and save the U.S. government $5.5 billion over five years by removing about 688,000 people from food stamps, said Brandon Lipps, a USDA deputy undersecretary.

“For those impacted it will mean less nutritious meals, or meals that are skipped altogether,” said Cassie Ramos, policy associate for the Center for Science in the Public Interest, an advocacy group.

I hope he dies of a massive heart attack.

On the toilet.

In the White House.

JUSTICE!!

by Anonymousreply 1December 5, 2019 6:16 PM

Aren't these potentially the same people who might vote for him? Doesn't seem too smart to bite the hand that votes for you

by Anonymousreply 2December 5, 2019 6:19 PM

It doesn't even matter, R2.

The fact of the matter is that he's taking food out of the mouths of poor people.

While he robs, and scams, and cheats his way to gain millions of dollars for himself and his fucking family.

They should all die in a fucking grease fire.

by Anonymousreply 3December 5, 2019 6:21 PM

But of course he favors tax breaks for the wealthy and corporations. This is going to lead to an increase in crime - theft and shoplifting. Desperate people do desperate things. He's really li t setting himself up to get completely smeared in the debates.

by Anonymousreply 4December 5, 2019 6:25 PM

I disagree R1. I want him to have a massive stroke and become an invalid dependent on others to keep him alive. I want his brain to continue functioning even though his body and voice no longer work. I want this to go on as long as possible so he experiences as much suffering as possible.

by Anonymousreply 5December 5, 2019 6:36 PM

Oooh, that's good R5!

by Anonymousreply 6December 5, 2019 6:42 PM

Merry fucking Christmas

by Anonymousreply 7December 5, 2019 7:06 PM

Some of you are such sick fucks. (But karma will take care of your asses).

by Anonymousreply 8December 5, 2019 7:08 PM

[quote] karma will take care of your asses

Not before it gets HIS fat ass.

Because NOBODY has it coming to them, more than he does.

You fucking asshole trump taint licking cunt.

by Anonymousreply 9December 5, 2019 7:09 PM

Sorry R8 but our Karma is having to put up with Trump. We've been punished enough.

by Anonymousreply 10December 5, 2019 8:18 PM

Understand this is being done in a specific way so he can "help" the states where Trump voters live, and punish the urban (read: black) cities who might not necessarily vote for him.

by Anonymousreply 11December 5, 2019 8:21 PM

Even if it did hurt the Dee-plorables in red states, they would still vote for him.

Because he loves the "white race," and he loves 'Murica.

by Anonymousreply 12December 5, 2019 10:36 PM

And don't you DARE say my son isn't a real baron!

by Anonymousreply 13December 5, 2019 10:42 PM

Serious misstep. So many Deplorables depend on freebies like this to get by.

He's obsessed with what he perceives as wasting money. Pulling troops out of here and there; Jinah ripping us off; Puerto Rico whining for electricity; and still berating Europe for not paying their NATO dues.

I bet his casino slot machines were so stingy no one ever won anything.

by Anonymousreply 14December 6, 2019 1:57 AM

Red meat to toss to the witless hillbilly trash who vote for him.

by Anonymousreply 15December 6, 2019 2:06 AM

The Deplorables who lose their food stamps that they need because they don't make enough money at Walmart to eat will still vote red. The GOP has spent 40 years slashing education budgets because an uneducated populace is exactly what they want.

They don't want critical thinkers, they want socially conservative idiots who will be distracted when the GOP says "Look! Gay marriage is the cause of your problems!" or " It's the immigrants that are making you poor and unhappy!"

