Erik Prince Wants To Privatize War...NOW..In Syria

[post redacted because independent.co.uk thinks that links to their ridiculous rag are a bad thing. Somebody might want to tell them how the internet works. Or not. We don't really care. They do suck though. Our advice is that you should not click on the link and whatever you do, don't read their truly terrible articles.]

Oh finally we can get links to the Independent again.

Here’s his remark about FDR

"The president's instincts are right to note have a permanent American presence in Eastern Syria, that is not in the interest fo the United States," he said. "On the flip side, abandoning the Kurs is not the best idea. But there are other ways to do this. The perfect analogy is the Flying Tigers: when you had Japan in the 1930s bombing the hell out of Chinese cities, America was not going to be involved. But FDR, a beloved Democrat, allowed American Marines, Navy, and Army pilots to go work for a private company that became the Flying Tigers. and they defended Chinese cities against Japanese aggression before the United States entered the war."

Prince also uses the rightwing catchphrase “forever wars.”

This asshat was spawned from the same mother who also hatched asswipe Betsy DeVos, the education nitwit.

Oh and here’s another reason why we should privatize war, says Prince. Because we have so few people in the military that very few Americans have contact with the military. So, as far as he’s concerned, if you don’t know anyone in the military, you can’t “call BS” on the generals.

“”It's "more money and more troops or nothing," he said. "But there are a lot of hybrid ways to do this, but no one is willing to think outside the box."

"We have a great all-volunteer force, but the fact is that 0.5% of the U.S. population serves in the military, maybe another 3-5% knows someone who serves. Leaving 95% of Ameria with no real contact with the military. So no one feels empowered to call B.S. on the generals on this national security point."””

“””Everyone says they support our troops and thank you for their service, if they really want to support their troops, demand better. Demand that their sacrifice not be wasted. That we not just muddle along as some of the generals have called for," Prince said. "We have the finest officers in the world, but it seems like once they become generals it is a self-licking ice cream cone of who gets promoted and who gets approved to join that club. No one thinks outside the box. We have no George Pattons anymore. We have no Ulysses S. Grants. We have none of the swashbuckling generals that actually made things happen."”” -Erik Prince

Yeah, support our troops by demanding better mercenaries.

by Anonymousreply 5October 16, 2019 9:46 PM

Yeah but FDR didn't do that to make money. But Prince makes sense. Because the only reason for this was is to benefit military contractors and Putin.

Btw: Shouldn't this evil MF be behind bars? What happened to the investigation of the Seychelles meetings?

Look at the comments — a treasure trove of Russian bots demanding an end to middle eastern wars and the corrupt US generals and military.

Trump & his minions are now looking to end the US military.

Opus Dei asshole. I hope he gets his head blown off in one of his for profit wars.

by Anonymousreply 8October 16, 2019 10:15 PM

What a great idea. Job opportunities with guns involved.

by Anonymousreply 9October 16, 2019 10:45 PM

Replace US forces with more expensive privatized war criminals?

by Anonymousreply 10October 16, 2019 11:12 PM

I don’t think Price is Opus Dei, he’s not catholic.

What if.......and I know it sounds paranoid, but Trump just started attacking generals, just like Prince is doing....Trump’s withdrawal from Syria was not an impulsive deal with Turkey...it was a deal with Turkey, Russia and Prince (and other military contractors) to replace US troops in the Mideast with a permanent mercenary army. Remember when Rumsfeld went into Iraq with too few soldiers? That was because he wanted contractors to get the biggest piece of pie and cut down on paying the middleman - the US military.

Why give money to the US military & dispense it to contractors when contractors can just get the money straight from the govt itself? Then billionaires can directly run US military policy without needing congress to approve anything. Just steal the presidency (they’ve already stolen it & the SCOTUS) and give the money directly to billionaire contractors.

Trump will say, “Well, I don’t want to send our troops back into Syria because they’ve been there a long time and they’re tired and need a break and besides, Saudi Arabia wants to pay them. So let’s send them to Saudi Arabia and bring in some experts who worked in Iraq and Afghanistan and got results. The generals got bogged down. These guys went in and came out after their contracts were up. I like that. It’s cost saving and we can work around these terrible generals and the swamp in Washington who don’t know what they’re doing.”

Erik’s family are fundy bible thumpers, not catholic.
