The land of white subway tiles

A new HGTV thread since the old one is behind a paywall.

And La Leeds is still our patroness and goddess, but I figured I'd toss a photo of Muscle Mary Bianco in for a change of pace!

and hello, Dave Marrs.....

I detest subway tiles. Why do so many of the HGTV designers pick that for the kitchen?

I prefer glass mosaic tile or the hand painted concrete tile.

by Anonymousreply 2November 25, 2019 9:39 AM

Subway tiles are cheap. They're the new square tiles - covering a multitude of sins cheaply.

by Anonymousreply 3November 25, 2019 10:28 AM

I have white subway tiles in my bathroom, which was just remodeled back in 2014. I absolutely love them, and can't imagine anything else that could take their place. I have a home that was built back in the 1920's, which is quite small, and they're perfect for the bathroom. I don't get the hate.

by Anonymousreply 4November 25, 2019 10:32 AM

R2 no thanks to glass mosaic or painted cement tiles - not only are the all over HGTV as well but you can get them at any Home Depot in any suburb. Absolutely ubiquitous and low-brow.

by Anonymousreply 5November 25, 2019 11:27 AM

I like white subway tile too. I know it's trendy now, but I think it has, and will continue to age well. It's such a simple design and I like that.

by Anonymousreply 6November 25, 2019 11:31 AM

Subway tiles are pretty classic now. These awful things, in every condo and new build in shades of beige and gray now scream I am the next avocado appliances and you will always know exactly when I was installed. Plus, mind the dust.

I hate all tiles. My bathroom is wallpapered.

by Anonymousreply 8November 25, 2019 11:54 AM

Which will eventually be peeling and stained R8

by Anonymousreply 9November 25, 2019 12:24 PM

Did anyone see the fabulous aging party gay boy who bought the weekend condo in Barthelona?

R17 How the fuck did Ree Drummond manage to horn in on this?? Doesn't this woman have enough on her plate??

by Anonymousreply 21November 26, 2019 1:50 PM

God, I hate shiplap. It is so country.

I am really into the trend of detailed formal molding, wainscoting and all that jazz in bathrooms and bedrooms. I have no DIY ability so i can't do that for my own house, but I think it looks fab.

by Anonymousreply 22November 26, 2019 1:54 PM

I think subway tiles and the whole reclaimed wood look has already aged out of its stylish moment in the sun.

So has "white everything everywhere in the kitchen." Light and bright is OK but for fucks' sake, bring SOME level of contrast into play.

by Anonymousreply 23November 26, 2019 9:45 PM

i actually love ceramic tile. I loathe granite, especially the brown shit. Not a one can shake this from my core.

by Anonymousreply 24November 27, 2019 3:11 AM

I'm thinking of using some nice patterned ceramic tile as a back splash. It would give some personality to my black granite kitchen which looks soo 2007

by Anonymousreply 25November 27, 2019 12:41 PM

I love patterned ceramic tile as the flooring in bathrooms

by Anonymousreply 26November 27, 2019 1:22 PM

In L.A. we’re starting to use hunter green mosaic tile, and sometimes bathrooms are pink and peach. Walls are still white, but more and more wood is light white oak or ash. Subway tiles are out of style, for the most part, but if used, they are installed vertically and/or stacked.

by Anonymousreply 27November 27, 2019 1:51 PM

White oak is all the rage but I like warmer wood tones

by Anonymousreply 28November 27, 2019 2:32 PM

I've never understood people wanting open shelves in the kitchen or bathroom. I hate that so much. I want storage & I want stuff hidden behind cabinet doors.

by Anonymousreply 29November 27, 2019 9:21 PM

So what do you like, R5? In wall covering I mean.

by Anonymousreply 30November 27, 2019 9:27 PM

R5 here - I like slab marble (not cut into tiles) for the backsplash - and my preference is Jerusalem Gold.

by Anonymousreply 31November 27, 2019 9:33 PM

Nice, R5. I googled images. Smooth, rough, tumbled antiquated....?

by Anonymousreply 32November 27, 2019 9:38 PM

I love painting everything white and black.

by Anonymousreply 33November 28, 2019 1:09 AM

Jerusalem gold is for menopausal women. Gross!

