[SPOILERS for IT CHAPTER 2 and THE GOLDFINCH]
Just had 2 movies in which he plays a queer character in theatres at the same time. Variety likened his performance in the latter to "a slavic androgynous Bette Davis". Does he qualify for gay icon status yet?
|by Anonymous||reply 122||Last Saturday at 2:19 AM|
Nope. You don't really become a gay icon by playing gay roles. Also, how many male gay icons are there?
|by Anonymous||reply 1||10/05/2019|
Well, I guess it depends on your definition. Currently, Timothee Chalamet comes to mind.
|by Anonymous||reply 2||10/05/2019|
I felt he sucked in The Goldfinch.
|by Anonymous||reply 3||10/05/2019|
R2 Good point. Wolfhard's not Chalamet though... and Goldfinch is no CMBYN.
|by Anonymous||reply 5||10/05/2019|
I haven't seen Goldinch yet and I did not know Finn plays gay in it. Is there a kiss?
|by Anonymous||reply 6||10/05/2019|
You can see a kiss in the trailer.
|by Anonymous||reply 7||10/05/2019|
But the question is: Is he really gay?
|by Anonymous||reply 8||10/05/2019|
R6: There is a kiss, but none of them play a gay character
|by Anonymous||reply 9||10/05/2019|
What’s a “queer” character OP? You mean gay?
|by Anonymous||reply 10||10/05/2019|
He's got a face of an Ukrainian cleaning lady.
|by Anonymous||reply 11||10/05/2019|
I know some people on DL are allergic to the word, but I used it deliberately, since his character in IT is gay, but his character in The Goldfinch is bisexual or just bicurious - so "queer" is useful as an umbrella term in this case.
|by Anonymous||reply 12||10/05/2019|
He’s hideous. You have terrible taste, OP.
|by Anonymous||reply 13||10/05/2019|
I'd say he's a textbook example of "joli laid".
|by Anonymous||reply 14||10/05/2019|
Hes a famous kid. Hes getting more pussy than a kid should at that age no matter what he looks like. GO FINN!
|by Anonymous||reply 15||10/05/2019|
[quote]he's a textbook example of "joli laid".
With an emphasis on the latter.
|by Anonymous||reply 16||10/05/2019|
He is an actor, you don't need to be handsome to be a good actor
|by Anonymous||reply 17||10/06/2019|
[quote] He's getting more pussy than a kid should at that age no matter what he looks like
(Saying this agnostically, there's no indication either way at this point.)
|by Anonymous||reply 18||10/06/2019|
[quote] , but his character in The Goldfinch is bisexual or just bicurious - so "queer" is useful as an umbrella term in this case.
Do you have a problem with the word [bold]bisexual[/bold] that were unable to say it the first time?
|by Anonymous||reply 19||10/06/2019|
I wanted to use one word that fits both characters, r19. (I guess I could have gone with LGBT, but Finn hasn't played any trans characters or lesbians yet...). "Queer" has been used like this by gay men for ages, so I don't know why we have to debate it anew everytime someone uses it on DL.
|by Anonymous||reply 20||10/06/2019|
Not sure which 70s rock star he should play but he should play one of them.
|by Anonymous||reply 21||10/06/2019|
R19 He can't use the world bisexual because any of the characters is bisexual. His character in It is gay, his character in The goldfinch experiments with his friend (and that's all)
|by Anonymous||reply 22||10/06/2019|
He needs to get a nose job.
|by Anonymous||reply 23||10/06/2019|
Why stop with the nose? He needs a whole face job.
|by Anonymous||reply 24||10/06/2019|
His character is not gay in It.
|by Anonymous||reply 25||10/06/2019|
Why surgery to look exactly like the other thousands of young actors in HW when your career is going perfectly fine
R25: Wrong, his character is gay in It. It's not canon in the novel (where the sexuality of his character is not touched) but Stephen King was very happy with that change
|by Anonymous||reply 26||10/06/2019|
R26 Except, it is only fucking moron queers insisting the character is gay, but please, link to scene in the film where the character says they are gay
|by Anonymous||reply 27||10/06/2019|
R27: Even Stephen King acknoledge the character is gay in the film version.
And no, it's not a fucking moron queer thing, it was published by several newspapers
|by Anonymous||reply 28||10/06/2019|
[quote] I wanted to use one word that fits both characters,
You can not use one word to describe both sexualities because it does not exist.
|by Anonymous||reply 29||10/06/2019|
R28 So, why is it so hard to link to the scene in the film when it is stated the character is homosexual. Just do it
|by Anonymous||reply 30||10/06/2019|
I really don't know why you're being so obtuse, r30. Just because nobody says it out loud in the film doesn't mean it's not clear.
