Judy Garland for Cream of Wheat

It's a shame they stopped doing them. I hope the two guys didn't have a falling out. I still watch them from time to time for a good laugh.

Omg, OP! Thanks for this, I’m dying! The video at the OP is killing me.
by Anonymous | reply 2 | October 26, 2019 6:16 PM |
I like blue.
by Anonymous | reply 3 | October 26, 2019 6:27 PM |
Those were great imitations of how both of them talked in the 60s--most of the time people do Liza's later way of talking and Judy's earlier way of talking.
by Anonymous | reply 4 | October 26, 2019 6:28 PM |
What did Judy think of her other children? We know she thought Liza was talented and supported her career: was Lorna old enough when her mother died that her mother knew anything about her singing abilities? Was there ever any thought towards Joey becoming an entertainer? He was so young when his mother died.

It made me laugh, but I think it's also going to give me nightmares.

I love you, OP, absolutely love you.

Oh Chortle, don’t stop now, I’m begging you. I’d never heard of the Punchy Players. This right here is the reason I come back to DL over and over again.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | October 26, 2019 9:43 PM |
Ok, R14 - I found this while perusing Punchy Players clips: totally off-topic, but it’s Judy and I found the compilation mesmerizing.
More Punchy Players to follow....

Can you tell? I’ve spent my afternoon procrastinating.
Thanks for encouraging me to do so, R14.
And of course, thanks to OP, once again, for this thoroughly satisfying life tangent.
by Anonymous | reply 37 | October 26, 2019 11:01 PM |
Absorbingly brilliant. Worth procrastinating over.
by Anonymous | reply 38 | October 26, 2019 11:02 PM |
Jeez Louise - what the hell was I thinking??
Thanks to Chris & Jeff - The Punchy Players - for minutes and minutes of entertainment.
by Anonymous | reply 39 | October 26, 2019 11:06 PM |
Thank you, r37. I’ll try spacing out my viewings so I have more to look forward to another day.
I wonder what happened to the OP?
Wherever you are, OP, MWAH.

So did Judy actually do a commercial for Cream of Wheat?
All of this must have happened well before I was born!
by Anonymous | reply 41 | October 26, 2019 11:14 PM |
Go to bed, Joey
by Anonymous | reply 42 | October 26, 2019 11:18 PM |
Ann Miller is hilarious.