by Anonymousreply 34November 28, 2019 4:22 AM

My bathrooms are from 1928 and still have the original tile work on the walls (one is green w/ black border, the other is gold with black border), mosaic tile floors, toilets, cast iron tub (re-enameled), and pedestal sinks. I don't ever plan to remove any of it, just maintain. At a certain point, it become part of the history of the building and removing hurts the value.

by Anonymousreply 35November 28, 2019 4:32 AM

by Anonymousreply 40November 28, 2019 3:42 PM

This is probably not worthy of a full-on post but I figured I might ask you guys your thoughts about your personal taste here. I'm preparing to move into a smallish Victorian house, and I have come to realize that my tastes haven't really changed since I first moved out on my own, about 25 years. While I can be influenced by certain trends---I like a lot of the same paint choices and furniture I've had forever. I'll be painting the living room a deep terra cotta, the master bedroom a deep green, some antiques, some modern pieces. A lot of brown and black as well. I like to live with what I like, obviously, but the only thing that's changed really has been to make things slightly more modern. I'm thrilled that in this house the kitchen and bath haven't been updated in likely 80 years, so I am going to keep them pretty old school.

by Anonymousreply 41November 28, 2019 3:52 PM

Hi everyone -

This is a thread to discuss HGTV shows, and a lot of folks are having a separate discussion about home decor here unrelated to HGTV, so I have created a thread for you to discuss those topic(s) to your heart's content. No need to thank me, just use that thread instead!

White tiles, grey paint. White tiles, white paint. White cabinetry, grey cabinetry. White or grey marble or quartz. No pattern allowed generally. FFS, where did the design go? The style? It's like institutional contract crap.

by Anonymousreply 55November 29, 2019 10:52 AM

i like ceramic tile. I like wood.

by Anonymousreply 56December 2, 2019 3:05 AM

The thing with white kitchens is you know they are clean. Some wood cabinetry warms up the space. I like white in kitchens.

by Anonymousreply 57December 2, 2019 3:09 AM

I watched a Good Bones marathon yesterday of their previous seasons (I only discovered the show this season because folks here were talking about it)

Anyway I was surprised to learn Thad is Mina's half brother by her dad. He said yesterday that his biological mom died when he was 11 and his father cut him out of his life. Karen became his pseudo mom.

by Anonymousreply 58December 2, 2019 11:37 AM

R58 I knew Thad was a half brother, but why did their dad cut him off? They redid the house of the dad and his wife in an episode and everyone got along well (although now I’m trying to think back if Thad was in that episode).

I love Mina but her squeaky voice gets on my nerves at times.

by Anonymousreply 59December 2, 2019 1:28 PM

The real question is: Will the House Hunters franchise get a new narrator? In current episodes the narrator voiced over almost all episodes, but only one or two lines. I suppose that was all she could manage. But now I wonder if future seasons will have a new narrator or none.

by Anonymousreply 60December 4, 2019 12:48 AM

by Anonymousreply 61December 4, 2019 12:51 AM

I'm sorry but the land of brown granite is hideous. White ceramic tile looks good to me.

by Anonymousreply 62December 4, 2019 4:23 AM

White ceramic tile reminds me of Florida...and not in a good way.

by Anonymousreply 63December 4, 2019 11:34 AM

I still kinda like the black counter tops. They are usually granite and look very 2000s, but I always thought food and dishes look really good on black.

by Anonymousreply 64December 4, 2019 12:03 PM

So what’s the current trend in countertops? We’re going to redo our kitchen after the new year

by Anonymousreply 65December 4, 2019 12:40 PM

R64: Black granite is not inherently bad, nor white marble, nor white painted cabinetry, nor stainless steel appliances. The problem is a specific combination that adheres too closely to a too popular trend. Follow what everyone else is doing too closely and it will look like you had the Property Brothers as designer-contractors or bought a kitchen vignette from a big box home store.

Stick to natural materials and keep design details classic or simple and avoid faddish gimmicks and colors and finishes and, FFS, "accents" and you can have a nice design that will stand a test of years. Quality of materials and simplicity of design wears much better than flash in a kitchen, and wears longer.

