I really like her and I hope she hangs on until those other losers (Booker, all the <=1%ers, Castro, etc) drop out. I still think she has what it takes, but these debate formats don't privilege her and she hurt herself with that early bus attack on Biden.

She said several weeks ago that her campaign manager told her that if she doesn't come in third place in Iowa it's all over.
I had such high hopes for her, but she is fucking finished. She just doesn't realize or want to admit it.
Over 20% of Kamala's supporters went to Warren. They know a human Titanic when they see it!

by Anonymous | reply 38 | November 1, 2019 11:05 PM |
Running for president is very, very tough and extraordinarily costly. You have to give it your best shot and be operating at 100 percent on all levels. A slight misstep or mistake in messaging can really throw a candidate off his/her game creating havoc in reaching the public and raising money.
I like Kamala. I had higher hopes for her, but it didn't work. Maybe it's not her time or maybe she's not right for the job. Not everyone is going to catch fire. There is only so much oxygen in the race and only so much the public can absorb. Other than the top tier, long-established candidates, Mayor Pete is one of the few to catch fire, and even he is hovering in fourth of fifth place. He's gaining momentum, but still hovering.

Both can't be true. He's gradually building support in Iowa where it counts, which is exactly how it should be done. Warren caught fire a bit too quickly and her campaign HATED that because you become a target overnight. No one wants the dreaded coronation narrative going for them, trust me.

"Here’s the thing: I don’t think Harris is out of this race. She has a clear and kind of obvious path back into the top tier if she can just win over some of the people who are now behind Biden (particularly black voters), Warren (college-educated whites) and the other candidates who are of her general ilk (Julián Castro, Booker, Buttigieg and O’Rourke have a combined 10 percent of the vote.) It’s entirely possible that in December or January, Democrats feel like Biden is not inspiring enough but also that Sanders and Warren have taken too many left-wing positions and are risky bets in the general. In such a scenario, Harris, along with Buttigieg, are the best positioned candidates to rise."

There was a brief moment after she lashed out at Biden where voters got sort of excited.
And then they realized, "Oh wait, busing! We HATE busing! Why TF is she in support of it?"
And then she had those "I was that little girl" t-shirts ready to go and everyone realized that it was a canned moment, plotted out days in advance
And then whatever bounce she'd gotten off of it started heading south and just kept going, especially when all of the older black politicians came out for Biden and lots of other black people realized that she was actually a bougie Indian woman from Canada married to a white Jewish guy, no matter how many times she affected an "authentic" accent, and now Yang is even ahead of her.
She has some major Stans on DL though, in the true sense of the word "Stan" (e.g., nothing the person I worship does is ever anything but perfect.)

r107 I agree but I think she's seen the error of her ways after that misjudged Twitter dig at Warren at the last debate. I predict she'll pivot hard towards the kitchen-table issues at the November and December debate. She might even attack her on healthcare where she's been pretty quiet during the last two debates. We'll see.
by Anonymous | reply 108 | November 5, 2019 8:26 PM |
She'd have to have a seismic idea to shift the narrative at this point to capture imaginations and shift the narrative. At this point hers is about failure. She blew it. And that's OK. She's still smart. She's just got to be smart somewhere else. There's worse places to be than the Senate.
The most shocking thing for me was hearing black people talk on some podcast after the first debate, saying they aren't really feeling Kamala because she's disingenuous and it's all a performance. I immediately realised she was in trouble going forward. I was certain up to that point she had that segment in the bag, but they sure aren't dummies. Fooled one too many times by the politicians...
A big section of Black Twitter have always ignored her, and preferred Warren, Bernie, Beto and even Pete over her. She’s no Obama.
by Anonymous | reply 110 | November 5, 2019 9:07 PM |
A big disadvantage she has is that she’s from California. California will vote for whoever the nominee is. But in what other states does she have an advantage? The whole west coast is blue. Her location isn’t helping her pull purple states.
If someone is looking for a VP, they’re looking for someone who can pull in more marginal states. That’s not California.
by Anonymous | reply 111 | November 7, 2019 12:55 AM |
I dont know if the state matters anymore. I mean Obama is from super blue Illinois and it didn't matter. Trump is from NY and he didn't flip it red. But yeah, VP - I get your point. Indianan Pence most likely convinced ppl in the Midwest to give Trump a chance.
by Anonymous | reply 112 | November 7, 2019 1:10 AM |
R112, I think R111 was referring to the VP pick rather than the Presidential nominee.
Obama picked Biden so that
1) he would balance out the less-experienced Obama with several decades of experience in Washington
2) Biden appealed to white working-class voters in the Midwestern states like Pennsylvania
by Anonymous | reply 113 | November 7, 2019 3:14 AM |
Traditionally, nominees pick a VP that will balance out the ticket regionally, if possible. So JFK (Massachusetts) got LBJ (Texas and western voters), even though he couldn’t stand him.
Reagan (California draft dodger) and Bush I (Massachusetts veteran). Eisenhower (Texas/Kansas, military general with no elected office experience, with Nixon, (California, very experienced politician (lawyer, Representative, Senator, also a veteran).
It’s not always about where they’re from, it’s also about balancing out age, military service, even religion. If somebody is an outlier in some way, they pick somebody that is a conformist in that way.
Obama getting Biden was a genius move. A lot of people were afraid Obama was too young and inexperienced. Everybody knew Uncle Joe forever, and they knew he was about as connected to Congress as you could possibly be, so he could help get bills passed. Excellent choice. And because people thought Obama might be assassinated by racists, there was Joe, who could step right into his shoes immediately with no lag time. And people did think about that in 2008. Obama was getting a huge number of death threats.
If it’s Buttigieg, he should definitely get an older person as VP. If it’s Kamala, a conventional white man. Warren, ethnic younger male (Castro would be good). Biden, young vibrant person. Bernie, person ready to be President immediately. Looking at it that way, Sherrod Brown would be a good choice for most of them.

