Apple Plus' flagship series "The Morning Show", unleashed to horrible reviews

Surprise! (or not really, if you were paying attention)

"Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston can't salvage this politically muddled, underthought, and underwhelming streaming misfire."

Isn't it the first show? Every talk show sucks for the first week or month. Colbert, Stewart, Conan all of them. The only show I remember being fire right out of the gate was Samantha Bee's. Both of these women annoy me, but christ.

by Anonymousreply 3October 28, 2019 1:42 PM

It's not a talk show, you freaking dumbass. It's a scripted behind the scenes drama.

by Anonymousreply 4October 28, 2019 1:45 PM

No desire to pay for yet another streaming service that will likely only be around for a short time to watch this

by Anonymousreply 5October 28, 2019 1:48 PM

I'm not surprised, I thought the trailer did not look impressive.

This is Apple's flagship show that they dropped a ton of money on, what a fuck up.

by Anonymousreply 6October 28, 2019 1:57 PM

They paid $300 million for a two season order of The Morning Show, with Aniston and Witherspoon getting $2 million an episode each

How can Apple even make good content? It's like Disney as far as G-rated tripe goes.

by Anonymousreply 9October 28, 2019 2:08 PM

Apple was very meddlesome
But the gifts haven't exactly made up for the regular Apple presence on some sets, where sources say development executives have been hands-on with ensuring that each show fits the Apple brand. While the company isn't imposing strict family-friendly guidelines ā€” early episodes of Morning Show feature the heavy use of F-bombs ā€” the understanding is that explicit content must be in service of the storyline and all projects should, ultimately, mesh with Apple's aspirational brand identity. (According to a recent BuzzFeed News report, the company also pressured creators not to portray China negatively to avoid angering the authorities.)

by Anonymousreply 13October 28, 2019 3:52 PM

Nothing could be, r13!

by Anonymousreply 14October 28, 2019 6:05 PM

Jenn and Reece are not worth that kind of money. But no one rushes out to see their s***. This shows how desperate Apple really is. Really none of the shows look good. A new Oprah show? They deserve to fall on their faces.

by Anonymousreply 15October 28, 2019 6:29 PM

Not surprised. The show looked boring. I'll stick with my Netflix and Hulu.

by Anonymousreply 16October 28, 2019 6:31 PM

Does the young, tach-saavy demographic Apple craves even watch or care about morning television?

by Anonymousreply 17October 28, 2019 6:32 PM

Have you noticed how much Jennifer Aniston has been promoting that show? I mean she's an attention w**** we get that. But I've always noticed that when actors go overboard to promote something it's usually because it's crap.

by Anonymousreply 18October 28, 2019 6:38 PM

TWO MILLION PER EPISODE???? That's what you MIGHT pay the star of a show that was already a mega hit. That is just insane.

by Anonymousreply 19October 28, 2019 6:38 PM

Each episode costs more to make than the final GOT season. Crazy. The whole ATV+ line up looks shit.

by Anonymousreply 20October 28, 2019 6:39 PM

It's still 1999 in Tim Cook's world, apparently.

Who cares about Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon anymore? Who cares about morning network television in 2019?

by Anonymousreply 21October 28, 2019 6:40 PM

Money well spent Apple. Lol

by Anonymousreply 22October 28, 2019 6:43 PM

Where is the gay content?

by Anonymousreply 23October 28, 2019 6:48 PM

Gay content? Doubtful

by Anonymousreply 24October 28, 2019 6:49 PM

The story about Apple having representatives on set all the time to make sure the show is "on brand" is a dick wilter.

You can't do quality content with a marketing team trying to prove their salaries looking over your shoulder.

They are clearly trying to appeal to the Frau demographic, who might be the people who like this.

by Anonymousreply 25October 28, 2019 6:55 PM

Apple TV was a dick wilter from the moment it was announced. I was always very skeptical, so were most people in the industry who were following it.

by Anonymousreply 26October 28, 2019 7:01 PM

Almost as bad as Facebook Watch

by Anonymousreply 27October 28, 2019 7:02 PM

by Anonymousreply 28October 28, 2019 7:03 PM
Does the young, tach-saavy demographic Apple craves even watch or care about morning television?

That demographic doesn't watch morning television. It's archaic to them.

by Anonymousreply 29October 30, 2019 1:54 AM
Where is the gay content?

I think DL fave Julian Morris has a guest appearance in one of the upcoming episodes.

by Anonymousreply 30October 30, 2019 2:05 AM

That Variety review was long-winded and meandering. I'm not sure if the were reviewing the show, or politics. It could and should have been more concise. The show looks awful, and it only makes me think less of Apple. They are a hardware company; why on earth are they trying to play "me too" by providing content? It will end in tears.

by Anonymousreply 31October 30, 2019 2:11 AM

Apple knows exactly who their audience is with this project. Der frauen (and some of their younger sisters) love love love Jen and Reese and this type of project, 40-something chicks speaking truth to power in a glamorous workplace.

Of course, it will lose pots of money, but it will command attention to Apple Plus (as it's doing right now) and ultimately, drive eyeballs to their other (lower budget) projects.

by Anonymousreply 32October 30, 2019 2:18 AM

OTOH, if it doesn't pay off for Apple Plus over 2 seasons, I foresee any number of FRIENDS reunions for Jen (probably a return of the series, a la WILL & GRACE) in short order.

Those little indie critical darling movies Jen was so fond of (CAKE, etc.) are barely getting made anymore, and they don't want her anyway.

by Anonymousreply 33October 30, 2019 2:21 AM

I enjoy Reese's failures. She is a nasty, ugly little cunt.

by Anonymousreply 34October 30, 2019 2:39 AM

by Anonymousreply 35October 30, 2019 2:44 AM
Does the young, tach-saavy demographic Apple craves even watch or care about morning television?

No, no one watches morning TV besides fraus. And theyā€™d rather watch Kathie Lee and Honda than Reese and Jen. Anyone know what kind of guests they have on the show?

by Anonymousreply 36October 30, 2019 2:46 AM

A Friends reboot, with all of them in their 50s, would be sad.

by Anonymousreply 37October 30, 2019 2:47 AM

And yet, inevitable, R37.

by Anonymousreply 38October 30, 2019 2:50 AM

I canā€™t shit anymore.

by Anonymousreply 39October 30, 2019 2:50 AM

Reese and Jennifer are the definition of basic bland middle aged white women.

by Anonymousreply 40October 30, 2019 2:51 AM
Oh dear.... 2mill per episode??? Insanity !
Where is the gay content?
Gay content? Doubtful

Maybe I am being paranoid, but ...
the company also pressured creators not to portray China negatively to avoid angering the authorities.)

