Meet a former Democrat turned Trump voter...

It really doesn’t much better than this, folks.

This quick, little Q&A between Katie Herzog & a former democrat who transitioned to republican, (DtR) is the most honest representation of why people ended up voting for Trump, & will undoubtedly vote for him again.

By the way, as I am typing this, I just realized that this is how we lose Democracy in America. Keep people angry, confused, broke, sick, and poor, mission accomplished.

Sometimes, I’m really not sure we’re gonna make it, folks.

This interview was so sad on so many levels. Partly because the interviewee may be right. He thinks taxing the rich and giving out free stuff won't work because the rich will just move their money elsewhere or find loopholes. And the worst thing is he's probably right. That still doesn't excuse voting for the GOP though

by Anonymousreply 1October 19, 2019 3:44 AM

bye bye tulsi, ff this shit.

by Anonymousreply 2October 19, 2019 3:50 AM

I’m sorry but this whole thing still comes down to race for me. Donald Trump won the Republican nomination by LYING that Barack Obama wasn’t a American citizen. This disgusting lie should have been enough to get him banished by both parties. For some of us, it was so morally offensive that it defined him and those who supported him. For many who voted for him, it was no big deal. In fact, I think many of those people shrugged it off as politics as normal.

And now, those same people can’t understand why those who revile Trump have such low regard for their character. They think we’re bigoted against them just because we’re elitists. Bullshit.

by Anonymousreply 3October 19, 2019 3:57 AM

[quote] Sometimes, I’m really not sure we’re gonna make it, folks.

I was thinking this same thing earlier today.

by Anonymousreply 4October 19, 2019 3:58 AM

OP if it makes you feel better we won over many former republicans in 2018.

by Anonymousreply 5October 19, 2019 4:03 AM

“Now, it seems like it’s about who can propose the most free stuff. Like Warren: Last night it was free healthcare for everybody, free college for everybody, student debt forgiveness, we're going to have free daycare, and then when it comes down to how we are going to pay for it, it's, "Oh, we're going to tax the billionaires." “

What strikes me is the how Americans find the idea of free healthcare, education Etc so outlandish. Yet here in NZ, this is exactly what we have. Free healthcare, free education, free daycare, ACC etc

Last month my mother’s cousin had a fall and broke her hip and went into hospital straight away. By the next morning she had a hip replacement and spent two weeks in hospital. She’s now recovering at home and gets daily home help care for the next couple of weeks. The cost to her? Zero. 100% free. 2017 I went to the doctor with pain that turned out to be appendicitis. The same day I had it removed. Cost to me? Zero. Then took 3 weeks sick leave off work to recover while still on full pay. I’m so thankful to NOT be an American.

I remember a post on another thread maybe a year ago that has stuck with me. That it comes down to deep seeded racism. The average white middle American would for sure love to have this type of social welfare but they sure damn don’t want their tax dollars spent on them blacks/hispanics etc.

by Anonymousreply 6October 19, 2019 4:07 AM

Ding, ding, ding, R6. You’ve got it exactly.

by Anonymousreply 7October 19, 2019 4:11 AM

R6, I lived in NZ as a kid and our family was eligible for citizenship. My mom, though, opted to return to the US. Our extended family in NZ and OZ still rue the decision. When I visit my elderly grandmother, she'll say if only your mom hadn't returned to the US. Sometimes I think my mom regrets it too but doesn't want to dwell on it.

by Anonymousreply 8October 19, 2019 4:14 AM

[quote]But if it turns into an us-versus-them race, that would be the path that would get me to stay with Trump. I get that it's not rational and that it's not policy-based, but I won't vote for someone who I think despises me.

Interesting. He touches on this perception that Democrats hate him at least three times.

by Anonymousreply 9October 19, 2019 4:16 AM

I'm sick of hearing from Trump voters. The day the media catches up with talking to as many republicans turned democrats is the day I'll read this stuff.

by Anonymousreply 10October 19, 2019 4:16 AM

Interesting interview, OP. Thanks. The line about Yang was especially interesting:

[quote] What's the appeal with Yang?

[quote] I don't think he hates half the country.

by Anonymousreply 11October 19, 2019 4:17 AM

FUCK DEPLORABLE EXCUSES.

DONALD TRUMP AND HIS WHITE TRASH ARMY OF SUCKERS ARE DEPLORABLE.

It needs to be said LOUDER by EVERYONE, especially in politics. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR TRUMP AND NO PERSUADING HIS BASE. NEGATIVE ADVERTISING IN POLITICS WORKS-- IT'S PROVEN!!!