Now those idiotic backsplashes of tiny colorful glass tiles, sparkling "quartz" countertops, and "Live Laugh Love" signs, those are inherently bad.

by Anonymousreply 66December 4, 2019 12:43 PM

What’s going to happen to all that granite once homeowners start ripping it out to replace with something new? I hope it doesn’t end up in landfills.

by Anonymousreply 67December 4, 2019 12:52 PM

Of course it ends up in landfills, R67. It's not an easy thing to dispose of: the local Habitat for Humanity likely has a surplus, and one person's old granite countertops are not so easily chopped up and reused as someone else's new kitchen countertops. Or there's the torture of communicating with Craigslist crazies (What color is it? Do you think it would look good with white cabinets and my blue periwinkle Royal Doulton? Do you have a bathroom and a phone charger in your house for me to use when I come over and look at the countertops? I know it says that you won't deliver it but would you consider delivering it? You said it was free but would you pay me to remove it?)

[quote]What to do with old granite counter top? [quote]mikeb33September 15, 2013 [quote]I put granite in my kitchen about 5 years ago. Now I am planning a full remodel and hate to think of just throwing it in the dumpster. Do you think anybody would take it for free? There is a number of fairly large pieces as well as an undermount SS sink. Maybe Craigslist?

Maybe stop doing full kitchen remodels more often than I replace a good pair of shoes?

by Anonymousreply 68December 4, 2019 1:35 PM

[quote] Anyway I was surprised to learn Thad is Mina's half brother by her dad. He said yesterday that his biological mom died when he was 11 and his father cut him out of his life. Karen became his pseudo mom.

Tad is Mina's half brother and Mina has a half sister via her dad as well, I think.

I wonder why the father and Tad didn't/don't speak. I still wonder if Tad likes guys. Maybe it's wishful thinking.

I know I'll be raked over the coals for this but I hate to see appliances. I have my refrigerator, dish washer, etc.. housed behind cabinetry. The only appliance that shows is my range..

by Anonymousreply 70December 4, 2019 4:29 PM

if you are a red wine drinker, marble is a bad idea. Lots of stuff stain marble counter tops.

by Anonymousreply 71December 4, 2019 6:15 PM

I'm with you, r70. That would be my ultimate goal too. But I need to compromise. My husband is the cook in our house, so the kitchen setup needs to match his needs. Basically, we're on the same page. We just bicker over details, for example where small appliances are stored best etc.

There are way too many recaps throughout the show - it becomes a drag.

And they generally take the most expensive place they thought they couldn't afford...to please the frau who gave up everything back home to follow Johnnie overseas.

I enjoyed it. The couple wasn't cloying like the Fixer Upper couple and the hubby's cute. They help a couple buy a plot of land & then build their home in 100 days. They build it from the ground, help them pick all finishes & furnishings.

The first season will start 2/16

by Anonymousreply 102January 2, 2020 12:23 PM

I think Ben Napier of Home Town and Dave Marrs of Fixer to Fabulous should be in a competition show. The final challenge will be both of them wrestling while covered with oil, wearing only a jockstrap.

by Anonymousreply 103January 2, 2020 8:56 PM

hgtv definitely needs to expand their repertoire. I dislike the Magnolia people and the twins, both groups consume the majority of the airtime.

by Anonymousreply 104January 2, 2020 11:57 PM

Last night HGTV had a special called House Party and it profiled all the upcoming shows (many of them new) that will be premiering over the next several months. I'm looking forward to them all.

They also went to the homes of current hosts for brief glimpses into their actual homes. I found it odd that they showed everyone's homes except Bromstad's. I guess his sling would be a turn off.

by Anonymousreply 105January 3, 2020 12:04 AM

I like Bromstad, he can keep a straight face while speaking with those hillbillies on his lottery show. That takes much restraint and skill, I couldn't manage it. He was a good looking guy too but he has gone too far with the procedures.

by Anonymousreply 106January 3, 2020 12:35 AM

[quote] He was a good looking guy too but he has gone too far with the procedures.

And the ink.

But you're right, he's kind (at least on camera) to the guests on that show, and some of them would have to crawl up eight levels to get to the level of "trash."

by Anonymousreply 107January 3, 2020 12:59 AM

I enjoyed the episode in Paris with the Boston couple. La Leeds was in great form. The banter between her and the couple was primo. The guy was attractive so all the banter between him and her his agent was funny particularly since you could tell she thought he was hot. Yes nude sun bathing on that deck.

by Anonymousreply 108January 3, 2020 1:46 AM

Ugh. Sally Jesse Tyler Ferguson is hosting something on HGTV.

by Anonymousreply 109January 3, 2020 4:00 AM

by Anonymousreply 114January 9, 2020 2:35 AM

I could not imagine anything more ridiculous than marble countertops. That tells you right there that they have NO plans to actually cook in that kitchen.