Apple wants to make this a big hit worldwide including China which isn't so crazy about the gays.

by Anonymousreply 42October 30, 2019 3:08 AM

Why would this be a big hit in China? They donā€™t care about American morning shows.

by Anonymousreply 43October 30, 2019 3:11 AM

The shows can't use the F word unless it's relevant/necessary to the content? lol Their shows are all going to be generic, G-rated garbage.

by Anonymousreply 44October 30, 2019 3:14 AM

It's rotten at this time: 59%.

by Anonymousreply 45October 30, 2019 3:18 AM

The only people I know who watch morning shows are my mother and her friends, and they're all 60+. Not exactly the demo who are going to be streaming Apple TV. This should've gone to a broadcast network, which fits the older demo much better.

by Anonymousreply 46October 30, 2019 3:30 AM

This isn't an actual morning show though R46

by Anonymousreply 47October 30, 2019 3:43 AM

It's about a morning show, though.

by Anonymousreply 48October 30, 2019 3:45 AM

It just boggles my mind that some posters actually think Reese Witherspoon and Jenifer Aniston agreed to do an ACTUAL morning show.

by Anonymousreply 49October 30, 2019 3:51 AM

I still can't get over they paid those 2 golden girls that kind of money. I really hope that streaming channel flops. I am waiting to Disney like alot of people. They are having a deal with Hulu. Then I dropping Netflix.

by Anonymousreply 50October 30, 2019 3:51 AM

Who would actually want to see those two b****** first thing in the morning?

by Anonymousreply 51October 30, 2019 3:53 AM

Not I.

by Anonymousreply 52October 30, 2019 3:55 AM

R42 it's because they want to keep selling iphones in China

by Anonymousreply 53October 30, 2019 4:17 AM

r49 we all know it's not an actual morning show, but a show ABOUT a morning show. The question is why would a young, tech-savvy demographic want to watch that, when they don't watch actual morning shows in the first place.

by Anonymousreply 54October 30, 2019 5:17 AM

Just watch MSNBC and be done with it. Way too many mediocre choices out there. I stick to MSNBC all day everyday.

by Anonymousreply 55October 30, 2019 6:23 AM

And they whole political both sides-ism. Fuck you Apple. One side is full fascist and needs to be utterly destroyed.

by Anonymousreply 56October 30, 2019 8:57 AM

Two seasons? Most likely 4 episodes and itā€™s gone.

by Anonymousreply 57October 30, 2019 9:05 AM
Who would actually want to see those two b****** first thing in the morning?

Exactly! I donā€™t want to see Jenā€™s ugly man face every morning to start my day. Iā€™d rather watch Hoda.

by Anonymousreply 58October 30, 2019 9:12 AM

R58 good thing it's not an actual Morning Show, but a sitcom ABOUT a morning show!

by Anonymousreply 59October 30, 2019 9:25 AM

Apple should stay in their lane.

by Anonymousreply 60October 30, 2019 10:36 AM

And Iā€™m cracking up at all the confusion (real or not) about whether itā€™s a real morning show or a behind the scenes depiction of one.

by Anonymousreply 61October 30, 2019 10:41 AM

Served him right, that anal retentive Tim Cook. It cracked me up when some writers complained that Timmie wanted ATV+ programs to be all PG-rated. So coy and so demure.

by Anonymousreply 62October 30, 2019 11:11 AM

I work for Apple...it is indeed a weird company culture that tries to permeate everything. They make great devices but this just looks like "death by committee". Glad to see the negative reactions. Of all their shows. They need to let the creatives create.

by Anonymousreply 63October 30, 2019 11:44 AM

There are [bold]10[bold] episodes of this?!? So they made 20 million for this. Unbelievable. I don't know how these things work - It the show bombs and they don't do a second season do they still get paid? Maybe they already filmed both seasons?

by Anonymousreply 64October 30, 2019 12:15 PM

[/bold] Did I screw that up? Mr. Fancy Pants.

by Anonymousreply 65October 30, 2019 12:16 PM

by Anonymousreply 66October 30, 2019 12:40 PM

Why the fuck would apple start a morning show on a fucking streaming service?

What the fuck?

A morning show on a streaming service? Really?

What the hell is going on?

So Jennifer and reese are both tv news anchors now?

Goodness gracious.

by Anonymousreply 67October 30, 2019 12:55 PM

Who in the fuck would want to watch these two basic, over-ego-inflated cunts pontificate. Hard pass.

by Anonymousreply 68October 30, 2019 12:59 PM

Jennifer Aniston just acts like herself in everything. And she's definitely not movie star material either.

She seems nice, but she's definitely not an actress.

by Anonymousreply 72October 30, 2019 2:37 PM
It the show bombs and they don't do a second season do they still get paid? Maybe they already filmed both seasons?

They probably have pay or play contracts meaning they will get paid even if they don't go ahead with a second season.

by Anonymousreply 73October 30, 2019 2:43 PM

I wonder if Apple TV will be like Netflix and not release viewership numbers.

A show about a GMA-style morning show is so outdated in 2019.

by Anonymousreply 74October 30, 2019 3:12 PM
They make great devices but this just looks like "death by committee".

Death By Committee is a show Iā€™d watch. If they were smart theyā€™d salvage what theyā€™ve already wasted money on by ā€˜going metaā€™ about a mega corporation that tries its hand at entertainment content and fails miserably: the in-fighting, finger-pointing, backstabbing, spinning.

The kids LOVE meta, and laughing at a dinosaur like morning tv stuck in the tar pit would make them feel superior - something they also LOVE.

by Anonymousreply 75October 30, 2019 3:29 PM

Didnā€™t Reese say she was treated poorly when playing sisters with Jen on Friends?

I seem to remember reading about that here.

by Anonymousreply 81October 30, 2019 5:43 PM

i Just canā€™t see appleā€™s streaming service catching on. Thereā€™s just too much as it is.

by Anonymousreply 82October 30, 2019 5:56 PM

r82 it will all sort itself out. We're at peak streaming right now, but we'll see how the market responds.

by Anonymousreply 83October 30, 2019 5:57 PM

In all honesty I think they are just biding their time until they can acquire a preexisting entertainment unit with a library, most likely CBS.

by Anonymousreply 84October 30, 2019 6:06 PM

Just curious, Is anybody on DL planning on getting Apple's streaming channel??

by Anonymousreply 85October 31, 2019 3:52 AM

I took a look at the channel: there's next to no free content. There are a number of 99 cent rentals for older movies, but overall, it just seems like a giant pay-as-you-go money machine for them.

I don't really get why I would rent recent releases from Apple Plus when these movies are available elsewhere. And as discussed upthread, their original series do not sound appealing.

