I remember really enjoying his debut as a director. I haven't seen it since its original theatrical run (nearly 20 years ago, now), but I remember finding it an intriguing, dark and at times funny film. It was fun to see an edgy indie with a gay storyline. And, Dan Futterman... hot as fuck.
It's a shame John Shear never made another film

This scene was hot (and funny)... I think it was a vapid self-obsessed soap actor who invited him up to his place in this scene and insisted on watching his show while they were having sex.

When I think of Urbania, I think of Matt Keeslar

Isn’t Matt Keeslar a nurse now?

Keeslar's in Oregon - specifically the Oregon Health & Science University. This is what it says:
"Matthew us a board certified Physician Assistant. He received his undergraduate degree in biology from Reed College and Master’s degree in Physician Assistant Studies from OHSU. He attended the Juilliard School of Drama and worked as a professional actor prior to his current career path. Matthew enjoys the performing arts and spending time with his family."

I bought this movie on DVD when I was a kid. I used to have the biggest crush on Dan Futterman.

Good for him. That's an impressive transition. Looks like he had acting credits as recently as 2015, too. Futterman hardly acts anymore, either, though that seems to be more because of his focus on screenwriting and producing.

I did papers in college on urban legends, so this movie was a treat for me on multiple levels.

Makes you wonder why Shear flamed out so quickly. "Urbania" was a brilliant film and signaled great future potential for him.

Urban legend was that there was a curse on this film.

Not in Futterman's case. Shear is apparently a professor at NYU these days.
