Grieving Parents ‘Ambushed’ by Trump, Who Had Teen’s Killer Waiting at White House

[quote]The Dunn family, now in the United States to drum up support to send Sacoolas back to the U.K. to face justice, had accepted an “urgent” invitation by the White House from National Security Adviser Robert O’Brien, to visit Donald Trump in Washington, D.C. Trump, it seems, thought he could convince the Dunns to meet the woman who killed their son, and would do so by opening a side door through which she would walk. The whole scene would be captured by a pool of photographers who had been summoned for the meeting.

Paywall

by Anonymousreply 1October 16, 2019 1:24 PM

Jesus Christ.

The best thing about that article is that they nail what Trump was trying to do: create a reality TV moment. Disgusting.

by Anonymousreply 2October 16, 2019 1:24 PM

I can't believe this happened. Bitch should get impeached for his alone! Yes, let's just bring out their son's murderer from a side entrance like it's a fucking gameshow. I'm fuming!

by Anonymousreply 3October 16, 2019 1:25 PM

Paywall in UK, not in US

by Anonymousreply 4October 16, 2019 1:55 PM

She’s lucky that big fella didn’t latch those meat hooks around her neck and strangle her to death when he saw her.

by Anonymousreply 5October 16, 2019 2:00 PM

He probably wanted to reach passed his son’s murderer to strangle Trump.

by Anonymousreply 6October 16, 2019 2:11 PM

No, he didn't, R6. Both parents were "impressed" by Trump and aren't putting any blame on him at all, according to the article. Bet they love Boris Johnson, too.

by Anonymousreply 7October 16, 2019 2:16 PM

I feel for the parents' loss. But why didn't someone advise them to lose the piercing jewelry, the bleached fright wig, and cover up all those tattoos before they spoke to the press? Also, it seems they don't know what they want. First, they kept saying they couldn't grieve until they heard an explanation of the accident and an apology from Anne Sacoolas herself. Now, they've missed the one and only opportunity they'll ever have to meet her face-to-face. Now they're saying they will only meet with her in the UK, and only in a room stuffed with mediators and counselors.

Sacoolas had diplomatic immunity at the time of the accident, like it or not. She'll never be extradited to the UK. The parents should go home and start their grieving, instead of making a spectacle of themselves before the press.

by Anonymousreply 8October 16, 2019 3:13 PM

Pure Trump. That's how he views the whole world. It's all he knows.

"And behind THIS door..."

by Anonymousreply 9October 16, 2019 3:20 PM

These people are in grief and when that happens, you aren’t ok. This is cruel to do to them on every level.

This demand to make nice with the authority that just murdered and drove off with zero care.

by Anonymousreply 10October 16, 2019 3:23 PM

Are they Trump supporters??

by Anonymousreply 11October 16, 2019 3:24 PM

Who is advising cheeto for chrissakes?

Are there literally NO adults in the WH anymore?

by Anonymousreply 12October 16, 2019 3:28 PM

That's so disgusting, even by the low standards of Trump.

by Anonymousreply 13October 16, 2019 3:33 PM

Trump didn’t dream this up; one of his lackeys did. Not defending him, but his brain doesn’t think about other people and their feelings. He didn’t waste a single lonely brain cell on this stunt.

And while I feel for these people... what on earth were they thinking? A trip to Trump’s White House is never a good idea. EVER.

by Anonymousreply 14October 16, 2019 3:50 PM

They are hoping for justice. Kissing Trumps ass is one way to get it.

by Anonymousreply 15October 16, 2019 3:51 PM

Maybe Trump is warming up for a reboot of "This is Your Life." Do you recognize this voice? Yes, its the woman who killed your son. Come on out now and meet the parents.

by Anonymousreply 16October 16, 2019 4:01 PM

Sarah Jessica horseface parker and husband also killed one person ( or two?) decades ago in Ireland driving the wrong way. I wonder if this is what the parents of those killed felt.

RIP.

by Anonymousreply 17October 16, 2019 5:12 PM

They didn't cave though, and thwarted his big moment p[residing over two sobbing, emnbracing women. So he lost, in his world view.

by Anonymousreply 18October 16, 2019 5:40 PM

by Anonymousreply 19October 16, 2019 9:47 PM

Or was this just to intimidate them and stand by a manslaughterer?

by Anonymousreply 24October 16, 2019 10:18 PM

Bullshit, r14.

The father Dunn called out Trump and challenged him on international media. So Trump wanted to personally defy and troll him.

by Anonymousreply 25October 16, 2019 10:20 PM

Shocking.

I can't even begin to know what this has done to them but all they accomplished was to show us that all they want is revenge. First, all they wanted was an apology. They got it but then said it wasn't good enough. Then they came here because all they wanted was to meet her. She said she would meet with them and they said no, Only in the UK. then they said She needed to do this for herself and her kids and her family so she could make herself right. their son just died and instead of allowing the gov't's. to try and handle it they are parading themselves all over the US. saying they don't blame Trump for that stupid stunt finished it foe me. even by Gayle King's 3rd interview with she could see all they were looking for was revenge. they said all they wanted was a conviction and it was ok if she didn't go to jail. yeah right

by Anonymousreply 30October 17, 2019 5:19 PM

Immunity can be waived for acts not related to official conduct. That she fled the UK was the first grievous error. She would have been fairly treated there. That State has not rescinded immunity and sent her back is a slap in the face to our strongest ally.

by Anonymousreply 37November 7, 2019 1:38 AM

[quote] a slap in the face to our strongest ally.

