Madonna one said, “If I were Mariah Carey, I’d kill myself”

What warranted such a nasty comment? Was she that jealous of a new singer getting attention? My goodness, she was such a bitter cunt in the early 90s. Worse than any other point in her life.

I would hate to have my head always tilted left like Mariah, and force everyone to go along with the obsession of showing the right side.

Because all MC had to was just spread her legs for Tommy Mottola to get her career started...???

by Anonymousreply 2October 9, 2019 1:49 PM

Mariah actually has talent though. Madonna on the other hand...

Gimmicks all day.

r2 As if Madonna didn’t suck and fuck her way to the top. A lot of her early “boyfriends” were producers

by Anonymousreply 4October 9, 2019 1:58 PM

Madonna's nastiness at that time is on full display in "Truth or Dare."

by Anonymousreply 5October 9, 2019 2:12 PM

Madonna has admitted that she was an egomaniac during the Truth or Dare years (1989 - 1992).

Mariah was under her husband's thumb.

Was the "killy myself" quote related to a comment she made along the lines of "I'd rather have a point of view than be a note perfect singer." I think that was directed at Whitney and Mariah.

R7 It was a rude, unwarranted, and bitchy comment to make regardless. Madonna’s career was in the shitter for most of the 90s anyway

by Anonymousreply 8October 9, 2019 2:45 PM

Her career was still going great in the 1990s.

The "kill myself" comment was in 1995 during a lull in her career post "Take a Bow" and just before "Evita." Someone asked her if she wished she was Mariah Carey. Of course she's going to be a bitch when asked something like that, it was deliberately intended to be rude and get a rude response. Mariah snapped back soon after. It was just a tabloid blip and not really a big deal.

Madonna could stand to be a little more magnanimous, and a little less of a cunt.

by Anonymousreply 10October 9, 2019 2:58 PM

The comment was taken out of context, per the original interview. Madonna said that she thought Mariah was a talented vocalist but her music wasn't exactly "art" and that's what the American public loves. The interviewer asked her if she would ever sing silly pop songs like Mariah and Madonna said "I'd rather kill myself".

by Anonymousreply 11October 9, 2019 3:10 PM

I wish she HAD killed herself. We'd have been spared "Madame X."

by Anonymousreply 12October 9, 2019 3:14 PM

But Madonna had already been singing silly pop songs for a decade by then. If she was talking about Mariah's constant whiny broken heart pathetic victim sad love songs, then yes.

R11 Yes, Like A Virgin, Get Into The Groove, Holiday, Lucky Star, Everybody, Material Girl, etc. are such meaningful songs. /s
