"The only books about Carrie Fisher worth reading are the ones Carrie wrote herself. She perfectly told us everything we needed to know.”
Carrie Fisher's Gayby Daddy Comes Out Swinging Against New Book

It's a Sheila Weller book, and she couldn't have gotten the Carly Simon/Carole King/Joni Mitchell book more wrong, so don't have a lot of interest in seeing her be wrong about Fisher.

I wonder what Weller is saying that has Lourd so upset?
Does she discuss Penny Marshall?

Lots of juicy tidbits in this excerpt, how she repeatedly fell off the wagon, and how that's what did her in. She was an addict.
"Filming Wonderwell in October in Rome, Orian Williams, the film’s producer, saw Carrie’s strength and world weariness. “She was smart and witty and wonderful” he says. “Though she had her 60th birthday during the filming, I was very surprised by her age. I thought she was somewhere in her late 70s.”

Her brother admitted in his book that Carrie was never completely sober. She struggled with drugs her whole life he pretty much said.

The book may detail how Lourd lied to her about being gay and caused her great grief over that. I once heard Debbie Reynolds say that that was the big heartbreak of Carrie's life===she never wanted to be a single mother left by a man like her mother was by Eddie Fisher. The whole thing was really triggering for her.

It's darn hard to dig it up now but someone posted an excerpt from one of Carrie's own books where she went into detail about the breakup and her feelings about it.
So in a way, he's right. She already said what she had to say about it. She didn't hold back.

Would anyone with a head be surprised to learn Carrie was never sober? I mean it really was obvious every time she appeared on a talk show that she was on something. There’s a video on YT, or there was I haven’t seen it in years, where she was at a Star Wars convention and unleashed an hour + long incoherent drug induced monologue on the audience. I think she was even photographed doing a drug deal.
I really like Carrie but I cannot imagine what could be written at this point that would scandalize anyone.

Because only Carrie and her Lourds get to decide which unflattering pieces of information the public can know.
I'm going to buy and read this book. Carrie Fisher wasn't perfect. Like a lot of brilliant people, she used her mind to make excuses for herself and her addictions. And it led to an early death.
The public is best served by the truth, warts and all.

The excerpt is good enough that I'm going to read the book.

Daughter looks hard for someone who isn't even very close to 30 yet.

Now I want to read the book.

Isn’t negative publicity the oldest trick in the book. Lourd should know that and keep his trap shut because he’s just sold another book, I never would have known it existed had he not mentioned it.

BIllie Lourd was so good in Booksmart. She sorta stole the movie.

The article is great to be honest. Doesn't make me want to read the book though. Leave it to Streep to sing Happy Days Are Here Again though at Carrie's funeral. They were dear friends, but that's such a hammy thing to do. And Streep will sing anywhere. Please stop her. She can't sing.
Billie Lourd looks exactly like her dad. Good for him to speak up for Carrie and himself. Just because she joked about her gay husband, doesn't mean it didn't hurt. It's sad that she was so hurt by all the comments about her weight and appearance on the internet, to the point that she barely left her home. That's not normal, but really. Most people can relate a bit. Drug addicts have a lot of drama and suffering and heartbreak before they get old and the body gives out. Then, the real hurt begins. The body won't take it or stops responding and they can't get away from themselves anymore. Someone who loved us SHOULD protect some of our secrets and stand up to the gossip after we're dead. Carrie told it all anyway - almost. And her daughter could not have given a more wrenching and honest statement regarding her mother's struggles with addiction and mental illness after her death. Carrie Fisher was on something for sure. By Hollywood standards she was a truly brilliant and wise woman. And she died right on time. There's nothing much to do after your 60.

I've been reading the book, about 3/4 through. It's very kind and respectful to Carrie, and says very little about Bryan other than what's already known. I don't understand his and Billie's anger.

Carrie was a pretty good writer and didn't hold back about her issues, as someone said, but no memoir will tell us everything about its subject because it's mostly presented from one perspective, the author's own. A good biographer can chronicle Fisher's life from many different perspectives (not including her daughter's and ex-husband's in this case) that can offer a fresh look at her familiar life. I understand his concern, but Fisher was a public figure, so biographies, authorized and not, are to be expected.

She was a junkie. She had pedigree, so it has a nicer term, like addict. But she was always a junkie.

With his power, I’m surprised he couldn’t get it killed. Curious man. Can’t figure him out. Seems nice enough but can’t do that job and be nice. And he’s married to a narcissistic , fame-whore, cosmetic surgery-addicted, 55-looks-25 eldergay who is best friends with Andy Cohen. Odd choice of life partner.

^ Well, at least he wasn't a tiresome addict 'any drug will do' trash bag, like his ex wife