Pass.

by Anonymousreply 86October 31, 2019 4:00 AM

Thank you for letting me know R73. How nice you are! I just can't believe it. 40 Million for doing crappy work many (most?) won't even see. My mind is boggled I tell ya, completely boggled.

by Anonymousreply 87October 31, 2019 5:00 AM
Is it on every morning or just once a week?

I think itā€™s only once a week which I think is a mistake. You canā€™t build a following that way.

by Anonymousreply 88October 31, 2019 5:11 AM

They will have a Friends reunion special next week! It makes a good drinking game too! We take a drink whenever Reese finds a "clever" way to hide her man-chin.

by Anonymousreply 89October 31, 2019 5:18 AM

Who is Tim Cook?

by Anonymousreply 90October 31, 2019 5:45 AM

I didn't realize that they were releasing episodes once per week, I thought it was going to be like Netflix. So it's a streaming service that's trying to operate like a network? Fail.

by Anonymousreply 91October 31, 2019 6:26 AM

I thought Apple customers can watch these crappy programs for free? No?

by Anonymousreply 92October 31, 2019 6:28 AM

Nah, I'm not going to get it, R85. It seems kind of pointless, especially with all the other stuff out there. I'm already with Netflix, have Amazon Prime, and have basic Hulu for free with my phone. As for Disney, I'm really not interested in that either.

by Anonymousreply 93October 31, 2019 6:43 AM

Apple is releasing the first 3 episodes on Nov. 1, and then once a week.

I think the story set up feels rather sad. Two aging beauties going at each other, because high profile jobs for aging women are so scarce in a world run by straight, white men. Plus there is the high profiel movie coming out about Fox News starring Charlize Theron, Margot Robbie, and Nicole Kidman with John Lithgow as Aisles

by Anonymousreply 97October 31, 2019 9:29 AM

Anniston has been on every damned talk show for this. I must admit she looks good but she seems jittery in paradoxical way that heavy pot users can be. Though obviously very fit, physically. The clips they show are all without interest. I don't know why she deserves something better than this but I agree that she does. Obviously she took the huge salary and was probably disappointed when she realized she was involved in shit product. But she's a pro and does everything contracted.

Linda Hamilton was on Kimmel (?) and she mentioned that Terminator premier was cancelled due to fire, but there was a small screening. Kimmel asked her if she liked her movie. She deadpanned "It's OK". Very funny. She got pretty as an old lady, I must say.

by Anonymousreply 98October 31, 2019 9:48 AM

As an eldergay a few months shy of the "Big 100," can I send a postcard to The Morning Show to request an on-air birthday greeting from Miss Witherspoon?

I enjoy feeding the birds, making jelly, and visiting with friends and family.

by Anonymousreply 99October 31, 2019 8:49 PM

p.s. My friends tell me I look 75!

by Anonymousreply 100October 31, 2019 8:58 PM

Will the girls get a weatherman like Al Roker on their new morning show?

by Anonymousreply 101October 31, 2019 9:40 PM

Which channel is it on? I hope itā€™s not on in the afternoon. Thatā€™s when I take my nap.

by Anonymousreply 102October 31, 2019 9:56 PM

Apple's a huge fail. You can stream excellent movies with Hoopla and Kanopy with a library card. And every tv series are also at libraries although later released. But who has time to watch all this shit the minute it comes out anyway? And why is everyone in such a hurry to be broke?

by Anonymousreply 103November 1, 2019 4:40 AM

I already subscribe to Hulu (Handmaid's Tale and HBO shows like Game of Thrones, Chernobyl, Veep), YouTube (CobraKai), and Netflix (the Breaking Bad movie, Stranger Things, Wentworth, The Office reruns). What will Apple+ offer that's different from these services?

by Anonymousreply 104November 1, 2019 4:43 AM

Tim Cookā€™s brilliant programming instincts.

by Anonymousreply 105November 1, 2019 9:45 AM

Will they have a regional weather report?

by Anonymousreply 106November 1, 2019 5:41 PM

The buzz around town is Apple is trying to poach Al Roker.

by Anonymousreply 107November 1, 2019 7:50 PM

Has anyone tried watching it?

by Anonymousreply 108November 1, 2019 8:08 PM

I just saw today they are still promoting that show. What's next door to door like Mormons? It's not going to save it.

by Anonymousreply 109November 2, 2019 4:53 AM
I still can't get over they paid those 2 golden girls that kind of money. I really hope that streaming channel flops. I am waiting to Disney like alot of people. They are having a deal with Hulu. Then I dropping Netflix.

That's how you attract name actresses to a show on a streaming service that's brand new and likely won't get them the acclaim they'd want from something more established.

But Apple is DETERMINED. Giving away a free year to anyone with an Apple TV and new buyers of the iPhone will make sure it gets viewers.

Hell Disney+ is doing the same stunt for some Verizon users.

HBO Max will be free for certain AT&T users for a year.

I actually feel like HBO Max and Disney+ will be successful but after that free year is up Apple TV is going to have problems.

by Anonymousreply 110November 2, 2019 5:03 AM

How is HBO Max different than HBO Go and HBO Now?

by Anonymousreply 111November 2, 2019 5:08 AM

HBO Max will combine some of HBO's programming (The new DUNE series and even Search Party which is moving there), some of DC Universe's programming and comic movies (Like Man of Steel and Doom Patrol the series) and some of Warner Media's library (Friends/Big Bang Theory etc.)

HBO Now is just HBO that doesn't require a cable subscription. (So you pay monthly to get HBO and users will get HBO Max for free but only if you're billed directly through HBO!)

HBO GO is just HBO but for people who have a cable subscription. (So they get it for free to watch On the Go.)

HBO (the normal cable version) will require you to also pay for HBO Max as a separate product.

by Anonymousreply 112November 2, 2019 5:17 AM

That is way too confusing for me. Fuck it.

by Anonymousreply 113November 2, 2019 5:55 AM

I wonder how well Reese and Jennifer get along? Didn't Reese have a falling out with the entire cast of Big Little Lies?

by Anonymousreply 114November 2, 2019 4:43 PM

Reese approached Jennifer for the part, so I assume she likes her. Reese produced this show.

by Anonymousreply 115November 2, 2019 4:46 PM

I watched three of them today and I kind of liked it. Sue me

by Anonymousreply 116November 3, 2019 4:47 AM

I thought or was great. They need to work out the kinks, but pretty good

by Anonymousreply 117November 3, 2019 7:38 AM

The thing that struck me is Reese is supposed to be some fresh new young thing but she looks the same age as Aniston

by Anonymousreply 118November 3, 2019 8:51 AM

They're not that far apart in age.

by Anonymousreply 119November 3, 2019 12:22 PM

Apple should just stick to making decent technology. When they try anything else itā€™s like someoneā€™s embarrassing dad. Just like with the U2 nonsense.

by Anonymousreply 120November 3, 2019 1:16 PM

What guests have they had on the show ? Is it filmed in NY?

by Anonymousreply 121November 3, 2019 1:34 PM

Apple clearly isn't going for a younger audience with a show about a morning show starring two middle-aged Frau Favorites. This is definitely for the 35 and over crowd.

by Anonymousreply 122November 3, 2019 1:41 PM

I appreciate them willing to show the story from both sides - essentially both sides of #metoo culture and some of its ridiculous.

