She was beautiful, she was sweet, and was a pretty good singer. Why did she disappear?!
There weren't a lot of roles for women of color in her era. (There are more now, but the competition's still fierce.) Maybe she held out for important roles rather than accepting supporting parts and television roles ... I really don't know. But I think much of it has to do with the nature of the industry, rather than simply her.

She wasn't much. I thought she was incredibly lucky, winning an Oscar for that awful song 'What A Feeling."

She should’ve had a better career after Fame, Flashdance and the Oscar and Grammy wins. Wikipedia probably has the lowdown. Not everyone one is lucky in music to have a long shelf life.
