Interview with Sean Shaw, who is leading Pete's outreach to black voters. (And yes, the interviewer, Baker Machado is gay)
The fuck is Cheddar?
I'm glad he's currently touring South Carolina with a black South Bend city councillor and she is now answering directly what he has done for black residents there with first-hand knowledge. That's a question many senators might struggle with...

On a petty, shallow note: that's one of the best pictures of Pete.
And/or, he's gaining weight and it is filling out his face.

Cheddar is a new business/politics/entertainment news network that's aimed at viewers under 40
It started out online but seems to have deals with most major cable companies now. It was recently purchased by Altice (the company FKA Cablevision) for a couple hundred million.
Much more in Wikipedia link

It's gonna be an uphill slog for Pete no matter what given the level of homophobia among Black Democrats.

r3 Thanks, interesting.

Also finance. For a while Baker Machado did these 2-minute segments on Wall Street and The Stock Exchange each morning on the PIX11 Morning News here in NYC and they would introduce him as being with the Cheddar network. That went on for like a few months and then suddenly it stopped (one can only assume Channel 11 decided to drop it). I always thought he was cute.

“Explains why he’s supporting Mayor Pete Buttigieg when the majority of the black community is not”
The majority of the black community ain’t supporting Warren, Sanders, Harris, Booker, Yang, etc. either.

R4: Fuck off.

This Cheddar interview is making quite the rounds on social media, love to see it.
Here's a Q&A with voters (white and black) in Allendale, South Carolina from earlier today, if you're interested in what sorts of issues voters bring up over there. The aforementioned South Bend councilwoman speaks at 15:20.

It's important to note that The Onion has these "negative" satires for all candidates... except Bernie. In other words, that place is Bernie Central. Somehow, that doesn't surprise me.
by Anonymous | reply 11 | December 2, 2019 11:40 PM |
r8 You know it's true. In fact, college-educated Black Democrats are more homophobic than White Democrats with no college education! Here's the full article from Nate Silver's website showing the previous graph:

r12 It is what it is and pointing that out does nothing but cause further division among minorities. We'll have all the post-mortems you can eat after the election is over, and it won't actively damage any candidate either.
by Anonymous | reply 13 | December 3, 2019 12:00 AM |
Here is what I know R12:
Nationally Buttigieg is polling at around 7%. Yet every fucking day there’s a new thread filled with white supremacist tropes demonizing black people for not supporting Buttigieg. Each of these threads = a virtual klan rally. You folks do know that white voters in all of their faux progressiveness don’t need black voters to elect Buttigieg or anyone else. The majority of white Democrats don’t want Buttigieg and the majority of white Americans don’t want him. Yet you reserve all of your idiotic diagnosis and condemnation for black people. Do you know how ridiculous you all sound.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | December 3, 2019 12:06 AM |
Conversely, r14, lots of candidates are polling poorly with black voters. Why is Pete the one being picked on? The only two who poll consistently well amongst black voters are Biden and Sanders.
Divide and conquer
by Anonymous | reply 15 | December 3, 2019 12:13 AM |
r14 You're a bit behind, darling - he's at 16% nationally now. Among black voters nationally, he's at 4%, Kamala at 5%, Warren at 6%, and Bernie at 10%. Food for thought.
[quote]The majority of white Democrats don’t want Buttigieg and the majority of white Americans don’t want him.
Hard data doesn't support your assertions. Those are your fantasies and the real world seems to be getting further away from them with each new poll.

Pete is looking good. I disagree r2, he looks less bloated, weight loss. Great haircut. AND THAT EYEBROW WAX IS FIERCE !!
by Anonymous | reply 17 | December 3, 2019 12:19 AM |
His brows do look fierce. I wonder if Chasten does them? And if he goes to a salon to get them did, why did he wait so long to get a fierce hairstyle? Are barbers not hip in South Bend? Or is it that his usual barber is an old coot? 🤔
by Anonymous | reply 18 | December 3, 2019 12:22 AM |
Eh, it is what it is. Any gay Democrat will have trouble winning the Black vote, but Pete has the additional complications of racially charged policing issues in South Bend and lack of national name recognition. Although Cory Booker must be kicking himself now that he's seen how far an out gay Rhodes scholar can go with just the White Democratic vote. He was so afraid of losing the Black vote if he came out and now look at him--far behind a White man for the Black vote and an out gay man for the Woke vote.
by Anonymous | reply 19 | December 3, 2019 12:22 AM |
Every "first" who isn't a straight white male candidate goes through this hand-wringing - Obama and Hillary went through it and they both won the popular vote in the end. Breaking the glass ceiling is usually messy, is what I'm saying.
by Anonymous | reply 20 | December 3, 2019 12:29 AM |
The race troll in this thread is probably a Trump troll trying to show division. Just block him. Hes not representative of Buttigieg supporters.