Then, while they are distracted by the latest red herring that drives them to the polls, they don't notice that the repugs are robbing them blind, and giving all the money to their rich corporate donors.

by Anonymousreply 16December 6, 2019 2:21 AM

He is going to do as much damage as possible before he leaves office, including appointing a bunch of judges

by Anonymousreply 17December 6, 2019 2:46 AM

R8, karma doesn't automatically mean punishment. It is merely the result of our actions, good or bad.

by Anonymousreply 21December 6, 2019 3:29 AM

Are there no prisons or workhouses they could go to? If they would rather die, they had better do it, and decrease the surplus population.

by Anonymousreply 24December 6, 2019 6:36 PM

He is having a rally by me and our city is going to get stuck with the bill since he never pays

by Anonymousreply 25December 12, 2019 8:02 AM

But, but I have seen them buy filet and lobster on food stamps then get into a brand new Cadillac and drive off while my husband works hard all day to put food on the table.

- Debbie Deplorable

Except Debbie, you are lying. No one actually uses paper food stamps anymore. They haven't done so in 20 year! It's just a phrase, like Kleenex instead of tissue. Real people on food assistance get issued an EBT card which looks just like a credit card. You would have no way to know unless you were the checker that the person in front of you was getting help from food stamp program. So stop lying you twat like you have actually seen that happen.

by Anonymousreply 26December 12, 2019 8:24 AM

To be precise, food stamps not exist! Last I checked, in Florida if a person qualifies for SNP, he or she receives an electronic card and receives $14 per month in SNP benefits. Any intelligent person knows that President Trump and his clan are worse than evil.

by Anonymousreply 27December 12, 2019 9:20 AM

Food prices here are extremely high. Every month it is another .20 cent raise in price for everything.

by Anonymousreply 29December 12, 2019 9:40 AM

By definition, they were not working. The change is to require them to become working families.

by Anonymousreply 30December 12, 2019 9:46 AM

Being able bodied does NOT equal being employable!

by Anonymousreply 31December 12, 2019 9:53 AM

This is the result of electing someone who has NEVER been poor a day in his life. I hope a large percentage voted for him.

by Anonymousreply 32December 12, 2019 10:00 AM

R30, you don't know what you're saying. First, livable free food is not supplied to anyone by government. Please see my post at R27. All government aid is temporary for able-bodied adults under age 65. The unemployment rate quoted is false, as in the inflation rate. I know how it's done. The USA suffers from terrible underemployment. Many people must have 2 jobs to survive. 44% of Americans are paid just above minimum wage with no benefits. My educated guess is you're in the other 56%.

In the past 2 years, Amazon had net profits of $17 billion, paid no federal income tax and received a federal tax refund of $269 million! As Dr. King said in 1968, this county has welfare for the rich and rugged individualism for the poor.

People like you have the unmitigated gall to say anything about American citizens working harder when they're going. hungry? You should be in prison. No American should ever be hungry or homeless when American corporations showing profits don't pay taxes and wealthy Americans don't pay estate taxes and pay a maximum of 37% in FIT. As President Lyndon Johnson and my father said, "You can't sh*t me because I know better."

by Anonymousreply 33December 12, 2019 10:08 AM

I worked in a grocery store and food stamp recipients were not buying expensive food.

I had some friends, he worked under the table and it is true she sometimes bought expensive foods...the couple was white and that situation lasted a short time. The rich rip us off for millions and it goes on for decades, I don't freak over a couple getting a couple of free steaks.

by Anonymousreply 34December 12, 2019 10:52 AM

They will just buy booze and cigarettes with the money anyway!

by Anonymousreply 35December 12, 2019 11:20 AM

I'd wonder how 45 sleeps at night, but we all know he gives no fucks about anything or anyone other than himself.

by Anonymousreply 36December 12, 2019 11:48 AM

This is just the beginning, folks. If Trump is reelected, the Republicans hold on to the Senate and regain the House, expect a full on assault on Social Security and Medicare/Medicaid, even their entire elimination.

