Fox News poll: Biden leads Trump by double digits

Biden 51

Trump 39

Warren 46

Trump 41

Sunday, November 3rd, 2019

Democratic primary voters increasingly feel the need to nominate a candidate who can beat President Trump in 2020, and more think Joe Biden can do that than any of the other top Democratic hopefuls. In addition, while most Democratic primary voters are satisfied with their field, more than a quarter wish they had other options, according to a new Fox News Poll.

Biden leads the nomination race with the backing of 31 percent of Democratic primary voters, followed by Elizabeth Warren at 21 percent, Bernie Sanders at 19 percent, and Pete Buttigieg at 7 percent. In early October, Biden was at 32 percent, Warren 22, Sanders 17, and Buttigieg 4.

Kamala Harris and Andrew Yang receive 3 percent apiece, followed by Cory Booker, Tulsi Gabbard, and Amy Klobuchar each at 2 percent, and Tom Steyer at 1 percent.

Compared to March, the first Fox News Poll on the race, Biden’s support is unchanged, while Warren has gained 17 points, Buttigieg is up 6 and Sanders is down 4.

Biden is helped by a large majority of Democratic primary voters (80 percent) saying it is extremely important their nominee can beat Trump -- and more (68 percent) think he can do that than feel that way about Warren (57 percent), Sanders (54 percent), or Buttigieg (30 percent).

Far fewer, 42 percent, feel it is extremely important their candidate shares their views on major issues. However, more Democratic primary voters also say Biden shares their views (72 percent) than say the same of Sanders (68 percent), Warren (62 percent), or Buttigieg (43 percent).

Since May, the number of Democratic primary voters saying it is extremely important their nominee can defeat Trump has gone up 7 points (from 73 to 80 percent), and the portion saying it is extremely important their candidate shares their views has dropped 9 (51 vs 42 percent).

The poll, released Sunday, finds that despite having umpteen candidates to choose from, more than one in four Democratic primary voters wish they had other options (28 percent). That includes 26 percent of Biden supporters and 27 percent of Warren supporters.

Seventy-eight percent of GOP primary voters want to keep Trump as their nominee, while 69 percent of Democratic primary voters are satisfied with their field.

“If Hillary Clinton were to enter the race, she’d likely do so near the top of the pack,” says Democratic pollster Chris Anderson, who conducts the Fox News Poll with Republican Daron Shaw. "And Michelle Obama could probably clear the field.”

Twenty-seven percent of Democratic primary voters would definitely vote for Clinton, including one-third of those backing Biden and one-quarter supporting Warren.

The numbers are rosier for former first lady Michelle Obama: 50 percent would definitely vote for her, including nearly 5 in 10 of Biden’s and 4 in 10 of Warren’s supporters.

My teen sons and I were discussing this last night. They both feel that although they think Biden is just too old for the job, he’s the only one who could win. I asked about Elizabeth Warren but they think she’ll lose people along the way. But not Biden, they seem to think he has strong appeal across most age and race groups and he’s not so stinking rich as to be a total pocket case. The younger one would actually like Yang to win and the older one wants The Butt to win. But they’d like to think if Biden does get the nod, he chooses someone on the younger side for the VP gig, so it’s not like Ma and Pa Kettle running the country.

by Anonymousreply 1November 3, 2019 7:21 PM

Biden is entirely too old. I’ll be voting for Warren.

The only way I’d consider Biden is if he announces (now) who his running mate is going to be. Because we’re basically electing the running mate who WILL become President before the end of his term.

by Anonymousreply 2November 3, 2019 7:29 PM

I don’t trust anything from Fox.

by Anonymousreply 3November 3, 2019 8:05 PM

[quote] Biden is entirely too old. I’ll be voting for Warren.

This poll is about the general, not the primary.

by Anonymousreply 4November 3, 2019 8:07 PM

I would assume that these numbers will tighten up by next November.

Biden will be a terrible President.

by Anonymousreply 5November 3, 2019 8:10 PM

[quote] Biden will be a terrible President.

Please stop. You have no idea what will happen or what kind of President he will be. You have no idea really how any of them would be as President. So stop acting like you do.

by Anonymousreply 6November 3, 2019 8:12 PM

Nobody except Republicans want Biden to be the nominee. I'm not voting for an old white guy.

by Anonymousreply 7November 3, 2019 8:18 PM

[quote] Nobody except Republicans want Biden to be the nominee.

