The height of GLAMOUR!
I loved the way they would writhe all over the stage to some non-danceable song like "Shame on the Moon," then the camera would cut to Marilyn McCoo afterward and she'd say, "Thanks, Darcel and Cooley."

One of the female dancers was actually a working actress for a while, she played Teela in that terrible He-Man movie also starring Friend's raging bitch to be Courtney Cox.

I adored the SG Dancers -- every Sunday night. I preferred the too-short Andy Gibb years with Marilyn McCoo. My favorite performances were when the dancers would act out the lyrics to the songs. When they did their routine to Hall & Oates' "Private Eyes," they wore trench coats and matching fedoras with old-fashioned magnifying glasses. It was almost Fosse-esque.
I also liked when the dancers would dance as the bands were miming their songs. And then there's this strapping lad who practically ate my Stevie's pussy on national TV. Go to the 2:29 minute mark for the action.
Stand back, indeed!

As soon as I opened this thread, I looked for R2.

They were the ne plus ultra of.... something!

The problem is they were dancers in an era when dance music was being destroyed and denigrated for being “fag” music. Exceptions of course - but in general the 80s were the worst dance music period ever.

R8 that is a ridiculous statement about dance music in the 80s.

Even though we were far too young for it to be true, my husband used to tell people we met when we were both Solid Gold dancers.

Miss Warwick wishes she was doing this now!

Interestingly, r5, Stevie appears to actually be performing the song live, a rarity on Solid Gold.

Now this is my kind of thread. I do the solid gold dancers workout daily. I’m on day 4 today.

My new girlfriend was a Solid Gold dancer. She has the best moves.

I never missed an episode of this show as a wee gayling. I think MTV eventually made it seem passe, but it was where I first discovered Madonna (performing "Holiday," which never had an official video) and Blondie ("The Tide Is High" and "Rapture").

I danced along which, after the farmhouse chorus of “FAG”, got the show banned.
I learned to tie a tie just to wear it as a headband.

My sister and I used to toss ourselves around the family room pretending to be Solid Gold Dancers. Our parents were not amused.

My sister and I use to wear slippery slippers, and we would dance with the solid gold dancers. The Slippery slippers helped with the turns.

Meh. It was no "Dance Fever"

I would watch this show every week up until the closing credits where they would dance to Marilyn McCoo singing the theme song. 💕

The S.G. dancers were not only great performers, they also gave back to the community!
