She's 73, has lived hard, and she hasn't hard any work done (or a stylist, apparently.) But watch the video and she seems to have her marbles. She just seems frail.

Maybe she has Parkinson's. No doubt her hard living (booze and chemicals) has taken it's toll. I'm 66 and I have friends my age and slightly older who range from no real change in their movement and body habitus to those who seem like they are 85- stooped, stiff, etc. The latter group are usually the survivors of HIV and/or hard living (booze and chemicals). Take care of yourselves- it all goes by in a flash!

R22, I hadn’t heard that, but I saw it, watching the body language in that video. He’s all up in her space, with one hand weirdly grabbing her. Swear to god, I was going to make a comment about it.
She looks like a hostage forced to do a proof of life stunt.

by Anonymous | reply 41 | November 1, 2019 5:56 PM |
Everyone is acting as though Liza spent her 30s, 40s, and 50s in a bathhouse with her legs in the air sniffing meth. Jeez. She boozed a little and married gay men, what harm is there to that?
by Anonymous | reply 42 | November 1, 2019 5:58 PM |
She looks like she's lost a lot of weight - not a good sign in seniors, it indicates a major decline in health. If Liza goes tomorrow she (and we) should be happy she lived this long.
"She's 73, has lived hard, and she hasn't hard any work done"
Is that a JOKE?
by Anonymous | reply 43 | November 1, 2019 5:59 PM |

Her auction catalogue was breathtaking. Liza amassed a good deal of quality stuff. A lot of art (she had several Warhol's in addition to other pieces) as well as a treasure trove of Hollywood stuff. She must have gotten Vincente's stuff after she passed, because she an extensive collection of his things.
Liza's a mess, but she (or her advisors) knew damn well how to save for a rainy day.

She definitely is struggling with some kind of illness, which I note that the "insider" we had who kept saying she was just sick from years of partying never mentioned. That's not from years of partying, that's something like Parkinsons.
by Anonymous | reply 87 | November 2, 2019 2:08 AM |
I honestly think the encephalitis caused brain damage, coupled with the alcoholism and whatever mental illness she inherited from her mother. The rumour of HIV. Poor Liza, she's got shit genes, she had a terrible childhood, bad relationships/marriages, couldn't have children. illnesses etc. yet you won't hear a word of self pity or negativity come out of her mouth, she's always 'swell'. Good for her.

She's a female Keith Richards. When she dies there's no need to embalm her because she has enough alcohol and chemicals in her system to preserve her for centuries. She'll still look exactly the same when alien archeologists dig her up in the future like one of those dead incorrupt nuns/saints on display in those medieval European Catholic churches/cathedrals.

She looks like Carol Burnett's take on Norma Desmond. Liza is a parody of a parody. A ridiculous woman. She's not an innocent. She's aggressively needy and willfully delusional. Feinstein is going to get her money, you can be sure. David Guest helped Liza too. She always needs help. Only gay men are willing. There's something pathetic and repulsive about her. I don't get the old time DL posters affection for her at all. At least her mother was talented.

If she sold her Warhols then yes, she's probably worth $50M. She was asking for $40M for them a few years ago but I don't think we know for sure if she actually sold them or not. She made $8M when she sold her UES place in 2015 and over $1M from the estate auction last year.
She also has turned one LA property into a rental so she's got income from that. I think she's probably doing pretty well.

We call it that because that's what she always said, "Trump Mama, Liza, I'll pay the hotel bill! Trust Mama, Joey, I wasn't drinking when I was pregnant with you! Trust Mama, Lorna, I haven't taken a thing!"
by Anonymous | reply 147 | November 3, 2019 3:49 PM |
Liza has no kids, so does it matter who gets most of her money when she goes? She and Lorna have always had issues, and Lorna should be okay financially after decades of performing herself (even if most of her ventures were c-list). I think a trust is already set up for poor, dim Joey, who also doesn't have children to worry about. If this Feinstein takes good care of Liza and makes her happy in her last years, he may as well get the cash.

