Republicans were coming off the bruising they'd received from the Nixon/Watergate scandal, so they did what they do best: character assassination and Carter was their first victim. Their solution: elect a senile B movie star who could be easily controlled and manipulated by the Republican/right wing powers that be. It didn't hurt Reagan's chances that his cunt wife was the blow job queen of Hollywood.

He lusted in his heart.

I was a Teddy Kennedy supporter. I was young and arrogant and thought Carter was an ignorant cracker. I recall his bungling of the Iran hostage crisis that ultimately brought us Ronald Reagan (ugh). I came to appreciate him after he left office. I especially admire his work for Habitat for Humanity.

IMO, Jimmy Carter was one of the most decent, honest men to be elected president. I think that he is a very good person, a good soul. He was not a good president. Too compassionate, gave away too much. Sometimes a tough bastard is better for the job. The one that I would have liked to have won was Barry Goldwater. Too late now .................

I remember when he went rafting and was attacked by a bunny.

I was born during the Carter Administration. I attribute my best qualities to this, like others talk about their zodiac signs.

I remember the attack of the killer rabbit too and what hay the press made out of that. Carter was perceived as not being strong internationally so people carped that even gentle bunnies were unafraid of him. I also remember Roslyn's coat for the Inaugural Parade. It was tough times for the country financially, so she was making a wise decision to wear something she already owned. But she was excoriated for it. When Nancy Reagan wore her fire engine red coat, conservatives exulted that at least now we had a First Lady who knew how to dress.

So does R8.

Jimmy was one of the most decent and honest men ever. He also had a lot of pain and struggle throughout his brief presidency. Despite that, he had a good heart, which is hard to encounter in Washington. At a time when the nation was suffering beyond belief, they initially identified with his struggles and he theirs.

Scooby Doo can doo-doo, but Jimmy Carter is smarter. x

Jimmy Carter's presidency seems like it was heaven on earth compared with our current nightmare of avarice and corruption.

He wanted to decriminalize marijuana, he supported gay rights and was for the conservation of energy as well as many other common sense ideas.

He kissed me! But I'm royalty. You don't kiss royalty!
by Anonymous | reply 22 | October 2, 2019 1:36 AM |
He kissed me too Mrs Kennedy. And I AM royalty.
by Anonymous | reply 23 | October 2, 2019 1:37 AM |
He's not bad for a Christian. Even supported gay marriage. Not the greatest president but a good man nonetheless.

I love Jimmy Carter. He is one of the only presidents we've ever had, in fact IMO, the only president we've ever had who is a truly good person. Even Obama is not spending his post WH years helping the poor. Hell, he never helped them when he was president so why now. But Obama is a saint compared to the orange monster so I can't even think of what the orange monster is compared to such a good person like Carter.
Jimmy Carter also helped humanity in general by allowing them to do a kind dangerous experimental treatment on him for melanoma that could have killed him and it worked and not only is he cancer free but so many others can be helped thanks to his bravery.
Don't forget he was fucked over by Reagan and his pretend hostage crap and bullshit welfare queen garbage and the Kennedy 3rd party shit. I loved Ted Kennedy as the Lion of the Senate but he should not have handed Reagan the win since a lot of the horror going on today is thanks to Reagan and his fucking religious right. Reagan opened the door to bringing back racism long before Trump was in the picture.
I hope Jimmy lives another 20 years at least.

On a road trip to Disney world from Texas, my parents made a big detour to Plains, Georgia where we bought bags of peanuts, Billy Beer, and took pictures of some gas station (Billy’s, maybe?). It was In July and so damn hot.

Carter was Mattie Stepanek's hero. Jimmy spoke at his funeral. " We have known kings and queens, presidents and prime ministers, but...."
