ROBIN WILLIAMS APPRECIATION THREAD
It's been over 5 years since Robin left us and whether his frenzied, cocaine-fueled act annoyed you or you loved him to the very end we cannot ignore his comedy genius.
Much of his early stand-up and, later, talk show repartee was a rapid-fire stream-of-consciousness ad-libs that showed off his talents and he was well recognized during his career. Yes, he gave some cringy performances too, Patch Adams, anyone? But lately, I've come to appreciate his humor more and more lately.
One my faves is his condescending mime instructor scene. What are your favorite Robin William bits? Which do you detest? Share please!

Appreciate what? He just jumped up and down and rambled on like a four year old. How funny.

Yes, I acknowledged that he could be annoying, r1. Did you watch his mime sketch? You might like as he is somewhat subdued, for Robin.

Here's Robin on the Richard Pryor variety show with a whole bunch of other future stars.

He was very funny, but a little went a long way.

He was a better dramatic actor than he got credit for.
A lot of his choices in comedic roles were cringey. He was best when he could do a little of his off-the-cuff weirdness but otherwise had a good script to follow. Mrs. Doubtfire is one of his best comedic roles for this reason.

I just watched this and was mourning Robin Williams. Funny skit. Sad.

I actually think his greatest performance was as the Genie in Aladdin, and I'm not kidding.

R7 wait... are you kidding?

Holy cow, OP.
If someone was unconvinced of Robin Williams' comic genius, that clip you posted is hardly persuasive.

Some of my favorites of his roles were in The Fisher King and The Night Listener. He was a very talented and generous man, even with his faults.
I had an uncle who ended up dying of Lewey Body Dementia. His decline and loss of his capabilities was terrifying for him and devestating to see. I suspect Robin Williams was in a similar hell at the end.

I adore him. I don't know if I could have spent time with him for more than 15 minutes, but I love him in many of his films. A wonderful dramatic actor, too. I wish he'd been Oscar nominated for One Hour Photo.
Also, I always found him kinda cute and he had a nice ass.

Yah, I can see this. It's like the role was written for him. There was even touching emotional scenes he handled well as I recall.

Maybe it wasn't his best, but it was subdued for him. I dunno, It makes me laugh. As r4 stated, a little went a long way.
But is there another comedian who had such a long career in standup, t.v and movies? Plus, he won an Oscar, a couple Emmys a lots of other awards.
Yea, he had some bombs, but he was pretty original.

I thought he was good in Patch Adams, OP.

His acting range is beyond impressive. And he was a nice guy, very loyal and genuine.

Y’all are lunatics if you don’t think Robin Williams was a genius. He was a comedic powerhouse. Great actor too. Always presented a very authentic human experience as well.

A man who did numerous good deeds under the radar similar to George Michael.

I met Robin Williams in 1972? 1973? 1977? 1978? when he was a complete unknown doing a gig at the Comedy Store in Los Angeles. I was sitting at the bar, he walked up next to me, smiled and asked me "How'd you like the show?". I responded, "It was good. But your delivery is a bit too frenetic, making it sometimes difficult to understand. Either slow down or enunciate." He smiled, said "Thanks for that". And walked off.

I disliked the self-consciousness of his “mania.” It was too look-at-me-I’m-on-FIRE-baby for me.

Aladdin came on the other day and I forgot how it started. He was perfect for the role of Genie 😄

I thought he was hilarious on "Mork and Mindy" when I saw it as a kid, but am not sure I'd want to re-watch it. He made too many crappy movies, but of the performances I saw, I liked him most in "Awakenings",

I was in a psychotic break when he died and the news of his death sent me to a psychiatric inpatient floor. Where I belonged.
I always found him sexy, lovable and funny.

R25 one of the actors from Mork and Mindy was the acting teacher at my college.

I do think he was very talented, but OP's clip doesn't make me miss him.
His improv of "I don't want to see your religion" was such a lazy, old line.
Plus, making fun of mines was very done, even then.

FREE CLUE: "Thanks for that" is show biz for "Fuck you, you worthless know-it-all."

What I remember about Robin Williams is he had Christopher Reeve come up on stage during one of his concerts. He got him to bend over and he touched him on his anus.

He was always sticking his hands in his pockets during his stand up act. Crabs?