Great photos from his tour of SC State University earlier today. Man, those guys are FOINE. 🤤

As a former Pete fan and somone who has made threads boosting him on here myself, I am extremely disappointed in what he turned into. He is just a careerist trying to move up the ladder. I thought the version of himself he presented months ago was real, but as soon as was convenient he completely reinvented himself, started making dishonest attacks on liberal policy ideas, and started taking tips from Zuckerburg and lobbyists. He is no longer the candidate I thought I was supporting
I'm also black. Pete is not racist, most black people don't think he is and the very far left twittersphere is not representative of the electorate. But he did not take any particular interest in the black community in South Bend when he was in office. And based on how quickly he remade himself in just this primary, I don't believe him when he says he wants to be better on issues of race in the future. I think it's just another thing he will throw away when it becomes politicially convenient to do so (ie. as soon as the dem primary is over)
For now, I'm a hard no
by Anonymous | reply 23 | December 3, 2019 1:05 AM |
Yes, I have the same take as R23 (I'm white). I'm disappointed at how calculated he's turned out to be.

I am too former supporter of the homosexual Mayor of Indiana Pete
Always I am thinking "You Go, Gurlina" when I am seeing that another fellow homosexual is trying to be the president
But now I see that his politics are too much the careerist and party apparatchik for a flamboyant personage of colors like myself. I want candidate who is cranky and old and easy for Comrade Putin to use kompromat against.
So no mores Mayor Pete for me. I am now the supporter of Tulsi Gabbard who is fierce and woke and a true diva. Now is my bae Tulsi
Okay, I have spilled all of my tea!

[quote]and started taking tips from Zuckerburg and lobbyists
Found the Bernie Bro talking point. They met once in 2017 when Zuckerberg was touring US cities. He then employed as data analysts three people who used to work at Zuckerberg-owned companies (not even Facebook). I truly do not understand why high-skilled American workers - the envy of the world - are suddenly thought of as the devil. Especially when the GOP is light years ahead of the Dem when it comes to running a data-driven campaign.
[quote]But he did not take any particular interest in the black community in South Bend when he was in office.
So the first-hand experience at r9 by Sharon McBride who actually lives in South Bend doesn't matter? You just dismiss a black woman because you don't like what she has to say?
[quote]I'm also black.
I'm also black and gay and I still support Pete.

Three posts from "former Pete supporters", all posting lengthy paragraphs within three minutes of each other. Not suspicious at all. 🙄
Someone's getting desperate, so it's a good sign! 😄

Photo at r22. NO PETE, NO!!!! That long coat is doing you no favors. Makes your legs look short, throws off your proportions.
Shorter coat and elevator shoes. There’s no shame in that, you gotta do everything you can.
by Anonymous | reply 29 | December 3, 2019 1:20 AM |
You are counting my posts too I am hoping R28
Many rubles are at stake here so please believing that I am negro homosexual of colours who was former Mayor Pete supporter but now does not like him because Comrade Putin is fearful that he can beat Useful Idiot Trump!
I will soon have post from LatinQ friend who is also former homosexual supporter of Mayor Peter. None of we homosexuals of minority colors is liking the Mayor Pete any longer

Right are you my brother R23!!
At Novograd Trials of 1958, many Traitors to the Soviet Union were accused to being Careerists and were convicted of crimes against the state and disposed of, if you are catching my wind.
And now these white honky crackers are wanting us to vote for another a Careerist because we are all pederasts? I am thinking hard big NO! Speak to my hand gurl!!!

I wonder who blacks voted for in '68, '72, '76, '80, '84, '88.... did they just write-in Jessie Jackson?

R31: O/10. Have a seat.
by Anonymous | reply 33 | December 3, 2019 1:34 AM |
Life on datalounge will be better for you if you just block the trolls before we get closer to the election. R31 isn't trying to discuss anything with anyone. It doesn't have anything interesting to say. It just wants to derail the the thread with incoherent racist nonse. Just block it.
by Anonymous | reply 34 | December 3, 2019 1:35 AM |
I agree with R28's suspicions about the 3 "former Pete supporters" replies in a row. I think R30 and R31 replies are a tongue-and-cheek at the strange syntax from those 3 "former Pete supporters".
by Anonymous | reply 35 | December 3, 2019 2:30 AM |
I've never really cared for Pete, to be honest. He comes across as too impressed with himself. That anecdote about him learning Norwegian just to read a book was eye-roll worthy.