Trump will tout it to the Deplorables as getting all the lazy niggers, spics and fags off of welfare, and the Deplorables will lap that shit up like kittens do milk. They're too stupid to realize it will effect them as well and Donnie boy will be seen as a savior to billionaires worldwide.

by Anonymousreply 37December 12, 2019 12:09 PM

This is a shame for those who really need it but my heart doesn't bleed for the ones who take advantage of the system.

by Anonymousreply 38December 12, 2019 12:29 PM

I know people who still think it's too much money. The most you could get in Calif as an individual is about $185 per month. I know people who say oh, they could live off that but when you ask them exactly how they get say three meals or 90 meals with that including what they drink like milk, orange juice, cooking oil, butter salt pepper, vegetables, anything that you they start backsliding into other excuses like getting other meals from churches or soup kitchens. And forget about protein like chicken, meat or fish. 2 dollars a meal doesn't sound impossible until you sit down and factor in all the other things it takes to make a meal.

by Anonymousreply 39December 12, 2019 12:32 PM

This will not get through Congress. It's just being tossed out there to get his base fired up.

by Anonymousreply 40December 12, 2019 12:41 PM

Hey kids, if you happen to be born to parents Republicans don't like, you're fucked!

by Anonymousreply 41December 12, 2019 12:50 PM

Deplorables will happily vote to starve themselves if it means that a brown person will go without a meal.

by Anonymousreply 42December 12, 2019 2:10 PM

R31 here. I work in a community-based non-profit and we really make an effort to try to hire the community. Trust me, there are so many people that think they want to work, but are an absolute disaster in trying to hold onto a job. You REALLY do NOT want some of these people working.

Trump is doing what he has to do to make the rich people happy because they are the ones that will keep him out of prison. Bernie Madoff pissed off the rich people and it went badly for him, Trump wants to give them everything they want so they won't put his fat ass in prison. Rich people want all the money for themselves, screw the poor who want to eat.

by Anonymousreply 46December 12, 2019 3:50 PM

To be fair, it's not just the hicks on food stamps. There are Trump supporters in Brooklyn - the Hasids and the Russians who just absolutely abuse the EBT system. The fraud is disgusting beyond belief. Along with the medicare abuse. Hardcore Trump supporters. They're vile.

by Anonymousreply 47December 12, 2019 4:39 PM

R47, there is no Medicare abuse by Medicare beneficiaries. The rate of fraud is less than 5% of claims paid, less than any private insurance. The Feds pursue and prosecute the heavy hitters I won't name, but they are not retirees and impaired people. Again, drivel being spewed by the uninformed.

by Anonymousreply 48December 13, 2019 2:15 AM

Hopefully that will be about 700,000 more votes against him.

by Anonymousreply 49December 13, 2019 2:37 AM

R49 Trump also plans to end Social Security Disabiity. Add thousands more to that number.

by Anonymousreply 50December 13, 2019 2:45 AM

Kentucky has truly given me SOME hope. Am I a fool? I'm not seeing as many of his supporters on social media as I used to but there seems to be an increase in "Never Trumpers"

by Anonymousreply 51December 13, 2019 9:48 AM

R51, that's not representative because many retired friends/colleagues and a retired relative do not use social media and will not have any association with it. I want to take advice I saw on The DL and delete my Facebook page. Of course it does not have my personal info.

by Anonymousreply 52December 13, 2019 11:47 AM

R48, you must not be from Brooklyn nor know anything about how despicably corrupt certain communities are, because there absolutely were patients who participated in the fraud. In fact, there were signs in Russian essentially telling patients that "No one likes a squealer."

They paid patients.

"Shelikova engaged in a brazen scheme of fraudulent billing and kickbacks, going so far as to pay kickbacks to elderly patients in exchange for their Medicare numbers and their silence."

by Anonymousreply 54December 13, 2019 5:47 PM

And another case...again, Brooklyn. You think we Brooklynites haven't seen this shit going on for years? They fuck over the system and worship Trump

"As part of her guilty plea, Kovalienko acknowledged that her co-conspirators paid cash kickbacks to patients to induce them to attend her two clinics. "

by Anonymousreply 55December 13, 2019 5:48 PM

R55, duh, you proved my point. The Feds caught them and prosecuted them.

