The Go-Go's Kathy Valentine has a memoir coming out next spring

By the description, it sounds like it will cover the earlier parts of her career, so no to my second question above. Hmmm.

It will be very hard to top the first half of Belinda's "Lips Unsealed", which was fabulous!

The other Go-Go’s finally made nice nice with her so I could see her leaving out lots of juicy stuff rather than risk being on the outs again. Maybe that was their motivation.

Why was she pushed out?

I read Kathy Valentine's twitter autobiography in real time, and thought it was a great idea. She made a lot of funny comments, and didn't out anyone as a drug user who wasn't already known as one. She said they all referred to Melissa Gilbert as "Half Gram." Belinda Carlisle includes much more explicit drug use in her book.

Belinda obviously didn't like what Kathy was writing, because she bullied Kathy out of the band and made her delete everything.

Frankly, I'd rather read Karen Valentine's memoir.

Will she talk about the fuckery that transpired when she was pushed out of guest starring on "Love Boat: The Next Wave" a few years back?

What was Kathy writing on Twitter? Talking about the others drug usage? Spilling band secrets? I have not heard this before.

In the early days of twitter, Kathy wrote about a book idea she had fell through, so she decided to write her autobiography on twitter. It was interesting because everyday she would write about an earlier time in her life, and throughout the day would add details and thoughts she has had about it since. It was a cool, interactive idea.

She referred to band members and celebrities "partying." She wasn't totally up front about drugs, but jokingly implied. After the Go-Go's broke up she went to Glendale Community College, and ultimately decided to move back to Austin, Texas.

It was a straightforward, benign story and I was surprised that Belinda was upset about it enough to kick her out of the band, and mentioned it in interviews as one of the reasons.

Bitchlinda's a control freak, obvs.

But I think there's also been some risque behavior that no one wants to revisit.

The DJs on KROQ still periodically make fun of how bad the GoGos smelled back in the day. Did Bitchlinda mention that in her book?

Besides, Belinda doesn't strike me as the type to be like that. She's very put together and meticulous in how she presents herself.

You must live a sheltered life. Those of us who lived in L.A. at the time remember Belinda's mohawk and the GoGos looking rather sloppy when they first started out. They were guests on KROQ as a local band before they hit it big. Some of the post-punk crowd wasn't big on hygiene. Belinda didn't start polishing her look until after the record company released Beauty and the Beat.

GL's 1984 time at #1 was because the show was on fire. The Four Musketeers, Reva, Alexandra, etc. all were happening at the same time.

Stupidly, Pam Long was fired not too long after the show hit #1 and it never regained that momentum, though it did stabilize after she returned in 1987.

She writes up to around 1990ish so all the shit that went down with Bitchlinda in 2012 will be book two, one assumes.

The concept that they were smelly and unwashed is why they were pictured on the record as having stepped out of the shower and had facials. It was an inside joke because the record companies all said they needed makeovers.

I saw The Go Go's last year in San Diego and she was playing with them. I don't think it's going to be as salacious as we want it to be, or everything discussed will be old news already.

Kathy does disclose her substance abuse issues that led to the band’s breakup.

They talk about egos and hostility to Jane Wiedlin’s solo ambitions, pay disparity and managers they shouldn’t have fired that also contributed to their ‘80s breakup.

All-in-all it’s a must-see for fans of the band.

Belinda believes she should have had Madonna's career.

Valentine also doesn’t hide her failings. She recounts one borderline criminal evening with other members of the Go-Go’s involving a vibrator and a passed-out roadie. The incident was videotaped, and after a porn distributor got a copy of it the tape went viral in pre-internet tape-trading circles. The whole thing, Valentine writes, still leaves her “sobbing in humiliation” and “humbled by the knowledge that moral bankruptcy existed within me that night. ... Some actions are unforgivable, and the repercussions are infinite.”

I don't think Belinda likes stories of her past drug use and other debauchery mentioned in fresh articles and newsfeeds. Although she is seriously into yoga and meditation, you can see in recent interviews with the band that she looks away and is fidgety when Kathy is speaking. Her facial expressions always reveal what she's thinking.

Which proves that Belinda was behind the fuckery with firing Kathy.

At 50something she was still acting like a fucking manipulative teenager.

Charlotte and Jane wrote most of the songs and the problems started when the other band members wanted a share of the writing royalties. Jane might have played the "band founder" card but it was nowhere near as big as the "songwriter" card.

Char, Jane and Kathy had the biggest cuts (Kathy's slightly less than Char and Jane) and then Belinda and Gina. The differences became glaring when the payments for Beauty and the Beat came out.

Most bands do an even split to avoid that shit.

R62, what bands have done that? Jane was on some show saying that there was anger and they all wanted a piece of the royalties and Jane was all "fuck you, that's MY work". She apply said that if they wanted royalties, they should write their own songs. I'm totally with Jane and Charlotte on this. That was their work They had absolutely no reason to share that with anyone.

Kathy said song publishing rights can fluctuate. It's been as low as a few thousand in a year, but if someone licenses Vacation she might get 30K for that year.