I can't picture Lorna allowing Feinstein just to waltz in and collect the money. First of all, doesn't he have a lot of money himself, between his nightclub and recording career?
Lorna and Liza were on Mickey Deans like white on rice when honed in on Judy. Even if Liza is charmed, Lorna can spot a bullshit artist a mile away. She's going to make sure that Joey is well taken care of first and foremost and that the money is doled out fairly.
by Anonymous | reply 149 | November 3, 2019 4:39 PM |
Liza has plenty of money to last her for the rest of her life, although she can't live extravagantly. There's not much she can do anyway with her limited mobility. She's probably content at this point to sit in her nice apartment and watch TV and have friends over for dinner and conversation. She burned her candle at both ends for decades, so she's had her fun.
Barbra Streisand probably makes more with the annual interest on her money than Liza's total net worth.

by Anonymous | reply 151 | November 3, 2019 4:49 PM |
That's assuming, R149, that Lorna outlives Liza. Given Lorna's serious, recurring breast cancer, that is not guaranteed.

She needs lots of $$$ to keep her in Marlboros, Grey Goose and Grand Marnier.
by Anonymous | reply 153 | November 3, 2019 4:52 PM |
I don't think it would necessarily be unfair if Liza left most of her money to non-relatives. It's one thing to disinherit children, quite another to disinherit siblings who are themselves senior citizens. I do think Joey should be taken care of, but I believe financial arrangements have been in place for him for years.

My partner is part of Liza’s financial planning team. I went with him to have her sign some documents and met her. She was so gracious and warm to me. She did ask her chef to bring her a Cape Cod (it was 2:00pm on a Tuesday.) We declined her offer of an alcoholic drink but had lemon mineral water. She asked her chef for a second cocktail before we left. She didn’t appear drunk, but there were some motor skills that were off somewhat. Reminded me of a man I know with Parkinson’s. We were invited to her Christmas party in December, and I will definitely be going!!

Seeing her in that interview with Feinstein reminds me of people I know who are on massive amounts of pain meds. They're a bit fluttery and speak tremulously. If that's her case, it's remarkable that she's even conscious.

Most people except few DL regulars have never heard about Mrs. Feinstein. This is a rotten attempt to get some underserved recognition. Shame on you!!! It's clearly obvious that Liza Minnelli should be left alone at this point of her life. Many will still remember her, explicetly due to her own acomplimshments ,without some old queen pushing her corpse for a tiny bit of publicity.

"It's clearly obvious that Liza Minnelli should be left alone at this point of her life."
Do you know Liza? On her deathbed she'll be trying to croak out a song and kick her leg, she lives for that crap. Someone must be there to tell her how good she looks and sounds and she believes every word. Liza clearly not ambulatory, which tells me she never put in the work to get back on her feet...or are drugs and alcohol the reason? It's extremely common for people in their sixties and seventies to have knee and hip replacements, and they don't end up in wheelchairs.
Liza has had great difficulty staying on the wagon, now that her public appearances are rare and far between I wonder what the true situation is. Pain killers, I'm sure, cigarettes, yes. During the video was there a drink or coffee with 36 sugars?

[quote]which tells me she never put in the work to get back on her feet
Not everything wrong with the human body can be fixed as long as you "put in the work!" She's been struggling with walking for quite some time and in public appearances over the last several years has done pretty well, only to be seen a month later in a wheelchair. Then a year later she's back on her feet. Clearly this is an issue that can (or could) be temporarily overcome and eventually that changes and you can't power through it anymore.

What I wouldn't give for Liza to write her autobiography. You'd think she'd want to set the record straight on a few things. But I don't think she ever will.
by Anonymous | reply 184 | November 5, 2019 5:49 AM |
Set the record straight? If Liza ever did write an autobiography, it would be a puff piece from start to finish. Reality and Liza don't have more than a nodding acquaintance.

