How Did Kenny Loggins Have a Career?

He was so meh. “Footloose” played on the car radio today and it’s such a cheesy song.

A friend of mine was in a band with him recently - a folk/rock trio -- and she said he is a super nice guy, and he still works very hard. I loved Loggins and Messina in their day, but his solo stuff was always too twee and commercial for my taste.

by Anonymousreply 110/26/2019

He was ALMOST as pretty as —

by Anonymousreply 210/26/2019

His music is a lot more complex and interesting than it needs to be. He’s far from “boring.”

I assume that Loggins haters are fans of Taylor Swift and Beiber.

by Anonymousreply 310/26/2019

He was lucky in that his fluffy solo stuff was a perfect fit for Eighties "party" movies.

by Anonymousreply 410/26/2019

he had good management and went for a commercial career...if he invested well, i imagine he's glad he did.. He can play comfortable venues , draw a crowd and play more varied setlists than just his hits...... having said that, i don't think i'd ever go see him. he did some children's albums, that seems who he is at heart somehow...

by Anonymousreply 510/26/2019

Why did he have a career?

R3 is correct. Danger Zone and Footloose both have about 3 massive hooks. That’s why.

by Anonymousreply 610/26/2019

He had one of the best voices in music for nearly 2 decades and wrote super catchy pop songs.

Go listen to autotune, you fuckhead.

by Anonymousreply 710/26/2019

I love this song.

by Anonymousreply 810/26/2019

He was also a very successful crossover artist; his first solo hit, "This Is It", got heavy airplay on the "Urban Contemporary" radio stations. And "Love Will Follow" is a "smooth jazz" classic that's still being played today.

Perfect music for gyms and dance routines. Energetic and fun. Love him.

by Anonymousreply 1010/26/2019

didn’t hurt he was cute as heck

by Anonymousreply 1110/26/2019

The DJ at The Lost & Found (L&F) in Washington DC was a friend of mine. I did a blind test with him one night playing an extended version of 'Love Will Follow', not telling him who the artist was. I knew if he knew it was Kenny Loggins he'd probably not listen to it and if he did listen would probably reflexively hate it.

He LOVED it. Then I told him who it was singing - he was aghast - and he put "Love Will Follow' not only into his morning music rotation, but often started the night playing it as the first song.

I loved spinning around on the floor in the dark to that song.

by Anonymousreply 1210/26/2019

He needs to leave the plastic surgery alone, but Kenny is still a hell of a singer and performer. OP’s question is stupid.

by Anonymousreply 1310/26/2019

Did you see the thread "Only the best 70s music"? That's how Kenny Loggins had career. Eighty percent of the list is meh.

by Anonymousreply 1410/26/2019

I love "Mr. Night"

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 1510/26/2019

My mom liked him back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 1610/26/2019

He was good in the 70s, both by himself and as part of Loggins and Messina.

But he wrote some terrible shit in the 80s. It's called Making The Mortgage Payments.

by Anonymousreply 1710/26/2019

He got one of those too-tight facelifts, and now looks Asian.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 1810/26/2019

He had a lovely falsetto. "This Is It" was a significant hit on R&B radio, so he established crossover appeal early in his career. I can't explain "Footloose" -- it's awful. Although the very worst song Deniece Williams ever recorded was "Let's Hear It For The Boy" and it is her biggest solo hit (No.1 Pop and R&B) and it's on the same "Footloose" soundtrack.

by Anonymousreply 1910/26/2019

This Is It was great. And he did a song with Steve Perry that was fun, too.

But then there was "Heartlight" and "Heart To Heart" which was some serious schmaltz, and then Footloose (ugh) and his songs for Over the Top and Top Gun (double ugh)

by Anonymousreply 2010/26/2019

I loved the song he did with Michael McDonald and Thundercat.

It's a truly weird video (Thundercat is...well, talented but a bit out there) but the song makes me tear up a little.....

Danger Zone was a piece of shit. It made aviator sunglasses forever stupid-looking.

by Anonymousreply 2210/26/2019

Big hit with Stevie before all the soundtrack stuff.

by Anonymousreply 2610/26/2019

This song didn't suck. Not too much, anyway.

by Anonymousreply 2710/26/2019

He was cute, but not as cute as Michael McDonald.

by Anonymousreply 2810/26/2019

^ Gorgeous.

