Yes, she still works. But when your first movie is Raging Bull and you receive an Academy Award nomination at 17, bigger success should have followed. She's wickedly funny in Soapdish, but really never has seemed to catch fire with the public. Lots of bad luck, from reading her Wiki page, a car accident that sidelined her for a number of years, Marlon Brando pulling out of a movie with her at the last minute. Her fiance/business partner leaving her for Raquel Welch, On and on. She seems like she'd be a fun broad to hang out with and have a few drinks. Maybe Ryan Murphy can rehabilitate her career next.
DL Movie sorts, why was Cathy Moriarity never a bigger star?

Murphy gave her a part in Assassination of Gianni Versace...she played the pawn shop owner.

Didn't realize that, R1. I'd have to go back and look at it again. She does seem to be a talent that hasn't been fully realized.

She was in “Copland,” IIRC. She was beautiful, but a very mature-looking teenager.

She's said that after the serious car accident in 1982 she fell off Hollywood's radar for a while, and when she finally recovered, the roles she wanted just weren't there. She only made three films in the 80s. By the 90s there were newer faces getting attention. Bad luck, really.

She owns a successful pizzeria in Beverly Hills. I wonder if playing the wife of Andrew Dice Clay's wife on his doomed sit-com ruined some of her momentum as well.

But I thought Casper would have made her a big star!

I always liked her. She had that Lauren Bacall/Kathleen Turner quality where she never looked or sounded young. All of those women looked and sounded like glamorous, world weary 45 year olds who drank scotch all day when they were 20.

As a you young gayling, I loved her as the villain in Casper.

Too bad she wasn't reunited with De Niro & Pesci in "The Irishman".

^ She would have delivered that one line brilliantly.

Love Cathy. She deserves better. She was also on an episode of This is Us a few years ago.