by Anonymousreply 56December 13, 2019 8:44 PM

How did I prove your point? I was commenting on THIS part of your nonsense: "[R47], there is no Medicare abuse by Medicare beneficiaries. "

You claimed there was no abuse by beneficiaries, did you not? It's actually rampant in Brooklyn alone. I can only imagine the kickbacks going on in red states, too.

by Anonymousreply 57December 13, 2019 8:47 PM

R55, haven't you ever heard nobody escapes the long arm of the law and you can't fight city hall? Everybody thinks it's all about them and what they see. I stated that CMS and DOJ keep stats on the fraud and it's about 5%, less than any private insurance fraud. Whoever cheats Medicare will be tracked down, arrested and prosecuted. The Feds monitor/record everything on cell phones/email/text messages, 24/7/365.

by Anonymousreply 58December 13, 2019 8:48 PM

R57, please define for me as best you can your understanding of the term "beneficiary"

by Anonymousreply 59December 13, 2019 8:49 PM

R58, I'm telling you right now, it's really, really bad in Brooklyn alone. You have no idea the abuse going on and I doubt there is enough manpower to take it all on which is why hundreds of millions of dollars are taken over years.

R59, YOU tell me what it means. Are you referring to the neighbor of the person on medicare? The UPS guy? Who in your world is a medicare beneficiary? Because whether you're talking about the doctor, the clinic or the patient, they're *all* on the take. Go to Brighton Beach, Brooklyn. It's common practice to abuse govt benefits.

by Anonymousreply 60December 13, 2019 8:52 PM

R60, the link to the story you published stated that the scheme was hatched and ran by the owner of "Prime Care on the Bay" and "Bensonhurst Mega Medical Care". She was NOT a Medicare beneficiary. Senior citizens were asked to provide confidential, protected Medicare data. That's a FELONY. Get that? Senior citizens may get immunity for testifying against the real perp, the lady who committed the real crimes against Medicare. Some people are so dense and don't know law. What do American high schools teach? Do you have a university education?

If you see that stuff going on, call the Feds and report it! It's your damned money!

by Anonymousreply 61December 13, 2019 9:03 PM

I don’t understand the argument that California SNAP benefits max out at $185/month and that’s not enough to feed you every meal. Well, duh. It’s not supposed to. It’s called supplemental, not full-coverage benefits.

If your food budget is $300/month, then the $185 is acting as a supplement and paying more than half. That’s a pretty good deal. If you get your budget down to $275 or $250 then you are mostly covered and only have to chip in a little bit more.

I agree that if you’re able-bodied then you should work. There are hiring signs all over the city, from Target to CVS to Starbucks. These aren’t glamorous jobs, but they’re jobs nonetheless.

by Anonymousreply 62December 13, 2019 9:11 PM

The question is, why should able-bodied adults get food subsidies off of our dime?

Get a job, parasites! There are plenty of them out there.

by Anonymousreply 63December 13, 2019 9:13 PM

R62 and R63, that's what you do not understand. Once money is deducted, it is NOT yours. It is the U.S. Treasury's. Elected officials have the right to spend that money however they wish. Under our Constitution, we have no say whatsoever under the law, like it or not. Ask any Constitutional attorney.

by Anonymousreply 64December 13, 2019 9:16 PM

R61, but you understand that the seniors were paid for providing their medicare numbers, so that the govt could be billed for services not rendered. They allowed their numbers to be used to bilk the govt and were paid for their silence. You can google more stories about the abuse in Brooklyn. So many examples and I think the govt needs to set up a task force specifically for the neighborhoods I mentioned. Believe me, I can't imagine a clinic being run in either the Russian neighborhoods or the Hasidic ones where the abuse isn't the norm rather than the exception.

I don't go to those places for healthcare, but you just know these things go on because you rarely if ever see these people pay for anything with cash or a debit/credit because they're all on medicaid, too. The overwhelming majority are on medicaid and medicare - and in the case of the former, they clearly shouldn't be.

