I only watched the shows first season and loved it, but did not keep up with it after.
Did you watch? I loved Tracee!

Girlfriends was all about Toni and Maya. They were the only characters with real development. Joan was boring and Lisa Bonet-lite was a cardboard cutout from the jump.
Reggie Hayes can get it though.

I would have loved to get on my knees to service Reggie....mmmmmmmm..... what has he done since this show?

LOVED it, I've probably seen all the episodes up until Toni left the show. It was hilarious

If this were a let's be thread I would want to be the one chick's hyperactive thyroid.

He gained a ton of weight and had a recurring role on the CW's Hart of Dixie.

Oh wow, he still hashtags his photos #girlfriends. Hollywood is a tough bitch.

Tracee Ellis Ross couldn't throw him a bone and get him on the Girlfriends reunion episode of black-ish? He was an honorary girlfriend.

OMG he looks terrible but I always liked him on the show. I hated when he and Joan dated. it was awkward.
They really did Jill Marie Jones wrong though.

Agreed about Toni and Maya being the best characters! I thought Maya’s husband was so hot! He left her too abruptly though, he could’ve given her a second chance sines she only kissed someone else I think.

I loved this show. Fucking HILARIOUS. I like the later seasons better actually. I liked them all except Joan really. Tracee just doesn't do it for me. I'm sure she's a nice person but she just doesn't captivate me much.

The late night reruns were a guilty pleasure of mines

[R10]
Maya and Darnell got back together.
There was a wedding or something and they ended up in backseat of some car getting their freak on.
Word on street is actor Khalil Kain is gay, but take it for what that is worth. The guy does have two children but in not married IIRC.

Toni's husband was the hot Italian-American actor (from Staten Island, NY) Jason Pace. Snow Queen that Toni was she was also a fool to let her drama cause end of that marriage.

Toni also was involved with another hunk Tom Borden (Scott Atkinson) who was an up and coming politician.
Scott Atkinson also played the guy who came over from UK to woo his former love Daphne on Frasier

R8 He was in the episode. He showed up at the end.

I liked the reunion on blackish. They could totally reboot.

How as Jill Marie Jones "done wrong"?
She signed on for six seasons, when contract was up JMJ was done because she wanted to pursue other things.

Golden Brooks got horrible plastic surgery. She was very pretty.

Apparently Reggie had a heart attack a couple of years ago so his health hasn't been too great.
by Anonymous | reply 21 | October 13, 2019 6:47 AM |
Reggie Hayes put on more than a few pounds. Though after a heart attack one was supposed to lose weight, not gain.

So random that Kelsey Grammer was the impetus that got it started.
I loved it at the time, haven't rewatched it in a while but I remember being impressed by how they managed the comedy and drama. It's pretty slapsticky, high-octane stuff and yet also really soapy and melodramatic at times. Not easy to make that balance.
Maya was the highlight for sure. She was funny and sexy and had the best lines, Golden Brooks' performance was terrific. Supporting Actress Emmy worthy. Lynn's character was about 15 different stereotypes in one, mostly just the hippie Erykah Badu-esque character and I think the actress did a decent job with such messy writing.
Toni was an entertaining bougie bitch and I love what Jill Marie Jones did with the character. I also don't begrudge her for leaving the show. She was about 30 or so and still pretty young and GORGEOUS. They were making NO money on Girlfriends and her contract was up. I would probably have tried to seek out other work and make the most of my looks too... just a shame that nothing really came of it, career-wise for her. The recent interview sounded like she felt the same way.
I agree Joan was annoying, but I think they pushed that angle on her character, and Tracee's manic personality was the perfect fit for it. So it's a good performance for me. I remember her breakdown at Toni's wedding... "I'M HAPPY FOR MY FRIEND!" when she begins to cry. I know a lot of women like that, hahah.
Also loved Jenifer Lewis as Toni's mother. Hilarious as always.

I find Tracee Ellis Ross dreary and completely free of any charisma, even in blackish. Are we sure she is Miss Ross' daughter and not Mary! Wilson's?