Wouldn’t it stain? Wouldn’t it get marks on it? Do these people know to use cutting boards?

Sheer lunacy.

by Anonymousreply 115January 9, 2020 2:59 AM

Why do these stupid people beg to be on these shows, and I mean beg, they get thousand of requests each year. Then expect high quality from an industry that is all about fake backdrops, makeup and mirrors?

by Anonymousreply 116January 9, 2020 3:07 AM

Marble can be a viable option if you regularly treat it. For me that's too much trouble especially when you can get quartz that looks exactly like marble.

The best kitchen HGTV ever did was done by Candace Olson. The homeowner was a gay guy who was a professional chef. His kitchen was gigantic. He specifically asked for 1 of his counter tops to be marble for the kneading & what not. The kitchen was so huge he had plenty of other counters for doing all the other cooking.

His kitchen had to easily cost $150,000. He also had a pet African Gray Parrot. He had a HUGE aviary cage in his breakfast nook. It was like 6ft tall and 4 ft wiide.

Candace gave him the most gorgeous kitchen.

by Anonymousreply 117January 9, 2020 4:40 AM

Yeah, but who wants to constantly treat the surface.

I have heard of having a piece of marble when you knead dough or make pie crusts and stuff because it keeps really cold but for the rest it would be too much upkeep.

Oh well, if you can afford it, more power to you. 🤷🏻‍♀️

by Anonymousreply 118January 9, 2020 7:13 AM

Iv seen beautiful marble on a center island. I guess yes, if you are more middle class and cook a lot it's not practical. But when you are talking about million dollar homes, or condos, more often than not, those people eat out 90% of the time. They dust those high-end kitchens more than they need cleaning.

by Anonymousreply 119January 9, 2020 7:22 AM

R117, is this it? Note the bird cage:

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 120January 9, 2020 7:54 AM

Marble doesn't have to be hermetically sealed every fifteen minutes or even every fifteen years.

Americans are obsessed with stone having a smooth as glass shiny new appearance when they don't have to be. Marble holds up very well without obsessive treatments; all is takes is the reasonable care that any vaguely clean person would do: wipe and clean surfaces that come in contact with food and avoid chopping and cutting.

Ancient Mediterranean houses have ancient sinks and work surfaces (long, vast expanses of countertop is a 20thC and later thing) of marble that show their age but hold up fine and function perfectly. (Photo is a pantry of 1890s)

Butcher block counters have always been a classic, didn't realize they had ever gone away.

by Anonymousreply 123January 9, 2020 12:57 PM

Why not, R122? There's a long tradition of butcher block and solid wood countertops in kitchens. Each material has its own qualities and maintenance requirements, but that's easy enough to figure out and decide if it's right for you.

by Anonymousreply 124January 9, 2020 1:14 PM

I think Butcher block can warm up a kitchen..I wouldn't do the entire kitchen in Butcher block...maybe an island?

by Anonymousreply 125January 9, 2020 1:20 PM

R124 that is hideous, it looks like a piece of furniture

So more lawsuits against Ashley Victoria. Why is she still getting shows on HGTV? This is multiple lawsuits against her company for fraud, shoddy work, etc..

On the other hand, we had the hot Italian cousins who were dropped by HGTV after one single lawsuit (no fraud). I really liked their show & them. Victoria comes off as a raging sanctimonious cunt. The cousins were so likable.

Anyone remember their names or their show's name? I'm blanking. I wonder what they're up to now? I wish they were back on TV.

by Anonymousreply 127January 10, 2020 9:35 AM

Butcher block is even harder to take care of. You cant really cut on it like a chopping board which sort of spoils the whole concept. It stains and burns easily. Sure you can sand out shallow scratch marks, but deep burns and stains just penetrate like a sponge.

by Anonymousreply 128January 10, 2020 9:49 AM

Kissing Cousins... oops, I meant

Kitchen Cousins.

They were hot. Some speculated that they weren’t really cousins 😛

They always looked like they wanted to fuck.