Kenny was skinny; I could only find one mild erotic shirtless picture.

by Anonymousreply 2910/26/2019

by Anonymousreply 3010/27/2019

For holidays, funerals or just missing someone; this one is a classic with Bob James.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 3110/27/2019

His other Top 10 hit that wasn't Footloose or I'm Alright. God, it's sooo cheesy. Yes I remember when it was released, yeah I'm old but this song still sucks

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 3210/27/2019

Schmaltzy ... but I love it!!!

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 3310/27/2019

Does Kenneth have a weak chin and that's why he has worn a beard professionally for his entire run?

And where's that shirtless shot?

by Anonymousreply 3410/27/2019

That was the one I was waiting for, R23. I had the 45.

by Anonymousreply 3510/27/2019

R35 Me too. I'm sure I played it 100 times, and never flipped it over to play the B side, "Angelique".

by Anonymousreply 3610/27/2019

Anne Murray recorded a few of his songs

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 3710/27/2019

It is much more difficult to have a good song because you wrote it for a movie tie in, and Loggins did a lot of music for movies but you have to judge his entire catalogue of music and he had some great songs, moving and rememberable.

As difficult as it is to do music tied to a movie, anyone else would probably have come up with even more shitty songs than Loggins did. Be thankful they went with Loggins and not someone else.

by Anonymousreply 3810/27/2019

R31, "Celebrate Me Home" is one of my Holiday favorites. There's that lovely falsetto again.

by Anonymousreply 3910/27/2019

I think OP has been irrefutably proven to be a dumb ass.

by Anonymousreply 4010/27/2019

I’ve been listening to him lately after never really having paid attention to him before and he actually has a lot of good songs in his catalog.

by Anonymousreply 4107/31/2020

He made femme mainstream!

by Anonymousreply 4207/31/2020

I love him.. I have every album he’s ever done. Did an aol fan chat with him in the 1990’s, and paid him a compliment. He thanked me by name..

by Anonymousreply 4307/31/2020

R43 Have you seen him in concert? I looked at a few of his live performances on YouTube and he seems to sound really good live.

by Anonymousreply 4407/31/2020

He had a career because he made music that was catchy and he was versatile. I didn’t think I liked his music, but had forgotten how many hits he had that have gotten stuck in my head. I hated “Danger Zone”. You know what’s funny? Kids today know “Footloose”! They know the fucking words to a song that was a hit when I was their age.

by Anonymousreply 4507/31/2020

An essential part of the Yacht Rock line up!

by Anonymousreply 4607/31/2020

For the longest time I always thought he was in that film Longtime Companion

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 4707/31/2020

He has so many great songs that went unnoticed, yet that shitty “Footloose” song is one of his biggest hits.

by Anonymousreply 4807/31/2020

He had/has great hair!

by Anonymousreply 4907/31/2020

I think whatever work he’s has done on his face looks good!

by Anonymousreply 5007/31/2020

Remember, he has a hot son. I think his name is Brodie...or am I thinking of Caitlyn's hot son?

by Anonymousreply 5107/31/2020

R6, Agreed. Danger Zone made Top Gun and boosted military recruiting.

by Anonymousreply 5207/31/2020

Kenny’s son is named Crosby and won some mtv reality music show where he competed with other musical offspring. Then didn’t do anything else and disappeared.

Kenny and Rick Springfield must have the same plastic surgeon.

by Anonymousreply 5307/31/2020

He was handsome.

by Anonymousreply 5407/31/2020

What is Brodie Jenner doing now? I think he's friends with Crosby Loggins.

by Anonymousreply 5507/31/2020

FUN FACT: Kenny is a fan of colonic irrigations and wound up divorcing his wife and marrying his colon therapist, to whom he is still married. When I told a friend this, he replied, "Man, talk about looking for love in all the wrong places!"

by Anonymousreply 5607/31/2020

Lol@ R56!

by Anonymousreply 5707/31/2020

by Anonymousreply 5807/31/2020

My favorite Kennys: Chesney, G, Loggins, and Rogers.

by Anonymousreply 5907/31/2020
FUN FACT: Kenny is a fan of colonic irrigations and wound up divorcing his wife and marrying his colon therapist, to whom he is still married.