[bold]‘No discipline. No plan. No strategy:’ Kamala Harris campaign in meltdown[/bold]
Kamala Harris’ campaign is careening toward a crackup. As the California senator crisscrosses the country trying to revive her sputtering presidential bid, aides at her fast-shrinking headquarters are deep into the finger-pointing stages. Campaign manager Juan Rodriguez is taking the most heat for the failings, but his defenders point their finger at the candidate's sister, Maya Harris.
As many of us have suspected, the team around her is shit, which has led her to where she is now.
by Anonymous | reply 115 | November 15, 2019 5:41 PM |
Well, she hired 'em. She is running for Chief Executive, so what does her campaign tell you about her potential presidency? She's suddenly going to get her shit together?
by Anonymous | reply 116 | November 15, 2019 5:44 PM |
Having your sister right at the top seems... like not the best of ideas, I'll put it that way. I know she trusts her but it's too messy and isn't worth the trouble.
by Anonymous | reply 117 | November 15, 2019 5:46 PM |
Buttigieg has overtaken Harris for 4th spot in the Dem race behind Biden, Warren & Sanders.
One of the surprises of the year.

Family first! It works well for me.
by Anonymous | reply 119 | November 15, 2019 5:53 PM |
I mean... some of us were cautioning about calling the frontrunners back in July already, so this isn't a surprise at all. I wish people just stopped with the punditry before that dinner in Iowa takes place. That's when the race starts in any meaningful way.
by Anonymous | reply 120 | November 15, 2019 5:53 PM |
In late October, Rodriguez informed staff that he was redeploying aides to Iowa from other states and laying off dozens of others, including at the campaign’s headquarters. He said at the time that the moves were driven by the need to stash enough money for a seven-figure TV ad buy in the weeks before the Iowa caucuses. Now, it’s unclear whether Harris will have the money to do so.
The former aide said people in the campaign began warning of declining revenues early, but that leadership dysfunction around Rodriguez, Maya Harris and others convinced the person that Harris wasn’t getting an unvarnished view of the picture. “I don’t think anybody wanted to tell her,” the former aide said, adding, “I still don’t think she knows the severity.”
Okay, this is all Very Bad. Like, "I can't believe what I'm reading" bad.

by Anonymous | reply 125 | November 15, 2019 7:04 PM |
Well, you just might see a decidedly unclassy version of her come Wednesday. She needs A MOMENT or two to break out and change her current trajectory in the polls / fundraising. Don't be surprised if she tries something outlandish.
Same goes for Booker, who is in an even more precarious a position – zero qualifying polls for the December debate.
by Anonymous | reply 126 | November 15, 2019 8:56 PM |

R127, a friend of mine donated to Pete and eventually had to unsubscribe. A bit... I will not be ignored, Dan, is that campaign.,

R128, LMFAO at, "I'm not going to be IGNORED, DAN." I do have to admit, they do send out a bunch of e-mails in a week that's like, "Damn, I just read some of your shit yesterday, what are you trying to do, ask for more money? Damn..."
by Anonymous | reply 129 | November 15, 2019 9:10 PM |
A bit... I will not be ignored, Dan, is that campaign.,
Not really when compared to other campaigns, no. Here's a nice blog that tracks all campaigns' emails every week, so you can see there are other frontrunners who are worse offenders on this front.
Besides, this shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone who has ever received emails during a presidential race. Unfortunately, this is considered normal, though I really wish they had a gentleman's agreement regarding the number of emails you can push out every week.

