Anyone else seen this? I just got done watching it on Netflix. It was maybe the most soulless "horror" movie I've ever seen. Terrible, trite dialogue, totally unrealistic character dynamics—everything about it was just dull and felt completely phony. The performances were high-school drama class level. I am floored that it got so many good reviews.
Weird. I watched this two nights ago and I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the tension and the creepy atmosphere. Oh well, everyone's different.

I agree with r2. I found the slow burn very effective. You weren’t quite sure if what seemed to be happening was really going to happen. Also, I lived in LA for years and Kusama captured that whole milieu perfectly. Accomplished slightly vapid friends ...all of whom are scrupulously progressive yet somewhat self-involved. It made me cringe.
I also thought Destroyer was great. That bank heist scene!

At least the trailer doesn't give away the whole movie and what actually happens. It's just a montage of ominous moments with ominous music and sound effects. It seems to have some hot guys in it though.

To each their own. I actually thought this was a really, really good film and I don't care for most of the stuff I see on Netflix. Loved the last scene.

DL's fave Mike Doyle is in it.

I’m with r1 and r4. Good film, great ending. Have to think Peele saw this as there are quite a few parallels with Get Out. They even have the same opening driving scene.

The last scene disrupted the whole scale of the movie in a crazy way. Didn’t see that dystopian/apocalyptic twist coming.

Dear lord, am I a ditz...I meant I agreed with r2. Ha.

I thought the film captured the creepy /beautiful vibe of L.A. It's such an evocative and haunted city.

I would have been out the second she slapped that dude in the face. Who the fuck does that?!

r10, every single Datalounger enjoying the drama?

I really enjoyed this and the ending was a ripper. The poor director went to direct botox dyke Kidman in the awful Destroyer which has probably destroyed the director career.

I expected to hate this one too because horror films that critics go gaga for often tend to suck big time but I fucking loved it. That Pruitt guy has to be one of the creepiest movie characters of all time.
But I was shocked to see how big Tammy Blanchard's lips were. It's sad she felt the need to go down the botox and collagen route, because she used to be so gorgeous (but then again, this did take place in LA and lips like those certainly aren't a rare sight there).

Karyn's career stalled after she did Aeon Flux. And i thought things were going to improve when Jennifer's Body came out.

I'm late to the game, but have been listening to a lot of film podcasts lately and this always comes up as a master in the horror genre. I just went through the French extreme genre and after Martyrs, everything else just does not compare. I thought this was suspenseful and the cast was very good at playing creepy LA, which feels authentic. I could see myself at this event. Podcasters were saying the ending was absolutely "shocking" and I didn't feel that way. I kept thinking it would go the obvious way but the shocking thing would be any number of off scenarios I concocted. It ended up being what I thought. It was fine, but this was more suspense than horror.

I have to agree. I didn't find the ending shocking either. My expectations were high after hearing all of the good reviews.

I've seen it few years ago and I LOVED it.

Have to also disagree. I watched this last year knowing nothing about it, and it kinda blew me away. The whole idea of what was happening, slowly revealed, got under my skin. It’s very “modern” 2015-era filmmaking, but I could look past the cliches because overall I loved how cynical it was. I don’t think of it as horror, just a mind-fuck thriller. I still think about this upsetting film!

OP - you’re kind of alone on thus. Excellent horror thriller. Maybe stick to Transformers movies.

Michael Huisman is such a gorgeous hunk. He should be naked in every single scene of every single movie or show he's in.
Any good tidbits from the gay couple in this movie?

I loved it. I thought it was terrifying.