He hasn’t been married her for 16 years now. She dumped him in 2004.

by Anonymousreply 6007/31/2020

Who would have thought someone who had a nude wedding would end up divorced?!

by Anonymousreply 6107/31/2020

I love his hairy little body. I'd grab him and fuck him but I'd worry about breaking him.

by Anonymousreply 6207/31/2020

R24 make that four of us. (when I wasn't at the Pier!)

by Anonymousreply 6307/31/2020

One of my exes insisted that KL looked like one of those Japanese Snow monkeys. Can't get that out of my mind whenever I hear his name or music - lol.

by Anonymousreply 6407/31/2020

Shit your ex is right.

by Anonymousreply 6507/31/2020
Kenny is a fan of colonic irrigations

Is he into anal?🤨

by Anonymousreply 6607/31/2020

He presents hole at weddings

by Anonymousreply 6707/31/2020

The correct syntax on DL is, "Why did _____'s Career Go Straight Down the Shitter?"

by Anonymousreply 6808/01/2020

Not a huge fan, but I've always liked the Caddyshack song and the song he did with Stevie Nicks.

by Anonymousreply 6908/01/2020

R70 That picture is from 15 years ago when he did that Rock the Cradle show. He was 25 then. What does he look like now at 40?

by Anonymousreply 7108/01/2020

He was a good fit with his time---the end of the era for the catchy pop tune. His voice was better in duets than in solos. Cute but forgettable. I like his stuff with Jim Messina more than the later songs.

by Anonymousreply 7208/01/2020

It’s like Michael Bolton took his career in the late 80’s/early 90’s.

by Anonymousreply 7308/01/2020

Ugh, R18. If he HAD to have plastic surgery, it should have been on those hideous Doberman Pinscher ears. I have always been distracted by them (and not in a good way).

by Anonymousreply 7408/01/2020

R65 Lol

by Anonymousreply 7508/01/2020

R18 "He got one of those too-tight facelifts, and now looks Asian."

Not quite - according to my ex, he looks like an Asian Snow monkey.

by Anonymousreply 7608/01/2020

R74 Yeah, those ears should have been reshaped decades ago.

by Anonymousreply 7708/01/2020

Wow, R56. I thought you were exaggerating.

by Anonymousreply 7808/01/2020

Some of his eighties songs, especially I’m Alright and Don’t Fight It, are crazy infectious and full of energy.

I've always loved this song, schmaltzy as it is. Love the added verse he did years later too.

Imagine meeting your significant other because they shoved a hose up your ass.

by Anonymousreply 8108/01/2020

I love Nobody's Fool (1988, top 10 hit) from the Caddyshack II soundtrack.

by Anonymousreply 8208/01/2020

I was surprised to just now realize that Danger Zone was produced by Giorgio Moroder. Sounds nothing like his Donna Summer stuff.

by Anonymousreply 8308/01/2020

Loved Loggins and Messina

Hated Kenny Loggins solo

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 8408/01/2020

Kenny Loggins and Rod Stewart competed for songs in the last half of the '80s. "Love Touch" was almost recorded by Kenny before Rod snatched it up. Remember that song is from the film Legal Eagles.

by Anonymousreply 8508/01/2020

Moroder also wrote and produced Take My Breath Away, which won the Oscar.

by Anonymousreply 8608/01/2020

Listen to any of his live work and you'll be convinced he is a god.

by Anonymousreply 8708/02/2020

I just figured something out—I'll bet Kenny wrote [italic]Return to Pooh Corner[/italic] after colonic therapy from his wife!

by Anonymousreply 8808/02/2020

He was very handsome although always a bit too thin. He's one of those straight guys that you would swear is gay.

Everything about him just pings and yet - nope. He lives in Santa Barbara and does a lot of charities and local gigs.

His stuff is hit or miss for me.

by Anonymousreply 8908/02/2020

He co-wrote Whenever I Call You A Friend with Melissa Manchester, but the record company insist she be dumped for the single, so they could get the then very hot Stevie circa 1978, hot off Rumours.

by Anonymousreply 9008/02/2020

Kenny Loggins reminds me of Huey Lewis. Similar careers.

by Anonymousreply 9108/02/2020

Huey Lewis was the nadir of 80s schlock pop. Kenny Loggins at least had a few good songs.

by Anonymousreply 9208/02/2020

Was it already posted?

Did I miss it?

Apologies if this is a repeat.

by Anonymousreply 9308/02/2020

He was so hot back in the day.

by Anonymousreply 9408/02/2020

A lot of those 70s guys were hot but they ruined it with the long hair and beards. Lindsey Buckingham, Don Henley etc. They would've been so much hotter with shorter hair and clean shaven.

by Anonymousreply 9508/02/2020

Has KL ever experimented with man love?

by Anonymousreply 9608/02/2020

He also wrote, 'What a Fool Believes'. I like the DB version to much to enjoy his version.