I went to middle school in a old mansion that had been converted into a school in the mid 1950's. The main entryway and cafeteria (which was actually a covered over indoor pool) were tiled in marble in a subway tile pattern. The marble, with millions of steps from schoolboys, was obviously well worn but had developed a sort of patina of dirt in the edges and a honed satin appearance that always fascinated me as something that sort of had history and life to it. Now as an adult, I find that most people I know keep their marble floors shined to a mirror.

My house is terrazzo, which has not been buffed in decades and has a sort of a honed appearance to it that I love. I'm in the process of redoing my MCM kitchen and bathrooms, and while I am debating subway tile in the master (laid in row form, not the staggered pattern), I will use a glass tile for the kitchen backsplash. I would love marble countertops but definitely would not use a high gloss finish on them.

Why did they move the island life and Mexico life and all the other sunny HH to Saturdays ?

I don’t want that shrew, militant rehab addict on my Sunday's.

by Anonymousreply 132January 12, 2020 8:56 PM

by Anonymousreply 133January 13, 2020 4:08 AM

I'm watching HHI on demand (2 Bostonian s move to Paris, with La Leeds) and on the main splash page with the episodes---watching this on Comcast---they have a large photo of Suzanne Whang . That was a nice gesture.

by Anonymousreply 134January 18, 2020 6:49 PM

House Hunters International had an eldergay and his younger husband opening an art gallery in Puerto Vallarta. It was a nice episode overall, especially their backstories but boy did the eldergay David want a second bedroom. He stated his boundaries!!

R135 last week on “Mexico Life” they had a gay couple (one was Asian) love to PV, also so one of them could open an Art gallery! WTF is with all these art galleries? Is that code for something else?

Anyway, it’s really making me consider PV as a retirement destination.

The new season of Home Town begins Monday

by Anonymousreply 137January 18, 2020 9:00 PM

Did you see the art in that Art Gallery? I'm moving to PV to become an artist.

by Anonymousreply 138January 18, 2020 9:25 PM

R138: I couldn't see the penises behind their shoulders as HGTV kept blurring them.

by Anonymousreply 139January 18, 2020 9:45 PM

Home Town with my future ex husband Ben is back on Monday, as is Dime Store Jessica Lange/Crazy Spoons On The Wall Lady.

by Anonymousreply 140January 19, 2020 4:25 AM

When is that homophobic Texas couple Fixer Upper ever going to have gays on it. Oh I know, they said they embrace everyone, cough, cough, (just dont put them on their show). Every other show has had at least on gay episode, but they just dont seem to exist in Texas it seems.

I loved last night's Home Town. It boggles my mind that you can buy a home for $15,000 and Ben/Erin can turn it into a gorgeous home all for the total of $75K

by Anonymousreply 142January 21, 2020 11:41 AM

Yeh but you’d have to live in godawful Mississippi or wherever they are. No thanks.

by Anonymousreply 143January 21, 2020 11:43 AM

I have to commend the spoon lady. She did 2 homes last night and they were beautifully done. Nothing crazy.

by Anonymousreply 144January 21, 2020 1:32 PM

House Hunter International had two big MARY!s in PV opening an art gallery, too.

(Or did y'all upthread mean HHI and not Mexico Life?)

The older one was such a hissing priss.

The Kitchen Cousins were big on Ellen as well but they got sued for shoddy work and seemed to vanish. I see they gave cheating whore Christina a show of her own as well as Tarek getting his own show. I watched it today and in every interview her forehad did not move. She is pregnant. I didn't think you could get botox while pregnant.

I love the episode in Paris with lotta leads in the Boston couple. The guy was hot. I mean if I was in town I would follow them around just to look at him.

I’d love to see the follow up show when she walks in on him with another guy. Him looking for his new place will be fun.

by Anonymousreply 168February 1, 2020 2:22 AM

I think simple white, or neutral low-key colored subway tiles will be more timeless than many here suggest. I think it's like hexagonal small tiles for the floor... it always looks "old style" but never in an unattractive or dated way. "Classic" and "dated" can be the same thing, depending on the perceiver. Said because last year we remodeled a kitchen with white subway tiles (with a cobalt accent stripe).

