This was great. I’m not a huge fan of Sheryl Crow, but I thought she was flawless on her performance.
by Anonymous | reply 14 | September 23, 2019 3:09 AM |
Aretha yes- Liza- well if you like choreographed hot mama moves adopted from other performers and a wobbly vibrato that goes a full half note flat on every note she holds- it’s great. But kind of ugly. To me she’s always playing the red hot singer as opposed to her Mom who was the red hot singer and never went flat (in her prime) when belting. Aretha is a musical and vocal genius and mimicking no one while completely owning a Puccini aria for a tenor!

Another vote for a Sheryl Crow performance. I hadn't thought she was a great singer until I heard this version. She slays it. Her timing and phrasing is impeccable.
And, damn, Alanis killed that version in OP's threat. You Oughtta Know can't be an easy song to put across live, she is fantastic. I saw her at a small hall in Nashville on he first tour (328, for those who are from here) and I wish ended up sitting at the bar with a friend and barely paid attention to the show . I wish I had watched more of it. Who knew she was going to become Alanis?

Sydney Lucas as small Alison was a revelation in the musical Fun Home. There was nothing childish in her performance, just an actress and singer in peak control of her craft, breaking your heart with her performance and then putting it all back together. by Anonymous | reply 80 | September 25, 2019 6:56 PM |
R79 no worries, she did have to actually sing the song for them to do the play back for lip syncing.

R80 damn, she’s goose bumps incredible. Is that even a sentence?
by Anonymous | reply 82 | September 25, 2019 7:03 PM |
Alright then, Whitney denier R78. See what you can say about this. She didn't need to lip synch. She seldom EVER did, even as her voice failed her later in her career. Whitney always stood tall and did her best. But all versions of the Star Spangled Banner were pre recorded back then. It was during the Gulf War and there could be no mistakes. Whitney's version was so extraordinary that it became a Billboard top ten hit recording. Twice. (again after Sept. 11) She and Rickey Minor arranged it themselves. The Super Bowl broadcasters wanted them to change it - it was too gospel and the tempo had been slowed down to 4/4 time. Some said it was "sacreligious." Houston refused. The rest is history. The single went platinum, btw. Her pre recorded vocal was not intended to ever be released. The public demanded it. All proceeds were donated to The Red Cross.
by Anonymous | reply 83 | September 25, 2019 8:06 PM |
Even if you don't love the song, the young Whitney was ASTOUNDING.

Bettye Lavette singing The Who's "Love Reign O'er Me" at the Kennedy Center.
Look for cutaways to Daltrey and Townsend in the audience.

I can watch this on repeat for hours.
From the comments: She was portraying death and the disease that took Freddy and the battle he fought.....Her silver top represents armor he needed to fight physically and mentally what he endured from the disease and media and the black was death and the AIDS virus.....they are both singing one man's song. Bowie represents Freddys life and Annie is death and disease and at the end they become one just as the disease took over Freddy singing "this is our last dance and this is ourselves, under pressure." an emotional way of portraying Freddy's last days when living with media rumors of his sexuality and health and finally admitting defeat to the disease that took his life. A beautiful expression of a wonderful entertainer that we will all miss....bravo

I enjoy all kinds of performers. But ancient fags who dismiss Beyonce as a booty shaker know nothing about singing or vocal production R157. Beyonce IS one of the greatest LIVE performers in the world today. She has been at the pinnacle for some time. Save your correction for that 60 year old "millennial" who loves Springsteen and Bryan Adams. Any gay who uses words like "bootyshaker" is already on the back porch. Take a seat grampa.
Beyonce is represented all over this thread because she consistently delivers great vocal performances. LIVE. Keep your gay racism to yourself Miss Millenial of 1955.