There's a scene where Richie is hyper keen to hang out with a cute boy (a character that only exists for the purpose of this scene) and gets homophobically bullied for it, after which Pennywise taunts him that he knows his "dirty secret". What do you think the "dirty secret" is supposed to be?
Then we see him carving initials into a bench on the "kissing bridge", which at the end are revealed to be his and Eddie's. What do you think was the point of this?
|by Anonymous||reply 31||10/07/2019|
I think he's a very glamorous and so far successful art boy. You eldergays probably never went for this type and they are decades below your dating pool, now, anyway.
|by Anonymous||reply 32||10/07/2019|
R33: He will be 17 in december, and nobody is making sexual comments about him
|by Anonymous||reply 34||10/07/2019|
He has a bird like face, kinda snouty. I have a better looking cousin that looks like him.
|by Anonymous||reply 35||10/07/2019|
Well, looking not conventional is generally an advantage, you are different from the rest.
Even for a model is and advantage. The guy was lucky to be on Stranger things and he is making a career.
|by Anonymous||reply 36||10/07/2019|
I didnt recognize him in those pics as the kid in ST. Looks like he already got a nose job.
|by Anonymous||reply 37||10/07/2019|
[quote] Not sure which 70s rock star he should play but he should play one of them.
Here's one option, I guess...
|by Anonymous||reply 38||10/08/2019|
Im getting a Richard Ashcroft of The Verve vibe from him.
|by Anonymous||reply 39||10/08/2019|
hmmmm... why do we have a thread about this teenager?
Why is OP doing this?
|by Anonymous||reply 44||10/21/2019|
Why wouldn't we, r44? We have threads about 1000s of people, many of them infinitely less relevant.
|by Anonymous||reply 45||10/21/2019|
This guy is 16 years of age, but you already know this. You also know that this thread was clearly done for fangurling and not about his gay/Bi characters.
|by Anonymous||reply 46||10/21/2019|
GAY MEN are TALKING about a guy who is UNDER THE AGE OF CONSENT IN CALIFORNIA, can someone please alert the authorities?!
|by Anonymous||reply 47||10/21/2019|
R46 Won't somebody please think of the children! No! Not like that!
|by Anonymous||reply 48||10/21/2019|
This is obviously just speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was dating that androgynous aboriginal model guy he's hanging out with so much (they're starting a clothing line together).
Either that or some indie rocker girl, would be my guess.
|by Anonymous||reply 49||10/29/2019|
His band, Calpurnia, has split up.
I guess his acting schedule doesn't leave him much time for other projects right now, but I'm surprised he didn't just put the band on hiatus.
|by Anonymous||reply 50||11/10/2019|
Never mind, this guy is apparently a family friend, so this seems less likely after all.
|by Anonymous||reply 51||11/15/2019|
Why does that make it less likely?
|by Anonymous||reply 52||11/15/2019|
He says he's known Finn since birth, so they probably see each other like brothers, and that explains why they're so close.
|by Anonymous||reply 53||11/15/2019|
Turns out he's already got a new band - a duo with the drummer from Calpurnia - called the Aubreys (though he hasn't officially revealed yet that it's him).
|by Anonymous||reply 54||11/15/2019|
His photoshoot for Interview is wild.
|by Anonymous||reply 55||12/10/2019|
This troll, Ed Sheeran, Post Malone
2019 has the ugliest male stars
|by Anonymous||reply 57||12/23/2019|
Finn's mother was asked how she would describe him in an interview she was sitting in on (off-screen), and she went for "intense", lol.
|by Anonymous||reply 58||01/13/2020|
He is a very good-looking jewish boy.
He gives me young Bob Dylan vibes.
|by Anonymous||reply 59||01/13/2020|
He gives me the creeps. He reminds me of Ezra Miller, but he's even more androgynous and much less attractive.
|by Anonymous||reply 60||01/13/2020|
Place of Birth: Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Date of Birth: December 23, 2002
Ethnicity: Ashkenazi Jewish (one quarter), German, Scandinavian, Welsh, Irish
Finn Wolfhard is a Canadian actor and musician. He is known for starring in the show Stranger Things and the films It (2017) and It Chapter Two
|by Anonymous||reply 61||01/13/2020|
Yeah, if they were making that Bob Dylan biopic Timothee Chalamet's doing a few years later, he would have been perfect for it.
|by Anonymous||reply 62||01/14/2020|
He seems to be growing into his looks.
|by Anonymous||reply 63||01/14/2020|
Still Jewish enough to have been persecuted by the Nazis, or to get Israeli citizenship if he felt so inclined; so we're claiming him.
|by Anonymous||reply 65||01/14/2020|
Finn is the kind of guy that straight girls go WILD for.