[quote]So did Judy actually do a commercial for Cream of Wheat?
Nope. But she did do ads for Blackgama.
by Anonymous | reply 44 | October 26, 2019 11:24 PM |
JUDY WAS A MENTALLY ILL, WASHED-UP HAS BEEN. SHE WAS AN ATTENTION-SEEKING, CHILD-ABUSING, DRUG- ADDICTED NEUROTIC. MOST OF HER PAIN WAS SELF-INDUCED. SHE OVERSUNG AND OVERACTED. SHE IS VASTLY OVERRATED. IF IT WEREN'T FOR THE OLD QUEENS WHO BOW DOWN AT HER ALTAR BECAUSE HER CAMP REPERTOIRE APPEALS TO THEIR FEMININE DISPOSITION AND HER MELODRAMTIC LIFE MIRRORS THEIR OWN PITEOUS EXISTENCE, SHE'D BE LONG FORGOTTEN!
by Anonymous | reply 45 | October 26, 2019 11:34 PM |
Well, thank you for sharing, r45. Does anybody else in the group want to share anything?
by Anonymous | reply 46 | October 26, 2019 11:37 PM |
Well, thank you, R46, I'd like to share that those two queens, Jeff and somebody, are immensely talented at doing the voices, the music and the animation.
They have opened up my eyes to Audrey Hepburn's outrageously mannered intonation. Thank you.
by Anonymous | reply 47 | October 26, 2019 11:40 PM |
I’ve loved their videos for years. That channel went silent years ago. They just disappeared. I hope they didn’t die.
by Anonymous | reply 48 | October 26, 2019 11:41 PM |
I’m glad Chortle and R14 and everybody else likes them as much as I do.
I’ve been imitating Shirley Booth a lot lately ...
by Anonymous | reply 50 | October 29, 2019 5:06 AM |
I sort of assumed they'd died as well.
Ann's "I feel sorry for her" + "It smells worse than Louis B. Mayer after a night of hard drinking" are my faves. Also, the way Ann says Judy ("Juhdy") cracks me up.
by Anonymous | reply 51 | October 29, 2019 5:22 AM |
Is Jeff who voices Julie Andrews, Charlotte Rae and Frances Bavier? Because those imitations are spot-on. Scary, almost.
by Anonymous | reply 52 | October 29, 2019 8:08 AM |
R48 I hope they didn’t die too.
by Anonymous | reply 53 | October 29, 2019 8:26 AM |
Those talent free drag voices again?
by Anonymous | reply 55 | October 29, 2019 10:49 AM |
The Punchy Players deserve a MacArthur Genius Award.
by Anonymous | reply 56 | October 29, 2019 11:43 AM |
"Jeff of Punchy Players" is very "Mary Wilson of The Supremes" (Or "The Supremes' Mary Wilson). Was there an acrimonious breakup? Who got the MGM LaserDisc collection?
by Anonymous | reply 57 | October 29, 2019 3:07 PM |
They started with great graphics and voice overs in their comedy vignettes, but then they’d do a static picture with voice over and then just the Jeff guy on camera doing impersonations. Now they don’t do anything.
by Anonymous | reply 58 | October 29, 2019 3:17 PM |
They fought over rough trade.
by Anonymous | reply 59 | October 29, 2019 3:30 PM |
[quote] then they’d do a static picture with voice over
It took a long time to do one of their “spectaculars” & fans wanted more, so the “quicky” ones were just stop gaps until the next “big” one came out.
by Anonymous | reply 60 | October 30, 2019 2:45 AM |
It would take A LOT of time to mask all those old videos.
by Anonymous | reply 61 | October 30, 2019 3:28 PM |
Yes, It would take A LOT of time to make all those videos.
I wonder if they did the voices first then all that fussy cutting, collaring and pasting?
I admire them!

R5 I seem to remember reading in a bio that Judy thought that Lorna had the talent in the family.
BTW: Lorna was 16 and Joey was 14 when their mother died, so they were very aware of her. In fact, they sometimes joined her on stage or on screen during her talk show. Judy was really a terrible mother, though. Toward the end, it was Joey but mostly Lorna who was taking care of her. It got so bad that Lorna collapsed and was hospitalized for stress and exhaustion. Too much responsibility for a teenager.
by Anonymous | reply 63 | November 30, 2019 11:47 PM |
Chris was behind all the animations as he’s a great artist. He’s famous for the portraits he’s done of Karen Carpenter.
by Anonymous | reply 64 | November 30, 2019 11:53 PM |
When the cream of wheat video was finished they had one for Judy on the Dick Cavett show and I watched the first few minutes. Has anyone seen this. Was Judy totally drunk when she did that show. I know she was dead about a year after she did this so maybe she was already dying but man did she look like hell with a very odd hairdo and her teeth looked awful but mostly she looked and sounded stoned out of her mind, at least IMO.
by Anonymous | reply 65 | December 1, 2019 12:31 AM |
Did you see it privately, r65? I don't think they ever released a "Judy on Dick Cavett" video to the public.
by Anonymous | reply 66 | December 1, 2019 10:53 PM |
They’re back! Judy has a pride video!
by Anonymous | reply 67 | June 26, 2020 12:03 AM |
by Anonymous | reply 68 | June 26, 2020 12:04 AM |
How great to see them back! They seem a trifle rusty but I hope they'll continue.
by Anonymous | reply 69 | June 26, 2020 12:47 AM |
Talent free drag voice people. Horrible stuff