Of course it angers me, knowing how hard my dad -an immigrant- worked from the moment he came here in the 60s and he earned his benefits. These people disgust me, but I can't report something I don't directly see, but you really do know it goes on. No one in Brooklyn would dispute it.

by Anonymousreply 65December 13, 2019 9:17 PM

R65, I'm not going to publish my credentials, but I know from what you just wrote that you're a BULLSHITTER. Medicare and Medicaid have absolutely nothing to do with each other. What other people do is none of your business and nobody else's business. The criminal in that case was the owner of those 2 businesses, not the beneficiaries. People with Medicare cards cannot engage in outright fraud. If you believe that, you're on drugs or have some other sort of problem I can't diagnose from here. If you think it's a problem and you witness it, then call the proper authorities.

by Anonymousreply 66December 13, 2019 9:21 PM

I didn't say they were connected govt-wise, R66. I'm only saying they went hand-in-hand. In other words, they pay for nothing. Govt benefits cradle-to-grave.

by Anonymousreply 67December 13, 2019 9:23 PM

The way our system works, r62, R63, R64, we do not get to direct how our tax money is spent. Some of it will go to things we approve of, some will go to things we do not approve of. Obviously, someone approves of these other things.

I don’t begrudge snap payments. I can’t imagine trying to live on that little money, even with whatever little else I could put together. It’s nothing to envy, I don’t think.

by Anonymousreply 68December 13, 2019 9:23 PM

BTW, R66, I don't want to argue with you because it's obvious, you do know what you're talking about, but I'm saying that you can't police every single individual and what they do. I really hope what you say is true regarding it only being 5%, but it's still costing hundreds of millions of dollars and it takes years before it's caught.

by Anonymousreply 69December 13, 2019 9:29 PM

This is not Medicare related but is fraud related.

When I had a bad back, I was referred to a PT clinic that looked really sketchy. I straight out told the PT guy that I really needed PT, not whatever that was, haha. He nodded knowingly. I think he said he was just cycling through until he got some education credits, indicating he was embarrassed to be associated with the clinic.

The thing is, every large program will always have waste, fraud, abuse, and inefficiencies. Until everything is run by computers, it’s a feature of human participation.

I have noticed that all my medical providers ask for IDs now. I asked recently if that’s to keep people from giving fake names and getting free treatment, and the clerk looked like she was going to hit the red button to have me strip searched, or something.

by Anonymousreply 70December 13, 2019 9:31 PM

R69, I'm only going to make 2 comments. No able-bodied commoner born in the USA gets cradle-to-grave benefits from gov't agencies. When a large branch of the federal gov't can limit fraud to only 5%, which is far below private industry, it doesn't get any better than that.

by Anonymousreply 71December 13, 2019 9:34 PM

I read today that Trump is also effectively throwing a large number of people off SSDI disability, by tightening the qualification criteria.

by Anonymousreply 72December 13, 2019 9:35 PM

R72, that's something that POTUS does not have authority to accomplish. You probably read fake news.

by Anonymousreply 73December 13, 2019 9:36 PM

R71, from your experience, what do you think the future is for Medicare? Will it be there for those under 50?

by Anonymousreply 74December 13, 2019 9:38 PM

I'm doubtful the USA will always be here as we know it, but I'm not psychic or clairvoyant. If huge changes aren't made soon, the USA is in danger of becoming a third-world country.

by Anonymousreply 75December 13, 2019 9:40 PM

R74, I've posted details about that on other threads. I'm looking for a reference since I simply can't type it again. People are probably tired of seeing all the data and figures. The GOP has basically declared they want to eliminate Social Security and Medicare. Both have been running cash-negative (current collections don't cover current payments) for almost 3 years and there are no trust funds.