Sort of Mick Jaggerish, with weird looks, a thin frame, and a mysterious aura about them.
Personally, I find him ugly and goofy looking.
But then again, I'm sure he gives zero fucks what I think of him. Rightly so.
|by Anonymous||reply 66||01/15/2020|
WHO dressed him for the photoshoot at R55???
He looks ridiculous.
|by Anonymous||reply 67||01/15/2020|
He kind of looks like Tommy Lee at R67's link. He is growing into his looks.
|by Anonymous||reply 68||01/15/2020|
When I think of the name "Finn Wolfhard," I will only ever think of this.
|by Anonymous||reply 69||01/15/2020|
Music video from his new band (song is from the soundtrack for his new film, The Turning).
|by Anonymous||reply 70||01/17/2020|
I could see him as Tiny Tim.
|by Anonymous||reply 71||01/17/2020|
Wasn't his former agent let go from the agency over paedophilic exploits?
|by Anonymous||reply 72||01/17/2020|
He reminds me of a young Marc Bolan.
|by Anonymous||reply 73||01/17/2020|
Young Marc Bolan? I don't see it. At all.
|by Anonymous||reply 74||01/17/2020|
It’s the hair and swishy rock star persona.
|by Anonymous||reply 75||01/17/2020|
I see more Chrissie Hynde than Bolan.
|by Anonymous||reply 78||01/17/2020|
Finn is fine as a straight man here, but what an abysmally unfunny skit. Is this the kind of comedy zoomers like?
|by Anonymous||reply 82||01/18/2020|
Finn listed the Safdie Brothers among his "mentors" (along with the Duffer Brothers and Andy Muschienetti) - I didn't even know they knew each other. Perhaps he's going to be in their next film?
|by Anonymous||reply 83||01/28/2020|
Funny you should mention him.
I just walked out of my screening of his new movie [italic]Omniboat[/italic] at Sundance.
It's a painfully unfunny "comedy" obviously written by stoners while high. Or should I say half-baked?
Finn played a Jewish kid whose crazy uncle takes him out of school to go boating and they run into Luther Campbell of 2 Live Crew. There are no jokes, embarrassing moments.
I left one sequence after Finn's it was so lame. I think they were trying to be [italic]Kentucky Fried Movie[/italic] or [italic]Amazon Women on the Moon,[/italic] but those movies had actual jokes. You can't just introduce "objectivesexuals," then have one lick a speedboat and call it a day.
Don't waste your time!
|by Anonymous||reply 84||01/28/2020|
Just directed his first short film.
|by Anonymous||reply 85||02/11/2020|
He looks like a POW transvestite.
|by Anonymous||reply 86||02/11/2020|
R85 Is that the one he got his fans to pay for rather than spend any of his own money on it?
|by Anonymous||reply 87||02/11/2020|
No because none of his roles have been explicitly gay. Androgyny and implication don't count.
|by Anonymous||reply 88||02/11/2020|
[Quote] Is that the one he got his fans to pay for rather than spend any of his own money on it?
|by Anonymous||reply 89||02/11/2020|
r91 I don't think I've ever actually been repulsed by cheekbones before now.
|by Anonymous||reply 92||02/24/2020|
Finn Wolfhard will never be a gay icon because he’s not hot.
But he has become Hollywood’s newest Scream Queen, if PG-13 horror is your bag.
|by Anonymous||reply 93||02/24/2020|
He's jolie-laide. Sexy ugly.
|by Anonymous||reply 94||02/24/2020|
Finn was in a truly terrible, laugh-free “comedy” at Sundance this year called [italic]Omniboat: A Fast Boat Fantasia[/italic] about a motor boat that falls in love, marries a monster truck, has boat children and then gets involved with all kinds of shenanigans with various humans.
It was very Stoner Comedy, only it wasn’t funny. Comedians have to do more than just act weird or embarrassing. They need to write jokes.
Anyway, Wolfhard plays a Jewish kid whose crazy uncle takes him on a wild boat ride on the eve of Wolfhard’s bar mitzvah. They crash a party being held by 2 Live Crew’s Luther Campbell. Not even funny dialogue.
I left halfway through the movie, shortly after Wolfhard’s sequence.and some “objectosexual” lady started licking the boat.
|by Anonymous||reply 95||02/24/2020|
[italic]The Turning[/italic] was also a waste of time with no real payoff.
