Billy Dee Williams is Genderfluid

In a recent interview the 82-year-old actor opened up about his gender and reflected on his career.

Billy Dee Williams is perhaps best known for his role as Lando Calrissian in the 1980’s Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back, but at 82-years-old, Williams wants you to know he’s breaking the gender binary.

The Star Wars actor recently opened up about his gender fluidity and using both he/him and she/her pronouns in an interview with Esquire. "I say ‘himself’ and ‘herself,’ because I also see myself as feminine as well as masculine," he said. "I’m a very soft person. I’m not afraid to show that side of myself.”

“I never tried to be anything except myself,” Williams said. “I think of myself as a relatively colorful character who doesn’t take himself or herself too seriously.”

When told that Donald Glover, who portrayed Lando in 2018’s Solo: A Star Wars Story, discussed embracing gender fluidity and sexuality ahead of his debut in the Star Wars franchise, Williams lights up. “Really? That kid is brilliant — just look at those videos,” he said, referencing Glover’s song “This Is America”.

Williams reprised his role as Lando in the upcoming The Rise of Skywalker, the final movie of the Skywalker saga. During the interview the actor also reflected how playing Lando opened doors for him and other actors of color including The Rock and Jamie Foxx, who both say they are indebted to him for their careers. According to Esquire, Lando marked the inclusion of “a complex Black character” in a genre that still remains “notoriously white.”

Williams cites the most memorable moment of his career as his role in Brian's Song as Gale Sayers, a 1971 Emmy award winning film about two football players who were roommates and best friends. “It was a love story, really," Williams said of that film. "Between two guys. Without sex. It ended up being a kind of breakthrough in terms of racial division.”

When asked if “this is the end for Lando,” Williams said that it depends on “how much money is generated.”

“It’s a conclusion — certainly it depends on how much money is generated. That’s when they determine where’s the conclusion,” he said. “The one thing about show business, you can resurrect anything.”

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker is set to be released on December 20 with unused footage of Carrie Fisher being used to help complete the story. Fisher who would have played a key role in the film, died in December 2016 before filming.

I call myself Her Majesty, Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland. I expect you to do the same.

by Anonymousreply 3November 30, 2019 11:56 PM

Oh fuck this noise.

by Anonymousreply 4November 30, 2019 11:59 PM

Please tell me that an 82-year-old man trying to jump on this bandwagon is a sign that it is now officially "uncool" and "cancelled."

by Anonymousreply 5December 1, 2019 12:00 AM

And [italic]Star Wars[/italic] is officially dead to me.

by Anonymousreply 6December 1, 2019 12:03 AM

And here come the TRIGGERED SNOWFLAKES, right on cue...

by Anonymousreply 7December 1, 2019 12:20 AM

Eldergays, were there any homosexual rumors about her?

by Anonymousreply 8December 1, 2019 12:36 AM

"And here come the TRIGGERED SNOWFLAKES, right on cue..."

Triggered? No. Annoyed? Exhausted? Hoping that material reality soon asserts itself? Yes.

by Anonymousreply 9December 1, 2019 12:43 AM

TWO movies with Diana Ross would make anyone gay.

by Anonymousreply 10December 1, 2019 12:43 AM

R10 LOL!!!

by Anonymousreply 11December 1, 2019 12:44 AM

Sometimes it really is better to keep it to yourself

by Anonymousreply 12December 1, 2019 12:45 AM

I’m really speechless.

by Anonymousreply 13December 1, 2019 12:48 AM

Time to cancel gender and just have “sex at birth”. Then you can say you’re a femme male or whatever. But stop all this shit.

by Anonymousreply 14December 1, 2019 12:55 AM

R9 is so triggered she came back to insist she really, really isn’t. Okay, sure, Jan.

by Anonymousreply 15December 1, 2019 12:57 AM

Sometimes you feel like a nut, sometimes you don't. But why do you need to change pronouns just because you have a mix of masculine and feminine qualities? Doesn't that describe the vast majority of the population?

by Anonymousreply 16December 1, 2019 1:04 AM

et tu, billy dee?

by Anonymousreply 17December 1, 2019 1:08 AM

R16 nailed it.

by Anonymousreply 18December 1, 2019 1:21 AM

This just means he likes to fuck trannies.

by Anonymousreply 19December 1, 2019 1:22 AM

This might have been interesting about 40 years ago. Now, not so much.

by Anonymousreply 20December 1, 2019 1:25 AM

I think it means there is a sex story or a candle coming out and he is protecting himself now.

by Anonymousreply 21December 1, 2019 1:25 AM

by Anonymousreply 22December 1, 2019 1:30 AM

by Anonymousreply 23December 1, 2019 1:31 AM

Does this mean that Billy Dee likes wearing pretty dresses and women's underwear?

by Anonymousreply 24December 1, 2019 1:32 AM

Stop the insanity!

by Anonymousreply 25December 1, 2019 1:37 AM

What would Dominique Deveraux say about this?

by Anonymousreply 26December 1, 2019 1:40 AM

Diane would never let Billy look her in the eye.