Being strung up in a sling at Studio 54 for 5 nights a week for years would give you bad hips and knees. And HIV
by Anonymous | reply 186 | November 5, 2019 9:58 AM |
"Not everything wrong with the human body can be fixed as long as you "put in the work!"
I didn't use the explanation point, you did to reinterpret what I wrote your way, R175. And Liza is never "back on her feet" without holding on to other people. The "work" is physical therapy. It takes effort and commitment to get back on your feet after any operation, and sometimes it's painful. I've been there. Liza's history of boozing and drug use, falling on and off the wagon, combined with her inability to permanently get back on her feet - makes me question her commitment to putting in the hard work. Liza could have a severe heart and/or lung condition with all that smoking, but we don't know that.
R185, I totally agree. I don't think Liza even knows the truth, she's too busy trying to act "swell."
by Anonymous | reply 187 | November 5, 2019 1:17 PM |
It wasn't a reinterpretation, R187, it's the proper way to punctuate what I said. The exclamation mark doesn't go outside the quotation marks. If you're complaining that I should have rewritten it so that your quote of "put in the work" didn't appear at the end of the sentence, I'd like to remind you that this is Datalounge, not your homework due by Friday. It's a casual forum and I won't put in extra effort on a reply just to keep your prissy ass from complaining, mostly because you're the sort who will complain about anything, all the time, without question, and always with high indignation and the air of a victim.
You said you could tell she never put in the work to get back on her feet. Now you're walking it back, saying you merely question whether she was committed to rehabilitation.
Either way, my point stands: not everything can be fixed if you just put in the work, as you put it. Your own personal experience with physical therapy has absolutely no bearing on the situation and it's embarrassing that you don't realize that.

What’s this bullshit about her not putting in the work? Such a poor choice of words. This woman has an EGOT and has been working since she was a kid. She’s put in enough work for a few lifetimes. Deeming everything “swell” also takes work. She chooses to look for the good.

Liza has the right to keep her own secrets, but I would love to read her autobiography. There would be at least three decades of amazing dish in it.
by Anonymous | reply 193 | November 5, 2019 3:47 PM |
It would be an amazing read, only if she detailed doing lines of cocaine off of Mick Jagger’s dick at Studio 54, getting black out drunk at Sonny & Cher’s annual Halloween party, walking in on her mother Judy about to choke on her own vomit after taking a bottle of downers and reviving her by throwing her in an ice-cold shower, having a menajatrois with Donny and Marie Osmond, and getting fucked on a yacht off the coast of France to the South of France by Warren Beatty. Now that, I would read.
by Anonymous | reply 194 | November 5, 2019 4:20 PM |

by Anonymous | reply 207 | November 5, 2019 9:34 PM |
Well I was in Studio 54 on many nights when Liza was there- and downstairs as well. She did not see any behavior that many of us did not see and even participate in (sex, drugs etc)- and it was much more debauched at the Saint than Studio- or rather on a much larger scale. And yes lots of celebrities at the Saint as well- and Flamingo, and 12 West, and Paradise Garage, etc etc. back in the day.
I was not one for sex in clubs beyond a little dirty dancing and making out- I was there for the music, the dancing, the energy, and or course often aided and abetted by chemicals- which for the most part was fun and did not get the better of me.

Years ago at the Gianfranco Ferre Charity fashion show for APLA at the Century City Hotel circa 95-96. I was working media and put on the kitchen door into the room being used for press. I was told to open it when they knocked. The kitchen was deserted and dark. Suddenly, a couple appeared down the aisle coming towards me. A fat guy and a woman with a cane. As they got closer, I saw it was Liza and Ferre. Alone. No handlers, just them. Liza was hobbling due to a recent operation and I remember the silver wolf head on the black cane which was wrapped in a piece of fabric which her outfit was made from. A cane which I later bought 20 years later, but it arrived broken and couldn't be repaired.
I stood not three feet from them facing me. I watched as slowly the old lady, from her feet to knees to hips to shoulders began to straighten and when she tossed back her head, "LIZA" was here. At that moment, they knocked on the door, I opened and the pair went in to face the reporters. About ten minutes later, they knocked again, I opened the door and they came into the kitchen. Once I shut the door, "LIZA!" disappeared and headed down the aisle back to wherever it was they came from with her hobbling more than she had going into the room.
Not one word was spoken the entire time. It was amazing.

I think she was drunkish/drugged during R225's event. She never stopped using, and was in and out of rehab long after the well publicized 1980s stint in Betty Ford. I have no doubt to this very day Liza is smoking and drinking, and on pain meds for her various ailments/post op discomfort (even if the op was 20 years ago).