Although I did think Wolfhard came across as sexy and he had a few good lines.
|by Anonymous||reply 96||02/24/2020|
Did everyone catch Wolfhard starring in the video for Weezer’s cover of “Take On Me?”
I think Weezer believes Finn is their ticket to relevance these days.
|by Anonymous||reply 97||02/24/2020|
I didn’t realize I already posted my review @ r84.
|by Anonymous||reply 98||02/24/2020|
Ezra Miller, Chalamet and this kid are the biggest ratfaces in movies. this kid though has potential to grow into his face but also has potential to look like a creepo who will get cast for roles that cillian murphy ages out of.
|by Anonymous||reply 99||02/24/2020|
There’s nothing sexy about any of them...
|by Anonymous||reply 100||02/25/2020|
That short film he's in that's gonna premiere at SXSW, "Rules for Werewolves", is now being turned into a feature.
|by Anonymous||reply 101||02/29/2020|
The creepiest scene from The Turning trailer with Finn and the spider wasn't even in the movie. The movie must have been butchered in the editing room.
|by Anonymous||reply 102||02/29/2020|
Kind of resembles a young Linda Evangelista
|by Anonymous||reply 103||02/29/2020|
Howard Stern said Finn is "getting disturbing-looking" today. LOL!
|by Anonymous||reply 104||03/12/2020|
"Does he qualify for gay icon status yet?" - Not if he plays "queer" characters because they have nothing to do with being gay.
|by Anonymous||reply 105||03/12/2020|
""Queer" has been used like this by gay men for ages" - No it hasn't, r20.
|by Anonymous||reply 106||03/12/2020|
He’s unpleasant to look at. He’s one reason I stopped watching Stranger Things. The girl with the hollowed our cheekbones is another.
|by Anonymous||reply 108||03/12/2020|
Howard is in no position to lecture anyone about looks.
|by Anonymous||reply 109||03/12/2020|
Honestly Howard Stern is pretty much what I assume Finn Wolfhard is going to look like in about 30+ years. They've got the same hair and general face shape.
|by Anonymous||reply 110||03/12/2020|
Am I the only one who thinks he's getting better looking as he ages?
|by Anonymous||reply 112||03/12/2020|
Looking quite grown-up now.
|by Anonymous||reply 113||04/08/2020|
Good to see that he's growing into his nose
|by Anonymous||reply 114||04/08/2020|
Oscar winner Julianne Moore and [italic]Stranger Things[/italic] star Finn Wolfhard are attached to star in buzzy new comedy-drama movie [italic]When You Finish Saving the World[/italic], which Jesse Eisenberg has written and will direct and which Emma Stone will produce with SNL writer-director Dave McCary and Moore.
CAA Media Finance, which is arranging financing for the film, will rep world distribution rights. The mother-son story is inspired by Eisenberg’s upcoming Audible Original of the same name, which we can reveal is debuting this year.
The movie, whose precise plot details are being kept under wraps, will have a slightly different focus than the audiobook, which has been scripted by and stars Eisenberg. Set over three decades, the six-part audio show will follow three members of a family: Nathan, a father learning to connect with his newborn son; Rachel, a young college student seeking to find her place in a relationship and in life; and Ziggy, a teenager hoping to figure out where he came from, and where he’s headed. Wolfhard will also voice the show and Kaitlyn Dever is in talks to join.

[quote Jesse Eisenberg has written and will direct and which Emma Stone will produce with SNL writer-director Dave McCary and Moore.
Is this kid incapable of attaching himself to films that aren't critical and commercial disasters?
|by Anonymous||reply 116||04/10/2020|
Ha, apparently he's into Dasha from the controversial politics podcast "Red Scare"; he follows her Instagram account and liked this nude pic.
|by Anonymous||reply 117||05/04/2020|
Yes, you are, r112.
Howard Stern recently said on his show that Finn is "growing increasingly disturbing looking."
|by Anonymous||reply 118||05/04/2020|
That's rather ironic, because the absolute worst thing you could say about Finn's looks is that he resembles a cuter version of a young Howard Stern.
|by Anonymous||reply 119||05/04/2020|
[quote] Finn is a great musician. He’s just born cool. I don’t know if you’ve ever been intimidated by someone 18 years younger than you, but that was what meeting Finn was like.
|by Anonymous||reply 120||05/05/2020|
[quote] I’m lying about 90 per cent of what I’m talking about in interviews”
So Finns a shit musician then.
|by Anonymous||reply 121||05/05/2020|
The lyrics of this song fit so well with his part in "The Goldfinch", surely it was a conscious inspiration?