We are beginning to remodel a kitchen this small craftsman cottage. The current kitchen is mid-century and ugly. Planning on Catalina or Malibu repro ceramic tiles for the backsplash etc. And a wooden counters. Tell me again why wooden counters are a bad idea? The current marble, quartz or even soapstone counters don't seem "craftsman"

by Anonymousreply 169February 1, 2020 2:54 AM

Cuntina shit out her kid on last night's episode.

by Anonymousreply 170February 1, 2020 3:39 AM

I just hate subway tile. I don't care if it's considered timeless by some. I just detest them. Even doing them in a various directions doesn't help.

by Anonymousreply 171February 1, 2020 7:25 AM

I hate subway tile as well.

It’s positively the most boring tile ever.

Have any of you noticed whenever HHI is in New Zealand there is fucking grey carpet everywhere, wall to wall. What the fuck??? What is wrong with those kiwis?

by Anonymousreply 175February 9, 2020 9:12 PM

La Leeds was fab in that episode. I was binging this weekend and caught another Richard Blanco where he politely shcools a pair of whiney NYers to stop being so fussy. There also a cutey who's been on a few Cambodia episodes trying to get people luxury apartments for $300 a month. His last episode got a little homoerotic when the husband pulls him on to the bed and starts getting handsy with him.

by Anonymousreply 176February 9, 2020 9:45 PM

Yes, I saw Richard and the fussy Londoners. The bitch that wanted everything symmetrical.

by Anonymousreply 177February 9, 2020 10:06 PM

by Anonymousreply 178February 9, 2020 11:33 PM

[quote]She was fabulous, as usual, though she wanted to kill the clients (and for good reason).

Leeds wants to kill all of her clients, from the first moment they fail to buy the first property she shows to them.

"Buy it already. It's Paris! Buy it and I'll tell you where you can buy a jaunty cocksucker red beret like mind. But first buy it! There's no oven and you're a work-from-home food writer who specializes in baking? Buy a microwave. It's Paris! You need at least three bedrooms for you, four kids, and a husband? I've shown you a perfectly charming bijoux studio with a sliver view of a charming street in one of the best arrondissements. Buy it! Shut the fuck up and take what's given you, you miserable dentist's wife from Champlain. Give me your money already, sign the papers, and au revoir. I've got other shit to do besides figure out what you want. I'm showing you what you want - why to you refuse to recognize truth? It's Paris! Buy it already!"

by Anonymousreply 181February 13, 2020 6:23 PM

It's been all over SM today that HH did an episode with a throuple. Did anyone see it?

by Anonymousreply 182February 13, 2020 10:17 PM

R182 I just watched it. It was a little weird. But you could see that it was legit. The main M/F couple were married and apparently the wife was always bi, and later on they met the third (a little Filipino looking bitch) and decided to make a throuple.

The guy's kinda handsome in a straight porn actor sort of way. The women are average looking.

Other than that, it was 3 ugly suburban houses.

The weird thing is that they were from Texas and wanted to live someplace fresh and new, and of all the places they could have picked in the entire US, they picked.....Colorado Springs, CO - which is one of the most deeply evangelical areas of the country. It's like saying "I want to move to a city with tremendous job growth!!!" and then moving to....Gary, Indiana.

by Anonymousreply 183February 14, 2020 3:54 AM

I saw it as well. I thought it was different, certainly, but whatever. Live and let live.

Not really, it was off-putting and if I stop to think what it implies it’s also icky. 🤷🏻‍♀️

by Anonymousreply 184February 14, 2020 4:19 AM

Yeah, I feel bad for feeling it, but it did seem icky to me.

And though I usually could care less about crotch droppings.....my thought was, to have a throuple if you are all kid free and adults is one thing, but to involve two young children in that is quite another.

I know....MARY!

Colorado Springs has been an ultra-conservative Christian stronghold for years but for some reason there's been a huge influx of people wanting to live there recently. A friend of mine moved there from Dallas and housing costs seem pretty similar between the two.

by Anonymousreply 188February 17, 2020 3:01 AM

R188 I've visited there and parts of it are really charming. It reminds me of a cheaper Boulder or a city like Madison, WI or Ann Arbor....

.....but it's very unsettling to come down the highway and see a Focus On The Family sign. Or to have people walk up to you randomly on the street (as people did several times when we were there) to ask if they could pray for us.

Home Town doesn't normally air on Sunday's but they had a special episode tonight as a lead in to Extreme Home Makepver and 100 Days

The home nuyer on Home Town was a world traveler. He's lived all over the world & spent the last 10 years in Belize. He vicited Laurel and fell in love with it so he decided to buy a home there.

