Happy Holidays from Gap In-Store Playlists!

If you need a soundtrack for your Holiday parties this season, there are many festive Gap In-Store Playlists to choose from!

Each Gap Holiday Playlist is full of seasonal favorites as well as eclectic music from the era in which it was first released.

From twenty years ago, here is the December 1999 Gap In-Store Playlist:

Please remember that I'm still looking for many more Gap In-Store Playlists to complete my collection, so let me know if you worked at Gap from 1992 to 2006 and saved any of the paper playlists that came with each month's CD/tape.

The oldest Gap Holiday playlist I have is from December 1994. It's a widely varied mix of songs.

It's a little low key, perfect for boozy nights by the fireplace.

Holiday 1996 was when Gap sold its second CD, 'Gap Grooves,' which was a collection of mostly Techno and Electronica music. The November 1996 Pre-Holiday Playlist is not specifically "Holiday" but is a great Lo-Fi/Chill mix.

The December 1996 Gap In-Store Playlist had more traditional Holiday favorites sequenced in, but it retained an Electronica bent.

For Holiday 1997, Gap veered back to a traditional seasonal sound, as evidenced in the November 1997 "Prelude To The Holidays" playlist.

Unlike most Gap Holiday In-Store Playlists, the December 1997 playlist did not contain any then-current non-seasonal music. It was all Holiday for all four hours.

This is a perfect mix of festive faves!

The playlists for Holiday 1998 were greatly influenced by the Swing Craze at the time, which Gap was largely responsible for popularizing.

There have already been several threads on this OP. Would it have killed you to have done a search first before you posted this? I mean really? What’s wrong with having a little consideration for others and doing a search first? Would it really have been that hard? Would it?

Other great 1988 Gap In-Store Playlists can be found here, but I still need five more to complete the year 1998.

Do YOU have any Gap In-Store Playlists?

OP what started your love of gap playlists? I’m genuinely curious.

by Anonymousreply 117December 28, 2019 10:59 PM

My very first day at the Gap at Highland Park Village in Dallas (October 17, 1992) I was exposed to so much different music, which was like opening another door in my mind. I mainly only listened to Stevie Nicks, Kate Bush and Gay Bar Music prior to working at Gap. I had a huge collection of House and Dance Music from the Early Nineties, and I could mix songs together, which was very fun.

Gap exposed me to Acid Jazz, Alternative, Trance, Trip-Hop, R&B, Hip-Hop, and even more House of which I had no previous knowledge.

And every month was another four hours of different music - for fourteen years.

I realized my passion for and skill at Visual Merchandising (so much for my Bachelor's Degree in English!) and the music being played in the stores went along with my retail journey.

From DAY ONE, I was entranced with the music on the October 1992 Gap In-Store Playlist (which I've partially reconstructed from memory and still desperately need the real playlist).

This 2017 profile of me and my quest in 'The New Yorker' captures very well how captivated I was by the music when I started working at Gap in October 1992.

Here is my partially-reconstructed-from-memory playlist for the October 1992 Gap In-Store Playlist.

I'm still missing about 20 - 25 songs, but I'll never give up hope of finding someone who saved this playlist.

October 1992 and August 1998 are my two favorites, and both I do not have as of now.
