There is an interview with Mitzi Gaynor on youtube. In talking about the death of her husband which it seems was very difficult she says he did not pass he DIED.

Off-topic, but apparently doctors have to explicitly use the word "die" when breaking news about terminal illness. Euphemisms like "pass away" soften the blow too much, making it easier for people to remain in denial.

This reminds me of when Matthew McConaughey was being interviewed on camera and was asked to comment on Sam Shepard's recent "passing." Matthew didn't know and was like, "Sam Shepard has moved on?" He used that term a few times, which annoyed me. The guy died, what's wrong with saying it?