by Anonymousreply 27December 1, 2019 1:40 AM

My eldergay children, this news is shocking!!!! Billy has been somewhat hard of hearing, maybe he mistook the questions and what they meant. I kept asking him to see an audiologist !!! In the past, we had a preliminary discussion about making a sequel to Mahogany , the plot was Brain Walker and Tracy Chambers get married and then he gets the democratic nomination for VP , the president is killed in a mountain climbing accident in Norway ( yes this is close to home for me , poor Arne RIP) and Brian Walker is sworn in as president and Tracey Chambers becomes the first lady much to the chagrin of the current first lady . Well Billy wanted us to call the movie "Laminate" and kept saying "NO Mahogany !! Laminate! Damn it !!! I pulled him aside and asked him if he had been hitting the Cognac again , he said "No, I absolutely do not want Mahogany foors in my foyer !!! I patiently explained to him , no this is a movie sequel to Mahogany the movie we did together. Well after he calmed down He said " D, we hated each other making that movie why the fuck do want to do it again?" Well interesest wained when Mr. Obama was elected president . I still think I would make an awesome first lady !!!" I think I have Michael Bloomberg's number in that old Blackberry of mine , I should give him a call !!!! You never know !!!! Come see me in concert !!! I am working on my new album that will come out in the spring !!!

by Anonymousreply 37December 1, 2019 2:35 AM

Whatever... can we just use this as a segue to talk about Mahogany - possibly the most fabulous gay movie ever made. LOOOOVE that movie - and Billy Dee was sexy as hell in it.

Though Anthony Perkins as the sexually twisted crazed photographer forcing Tracy to take the wheel in order to get a shot of sheer terror in her face may have been the highlight, the “I want my old man back” was romantically endearing.

He (and the entire cast, writer and director, for that matter) deserved some industry recognition for Undercover Brother. His Colin Powell-esque character was a riot.

He was a good looking guy back in the day. I’d love to think of him getting plowed/plowing some 70s twink ass but I doubt it. Just another gimmick. He said nothing about same sex attraction.

by Anonymousreply 67December 2, 2019 11:54 AM

Lol, so he’s gender fluid because he’s soft spoken and likes feminine things?

I’m soft spoken too and likes feminine things. That doesn’t make me gender fluid just a normal man that is soft spoken and likes many things including feminine things.

All he was saying is he's in touch with his feminine side which swinger dudes have been saying for decades to get pussy. I bet he didn't even say the phrase "gender fluid". The reporter or editor probably put that in the story for click bait.

The media lets us down once again. You can totally see how an 82 year old man was legit asking about gender fluidity, and the proceeding conversation gets taken out of context in order to generate an eye popping headline like “Billy Dee Williams Says He’s Gender Fluid.”

by Anonymousreply 79December 5, 2019 2:07 AM

[quote]The media lets us down once again. You can totally see how an 82 year old man was legit asking about gender fluidity, and the proceeding conversation gets taken out of context in order to generate an eye popping headline like “Billy Dee Williams Says He’s Gender Fluid.”

The National Enquirer has more integrity than some so-called mainstream news outlets seeking click-bait (and totally false) headlines.

R74 already figured out what probably happened in a post on this thread from 48 hours ago:

by Anonymousreply 84December 5, 2019 2:38 AM

He is not gender fluid or gay. He doesn't even know what gender fluid is. He clarifies what he said in this article.

“Well, first of all, I asked last night. I said, ‘What the hell is gender fluid?’ That’s a whole new term. But what I was talking about was about men getting in touch with their softer side of themselves. There’s a phrase that was coined by Carl G. Jung, who was a psychiatrist, who was a contemporary of Sigmund Freud, and they had a splitting of the ways because they had different ideas about the … what do you call it? Consciousness. Unconscious. It’s collective unconsciousness. But he coined a phrase that’s, ‘Anima animus.’ And anima means that is the female counterpart of the male self, and the animus is the male counterpart of the female.

“So, that’s what I was referring to. I was talking about men getting in touch with the female side of themselves. I wasn’t talking about sex, I wasn’t talking about being gay or straight. People should read [Jung]. I mean, it would be an interesting education for a lot of people.”

by Anonymousreply 86December 5, 2019 10:27 PM

Two of my personal iconic movie moments :

(1) "Lady Sings the Blues" - tight closeup shot on a grinning Louis* reveals the character who had caused Diana Ross' Billie Holiday to gasp at the sight of him; and

(2). "Thelma and Louise" - the tall. lean, sex-on-a-stick hitchhiker** jumping up and down on Thelma's motel room bed.

Universal audience reaction to both images was "Who the hell is THAT??!!

*. Billy Dee Williams ** Brad Pitt

by Anonymousreply 87December 5, 2019 11:45 PM

I think that, while he did seem to be using "gender fluid" in a way that most people don't (that may be a generational slip-up), that he makes reference to Jung's concept of the anima and animus and subscribes to them suggests he is brighter and more sincere in seeking to live a balanced life than people are giving him credit for. For Christ's sake, the man is in his 80s--give him a break and celebrate his openness of heart.

by Anonymousreply 92December 6, 2019 4:01 AM

Ugh, I hate that the article is trying to pretend like Donald Glover is some sort of gay icon. He's a known homophobe and he said that to try to make headlines. It's part of his new (and admittedly intelligent) strategy to profit off of wokeness as an artist. Listen to any of his shit made before 'Awaken, My Love!'. He's an asshole.

by Anonymousreply 93December 6, 2019 4:04 AM

I have not read one post here, but my reaction is "The motherfucker is trying to get away from beating women" The cunt ain't too creative.

by Anonymousreply 94December 6, 2019 4:05 AM

It makes me really sad that future generations of gays won't get to experiment with crossdressing or drag anymore because of how gender politics has invaded everything and turned the concept of gender expression into a black and white label driven thing.

by Anonymousreply 95December 6, 2019 4:08 AM

At the end of the day I hope you all remember that it was women that started this gender shit.

by Anonymousreply 96December 6, 2019 4:10 AM
