Some of DLs greatest threads have started out as troll threads. And sometimes they turn into a really good discussion. You just have to pick and choose.

When the responders troll back, the threads become DL gold. They become drudgery once some overly serious asshat starts hectoring us with their phony outrage at all things "pedestrian", or whichever other low-brow offense has been committed. Once the troll threads cease to be homorous, they've lost their charm.

This is true R20 and R21 but I'm referring to the more frequent ones where posters take the troll seriously and attempt rational arguments to the contrary, getting themselves more and more worked up in the process.

And thanks for the back-up Rhoda (R18) -- you just need to ignore the ones who talk trash at you--getting a response is exactly what they want. PS: Google says that "Rhoda Borrocks" was one of Bowie's joke names when he would email with Eno. Is that the reference you were going for?

Troll threads can be entertaining and a good time killer. Most of OP's examples aren't even particularly trollish, anyway. People can and do have sex in high school and with married men, even if some DL stories about those topics are false. MTF athletes participating in women's sports is a legit topic of debate in the real world and on DL.

My question is, why do so many DLers get worked up about what others choose to respond to? Nobody's forcing you to participate in threads that aren't interesting or appealing to you.
