by Anonymousreply 30November 12, 2019 11:17 PM

ALL films get old when you watch them enough times. When I was younger I had a bad habit of rewatching some of my favorites which included:

Blade Runner (over 20 times)

La Dolce Vita (over 20 times)

Abyss (close to 20 times)

My Own Private Idaho (close to 20 times)

Priest (the gay film with Linus Roache; close to 20 times, 6 of those in a theater when it was released)

Maurice (close to 20 times)

The were all on VHS and I loved lying in front of the tv and just lose myself in those worlds for a few hours. I haven't been able to watch those films for like over 15 years since I got so fed up with them. I've learnt my lesson and try now to watch a film only once in 2 to 3 years. Current and all time favorites include films like Alien, Silence of the Lambs and Shelter.

The Shining - a controversial pick, but nothing says fall like a family heading out to a remote ski lodge in the winter & losing their shit

Monty Python & Holy Grail

Dr. Zhivago

The Harry Potter movies - not the best movies in the world, but mindless entertainment after a stressful day or when nothing else is on...

It is not a movie or film but Paris is burning. I have watched it 3-5 times. It reminds me of old NYC in the 1980s.

I still cannot believe the lesbian director did not realise how during the OPULENCE scene that the drag queens were making fun of ultra wealthy people, mentioned nothing about the one black drag queen in the clip below being bisexual, and it was never mentioned that another older drag queen had a dead body hidden in his apartment. I really hope Venus Xtravaganza gets justice but I doubt this will happen.

I have lots of repeats and mine tend to stem from when I was a young one- Breakfast Club, Uncle Buck, Home Alone, Auntie Mame, Steel Magnolias. How to build an American Quilt. Stand By Me, All About Eve, The Apartment, Eternal Sunshine, Tombstone, all the Pee Wee movies are fun, Fight Club, Mommie Dearest, Whatever Happened to Baby Jane, Big Fish, Baz's Gatsby, Dances with Wolves, OG Charlie and the Chocolate Factory I have a ton, but juvenile in taste. Oh! And Trains Plains and Automobiles!

Moonstruck. I grew up working class in an extended family which was part Jewish. The crazy Italians and crazy Jews are alike. So it's a nostalgia film. And Nick Cage is gorgeous. The Hephaestus/Aphrodite allusion is also interesting there.

In addition to movies like The Wizard of Oz, Sunset Boulevard, The Women, early 70's Mel Brooks and other popular mainstream classics, I have a soft spot for whacked out , low budget indie gay comedies. I've watched the likes of Sordid Lives (both the movie and the Logo series), GBF, Steam Room the Movie, and the "Gay Movie" & Eating Out franchises more times than I should really admit. They're fun, they're silly plus there's usually some skin. I also have (ducks) most of the David De Coteau movies made before he started making those boys wander around a hideous modern mansion movies for HERE in his 1313 series. including his direct to video era straight soft core horror flicks from the 80's. Sometimes trash is just what you need.

[italic]Mars Attacks![/italic] I've seen that movie easily a dozen times, and every time I do, I notice something different.

Other faves I never get tired of:

[italic]The Bad Seed.

Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?

The Day The Earth Stood Still[/italic] (The original 1950s one).

To the point that I named my first Alaskan Malamute Klaatu. A surprising number of people got it.
