Famous openly gay people DLers don't like, and why
And don't say it's just because they're openly gay and famous--that's pretty banal.
Elton John: a social climber and a drama queen and a narcissist
Milo Y: a druggie, and isn't smart: tried to become famous just by being mean and obnoxious
NPH: too thirsty, and no one cares about his magic

Dan Savage, for appointing himself (trashy sex columnist and failed playwright) the Official Spokesperson For All Things LGBTQIA For Life, even though many of his POV are alienating and divisive, eg, to lesbians or gay men who support monogamy. I don't recall ever voting for him.
Even some good ideas like the It Gets Better campaign get fucked up and are transformed into It Get$ Better For Dan $avage.
And even worse, for unleashing Terry Miller, his plastic aging famewhore spouse upon the world.

R10 asks a fair question. Top of mind:
Rachel Maddow, for the most part.
Lily Tomlin.
George Takei.
Martina Navratilova (and if you don't like or know her, you should).
Stephen Sondheim.
Tim Gunn.
Ian McKellan.
Barney Frank.
Tammy Baldwin.

Sam Smith for making watered down, flavorless music that is like a mix of a watered-down Whitney Houston with watered-down Luther Vandrosss, if that makes any sense. Plus, he is non-binary and said he has always "thought like a woman", so 50 points off for him.

Alook Vaid-Menon. Some of the worst poetry I have ever read. Whatever he's writing, it's NOT poetry. And he writes about how people should want to fuck him and how he is constantly objectified. No dude. You objectify yourself. And maybe if you didn't wear dresses and purposely try to wear outlandish clothes, you'd be having sex?

The Bobbsey Twins of today--Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen. A pair of twats who seem to be mean girls underneath their veneer. In the case of Cooper, it's especially disappointing. He used to come off as very professional but his friendship with Cohen has taken him down at least 5 levels.

Why are we supposed to dislike NPH? He’s multi-talented, has been out for years, seems normal, did well on an ensemble comedy that I admittedly never watched, but I never heard a bad word about him. Except on DL.
Andy Cohen, Ellen, Milo, are all terrible people. Sam Smith is an attention whore.

Andy Cohen is a love-to-hate, which is distinctly different from a genuine "don't like" or "hate."
r23 I don't really have an opinion/care about James Charles, but I will say that I once stupidly sat through some extended news interview featuring him and some of the makeup portraits that they showed were stunning--in a way that reminded me more of body art than everyday makeup. I don't know how hard it is to do artistic makeup portraits like they showed, maybe it's not hard at all (I suspect it actually is), but regardless that made me respect him a lot more as an artist than just a mua youtube "star." Also, he's like what, 19?! Give him a break!
I agree with the rest of you though, sam smith is tedious and exhausting, but since he wants to be a woman/non-binary now, he's no longer gay! Amazing how that works, isn't it, you can just identify right out of a sexuality!

Anderson Cooper proves to be hateable. Not only is he friends with that lazy-eyed koala, but he’s so BORING. Every interview he’s in he sits like a lump and posing. He’s utterly devoid of personality. He seems like an uptight, dull, weird pod person.

When people say Elton john is a social climber it defies logic. He's one of the biggest recording artist of all time and perhaps the biggest singer songwriter of the 70s. He can't be a social climber because he made his own legacy. Not liking him is one thing, but people don't know what these phrases and words they be using mean.

Wow,, r46. You really don't understand the way things work in the UK, do you?
Being a self-made man will only take you so far there. It's not like the US where your social position has to do mostly with what you did with your life--in the UK, that's important, but who your family is equally if not more important (and for some people still, that's ALL they care about).

Elton was friends with the royals before Diana. The Queen Mother often visited Elton's home and he hers as they lived close by in Windsor. Elton often played -private concerts for the royal family and was asked to play at Prince Andrew's 21st where he first met Diana before she was married to Prince Charles. Elton used to always keep gin and Dubonnet on hand at his Windsor home as it was The Queen Mothers' favourite drink.

I think one of the reasons Neil Patrick Harris is disliked so much is because he acts so smug all the time. One of the things that put me off him was whenever him being gay was mentioned (and this was way after he came out,) he would always bring up all the women he's been with in the past. And he would do it in a way that would imply he was still in competition with straight men. He comes across as desperate and pathetic, sometimes, and I don't get the impression he's actually comfortable with being gay or at least not as much as he would like us to believe.

I think we need to ease up on NPH. He was a child actor who - despite the odds - made the transition to adult star AND then came out without it affecting his career. He's not overly flashy offstage and hasn't been linked to scandal, and he's likely helped make gay marriage and gay parenting more acceptable to conservatives in mainstream America.

I think NPH gets the same kind of hate Anne Hathaway gets. They both come across like the overeager musical theatre geek from high school, despite the fact that they're actually talented. There was also a time when it seemed like they were in everything and overexposure makes people angry sometimes for no real logical reason.

NPH is a cool guy, I think his haters are just jealous bitches.
As for Elton, YES, he's a massive social climber. Yes, he's a huge self-made success, but he's not content with being a middle-class guy made good, he's also devoted decades becoming chums with the royals and upper-level celebrities. Which I didnt care much about, everyone needs a hobby, until I heard that he's been promising to leave money to the ultra-spoiled children of the rich and famous, as a way of ass-kissing his way even higher up the social scale. I would have liked him if he'd offered to leave his hat collection to the royal ladies or something, but showering unearned wealth on the recipients of massive unearned wealth? For that he can burn in hell.
