R21 I never eat salads or fruit in Egypt though surprised you got sick so quickly. I only eat cooked foods here. Surprisingly the McDonald's in Egypt are about the same quality as in the U.S., though that isn't saying much. The first few times I visited Egypt I had symptoms of food poisoning then realized I was putting hotel ice into my cocktail, which was probably made from tap water. I put a stop to that and never had a problem since.
by Anonymous | reply 27 | October 5, 2019 8:55 PM |
R17 I've never ordered koshary. So many exotic foods here, but then again, I'm not much into trying new foods. As for the weather, it is hanging around the low 90s during the day and mid-60s at night.

Working where I used to work. I've been retired for a couple of years and I'm covering someone who's out on vacation until the end of next week. They're totally throwing me a bone, sitting here, mostly, waiting for the phone to ring or an email to arrive to which I can respond because that's all they expect of me. I'm not really sure why I agreed to do it when they asked me last month, but I have a couple of unexpected expenses this month (dental bone graft, new water heater) so if I can stand the boredom for the next week or so, at least they'll be paid for.
And of course, accessing DL.

Just off the phone with Amazon. The items I ordered that were to be delivered yesterday weren't. And they lied in first message they sent last night: "We couldn't deliver your order because the building was closed."
Except 1: it's their building (Amazon Hub Lockers) and 2: it was open at 7 pm when the message was sent - lights on, people inside when I went by. So I called last night and the new excuse was "It was mis-scanned so it couldn't be delivered today." That was at 7:30 pm. So I told them to cancel the order and issue a refund - fuck 'em if they can't deliver on time and give me a consistent answer why. Then at 8:30 pm I get a message saying "Your item was delivered - you can pick it up." Except I was home by then and wouldn't be able to get back to the lockers by 9 when they close. Then I see this morning they sent me a non-apology apology message around midnight saying, "So sorry" but nothing about a refund.
They don't give a shit any more when they can't even deliver stuff to themselves for customers who pay for Prime. Neither do I. I guess it's there where it will sit. If I don't see the refund processed I'll deal with the credit card people. There's a long piece in the New Yorker this week about how much they suck. My experience (2nd time this has happened this month) is proof.

-Spent the morning and early afternoon with a dear friend, doing things my late husband(2nd anniversary today) would've loved.
-Hit a Penzey's shop on the way home. I don't do much cooking anymore, so purchased items to spice up readymadeand/or frozen foods. A big shout-out to my SIL for filling my freezer with all sorts of homemade soups, stews, chilis, etc.
-Thinking about attacking the half-slice of strawberry shortcake I doggie-bagged on Thursday. Go Ponzios!
-Telling myself I should do some sewing, there's a craft fair coming up and I thought Christmas stockings would be popular items.

Sunday morning Oct 20 6:45 am EDT on the east coast USA. Barely light out. Cold but the hard frost hasn't set in yet. I'm watching Columbo on AMZ, drink in hand and readying to freshen my bowl with some stinky buds. Been up since 2am with my 17 year old mildly senile dog. It's a nightly occurrence with him and not unusual at this late stage of his life. I pour a drink and smoke weed to cope.

I'm a night owl and don't work because I'm lazy. I suppose I should get a job soon, or at least think about it but it's so annoying to contemplate. I think about working but decide against it and spin a joint instead and chill. It's much more relaxing than doing business stuff. Corporate people are so intense.

I just finished reading an email about "mindful listening" as well as "diversity, inclusivity and belonging" from management at what was once considered the US's if not the world's greatest university, perhaps no longer so great because no one in charge was doing any listening, mindful or otherwise. But who now want the [italic]hoi polloi[/italic] to do what they did not. Uh huh. The drivel they're broadcasting would be hilarious if they weren't so damn serious - not to mention hypocritical - about it.
It's 6:30 in the morning so I'll take a shower and go into the office to spend the morning listening to others comment bitterly if sometimes hilariously on same.

I tried another British detective series on Netflix. It was SO fucking depressing. It isset in Wales, and I have never seen a poorer, more desolate, depressing place. Seriously. Who lives there? And the names of towns, the spelling is unpronounceable. They string 700 consonants together and then call someone "Hal." Really? I watched one episode through and then wanted to go slit my wrists.

I understand the City wants to close it and move the animals to the main zoo in Boston, but the local community won’t let them. It’s expensive for Boston to manage two zoos. Not all their employees will work for peanuts.

I'm in London too, watching the second season of Insatiable as I can't stream any Marple tonight.

R259 They've had a few Dame Margaret Rutherford 'Marple' shows on recently: last week, I saw a bit of "Murder at the Gallop" with her, Dame Flora Robson and the late, great Robert Morley. It seemed good fun.

R260 thank you!

You're welcome OP. Perhaps we should have a Margaret Rutherford thread. She certainly deserves one; as does the perky music in her MGM movies.

Documentary on the Chachapoyas, cleaning my kitchen and hemming and hawing whether to drive 20km (each way) for sex. If I have another glass of wine I won't be able to drive.

It's snowing, or was, lightly, on eastern Long Island. When that CT queen playing theater music/show tunes on the radio finishes at 6pm, I'll go to Two Mile Hollow beach and see what men are lurking about. Yes, even when snowing.

I am waiting for the Trump Impeachment trial stuff to begin. I know it's a waste of time and he will get off since the Republicans control the majority vote of the senate and they have already said openly they are 100% behind him. But some dark side of me just hopes something goes wrong with their fake trial and it takes him down another notch.