Also, if you look closely you can tell they have done some major airbrush work on all Reeseā€™s closeups under the eyes to make her appear younger.

I donā€™t care - I just like it. Itā€™s pretty clear what the real life inspiration was as well...

by Anonymousreply 123November 3, 2019 1:52 PM

Can someone please tell me what time the show is on in the morning? Do they discuss politics? Any famous celebs yet?

by Anonymousreply 124November 3, 2019 2:14 PM

The best thing Apple could do is wait til the ViacomCBS merger closes next month, and then buy CBS, Showtime and Nickelodeon. They will probably have to ludicrously overpay.

by Anonymousreply 125November 3, 2019 2:17 PM

r124 you're not the least bit funny.

r125 there is probably a longer game for Apple here, they'll use this Apple TV service to leverage something else.

by Anonymousreply 129November 3, 2019 2:30 PM

I just got a fancy new smart phone and it is so complicated that I have to turn it off in meetings because I cannot figure out how to mute the ringer. But I couldnā€™t even turn it off and on at first. I feel like I need a class to operate this thing. And itā€™s so heavy I might need a back brace.

Maybe I will find out how to get the free tv apps in about 6 months.

by Anonymousreply 130November 3, 2019 2:36 PM

Watching the first episode now. It seems much more concerned with how itā€™s shot rather than the story itā€™s actually shooting.

by Anonymousreply 131November 3, 2019 2:38 PM

Some of the writing on this is really coarse.

by Anonymousreply 132November 3, 2019 5:59 PM

There was a morning show on FOX a long time ago before they became shitheads. It was a huge living room kitchen set and people would breeze in and out. It was fantastic. They need to copy THAT.

by Anonymousreply 133November 3, 2019 7:04 PM

What time is it on in the morning?

by Anonymousreply 134November 3, 2019 7:06 PM

This is a very good show. I don't know why I listened to the bitches on here and obsolete reviewers who don't have effect on ratings anymore. It's a hit and everybody with an Apple device is watching.

by Anonymousreply 135November 4, 2019 8:35 AM
The thing that struck me is Reese is supposed to be some fresh new young thing but she looks the same age as Aniston

No she's not. Her age is actually an important part of the story, meaning you, like many of the bandwagon-hating queens here, haven't watched it. The show is good and it will be discussed here every week because it's the kind of thing the gays love, I guarantee you that.

by Anonymousreply 136November 4, 2019 10:59 AM

What makes these streaming platforms think they know anything about making movies or TV shows? They need to learn to just stick to showing movies and shows that are already filmed.

by Anonymousreply 137November 4, 2019 11:10 AM

R136 speaks the truth

by Anonymousreply 138November 5, 2019 2:56 AM

I'm starting to think the initial bad reviews were paid hitjobs from Apple's rivals. Jen, Reese, Carell, Crudup and Duplass are all terrific.

by Anonymousreply 139November 5, 2019 10:50 AM

IMDB rating up to 8.2

by Anonymousreply 140November 5, 2019 10:55 AM

Maybe they are getting better guests than the first week.

These type of shows take time to settle in with morning viewers.

by Anonymousreply 141November 5, 2019 10:58 AM

Yes r141, what time is it on? Whoā€™s on today?

by Anonymousreply 142November 5, 2019 11:00 AM

I wanted to like this, but how can you have a "Morning Show" that isn't even on every morning?!? I'm going back to Fox & Friends where at least they show up at work like normal hard-working Americans. šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡øā™„ļøā˜€ļø

by Anonymousreply 143November 5, 2019 11:01 AM

I liked it. I thought Reese was really good. And in the first episode she says she has been doing this for 15 years which puts her in a believable late 30's range which is what she is playing. I kind of like that they aren't really playing the "age" card, they like her because Alex is phoning it in and Reese represents change.

by Anonymousreply 144November 5, 2019 3:43 PM
I'm starting to think the initial bad reviews were paid hitjobs from Apple's rivals. Jen, Reese, Carell, Crudup and Duplass are all terrific.

No one was complaining about the acting, they were complaining about the writing.

It's not surprising that some casual TV viewers have less discerning taste than professional critics.

by Anonymousreply 145November 5, 2019 3:48 PM

Professional critics are going the way of the dinosaur. The show's a hit.

by Anonymousreply 146November 6, 2019 11:03 AM

And how would you know itā€™s a hit? Streaming sites donā€™t release ratings.

by Anonymousreply 147November 6, 2019 11:07 AM

Is it on this morning ?

by Anonymousreply 148November 6, 2019 11:26 AM

OMG u guys, Reese broke out in tears live on air when reporting on the deaths of those Mormons in Mexico! My heart went out.

The power of live television!

by Anonymousreply 149November 6, 2019 12:49 PM

Because they like it r147, therefore they've decided it's a hit. Their level of personal attachment to this show is...interesting.

by Anonymousreply 150November 6, 2019 12:58 PM

The show is buzzing r150, everybody's talking about it. it is not a fop.

by Anonymousreply 151November 6, 2019 4:32 PM

Youā€™re a fop.

by Anonymousreply 152November 6, 2019 4:34 PM

In three episodes theyā€™ve really stretched out the premise. Hard to see what this is going to be over two seasons. Theyā€™ve started with the heft of #metoo but where does it go from there? Theyā€™ll be arguing about who ate my lunch in the staff fridge before long.

by Anonymousreply 153November 7, 2019 10:56 AM

There is actually plenty of ground to cover.

All the rivalries between the other reporters on the show like the gay Black anchor who thought he was going to get the job of being Aniston's co host but was overlooked for them giving Reese's character Bradley the part.

Other inter office relationships that are a HR problem and if exposed will bring the network even more heat than they are dealing with now.

The All About Eve shit that is brewing between Reese's and Aniston's characters and the slimy fucker Billy Crudup is portraying that is loving watching Aniston's character squirm because he wants to get rid of her. He and Aniston's character hate each other.

And the secret that Aniston's character Alex is keeping about her accused former partner Mitch that if exposed would ruin her credibility and end her career.