TELL THE TRUTH!!!!!!

by Anonymousreply 12October 19, 2019 4:19 AM

I'm pretty sure deplorables hate half the country

by Anonymousreply 13October 19, 2019 4:21 AM

I have to say though, when you read the full interview, the interviewee lands a few punches.

by Anonymousreply 14October 19, 2019 4:23 AM

Yang and Tulsi are also popular with alt-righters.

We've been trolled hard tonight, not surprising since a lot of these flying monkeys (oops, "interns") get sent over her to work over the weekend. I blocked one of those trolls and, apparently, he started 10+ threads about the technophobia of "the left", the support for Stalin from "the left", etc.

by Anonymousreply 15October 19, 2019 4:24 AM

Trump has shown he's a horrible president but Tim thinks Clinton would have been worse. Okay.

He doesn't like the freebies proposed by Warren but UBI is "interesting". Okay.

He thinks Trump is despicable but won't vote for someone who he thinks despises him. Okay.

by Anonymousreply 16October 19, 2019 4:25 AM

He sounds like a total loser, he needs to get his life together and stop looking for Trump to run down the world so he can feel better about his pathetic life.

by Anonymousreply 17October 19, 2019 4:31 AM

R8, I'd have so much resentment towards my mom for that. Fuck, man.😡🤯

by Anonymousreply 18October 19, 2019 4:33 AM

Redneck men are the whiniest bunch of pussies I’ve ever met in my life. They never stop whining about the libruls.

Fuck this moron.

by Anonymousreply 19October 19, 2019 4:34 AM

You didn't read it, did you r19. He's a former Bernie Bro. Not a redneck "whining about the libruls"

by Anonymousreply 20October 19, 2019 4:40 AM

Tim is a “working class guy living in a rural area.” He spends the whole interview complaining about people hating him.

A whiny redneck bitch.

by Anonymousreply 21October 19, 2019 4:42 AM

Read it. It's the most frustrating illogical garbage. He's a moron, but we have to try to win back at least some voters like him.

by Anonymousreply 22October 19, 2019 4:43 AM

[quote] Tim: "Mayor Pete, there is just something about him that I don't like."

What could that be, I wonder?

by Anonymousreply 23October 19, 2019 4:44 AM

So a Bernie bro, makes sense. And they tell us Bernie folks voted for Hillary

by Anonymousreply 24October 19, 2019 4:47 AM

R23, yeah, same as why he found it so difficult to vote for Clinton and is wary of Warren but didn't have a problem voting for a really, really despicable guy like Trump.

by Anonymousreply 25October 19, 2019 4:48 AM

He's a Bernie Bro, and is being disingenuous. He voted for Trump because he didn't get his way with the Dem nomination. Then he just let himself get caught up in the cult.

by Anonymousreply 26October 19, 2019 4:50 AM

Also correct, R26. He loved Bernie and therefore hated Clinton. Therefore hated the DNC when Clinton won the nomination. And therefore hates Democrats now because they don’t love him for his illogical protest vote.

by Anonymousreply 27October 19, 2019 4:52 AM

He's anti-"free stuff" but used to be a Bernie bro? Bernie is all about the free stuff: health care, college, etc. And can't these idiots understand this stuff isn't free because you'd pay for it through your own taxes?

by Anonymousreply 28October 19, 2019 4:52 AM

R28, exactly. He's a self-brainwashed fucking moron. Too much pot or something.

by Anonymousreply 29October 19, 2019 4:54 AM

Exactly, no principle, no policy--he admits as much that he didn't vote for Trump in terms of policy. He can rationalize all he wants but his protest was that he didn't want to vote for woman due to his inferiority complex. Oh, she hurt my feelings, I'm going to vote for the asshole instead! Even though the asshole's policies likely hurt him more than the mean smart woman's.

by Anonymousreply 30October 19, 2019 4:58 AM

He's such a self-sabotaging mess. Sad.

by Anonymousreply 31October 19, 2019 5:00 AM

Don't try to use facts and logic when dealing with these people, you'll just get annoyed. Is it a surprise that they like someone who uses no logic and lies and is incredibly hypocritical?

by Anonymousreply 32October 19, 2019 5:02 AM

The interviewee sounds a like a Reddit troll (the support for Yang and the Bernie to Trump transition are the most obvious examples). He's way too knowledgeable about minute political controversies to be realistic as some ex-Democrat turned mild Trump supporter.

The whole interview is just troll-y. He slams Warren for wanting to give out too much free stuff and then later accuses of her of actually being "too moderate." That's she lying about being a progressive and is actually just another corporate Democrat like Hillary. He's anti-free stuff except supported Bernie in '16. Hillary calling half of Trump's supporters deplorables crossed the line, while Trump's racism, sexism and pussy-grabbing can be overlooked.

by Anonymousreply 33October 19, 2019 5:04 AM

[quote] He's way too knowledgeable about minute political controversies to be realistic as some ex-Democrat turned mild Trump supporter.