He gave Ben & Erin an unlimited budget. Sky's the limit.. That threw them because they're so used to being rather frugal

I thought I would like that show more, R198. I mean, Bristol's not hard to look at. At all.

She only glams-up at the reveal. She wears regular stuff while they’re working on the house.

Some of the designs are over-the-top but it is Vegas. Besides, most of the decorations can be removed if it is not to the tastes of the new owners.

by Anonymousreply 206February 23, 2020 2:48 PM

OK, Brett Waterman is only 55, not 65. Somewhere on one of those dumb clickbait sites, someone had a typo. He was born in 1965.

This is sort of unrelated since it’s a TLC show, but I wonder if the Trading Spaces reboot was canceled? I haven’t heard anything about even filming for a third season and we’re coming up on the time that the seasons usually start airing. The ratings were pretty bad and it just didn’t really fit in on trashy, exploitative TLC of today, but I was always kind of hoping HGTV would pick it up when it finally got canned.

by Anonymousreply 231March 6, 2020 4:42 PM

I love HomeTown for having two episodes now with The Gays.

R243 I have Hulu and one show, Sarah off the Grid, was available in the HGTV on demand that Hulu has.

by Anonymousreply 244March 12, 2020 1:45 AM

I watched last night's My Lottery Dream Home.

What the hell has happened to David?? He has new huge tattoos covering his entire neck all the way up to where the neck meets the chin/head..

He still has a fun & adorable personality & really makes that show due to his interpersonal rapport with the home buyers. Tattoos aren't my thing but I know some people like them. Even if you really like them why get them on such visible places like your entire neck & hands?

He has physically changed so much since his Color By Design show.

by Anonymousreply 245March 14, 2020 10:10 PM

[quote] What the hell has happened to David?? He has new huge tattoos covering his entire neck all the way up to where the neck meets the chin/head..

It makes it difficult to watch the show because all you can focus on are his huge, hideous tattoos. Can't HGTV make him stop?

by Anonymousreply 246March 14, 2020 10:18 PM

r246 some shows have an appearance clause in their contracts - meaning the host cannot change their appearance drastically. I am guessing the Lottery Dream Home has no such clause.

by Anonymousreply 247March 17, 2020 4:45 PM

Next he'll be getting a full facial tattoo

Liking Tarek's new show. I hate myself for saying it but....he's hot.

Sarah Richardson has two shows back-to-back on DABL starting at 3 pm, EDT. I agree, she can mix patterns and the rooms are bright and fresh, robin's egg blue and pale green. I like how she explains the design process. Not sure when these shows were originally produced.

by Anonymousreply 251March 23, 2020 7:46 PM

What is DABL?

by Anonymousreply 252March 23, 2020 9:20 PM

DABL is a Transvaginal Mesh channel.

by Anonymousreply 253March 23, 2020 10:05 PM

DABL is one of those OTA sub-channels. It has a mix of old HGTV ( "Sell this house") and old cooking shows and my favorite, "Escape to the country" showcasing the gorgeous English countryside.

by Anonymousreply 254March 23, 2020 10:44 PM

That must be a Canadian channel because it's been years since I've seen any of her shows in the US

by Anonymousreply 255March 23, 2020 11:12 PM

Watching DABL now. That hot piece of ass Dr. Chris the Pet Vet is on.

by Anonymousreply 256March 23, 2020 11:36 PM

This week's "Unsellable Houses" includes the latest version of "Does she KNOW her husband is gay?"

They sowed Helena last night for a few moments. What a gorgeous little girl.

I was astounded at the huge problem they found under the house. They got 2 estimates and one was $50,000 and the other $18,000. How is that possible? Was one company just fleecing them or was the other company just pricing to do a shitty job>

by Anonymousreply 259March 31, 2020 2:36 PM

I'm bored and there seems to be a lack of content on HHI...any shows you bitches would recommend? sometimes catch Love it or List it.

by Anonymousreply 260March 31, 2020 7:06 PM

My favorite home show is Restored. I'm waiting with bated breath for the new season.

by Anonymousreply 261March 31, 2020 8:17 PM

I want Brett Waterman to show cock.

by Anonymousreply 262March 31, 2020 8:50 PM

I like Sarah Richardson as well and see her on dabl here in the states. My other favorite show right now on that same station is 60 minute makeover. Not all the makeovers are fantastic but it’s fun to watch

by Anonymousreply 263March 31, 2020 9:02 PM

What does DABL stand for? I want to see if I get it on DirecTV.

by Anonymousreply 264March 31, 2020 11:38 PM

Dumb Ass Bitches Live!