Yeah, nothing to see here.

by Anonymousreply 154November 9, 2019 2:40 PM

fuk them tired bitches. u couldn't pay me to watch their old asses......gawd!!!!

by Anonymousreply 155November 9, 2019 3:07 PM

They'll definitely feature at the Emmys next year.

by Anonymousreply 156November 9, 2019 4:14 PM

I bailed halfway through the second episode. The writingā€™s bad. I get the impression that this show was cobbled together via committee as opposed to being anyoneā€™s real vision. Shame really. x

by Anonymousreply 157November 9, 2019 4:36 PM

How has this discussion missed out on this wonderfully bitchy interview in The Guardian (Reese comes out particularly badly - badly enough it's made me hate her a little)?

by Anonymousreply 161November 9, 2019 10:18 PM

Bump

by Anonymousreply 162November 10, 2019 5:09 AM

I loved the first two episodes (this was the Reese I wanted to see in Big Little Lies 2 but didn't get) and Aniston is great. My favorite scene so far is Witherspoon chewing Mark Duplass a new asshole in episode 2. That was really funny.

It might not be as great as it wants to be, but it's not horrible by any stretch.

by Anonymousreply 163November 10, 2019 7:06 AM

How far can they take the Carrell character? Matt Lauer is gone forever never to be seen or heard from again. And if he had a moral clause with NBC like the Carrell character he may end up broke.

by Anonymousreply 164November 10, 2019 7:17 AM

I think Apple POZ is dead in the water if this is the best they have to offer.

by Anonymousreply 165November 10, 2019 9:51 AM

I guess itā€™s not the best just the first.

by Anonymousreply 166November 10, 2019 10:44 AM

Carell's character is more Matt Lauer than Charlie Rose.

by Anonymousreply 167November 10, 2019 11:26 AM

Charlie Rose, on his show at least, was ALWAYS a terrible flirt, like a guy at a dinner party angling not to go home alone. I thought that was his charm but I never thought he would actually disrespect women, in the workplace or otherwise.

Still, I think Charlie wouldā€™ve been an incredibly sensual lover, if one willingly submitted to his charms. He looks like somebody who knew how to just feast on a pussy.

by Anonymousreply 168November 10, 2019 1:26 PM

So far I love the show. Carell was great in the scene with Aniston (you left me alone with these wolves!) and in his scene with Short showcasing the supposed contrast of their #metoo stories.

However the opening credits already annoy me. And it's already getting tedious of Bradley going off script and causing a scandal (that surprisingly turns out well for her and the show) and Alex getting anry and frustrated that Bradley outshines and outmaneuvers her. Though if Alex had listened to her husband and quit there'd be no show.

What's up with Alex's daughter? At first she seems rather detached from her mother's drama and yet there are occasions where she freaks out (like calling her dad to check on Alex when she was gone from home to meet Mitch in secret / when they drove back home after the Award event).

[bold]The Morning Showā€™ Director Blames ā€˜Apple Hatersā€™ for Tepid Reviews[/bold]
ā€œI just felt there were a lot of Apple haters and wanting Apple to fail,ā€ Leder said on Tuesday during the Code Conference in Hollywood. ā€œThe reviews very much felt like an attack on Apple.ā€

Okay, sure. I dropped the show after five episodes, as much as I enjoy Jen and Reese. It's a badly written show and features some of the weirdest casting decisions ever - I can't concentrate on the story because I kept seeing every C-lister under the sun and I start thinking about their past shows. I can't convey how distracting that is.

I mean he isn't wrong in the sense that people were very skeptical of Apple TV since it was first announced, there was a lot of "why the fuck is apple even doing this when they don't have any content library?!"

But it's also a thoroughly meh show, which meh shows are not something that can launch a new platform.

by Anonymousreply 175November 20, 2019 2:09 AM

Is this the Julian Moriss DL is so obsessed with? I've never seen him in anything before this show. Such a charisma void with saggy skin and flat mumbled delivery. That black waiter outshone him and he was on the screen for all of three seconds. Definitely wasn't impressed by this English export.

But I did love how Reese used him basically as a fleshlight. That was fun, though of course there was no chemistry to be seen.

most over rated tv person of the last century..

by Anonymousreply 178November 20, 2019 10:57 AM

Itā€™s nowhere near as bad as people are saying.

by Anonymousreply 179November 20, 2019 10:58 AM

I agree R179. It feels pretty relevant to me, and Iā€™m enjoying the expense and glossiness. It can get a little queasy with Carrellā€™s character, and I donā€™t really care about him or his story, and theyā€™d best avoid any redemption arc. Iā€™m enjoying Reese and even Aniston and her extremely strange lisp from her ā€œdental work.ā€ Iā€™m not sure why the knives were out for this show, but itā€™s fine. A little messy and a little confused with its tone, but fine.

by Anonymousreply 180November 20, 2019 12:22 PM
Iā€™m not sure why the knives were out for this show, but itā€™s fine.

Because this show has to launch an entire platform, it is supposed to justify the existence of Apple TV.

This isn't just a random show with no expectations placed on it. "Fine" is a miss.

by Anonymousreply 181November 20, 2019 12:29 PM

I mustā€™ve missed this, R176. I probably stopped watching. Did they follow on from the bar?

by Anonymousreply 182November 21, 2019 4:34 AM

I like Jennifer Anniston..does that make me a Frau? I just find her likeable

by Anonymousreply 183November 21, 2019 10:11 PM

Am I watching the same show as the rest of you? I think its extremely well done. The production values are high and Aniston is doing some of the best work of her career. It's kind of everything The Newsroom hoped it would be. Im in.

by Anonymousreply 184November 23, 2019 9:18 PM

It's just Apple backlash...the industry doesn't like a carpetbagger.

by Anonymousreply 185November 23, 2019 9:37 PM

Whatā€™s a carpetbagger? Lesbian?

by Anonymousreply 186November 25, 2019 9:01 AM

Reese does a better job than Aniston, but her Southern/then not change in accent in the same scene is annoying.

Aniston is not bad, but I've never warmed to her as an actor or a personality. She's just always Rachel Green, except older and much less fun.

Steve Carell deserves better.

Billy Crudup is my favorite because he's a shit-stirrer on the show

Jack Davenport deserves better

Bel Powley is a hoot

I actually kinda hate this show and keep forgetting it's on until daysssss later.

Trying to make the audience feel for the white man in power who abused his position feels so much anti-MeToo and total bullshit, and a case of "TOO FUCKING SOON!" but it's only 10% of why I hate it. 15% is dislike for the actors, 75% hate for the writing and really, snoozefest story.