Demonstrably false.

[quote] I'm not voting for an old white guy.

Congratulations. You get to live in Trump's America four more years. And maybe for the rest of your life. Depending on when they start sending gays to concentration camps.

by Anonymousreply 8November 3, 2019 8:20 PM

What R8 said.

by Anonymousreply 9November 3, 2019 8:39 PM

R7 that's the most idiotic statement on DL. PLEASE explain why the guy who polls the best against Trump would want him to run? My gawd, Warren will be instantly pegged -- as she already is -- as a socialist who wants to raise your taxes to pay for far-far-left programs. And we'll lose.

by Anonymousreply 10November 3, 2019 8:47 PM

[quote]I don’t trust anything from Fox.

The Fox pollster is considered a decent pollster in the polling industry and is conducted separately from the news division.

The Fox polling is actually conducted together by 2 pollsters -- Democrat Chris Anderson & Republican Daron Shaw.

by Anonymousreply 13November 3, 2019 10:07 PM

[quote]Nobody except Republicans want Biden to be the nominee. I'm not voting for an old white guy.

The Orange Buffoon may have torpedoed is entire presidency because his internal polling showed that Biden is the only one who will beat him. It is as hard as fuck to unseat an incumbent, so we have to go with our guts. Are you okay with the old white guy who is currently squatting in the White House? If Biden can stop the cancer before it spreads anymore, then hold your nose and vote for him.

by Anonymousreply 14November 3, 2019 10:16 PM

I'm fine with Biden. I just hope he picks a nice VP.

by Anonymousreply 15November 4, 2019 1:49 AM

I don't care that Biden is a "white guy." I just think he's too old.

I also don't want to repeat history with someone who was formerly VP deciding that they now want to be President when they didn't run before when they had the chance. I want someone different than Obama.

Also it's not that I didn't like Obama, but him pulling the Obama card when he wants, "Why yes he AND I did that!" and then tossing it away "Well, I was just the VP and had no say over that!" also turned me off.

Finally, I didn't like that he spent his first few months of this campaign acting as if he was preordained as the chosen nominee. It was a turn off to me. I'm thankful for everyone that pushed him further left.

by Anonymousreply 16November 4, 2019 2:02 AM

It's truly extraordinary to remember that Warren is 70-years-old. 70. The front-runners are all so old.. Trump, Biden, Sanders, Warren.

by Anonymousreply 17November 4, 2019 2:07 AM

Sanders is 78.

Biden is 76.

Trump is 73.

Warren is 70.

We all know what Trump's diet is. We know about Sanders' heart issue and only one of them runs around like someone much younger, and that's Warren.

by Anonymousreply 18November 4, 2019 2:11 AM

I’m not concerned about Warren’s age. There’s a huge difference between 70 and 78. And she’s clearly in good physical shape and hasn’t shown any evidence of cognitive impairment, unlike Biden.

by Anonymousreply 19November 4, 2019 11:55 AM

"The numbers are rosier for former first lady Michelle Obama: 50 percent would definitely vote for her,"

I would love to see her run, if only because this would drive the fat, racist, white hags and their gunts (who proudly sport their "he can grab my pussy here" sweatshirts to cover up said gunts) absolutely insane.

by Anonymousreply 20November 4, 2019 12:13 PM

r5, compared to who? Trump?

Please don't be stupid.

by Anonymousreply 21November 4, 2019 12:20 PM

They need to stop asking the Michelle question. She's not running, she has no desire to run, she will never run. Enough already.

by Anonymousreply 22November 4, 2019 12:22 PM

Michelle would be a very divisive candidate. Nobody is asking for her to run.

by Anonymousreply 23November 4, 2019 12:27 PM

Joe is decrepit or at least he will be by the end of his term if he is elected. Just imagine how old he would look without the hair transplant and facial work.