No, seriously R264 - I don't think it's on DirecTV, it's only over the air.

Watched Bargain Mansions.

OMG Tamara's dad got even hotter. He looks great with the beard.

The Celebrity IOU show is cute. I hate the Scott bros but the Brad Pitt and Melissa McCarthy episodes have been really fun.

I completely agree. I got all verklempt as this week's episode.

by Anonymousreply 272April 26, 2020 10:40 PM

I fucking loved the reno last night on Bargain Mansions. I wasn't a fan of the outside style but she worked her magic on the inside.

I need to know the maker of that harlequin tile she used in the master bath. Just gorgeous. In all her homes I drool over her choice in light fixtures & hardware

I was surprised she said they couldn't film any walk thru because of the quarantine. I thought the HGTV shows were filmed months in advance making them prior to COVID19.

by Anonymousreply 273April 29, 2020 4:08 PM

R273 I mostly loved that reno, though....

(a) I thought it was dumb of her to put a giant marble slab over the fireplace but then cover it up with a giant painting. (Although I think that marble slab had some inconsistencies that didn't look good on camera)

(b) I loved that harlequin/diamond tile in the bathroom and I liked the marble tile, but I thought they were too busy together....I would have maybe done a simpler tile to make the harlequin pop. At least on camera, the two patterns were fighting.

I was surprised about her mentioning that too, R273, but I think they usually film the work as it happens, and then later on film the walk through. Some are only done a few weeks before air. The last Home Town they showed (about two weeks ago) was, according to Erin Napier's Twitter, done about six weeks earlier.

by Anonymousreply 274April 29, 2020 5:31 PM

I still want Daddy Ward in me quite deeply.

by Anonymousreply 275April 29, 2020 5:32 PM

I loved that harlequin tile so much I'd have done the entire bathroom in it. It probably would've been too much of a good thing but I fucking loved it. I wish I knew the maker & pattern name.

Mike Holmes did a US show Buy It Right. Filmed several episodes near me.

Had I known, I would have volunteered to take his big blond cock deep in my throat.

by Anonymousreply 278May 1, 2020 5:17 PM

I just watched an episode of Restored with two lesbians.

Dyke drama, of course - they had a car accident in the middle of the filming!

OMG this guy that was on HHI tonight was so fucking HOT. Big blond rugby daddy. Huge biceps. Had that Chris Meloni vibe and that walk where dudes walk like there's a foot long cock between his legs.

Just a big ball of testosterone. Yum!

(not the best photo but you get the idea)

Geez. All these years and I thought they walked like that because they really had a load of shit in their pants. Not dick. I never thought of that! Thanks!

by Anonymousreply 283May 29, 2020 1:47 PM

LOL R283.

Dudes like that probably really walk that way b/c they have enormous thighs and they have to sorta do that neanderthal stomp.

But I'll stick with my foot long cock fantasy. LOL

by Anonymousreply 284May 29, 2020 3:31 PM

R282 I looked for this. I miss my HHI! The Corona killed it!

by Anonymousreply 285June 9, 2020 12:18 PM

Which one was driving the Ryder truck, R279?

by Anonymousreply 286June 9, 2020 12:21 PM

R286 I think they drove a Subaru!

R282 I can't remember where in Scotland but the guy's name is Aaron Zipp. Sometimes the episodes come up in YouTube but this one hasn't yet.

Hi all, watching the 8/7/20 episode of My Lottery Dream Home in Delaware...What happened to David's hideous neck tattoos? Covered with make up? Lasered off?

Did David or HGTV hear the cries of the masses begging not to see neck tattoos during house showings? It is a mystery I cannot solve, watching on my computer.

by Anonymousreply 289August 8, 2020 4:19 AM

Some of the shows are repeats. So if no neck tats, then the show was taped before David got those monstrosities.

by Anonymousreply 290August 8, 2020 4:25 AM

R290---Checked the comcast info and it is all wrong. You are probably correct that this is an old one and no make up in use. Ugh next episode with big weird neck swirls.

by Anonymousreply 291August 8, 2020 4:31 AM

They’re tigers, aren’t they?

Still hideous.
