Finn Wolfhard

[SPOILERS for IT CHAPTER 2 and THE GOLDFINCH]

-

Just had 2 movies in which he plays a queer character in theatres at the same time. Variety likened his performance in the latter to "a slavic androgynous Bette Davis". Does he qualify for gay icon status yet?

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 132December 24, 2020 9:16 PM

Nope. You don't really become a gay icon by playing gay roles. Also, how many male gay icons are there?

by Anonymousreply 1October 5, 2019 4:01 PM

r1

Well, I guess it depends on your definition. Currently, Timothee Chalamet comes to mind.

by Anonymousreply 2October 5, 2019 4:04 PM

I felt he sucked in The Goldfinch.

by Anonymousreply 3October 5, 2019 4:06 PM

He's hard to look at.

by Anonymousreply 4October 5, 2019 4:53 PM

R2 Good point. Wolfhard's not Chalamet though... and Goldfinch is no CMBYN.

by Anonymousreply 5October 5, 2019 4:54 PM

I haven't seen Goldinch yet and I did not know Finn plays gay in it. Is there a kiss?

by Anonymousreply 6October 5, 2019 7:26 PM

You can see a kiss in the trailer.

by Anonymousreply 7October 5, 2019 7:35 PM

But the question is: Is he really gay?

by Anonymousreply 8October 5, 2019 7:39 PM

R6: There is a kiss, but none of them play a gay character

by Anonymousreply 9October 5, 2019 7:41 PM

What’s a “queer” character OP? You mean gay?

by Anonymousreply 10October 5, 2019 7:59 PM

He's got a face of an Ukrainian cleaning lady.

by Anonymousreply 11October 5, 2019 8:01 PM

r10

I know some people on DL are allergic to the word, but I used it deliberately, since his character in IT is gay, but his character in The Goldfinch is bisexual or just bicurious - so "queer" is useful as an umbrella term in this case.

by Anonymousreply 12October 5, 2019 9:27 PM

He’s hideous. You have terrible taste, OP.

by Anonymousreply 13October 5, 2019 9:40 PM

I'd say he's a textbook example of "joli laid".

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 14October 6, 2019 1:48 AM

Hes a famous kid. Hes getting more pussy than a kid should at that age no matter what he looks like. GO FINN!

by Anonymousreply 15October 6, 2019 2:00 AM

[quote]he's a textbook example of "joli laid".

With an emphasis on the latter.

by Anonymousreply 16October 6, 2019 2:19 AM

He is an actor, you don't need to be handsome to be a good actor

by Anonymousreply 17October 6, 2019 10:23 AM

[quote] He's getting more pussy than a kid should at that age no matter what he looks like

Or dick/ass.

(Saying this agnostically, there's no indication either way at this point.)

by Anonymousreply 18October 6, 2019 2:48 PM

[quote] , but his character in The Goldfinch is bisexual or just bicurious - so "queer" is useful as an umbrella term in this case.

Do you have a problem with the word [bold]bisexual[/bold] that were unable to say it the first time?

by Anonymousreply 19October 6, 2019 3:00 PM

I wanted to use one word that fits both characters, r19. (I guess I could have gone with LGBT, but Finn hasn't played any trans characters or lesbians yet...). "Queer" has been used like this by gay men for ages, so I don't know why we have to debate it anew everytime someone uses it on DL.

by Anonymousreply 20October 6, 2019 6:58 PM

Not sure which 70s rock star he should play but he should play one of them.

by Anonymousreply 21October 6, 2019 7:10 PM

R19 He can't use the world bisexual because any of the characters is bisexual. His character in It is gay, his character in The goldfinch experiments with his friend (and that's all)

by Anonymousreply 22October 6, 2019 7:58 PM

He needs to get a nose job.

by Anonymousreply 23October 6, 2019 8:22 PM

Why stop with the nose? He needs a whole face job.

by Anonymousreply 24October 6, 2019 8:23 PM

His character is not gay in It.

by Anonymousreply 25October 6, 2019 8:25 PM

Why surgery to look exactly like the other thousands of young actors in HW when your career is going perfectly fine

R25: Wrong, his character is gay in It. It's not canon in the novel (where the sexuality of his character is not touched) but Stephen King was very happy with that change

by Anonymousreply 26October 6, 2019 8:45 PM

R26 Except, it is only fucking moron queers insisting the character is gay, but please, link to scene in the film where the character says they are gay

by Anonymousreply 27October 6, 2019 8:48 PM

R27: Even Stephen King acknoledge the character is gay in the film version.

And no, it's not a fucking moron queer thing, it was published by several newspapers

by Anonymousreply 28October 6, 2019 8:50 PM

[quote] I wanted to use one word that fits both characters,

You can not use one word to describe both sexualities because it does not exist.

by Anonymousreply 29October 6, 2019 9:51 PM

R28 So, why is it so hard to link to the scene in the film when it is stated the character is homosexual. Just do it

by Anonymousreply 30October 6, 2019 11:52 PM

I really don't know why you're being so obtuse, r30. Just because nobody says it out loud in the film doesn't mean it's not clear.

