Hedda, despite her ultra right-wing politics, was somewhat of a fag hag. She had no problem with a set decorator or a make-up artist being gay, however, it rankled her if a lead actor was gay.
Louella never forgave Hedda for becoming a gossip columnist. When Hedda was an actress, Louella would curiously give her very over the top, effusive praise in Louella's gossip column. Hedda's career was almost entirely limited to supporting roles & bit parts, she was considered a dependable, if rather forgettable actress. Some have speculated that Hedda was a spy for Louella, she would give Louella the dirt on what occurred on the movie sets, in return, Lolly would frequently mention Hedda in her gossip column.