But to use his own words 'go with your gut. I just can't see Warren, Bernie or Buttigieg beating Trump.

by Anonymousreply 24November 4, 2019 12:46 PM

I can’t see Biden being an effective President at his age.

by Anonymousreply 25November 4, 2019 1:41 PM

If he wins the nom, I fully expect Biden to pick the wrong VP. Like Stacey Abrams. Nobody wants to look at her, plus her financial problems are red meat for the deplorables

Kamala is from California. We already have California in the bag. We don’t need her.m

Warren has been defined by the GOP as a Commie who wants to take away your health insurance. She’s a liability to a moderate candidate.

Cory Booker has a closet full of skeletons & a history of kowtowing To pharmaceutical industry.

Julian Castro is repulsive looking, wants to give abortions to transgender women (?) & all the undecideds will be persuaded he wants open borders.

Who could he pick that wouldn’t sink him & might pick up votes in swing states?

Andrew Gillum?

by Anonymousreply 26November 4, 2019 6:41 PM

[quote] But they’d like to think if Biden does get the nod, he chooses someone on the younger side for the VP gig,

And by a "younger VP" what exactly are we realistically talking about here? Another 70 y/o? Someone who is a fresh and dewy 63?

by Anonymousreply 27November 4, 2019 6:50 PM

"Michelle would be a very divisive candidate."

And Trump ain't?

by Anonymousreply 28November 4, 2019 6:55 PM

Martha Stewart

by Anonymousreply 29November 4, 2019 8:05 PM

[quote]Who could he pick that wouldn’t sink him & might pick up votes in swing states?

Michigan Governor Gretchen Whitmer. Or possibly Amy Klobuchar. Biden will definitely be picking a woman.

by Anonymousreply 30November 4, 2019 10:49 PM

Harry Enten's observation today:

[quote]I'm not making this out of thin air... If you look at ALL the polls... Not just those listed on RCP... You've seen consistently that Biden is doing better than Warren or Sanders. Could that change? Sure. We're a year out... but the numbers are the numbers.

For the third time in my life, the Dems will win the popular vote, but lose the Electoral College tally.

by Anonymousreply 32November 5, 2019 5:08 AM

But, but, but.....The New York TIMES says.....they are CONCERNED!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 33November 5, 2019 6:39 AM

If you are selecting or NOT selecting a candidate based on their race you are a racist bigot. Yes, even you little darling lefties even though you feel entirely justified in your nonsense!

Why not move to Mississippi where everyone does this? You'll FIT RIGHT IN!

by Anonymousreply 34November 5, 2019 6:41 AM

Doesn’t matter, it’s all about the Electoral College.Trump can definitely pull this off. Someone needs to pay attention to those voting machines. Paper ballots are completely needed in 2020! The Russian factor needs to weighed....

by Anonymousreply 35November 5, 2019 9:28 AM

Biden's old but he knows how to delegate. Warren does as well, so I'm not worried about either if they get the nom. I'm only vaguely worried about Sander honestly, the rest of the potential nominees are fine. And I'll vote for Sanders if he gets the nom even if he's my least favorite, anyone who won't vote blue no matter who is a moron.

by Anonymousreply 36November 5, 2019 9:47 AM

The Biden trolls are trying it these days bolstered by the Times conservative garbage.

Don’t fall for it.

by Anonymousreply 37November 5, 2019 10:14 AM

A slew of polls out yesterday confirmed Biden decisively has the best chance of beating Trump, especially in swing states. Sanders fared decently, Warren poorly.

You should enthusiastically and happily vote for a corpse if it has the best chance of winning our country back in 2020.

R26, what about Duckworth or Debbie Dingell? They are both tough, passionate ladies.

by Anonymousreply 39November 5, 2019 11:24 AM

Duckworth doesn't have a leg to stand on.

Sorry, just had to do it.

by Anonymousreply 40November 5, 2019 12:41 PM

Go Crazy Joe!

by Anonymousreply 41November 5, 2019 12:44 PM

Polls (which usually skew White Suburban Republican because that's who has time to dally on their expensive internet gadgets) are decidedly anti-Trump these days. The tide has turned and even people who voted for him just want him gone. There is no way he can win in 2020 without rigging the election:

Do you agree or disagree with the assertion that the Trump administration used the State Department to advance President Trump's own domestic political goals?

80% = Strongly agree

2% = Somewhat agree

2% = Somewhat disagree

15% = Strongly disagree

1% = No opinion / Other