I think you're right, R33. I couldn't put my finger on it at first, but yes, that's it. It's bullshit.

Or he's just burnt the fuck out due to drugs or something. He's a mess.

by Anonymousreply 34October 19, 2019 5:06 AM

All these fuckers know these dumb ass reporters are looking for a good hillbilly Trump story to cram down all our throats for the millionth time. Not surprising some 4chan jackass gives them what they want.

by Anonymousreply 35October 19, 2019 5:08 AM

The fact that he's a Bernie Bro makes the whole story make sense.

by Anonymousreply 36October 19, 2019 5:11 AM

[quote]Yang and Tulsi are also popular with alt-righters.

Both of those turds, like Bernie, strike me as people who NEVER VOTED before they themselves were on the ballot. Just my hunch about these loons.

by Anonymousreply 37October 19, 2019 5:15 AM

Exhibit A: Tim

Exhibit B: A 35-year old, white, professional women told me she hated Hillary because Hillary was a liar and so she couldn't vote for her. She decided to vote for Trump even though she thought he was possibly bad news, too. Her rationale was that if he was really bad or dangerous when he assumed office, congress would impeach him. That was her safety value that allowed her to vote for the mess that is Donald Trump- impeachment. Of course, that line of thinking is just as nuts as it seems.

So to recap: in 2016 we searched the whole country for someone to be about the most powerful person in the world. We had approximately 180 million adults over age 35 to choose from. 180 MILLION. And the voters' consensus per electoral college was: game show host, scam-artist, Donald Trump.

And that's why they call us "The American Experiment."

by Anonymousreply 38October 19, 2019 5:40 AM

You forgot to mention the so-called cracker jack businessman/Wharton grad whose business venture filed for bankruptcy not once, not twice but three times, R39. And when he finally exited the market, he blamed everybody else but himself, including Atlantic City and the state of New Jersey. How it is Atlantic City's fault? The Borgata has made money every year of its approx 15 year life. If the Borgata can make money in Atlantic City, why can't he?

So many of his Deplorable supporters think he's this expert businessman. If he's such a great businessman, why does every New York bank, his home town and the center of his business "empire" refuse to lend him money?

by Anonymousreply 39October 19, 2019 5:58 AM

Fear not, DLers, I pledge to cancel his vote with mine.

I claim his vote for neutralization!

by Anonymousreply 40October 19, 2019 6:00 AM

[quote]The average white middle American would for sure love to have this type of social welfare but they sure damn don’t want their tax dollars spent on them blacks/hispanics etc.

I have to agree with R6 and not just because we're both NZers. I just couldn't wrap my head around why people DIDN'T want things like free healthcare, a good social welfare system, etc etc until one day I read a comment on a food forum where a lady said the reason she would never support universal healthcare is that she didn't want people who smoke and eat junk food to use it. A ton of people liked that comment. I started noticing similar sentiment towards not just blacks/hispanics etc, but also just poor people or those that society seems to look down on in the USA by a certain faction. That's when I realised it's driven by selfishness. Sad.

It's not even that hard to make systems like that work, but the underlying tenet of WANTING it to work for everybody in society is vital and I was really sad to discover that that seems to be the biggest obstacle to overcome.

by Anonymousreply 41October 19, 2019 6:25 AM

The NZer here again.

I worked on and off for a couple of years with a Florida Frau who moved to NZ with her husband and three teenage kids. She was a republican and we got talking about Hilary v Trump during the election campaign.

She absolutely hated Hillary and called her power hungry owing to the fact she was running when she had already been FLOTUS and SofS. I said well then isn’t Jeb Bush also in the same category? She said no as it was some how completely different. At this stage she was completely anti Trump. She said that if Hilary became president she would never return to the USA.

So Trump won and when I next saw her, suddenly trump was the best thing to ever happen to the USA. I asked if she was concerned by the nepotism that Trump was showing Ivanka and her husband by giving them offical government jobs. She said no and said that if Hillary won she would have done the same with Chelsea. And she said that would have outraged her. But couldn’t see the irony of letting trump off the hook for actually doing it.

Then we got talking about Gun control and I said that NZ proves the argument against guns and that gun control works. She said she feels unsafe without a gun and would want to carry a weapon here. Apparently she feels less safe with no one with a gun than everyone with a gun.

They are seriously deluded people.

by Anonymousreply 42October 19, 2019 9:47 AM

I had some woman online ask me if Halloween isn't popular here because of all the liberals we have. WTAF?

by Anonymousreply 43October 19, 2019 10:16 AM

There was an article in the New York Times about a farmer who was being hurt by Trump's tariffs on soybeans. He had voted for Trump, but now he worried that he might lose his farm if the tariffs lasted for a year or more. He clearly was in some financial pain over Trump's policies with China and tariffs.