Our strongest ally is the E.U.

The U.K. is over.

by Anonymousreply 38November 7, 2019 1:54 AM

I hope she has to pay up now - big time. If the family won't get justice, I hope at least they get $$$. And lots of it. When Trump ambushed the family at the WH, they demanded she should return to the UK immediately and one of Trump's minions shouted at the mother that would never happen. The irony is she probably would have gotten probation, a fine or community service. Now she is facing a million dollar lawsuit for fleeing the country like a coward.

I also love that everyone knows her name now. So all her neighbors, friends, colleagues and acquaintances know what a horrible person she is.

by Anonymousreply 39November 7, 2019 4:21 AM

I had forgotten about this entirely and will again about 20 minutes from now.

by Anonymousreply 40November 8, 2019 4:38 AM

The collision was an accident. The RAF Croughton spouse had been in the UK for three weeks, and she turned right and drove on the right side of the road a short distance outside the base, colliding with the motorcyclist as he came up a gentle hill that hid him from her sight until it was too late.

The RAF Croughton spouse had diplomatic immunity. She wasn't *granted* diplomatic immunity after the fact; she had it from the day she arrived in the UK. She didn't *request* it; it came with her spouse's job at RAF Croughton. She cooperated with local LE at the scene after the accident, and local LE interviewed her the next day at her home. As soon as local LE learned she had diplomatic immunity, that ended all contact with her. She left the UK about three weeks after the accident.

Why is the concept of diplomatic immunity so hard for the middle-aged, facial-studded, tattooed parents of the accident victim to understand? It's as if they've never heard of diplomatic immunity before.

In the US, we're used to diplomats and relatives of diplomats in our country not being charged with all kinds of crimes because of diplomatic immunity. It's normal.

'They're suing the driver. They're suing the Trump administration. They're suing the local LE. They're suing the ambulance service. Who's next? What do they expect to happen? By definition, diplomatic immunity means that the driver cannot be prosecuted. She doesn't have it anymore, because she left the UK, but at the time of the accident she was covered by diplomatic immunity, so there's nowhere to go from there. The parents need to accept that.

by Anonymousreply 41November 8, 2019 5:59 AM

R41 For those of us who have held "official passports" and worked in countries for the USG, I think we're quite familiar with our obligations. One of the first is to cooperate with law enforcement - especially in allied countries. She wasn't an undercover asset. She was the fucking spouse. What right wingers like *you* fail to comprehend is that law applies to everyone, but most especially it applies to those who represent the US Government overseas.

When diplomats get into trouble, they may well be recalled by their government or PNG'd home. We usually only see criminal flight for low rent, scuzzballs who are already in trouble with their home country. That a Trump appointee has gotten into trouble because his wife is a complete tool and saw herself *above* the law symbolizes why we hate this administration so much.

That you have no goddamn clue what diplomatic immunity means and how it applies in any context just means you should really practice the art of silence and not miss any further opportunities to enhance your skill.

by Anonymousreply 42November 9, 2019 12:08 AM

r48, the RAF Croughton guy wasn't a Trump appointee. He collected information as a career spy. Intelligence gathering is what that base is for, not for diplomacy as you understand it. Also, his spouse cooperated with local LE (Northamptonshire police) right up to the point where they were informed of her diplomatic immunity, at which point they had no choice but to stop questioning her.

As the UK Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs reported to the House of Commons, "The UK government had been notified of the American family’s arrival in the UK in July 2019, and this diplomatic immunity was the result of the arrangements agreed between the UK government and the US government back in 1995. Under those arrangements, US staff at RAF Croughton and their families were accepted as part of the US embassy in the UK. Pursuant to these arrangements, staff and their families were entitled to immunity under the Vienna convention on diplomatic relations. Under the exchange of notes in relation to the Croughton annexe, these arrangements waived immunity for employees, but the waiver did not cover spouses.”

So maybe it was a fluke or an oversight, but the spouse of the RAF Croughton guy held diplomatic immunity under the terms of the Vienna convention at the time of the traffic accident. The UK did ask the USA to waive her immunity, but the US said no because it would set a dangerous precedent. The USA seldom waives diplomatic immunity in any case.

That's Trump for you. But in the end, what do the parents think they will get out of a lawsuit? Just money $$$ - they need to understand that.

R43 Well, since you went there. If he was a "spy", then his actions are inconsistent the GC protections (Title 50, non-Title 50). The Brits can PNG him. So it sounds more like the typical reckless imagineering of the Trump administration to assert someone on a diplomatic passport is engaged in actions contrary to diplomatic status.