by Anonymousreply 76December 13, 2019 9:44 PM

R75, The US may not be perfect, but we will NEVER become a third-world country. It just won’t happen. Do you really think that Hell’s Kitchen is going to suddenly stop having running water or electricity? Will Trader Joe’s stop having food on the shelf? I don’t think so.

by Anonymousreply 77December 14, 2019 12:12 AM

r75, the U.S. has the strongest economy in the world, so your wish for disaster will hopefully remain a fantasy.

by Anonymousreply 78December 14, 2019 12:13 AM

R78 you're living in a dreamworld. Please check the US GDP and GNP. A country has to make products to have a strong economy. The USA has a service-based economy, not manufacturing-based. Your analogy is like a person with no savings, no home, who owes a million dollars on credit cards, makes only the minimum payments and says at the end of the month my bills are paid, so everything is fine. LOL

An article was already published in mainstream media that parts of certain cities are in third-world status. Stop criticizing others, take some time and search for the article.

by Anonymousreply 79December 14, 2019 12:26 AM

by Anonymousreply 81December 14, 2019 2:10 AM

R81 you must be a redneck because none of those exist any longer.

by Anonymousreply 82December 14, 2019 2:43 AM

R81, pardon me, I'm behind the times. Today's proper term is Deplorable.

by Anonymousreply 83December 14, 2019 2:45 AM

Deplorables only approve of fraud committed by their elected repig officials

by Anonymousreply 84December 14, 2019 2:56 AM

R84 LOL

by Anonymousreply 85December 14, 2019 4:44 AM

R80, in the USA, government agencies do not fund able-bodied commoners unwilling to work. If people told you that, they are Deplorables who are liars and/or uneducated idiots.

by Anonymousreply 86December 14, 2019 4:56 AM

[quote]I don’t understand the argument that California SNAP benefits max out at $185/month and that’s not enough to feed you every meal. Well, duh. It’s not supposed to. It’s called supplemental, not full-coverage benefits.

It the most you can get if you are totally broke, have no job, no income. That really is what it was meant for. You can however earn a little money and qualify, but that limit is still really low, below the poverty line. And even if you have some shitty minimum wage job or less which is legal now, you still have to pay rent somewhere, clothes to ware, clothes to clean, transpiration, power, etc etc.

Ring, Ring the 1980's calling, It's Bill, Bill Clinton. Yeah, about that welfare thing, I just signed a law which just got passed in congress to eliminate that program. All able bodied people who seek assistance can do so for 3 months and then get a job or be cut off. No more long term payments. Only exceptions are people with disabilities, single mothers with young children and people over 65.

R88, nice comeback, but generally, assistance provided to senior citizens and people with disabilities was earned unless it's SSI. That's only available to disabled well below poverty level. As for mothers with minor children, only ongoing program is WIC nutrition. No American child should ever go hungry. Deplorables and uneducated bigots who still go on about welfare are evil when corporate welfare costs are exponential. There was a news item in papers about a town in the south where 95% of white residents receive SNP. Voter registrations are public records. The overwhelming majority of that town's residents are registered GOP. Sorry I don't have the link.

Let's back up and admit that these programs might cost a billion or two a year, with perhaps 100 million being used by potentially "undeserving" people. Now compare that to our involvement in Afghanistan, which has already cost over 2 trillion dollars. What did ANY citizen of the US get out of that expenditure? We also learned in the past two weeks that the government has been lying about that war for the past 18 years in a myriad of ways in a significant expose in the Washington Post. There are ONE THOUSAND Billions in each Trillion. So TWO THOUSAND fucking billions of dollars have gone, mostly to corrupt warlords, politicians, and drug cartels in Afghanistan, to corporate military-industrial complex people in the US, and Trump and the GOP are whining that some people are cheating the system a little to get $185 dollars a month in food support. Are you fucking kidding me?

R90, precisely, but you'll never get American bigots to comprehend that. And people in war-torn Afghanistan won't be able to grow crops for 100 years. Please be careful about quoting the Washington Post, though. That ceased being a good newspaper around 2014.