But here's the (now expected) kicker: the farmer said that if this kept up, he MIGHT have trouble voting for Trump again. MIGHT.

That's the "resilience" of Trump voters. He kicks them down a flight of stairs, and they crawl back up again to worship at his feet. again.

by Anonymousreply 44October 19, 2019 2:22 PM

OP here. G’mornin’, Bitches! 😘

When I first came upon this Q & A, I actually had to read it 3x. It’s not because I didn’t understand or comprehend ‘Tim’s’ answers: it’s because I was struck with incredulity to an extent I hadn’t been previously, when reading interviews of other Trumpsters. His answers were just fucking unbelievable.

Tim has enough intelligence to grasp & process moderately complex systems, such as tax shelters, and the purpose and benefits of those tax shelters. He understands that in order to equally distribute tax dollars for socialist modeled/structured domestic legislation & policy, the money has to come from somewhere. Yet he continuously steps into traps he sets up with alternative arguments, such as the appeal of UBI, which ALSO has to be funded by American tax payers.

And on, & on it goes.

Ultimately, Tim’s thinking is the equivalent of blue balls.

Here’s a hypothetical Q & A with Tim, about is marriage & sex life:

Me: What are you & your wife doing tonight, Tim?

Tim: I’m spending my Friday night at a strip club, & I’m gonna blow my entire paycheck on strippers who aren’t gonna fuck me or get me off, because I love my wife, & refuse to cheat on her.

Me: So why go to the strip club & blow your cash? Aren’t you guys struggling to make your mortgage payments?

Tim: Well, because I need to blow some steam, and get away from her for a night.

Me: Didn’t you just tell me the other day, how she’s really fun, & how much you love having a 23 year old wife, whose got a banging body, & is hot as fuck? Didn’t you also mention she fucks the shit outta you, & loves giving you BJs?

Tim: Well yes. All of those things are true. I love her. As a matter of fact, I met her in that strip club, & got her off that pole! I ain’t gonna be married to no girl who strips. My little lady’s a good girl, now. That’s why I love her, she’s a lady on the streets, & my little whore in the sheets.

Me: So if all of these things are true, & you’re always broke, why are you going to the strip club?

Tim: Because I’m horny, dude!

Me: 🤔

I wish someone could wake me up from this fucking nightmare we’re all collectively dreaming at this moment. It’s just absolutely UNBELIEVABLE to read a Q & A conducted with someone like Tim.

Tim is a typical Trumpster who we see represented at his rallies. They make absolutely no fucking sense at all, whatsoever, & as evidenced in the Q & A that I linked at the inception of this thread, they just don’t have any self awareness or the ability to pause, & engage in self reflection, in order to understand their fallacious thought processes.

I mean, Tim’s just one example of what I am convinced are many who share little in common with Tim.

We’ve become somewhat conditioned to expect illogical explanations from people who share similar demographics with Tim. OK, yes. But Tim has given me a corridor into the thinking process of pretty much ALL Trump supporters, & if I believe otherwise, I am the person experiencing illogical thinking & fallacies attached to that thinking.

I tend to usually err on the side of caution, & reflexively give people who are well educated & intelligent, generous amounts of the benefit of doubt when it comes to engaging them in conversations regarding their staunch & unrelenting support of Trump. I’ve been under a delusion, much like Tim, which erroneously predisposes me to think that reason will prevail with these folks.

It won’t. Slice ‘em, dice ‘em, serve ‘em up on this silver platter, or the plastic one, they are all trapped in a mindset generated by highly sophisticated methods that have indoctrinated them into a cult like worship of an amalgamation of all of their biggest hopes & dreams, mixed in with all of their worst fears, bad, past experiences, & finally , sprinkled with the belief that there’s not enough of anything, ever, to go around for everyone, even when they have WAY more than enough.

JFC. Incredible. Ain’t it?

by Anonymousreply 45October 20, 2019 4:05 PM

R6, the two worst bigots I ever knew were Australian. The US is riddled with racism but your country is, too.

And it's "deep seated," not "seeded."

by Anonymousreply 46October 20, 2019 4:10 PM

If the Democrats can successfully illustrate that Obama is responsible for the good economy- not Trump, who has actually damaged it- they will take away Trump's only "success".

by Anonymousreply 47October 20, 2019 4:19 PM

So many people fail to realize that it is the GOP that is responsible for all the policies that have negatively impacted their lives and continued to hold them down. Its all about the narrative.

by Anonymousreply 48October 20, 2019 4:22 PM

R46 at least I’m not dumb enough to mix up Australia and New Zealand.