Forgettable show.

by Anonymousreply 187November 25, 2019 9:32 AM

worst new show of the year....

ha ha Anniston u skunk

by Anonymousreply 188November 25, 2019 10:02 AM

I like it because it's such a great social commentary on how men (try to) pit women (and minorities) against each other and exploit their insecurities, vulnerabilities and weaknesses.

by Anonymousreply 189November 25, 2019 12:16 PM

I saw the episode Julian Morris was in.

Apple haters? You wish! I have never owned any computer that wasnā€™t made by Apple, and Iā€™m still not going to watch this show.

[italic]Dead to Me[/italic] is fabulous though. Even my mother watches it. My sister insists it isnā€™t a sitcom ... I laughed out loud so many times, you could have fooled me.

by Anonymousreply 192November 30, 2019 12:40 PM

Any of you who like a good soap or a good drama are missing out of you haven't been watching this show. I did seem shaky the first couple of episodes but this one is shaping up to be an intriguing drama with a turn at the end of every episode.

Highly recommend you give it a try and stick with it at least through ep. 4.

by Anonymousreply 193December 1, 2019 2:13 AM

I'm also giving Servant - which is kind of deliciously weird - and For All Mankind - which is kind of dull but decent - a chance. Any other viewers?

by Anonymousreply 194December 3, 2019 11:52 AM

r193 Yes, it's very soapy, which is why I dropped it after episode five. I prefer more prestige-y dramas, though there are plenty of people who will love the soapy tone. Not really many of those around featuring A-listers.

by Anonymousreply 195December 3, 2019 11:58 AM

The Morning Show isn't a prestige show because of the comedy element to it. As a "dramedy" though, it's very high quality.

by Anonymousreply 196December 3, 2019 12:00 PM

@194 I love Servant! Wished there were more episodes.

by Anonymousreply 197December 3, 2019 12:01 PM

I disagree. It's the poorly written stale dialogue, not the comedic element, that disqualifies it from being a prestige show.

by Anonymousreply 198December 3, 2019 12:02 PM

I haven't seen it but it looked entertaining enough in a not very smart sort of way. Now I guess why bother? These streaming ventures... each has a one or two or maybe more really high quality products and the rest is junk. I don't have to stream you. I only have so much money to waste.

I wish they'd figure out a way to iTunes everything on everybody, so we could really pick and choose. I have Netflix (a shadow of its former self) and Apple TV (though that doesn't seem to en entitle me to any particular access on whatever Apple Streaming is.) It's all I'm willing to gamble on. They'll all wind up as niche brands, I reckon. Depends who's got the deepest pockets to become the giant with most of the good stuff.

There will be mergers and acquisitions.

by Anonymousreply 199December 3, 2019 12:09 PM

Has the show been cancelled yet?

by Anonymousreply 200December 4, 2019 12:49 AM

Nope renewed for a second season.

by Anonymousreply 201December 5, 2019 7:21 PM

How bad does a show have to be to not get a second season? Who does this untalented bitch have incriminating pictures of?

by Anonymousreply 202December 5, 2019 7:31 PM

It was greenlit for 2 seasons rigtht from the start. Of course, after these two season the show has a way out of getting cancelled by claiming that the leads are way too busy with other projects to return.

by Anonymousreply 203December 5, 2019 7:35 PM

R199, agreed. Mergers & acquisitions are likely to go down. However, this appears to be a somewhat complex landscape at the moment, because all streaming services are buoying for content that sets them up above the rest, and therefore, lots of bad content seems to have been acquired by and developed, thereby, making each brand & their individual platforms a little less attractive to those with deep pockets. Itā€™s almost like witnessing a race to the bottom, in order for the runners to end up on top. Not sure if that makes sense, because admittedly, I only have a vague concept of these platforms, and their valuation variables.

Anyhow, itā€™s just too much. Bombardment of average content isnā€™t motivating me to sign up for yet another streaming service, where I invest time in order to evaluate whether I want to invest even more time, watching yet another series that will likely be mediocre, at best. Most people havenā€™t the time to do that, even with great content on offer as a norm.

by Anonymousreply 204December 5, 2019 7:57 PM

This show for old white people. Before streaming, it would have been on CBS (Completely Basic Shit).

by Anonymousreply 205December 6, 2019 4:48 AM

I just watched the first episode of this and Mrs. Maisel and I am going to keep watching this

by Anonymousreply 206December 14, 2019 9:02 AM

Just finished the 9th episode and I love the series. Very entertaining, and it shows how nothing is black and white, everything is that confusing shade of gray. Are you complicit if you knew but said nothing? Is losing your career worth being morally and ethically correct? Aniston is excellent, as is Crudup and Gay Harden.

In the 90s I worked for KTRK-13 and KPRC-2 in Houston, and I saw everything in this show go on but on a much smaller scale of course.

I don't get the haters.

by Anonymousreply 207December 15, 2019 1:32 AM

R207, that is a bullshit message and that fucking homewrecker is a terrible, terrible actress.

If you donā€™t understand the haters, then you have no concept of how irritating it is to see untalented str8 white gentile cunts put on a fucking pedestal at the expense of gay men, lesbians, Jews, and people of color who can act. Make it fucking STOP! Boycott this no-talent ho-bag and her emotionally false garbage. You do not know any people who resemble these cardboard characters in any way, shape, or form.

Some things very much are black and white, and one of them is the irrefutable fact that that no-talent whore slept her way to the top. She canā€™t act, she canā€™t dance, she canā€™t sing, and any man who wastes their time on her instead of another man is an idiot.

by Anonymousreply 208December 15, 2019 6:05 PM
Itā€™s nowhere near as bad as people are saying.

Itā€™s worse, and that rotten, untalented, flabby-thighed bleached blond skank is why. Stop casting her.

by Anonymousreply 209December 15, 2019 6:07 PM

I am beginning to live Billy Crudup's character and I felt bad for Mark Duplass at the end of episode 9. Steve Carell I find so unlikable.

by Anonymousreply 210December 16, 2019 2:19 PM

What is r208 talking about?

Both Aniston and Reese make this project happen, so it's off base ranting about them getting roles OVER other women when they made this project happen so THEY could have jobs.

by Anonymousreply 211December 16, 2019 2:25 PM

I enjoy it but it feels a little bit like an HBO series 2005. There is so much good content out there. Its good not great.

by Anonymousreply 212December 16, 2019 5:38 PM

Why is Jennifer keep getting nominated left and right ? Is she really that good here? Reese getting less accolades.

by Anonymousreply 213December 16, 2019 6:20 PM

To me Jennifer is better than Reese in it. Maybe it's Reese's bad wig that makes me dislike her character. ;)

I am really enjoying this and can't wait until episode 10

by Anonymousreply 214December 17, 2019 4:03 AM

Who is r209 talking about? I am a little afraid to ask

by Anonymousreply 215December 17, 2019 4:04 AM

Seeing Jack Davenport makes me miss Swingtown (RIP gone too soon)

by Anonymousreply 216December 17, 2019 4:06 AM

I think the flashback episode is where it really got interesting, though I don't want that much Carell in every episode.

by Anonymousreply 217December 17, 2019 4:10 AM

R214 proves not only is Jen an untalented cunt, but that her fans (read: enablers) are shallow.