Kamala will go after everyone, Booker will drop his Minister of Love schtick and go after Pete. That would be my prediction. This is Booker's last shot and the ghost of Castro will loom large over him.

You OK?
by Anonymous | reply 133 | November 15, 2019 9:16 PM |
You can see Castro's and Amy's desperation last week by the amount of emails they sent.
r133 I have no idea what you're referring to, I was simply relaying objective information, as we on the left are supposed to do. There's no need to go personal, not even on an anonymous message board. Manners and all. We are all adults here, I think. 😉

What do we know about her alliance with Steven Mnuchin and his draconian, horrific, scorched earth foreclosure policies that destroyed so many, including the elderly? She couldn't explain why her CA Attorney General's office failed to prosecute such egregious predatory behavior by One West, Mnuchin's bank.
And that last minute marriage to a wealthy, connected Angeleno in the run up to the Senate bid. Originally fucking Willie Brown, the blind yet still car-driving eventual mayor of SF, however, was a masterstroke. (He struck a bicyclist coming out of the parking garage at the State Capitol and was known as a totally reckless driver in Sacramento, eventually given a driver in SF) I'm sure SF folks have even more charming stories about Willie and Kamala as they sat in their tree.
Harris dated then-California Assembly Speaker Willie Brown from 1994 to 1995.[34][35][36] Brown began introducing Harris to his political network, resulting in Harris being increasingly featured in local newspapers and society columns. According to Jack Davis, the manager of Brown's campaign for mayor of San Francisco, "'Brown [was] the darling of the well-to-do set... And she was the girlfriend, and so she met, you know, everybody who’s anybody, as a result of being his girl.'"[36]
Oh, bwah, Kamala! Please tell us more about your advancement strategies? Might they involve a remaining Koch brother?

Tulsi did not "take her down". That pock-faced, repulsive, homophobic, Putin-loving cunt just farted out a bunch of lies. Kamala was a class act during the moment, but should have attacked Tulsi's horrid background. It is such a fine line during a primary where these party members should not be slinging mud.. Tulsi is the human equivalent of a stale dog turd. With that hideous poxed skin, she should be wearing a burqa 24/7 - perhaps a practice that her cult would subscribe to? She sure knows how to hate those gays though. While Kamala officiates gay marriages. All of the troll scum here trying to stink up the joint - fuck off. Run back to Putin...you troll scumbags and you slut Tulsi.....oh, Trumpy is sharing Puti's bed tonight. Take a number then - behind Moscow Mitch, "Mother" Mike Pence, Miss Lindsey and that pass-around-bottom-whore Mattie panty-bottom Gaetz...
Kamala was a class act during the moment
Which moment was that? When she allowed the criminal Steven Mnuchin of One West Bank's criminal enterprise destroying hundreds of families with their mortgage scheme or was it that she could not understand, grasp in any way why politically at least, if not morally, that as AG she needed to prosecute Mnuchin's fucking ass off? Um, I don't know is not an adequate explanation as to why she ignored such fraudulence, malfeasance, and criminality from Mnuchin while she was the AG of California. I wish there were a way to sue her for her negligence not suing one of the few cabinet figures who is still in Trump's corner, even giving press conferences, featuring as a stand in press secretary for the idiot "party planner" grifter Sthephanie What'sErCunt, who got bruised in North Korea, but cannot seem to give a press conference.
The Swamp got even murkier with Kamala's approval, perfunctorily OKed by her as she didn't seem to know why that dreg of a purported person Mnuchin did not need to be prosecuted or for his, real, actual moral crimes against humans. But as with any Cabinet member, it is a particularly strict requirement among Trump figures that Kamala Harris has actually, what's that word when sick people in a family embolden or potentiate the sickest? Oh, yeah, enabling the GOP by accepting Mnuchin and his and hers.

I don’t think the bussing moment killed her candidacy. I think it was the second debate that did it. The bussing moment was agit-prop theater: she needed to show people she could break out, land a punch strategically, and engage fearlessly. She could have easily pivoted after that first performance and been more magnanimous toward Biden: more stateswoman-like in her posture, directing her fire to the GOP. Instead she drilled down into tone deaf wonkiness and poorly executed derision — laughing loudly at her own sarcastic jokes. She came off as a flake. And kind of crazy. I think that’s what cost her support.
