Mr. Puerto Rico looks like someone sent in by Central Casting for the part of a young prison gang member. As a Puerto Rican, I was surprised because they take pageants pretty seriously here and - well - I could at any given day see 10 Puerto Rican guys just on the left side of my car who are way hotter than him. So I did a little research and found this:

Men doing this pageant stuff looks stupid and weird.   Women look ridiculous too, but we've gotten used to women doing it--and it's still dumb.

Men doing something like the Mr.  Leather contest is silly, but it's a fetish, sort of a niche type of thing.  However, when it's a mainstream male "beauty" contest, it's cringe-worthy.

I think the Swede is the hottest. Despite that awful costume, he’s adorable. Plus I bet he’s uncut.

Mr. South Africa, DR, and Haiti are all stunningly gorgeous, as are their costumes. Everybody else (except for Tunisia) is okay. USA is perfectly reflecting of our current times, ie that we’re a country in decline.

I don’t see the point of voting. The pageant has been over for more than a week (Korea won). The guys are back at their studio apartments/childhood bedrooms, and the costumes are in pieces on some Halloween pile.

Honestly, I don’t see what Mr USA could have worn in today’s climate of political correctness and cultural appropriation. Most of these costumes were native styled, if he had worn a Native American one he would have been pilloried. I guess he could have dressed as a cowboy or Uncle Sam. He just tried to play it safe so he wouldn’t become an internet hate figure. I’m surprised Mr South Africa hasn’t been condemned for his costume since it is clearly native inspired and he appears white.

R64, there is no such thing as blackface in South Africa or this strange American obsession with heritage. Mixed race people are called coloreds in South Africa, it’s a legitimate race there.

Well it wouldn't make sense to say "ok, this is the national costume and you don't racially match that, so we have a problem" if the guys don't even racially match the countries they come from. E.g. the guy from Sri Lanka, Portugal etc. Making a fuss about it would be much worse than not making a fuss about it.