Sheā€™s everything wrong with Str8 white America.

by Anonymousreply 218December 17, 2019 11:30 AM

The Aniston hater needs medical intervention. Stat. Calm down nutbag. Sheā€™s fine. Harmless. You attacking her is exactly what the show is about.

by Anonymousreply 224December 17, 2019 3:10 PM

Boy, then anti-Aniston troll is actually somewhat scary.

Who on Godā€™s green earth, has the ability to hate this chick so much, other than perhaps her now deceased mother?

Aniston has ALWAYS been oatmeal for the masses, which is precisely why sheā€™s still working.

She not controversial, she, Huvane, & CAA, have expertly milked the living shit out of the whole triangle nonsense, and the biggest Hollywood sin: sheā€™s now officially, OLD.

Why this women is being targeted by nutjobs like this here troll, is bewildering, because honestly, why would anyone bother?

If this troll is being real, I hope it gets the much needed psychiatric treatment and attention itā€™s obviously in dire need of.

by Anonymousreply 225December 17, 2019 3:14 PM

And sure, now you enable her by projecting her personality problems onto those who can see what a no talent skank she is, always has been, and always will be. What was the point of streaming media if theyā€™re just going to show us the same crap as main stream network television that we wanted to get away from in the first place?

by Anonymousreply 226December 17, 2019 3:16 PM

The trolls are the people who keep promoting the worthless crap she is in. Stop it. Nobody cares about this no talent bitch. She is over.

And oatmeal isnā€™t actual food either.

by Anonymousreply 227December 17, 2019 3:17 PM

I take it the Aniston hater is an incel who was rejected by her.

by Anonymousreply 228December 17, 2019 3:18 PM

I donā€™t like Candace Cameron either for the same reasons. I wish she was going to jail along with her costar. Crap is crap no matter which side of the aisle it comes out of.

by Anonymousreply 229December 17, 2019 3:18 PM

You heterosexual pigs are all alike. No, I was not rejected by her. Any man who wastes time with her over any other man is an idiot and a loser. But you want receipts for the hate speech and threats I have received simply for criticizing her and her uniformly shitty body of work? That, to me, suggest that the only reason she is not in the obscurity she belongs in by now is because she has connections to organized crime.

by Anonymousreply 230December 17, 2019 3:21 PM

I hate any untalented white person who gets ahead over a person of both color and talent. Iā€™m just glad the year of #OscarsSoWhite, they werenā€™t that white!

by Anonymousreply 231December 17, 2019 3:23 PM

Being obsessed with hating an actress isn't normal, r230. We get it you hate Aniston. Ylu say it once or twice and move on, but you've gone way beyond that to the point it's a sickness.

If she didn't kill your puppy or steal your boyfriend then you're an incel. Your reactions aren't normal for someone who just hates bad acting.

Billy Crudup looks ROUGH for his age. Maybe because he is so thin it makes his face gaunt?

by Anonymousreply 240December 17, 2019 7:05 PM

It was originally marketed as a comedy, but they had to change it to a drama because no one laughed.

by Anonymousreply 241December 17, 2019 7:34 PM

That's not true R241

by Anonymousreply 242December 17, 2019 8:00 PM

Just saw episode 10 and it is GOOD.

I think if critics could have seen more than 3 episodes their opinions would have been different.

by Anonymousreply 243December 20, 2019 6:33 AM

Swingtown was indeed fabulous, R216. Textbook "brilliant but canceled."

They should reboot the concept somewhere with 30-something actors.

Like maybe on Apple+, instead of this garbage show.

by Anonymousreply 244December 20, 2019 6:52 AM

Crudup does look awful on the show. Gaunt af.

Maybe you do get the face you deserve.

by Anonymousreply 245December 20, 2019 6:55 AM

Episode 10 we find out who leaked the info about Mitch to the NY Times. I won't spoil it

by Anonymousreply 246December 20, 2019 6:57 AM

Swingtown was originally created for HBO, and it should have been on HBO. CBS grabbed it when HBO passed and it was offered to Showtime.

Such a waste of cute guys who had signed up to do nudity: Grant Show, Michael Rady and Jack Davenport.

If it had been proposed as a cable show a year later ā€” after Mad Men had become a phenomenon ā€” it would have been a long-running hit.

by Anonymousreply 247December 20, 2019 7:14 AM

Well, personally, I thought the last episode was great. The best of the season and I'm now excited about the next season.

by Anonymousreply 248December 21, 2019 8:53 PM

Do people here not like it because two females are the leads? Or maybe they didn't get far enough into it? I thought it got better as it went along and by the 8th episode I was really anxious to find out what happened next.

by Anonymousreply 249December 23, 2019 7:09 AM

I just finished the season. Here are my thoughts on this show:

1. It's a very good show, with the minor casting exception of Reese Witherspoon, whom I ordinarily love, but not in this.

2. I would rather see Jennifer Aniston's character paired off with Mark Duplass, rather than Billy Crudup, but it seems they are headed in the latter direction.

3. Billy Crudup is very sexy in this show, even if he does look gaunt (I don't think he does).

4. If Steve Carell is Matt Lauer, does that mean Jennifer Aniston is Savannah Guthrie? And wouldn't that make Reese Hoda Kotbe?

5. This show has done what it needed to do. This show does not need to "launch a platform" as some poster upthread stated. The platform has already been launched in the form of the billions of phones, tablets, and streaming devices that Apple has sold over the past few years. All Apple needed to do with this show and the others in its stable is convince 10% of its device owners to subscribe at $4.99, and in order to do that, all this show needs to do is *not* look cheap. And it looks like a very expensive show. I totally subscribed.

The last three episodes really were an improvement. Iā€™m glad I returned to the series after taking a break. Great concept and subject matter. More impressive than the Russel Crowe series about Roger Ailes.

And the final scene is a home-run. They really delivered, especially Aniston. Best work of her career. It was a tricky role which required a big star personality and she pulled it off. Perfectly cast. I hope she wins the Globe and SAG next month.

by Anonymousreply 251December 23, 2019 11:30 AM

Oh god, donā€™t wake up the violent anti-Aniston troll R251!!!

by Anonymousreply 252December 26, 2019 12:45 PM

Aniston and Reese were perfectly cast. Everyone else... yikes.