There's a scene where Richie is hyper keen to hang out with a cute boy (a character that only exists for the purpose of this scene) and gets homophobically bullied for it, after which Pennywise taunts him that he knows his "dirty secret". What do you think the "dirty secret" is supposed to be?

Then we see him carving initials into a bench on the "kissing bridge", which at the end are revealed to be his and Eddie's. What do you think was the point of this?

by Anonymousreply 31October 7, 2019 10:35 AM

I think he's a very glamorous and so far successful art boy. You eldergays probably never went for this type and they are decades below your dating pool, now, anyway.

by Anonymousreply 32October 7, 2019 11:40 AM

Isn’t he like 12? Gross.

by Anonymousreply 33October 7, 2019 4:28 PM

R33: He will be 17 in december, and nobody is making sexual comments about him

by Anonymousreply 34October 7, 2019 5:36 PM

He has a bird like face, kinda snouty. I have a better looking cousin that looks like him.

by Anonymousreply 35October 7, 2019 5:44 PM

Well, looking not conventional is generally an advantage, you are different from the rest.

Even for a model is and advantage. The guy was lucky to be on Stranger things and he is making a career.

by Anonymousreply 36October 7, 2019 5:47 PM

I didnt recognize him in those pics as the kid in ST. Looks like he already got a nose job.

by Anonymousreply 37October 7, 2019 7:50 PM

This is obviously just speculation, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was dating that androgynous aboriginal model guy he's hanging out with so much (they're starting a clothing line together).

Either that or some indie rocker girl, would be my guess.

by Anonymousreply 49October 29, 2019 8:19 PM

by Anonymousreply 65January 14, 2020 8:28 PM

Finn is the kind of guy that straight girls go WILD for.

Finn listed the Safdie Brothers among his "mentors" (along with the Duffer Brothers and Andy Muschienetti) - I didn't even know they knew each other. Perhaps he's going to be in their next film?

by Anonymousreply 83January 29, 2020 7:16 AM

Funny you should mention him.

I just walked out of my screening of his new movie [italic]Omniboat[/italic] at Sundance.

It's a painfully unfunny "comedy" obviously written by stoners while high. Or should I say half-baked?

Finn played a Jewish kid whose crazy uncle takes him out of school to go boating and they run into Luther Campbell of 2 Live Crew. There are no jokes, embarrassing moments.

I left one sequence after Finn's it was so lame. I think they were trying to be [italic]Kentucky Fried Movie[/italic] or [italic]Amazon Women on the Moon,[/italic] but those movies had actual jokes. You can't just introduce "objectivesexuals," then have one lick a speedboat and call it a day.

Don't waste your time!

Finn Wolfhard will never be a gay icon because he’s not hot.

But he has become Hollywood’s newest Scream Queen, if PG-13 horror is your bag.

by Anonymousreply 93February 24, 2020 9:42 PM

He's jolie-laide. Sexy ugly.

by Anonymousreply 94February 24, 2020 9:44 PM

Finn was in a truly terrible, laugh-free “comedy” at Sundance this year called [italic]Omniboat: A Fast Boat Fantasia[/italic] about a motor boat that falls in love, marries a monster truck, has boat children and then gets involved with all kinds of shenanigans with various humans.

It was very Stoner Comedy, only it wasn’t funny. Comedians have to do more than just act weird or embarrassing. They need to write jokes.

Anyway, Wolfhard plays a Jewish kid whose crazy uncle takes him on a wild boat ride on the eve of Wolfhard’s bar mitzvah. They crash a party being held by 2 Live Crew’s Luther Campbell. Not even funny dialogue.

I left halfway through the movie, shortly after Wolfhard’s sequence.and some “objectosexual” lady started licking the boat.

Hated it!

by Anonymousreply 95February 24, 2020 10:26 PM

Oscar winner Julianne Moore and [italic]Stranger Things[/italic] star Finn Wolfhard are attached to star in buzzy new comedy-drama movie [italic]When You Finish Saving the World[/italic], which Jesse Eisenberg has written and will direct and which Emma Stone will produce with SNL writer-director Dave McCary and Moore.

CAA Media Finance, which is arranging financing for the film, will rep world distribution rights. The mother-son story is inspired by Eisenberg’s upcoming Audible Original of the same name, which we can reveal is debuting this year.

The movie, whose precise plot details are being kept under wraps, will have a slightly different focus than the audiobook, which has been scripted by and stars Eisenberg. Set over three decades, the six-part audio show will follow three members of a family: Nathan, a father learning to connect with his newborn son; Rachel, a young college student seeking to find her place in a relationship and in life; and Ziggy, a teenager hoping to figure out where he came from, and where he’s headed. Wolfhard will also voice the show and Kaitlyn Dever is in talks to join.

He's now doing one of those fan videochat things as well, charging them 200 bucks for it. I know it's supposed to be a substitute for those conventions actors like him do all the time, but something about it makes it feel sleazy and grubby in a way those don't (or at least not as much).

by Anonymousreply 128November 9, 2020 5:56 PM