Reese's accent comes and goes. Still haven't managed to watch past the fifth episode. Maybe I'll return to it one of these days.

by Anonymousreply 253December 26, 2019 12:50 PM

Underwhelming pretend-"intellectual" duo produce a cringe-worthy product. It's hard to conceive how it could have gone wrong.

by Anonymousreply 254December 26, 2019 12:59 PM

Jennifer Aniston knows how to fucking negotiate. Sheā€™s getting $2 million per episode of some lame streaming series.

by Anonymousreply 255December 26, 2019 1:11 PM

I'm on episode 3 and quite enjoying it. Am I detecting some sexual tension with Reese and Billy Crudup's character?

Donā€™t look now but that is exact what Apple TV+ is.

R252 Haha, yeah. I was honest with my comments, but the anti-JenAn troll can go suck it. They are better off fueling their negative energy into something they actually like.

R253 I did notice that Witherspoon slipped in and out of her accent. But, it worked for me. It may have also been intentional. Bradley sees herself as a vessel for truth and wants to expose the establishment from where it has weaknesses. She wants to come across as someone who is informed and that people should listen to. She worked hard to get rid of her accent (I don't think she comes from her character's state, but uses her own accent anyhow), because she knows it was essential in order to be taken seriously. But, she is human, and when we are more in the moment and passionate, our true colours show and stuff like accents slipping are more prone to happen. Charlize Theron on NPR shared this in regards to her observations of Megyn Kelly. I don't remember which times this happens and if it matches up with Witherspoon, but I do know on other projects, Witherspoon can hold an accent (at least her own gentrified accent) consistently. Whatever the explanation, it worked for me.

by Anonymousreply 259December 26, 2019 7:56 PM

I feel like Iā€™ve been watching this first episode for five hours. How is this show so fucking boring?

by Anonymousreply 260January 5, 2020 3:48 AM

The theme song is ten minutes alone.

by Anonymousreply 261January 5, 2020 6:00 PM

I hate the theme song

by Anonymousreply 262January 6, 2020 4:21 AM

Just finished it.

It's good, not great, there was a bit of a scandal when an insider told the NYT (?) that Apple's shows were "expensive NBC" but this seems to prove it out and I have no problem with that--sometimes you want a break from complicated antiheroes and "WTF just happened" scenes. But like other shows in its genre it relies heavily on a monologue or conversation to spell out things they could have shown you (e.g., Alex's daughter explaining the family dynamic in the pizza scene.)

Cruddup is the standout, his quasi-sociopath is great. Duplass is good too as a conflict-hating guy who wound up in a position he never wanted where his job is mostly to mollify.

Carrell is just playing another version of Michael Scott, which he does well, but it still feels like Dunder MIfflin.

Witherspoon is good though they're not really sure who her character is and that makes it tough for her.

Aniston was also good but not great, I wish we had more backstory on her character.

Odd choice: they gave Carrell and Aniston's characters clearly Jewish names (Mitch Kessler and Alex Levy) but never mentioned it beyond that. Maybe next season.

by Anonymousreply 263January 26, 2020 1:58 PM
sometimes you want a break from complicated antiheroes

Amen to that. I didnā€™t watch Masters of Sex when first aired but am watching now and the character of Doctor Masters ... sometimes I think to myself, why am I watching this?

by Anonymousreply 264January 26, 2020 2:25 PM

How much did they pay to buy the award for the series?

by Anonymousreply 265January 26, 2020 5:57 PM

So I finally watched this and enjoyed it overall.

It got better as the series progressed and like Valerie Cherish. Alex Levy was not the most sympathetic character but you ended up rooting for her. Aniston's scene in her daughter's room reminded me of Kudrow's beef rollatini trailer scene.

Gugu Mbatha Raw and Bell Powley were both excellent and Billy Crudup was great - was the character meant to be gay or just ambiguous? His flirting with Bradley was not threatening and there was no sexual tension between them.

by Anonymousreply 266April 25, 2020 9:29 AM

Iā€™m a little late to the party, but Iā€™ve been stream this all day in between my online window shopping addiction, and I Lā¤ļøVE IT!

FINALLY, a fun show to watch where Aniston kinda shines through and where Reese is having a ball.

Love this.

by Anonymousreply 267May 7, 2020 11:49 PM

I guess it will be a while before season 2 since they'd probably be filming right now for another fall release.

by Anonymousreply 268May 8, 2020 12:49 AM

The Witherspoon character now works for a major network and National morning show in NYC. That is why she lost the accent.

In show business itā€™s known to lose a peculiar accent that will sectionalize you.

by Anonymousreply 269May 9, 2020 4:00 AM

Late to the party, but got a new iPad and free year of Apple TV. I'm actually enjoying it. A bit heavy handed. But don't get the big deal about Nick and the British chick having a relationship. Anywhere I've worked you could date coworkers but had to disclose the relationship so HR could ensure neither was in a subordinate relationship to the other.

by Anonymousreply 270August 31, 2020 12:55 AM

I remember this original post, then....

EVERYBODY LOVES the show!

by Anonymousreply 271August 31, 2020 12:57 AM

No, they donā€™t.

by Anonymousreply 272August 31, 2020 12:57 AM

This wouldā€™ve been an excellent six episode season. The first three and the final three episodes were great. The middle four were a waste of time and just filler.

by Anonymousreply 273August 31, 2020 2:33 PM

They're advertising this series and talking about the ten billion emmys it got. From the ads it looks more like a drama than a half-drama half comedy.

And Jennifer Aniston going for the awards with her "I sacrificed EVERYTHING to get where I am!!!" line, which makes me not want to write it if the writing is so cliched.

by Anonymousreply 274September 11, 2020 3:20 PM

Does Augie have much to do?

by Anonymousreply 275September 11, 2020 3:22 PM

r270 that British girl was just crazy. She fucked her boss, big deal. She says she was forced to do it or naive. Steve Carell's character calls her out and I'm so thankful he did that. Just like Harvey Weinstein, don't tell me you don't know what someone wants when they invite you up to their hotel room. That girl was just stressed and needed a vacation and or a new job. She was seemed more angry that he wasn't trying to turn it into something more. It was just sex. For her efforts she got a huge promotion.

The studio covering it up was an issue. The end scene was sloppy. A steadier hand was needed throughout this show. Cutting to that dude having an ulcer or whatever in the park during their big on-air reveal was so heavy handed and unnecessary.

by Anonymousreply 276September 11, 2020 3:39 PM

r276 I'm sorry I meant the black actress who is British but I think is using an American actress. The other Brit was crazy, but at leat aware and not trying to cause drama over fucking the weather man.