Don't waste your energies on the racist eldergays, R158. They love to diminish every notable performer of color except for the handful they deem worthy of their patronizing approval. R140 That is an AMAZINGLY soulful version of Defying Gravity. Funny how that's known as Idina Menzel's song since she originated the Elphaba role, but Shoshana arguably sings the song better.
by Anonymous | reply 172 | October 6, 2019 3:30 AM |
But of course Shoshana also played Elphaba R172. But R140 is a mashup of two songs. Are you being purposefully obtuse or just confused? Shoshana often oversings...but when she keeps it bluesy, girl can SANG. She's a great performer. Menzel ain't all that.

The best blues (and rock) singer in the world is a California chick who gets no love at home. Beth Hart is the real deal. A star all around the world. She has an incredible voice and a deep and dangerous understanding. The band ain't bad either.

Yes R173, I know Shoshana played Elphaba too - that's why I specified that Idina originated the role. And no, I am not being obtuse, I'm just stating that Shoshana makes the song her own. Sheesh.

Clarkson gave new meaning and heartache to No Doubts "Don't Speak." Gorgeous singing. She sang her ass off - even if her voice gets ragged. It's intimate and heartfelt, beautiful and ballsy beyond belief. She's shouty and raspy AND a shimmering soprano all in one. Kelly's in love with music. She's doesn't sing perfectly, but she's the best singer in the game.

Sara has sung this song many times now - most always accompanying herself on the piano. Lots of other girl singers have sung it too - from the musical. But this is unusually beautiful singing. In the zone. Sarah has rise and fall and a lovely sense of lyric and melody with beautiful dynamics & real emotion. Those l o n g notes and straight on singing. A best and beautiful performance.

Leontyne Price "O Patria Mia!" from AIDA, in her signature role.
This was her last performance at the Metropolitan Opera (and in any staged opera). Gorgeously phrased, emotional for anyone who knew her trail-blazing career.
This aria and the 4-minute ovation afterwards (and 4 minutes is a long time) are constantly voted the best moment ever on PBS.
by Anonymous | reply 202 | October 7, 2019 6:11 PM |
^ the consummate professional, she tries to keep her composure during the applause. The audience had heard this would be her last performance and she was singing the aria she was most known for (difficult as hell, few sopranos can do it justice).
At 9:02, you can see it getting to her emotionally. She bows her head in acknowledgement. Then she starts to tear up.

Whitney Houston at the American Music Awards in 1994, when she sang a medley of "I Loves You, Porgy", "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" and "I Have Nothing". She was at the peak of her remarkable vocal powers around that time and delivered her performance as though she were singing a 10-minute aria. She was spectacular.

Quality singers with superior voices don't have a chance right now. Even Michael Buble, who is as ordinary as they come said that he has to add autotune pro tools effect to sell his records. And he can actually sing. WTF?
Of course you don't need a great voice to give a best live singing performance but the best singers don't make it anywhere near the top of the charts and we never get to hear them. Jessie J competed on a Chinese singing competition! Week after week. She won by the way. She's not even my girl - It's thin and not beautiful her voice- but still she is one of the best and she's a real performer in a 90s kind of way. Long intro,, sorry. If this is an unassisted vocal - she's spectacular. What would the chinese do?

FYI, the Judy clip of Man That Got Away is not live- and Whitney singing the Stars Spangle Banner is lip synced (although still spectacular). Whitney had a hard time sustaining through a concert, even when healthy. Judy on the other hand blew the audience away, even when not healthy!
by Anonymous | reply 219 | October 10, 2019 4:10 PM |
Whitney was the best, with the most gorgeous and powerful voice - she is still the pinnacle of popular singing and stunning performances. Whitney had it all. She is still referenced everyday as the unreachable star. Her healthy voice was flawless and her abilities were technically astounding. Leontyne Price was a big fan of Whitney, as was most of the classical world.
by Anonymous | reply 220 | October 10, 2019 6:23 PM |
Thanks for posting that R214. I hadn't seen that one before. I liked most of it, but I felt her voice wasn't really the right type for "Lover Man", which I always associate with a jazzier sound like Anita Baker's. Houston nailed the other two songs, though. She elevates the otherwise awful song, "All the Man That I Need" to something meaningful with her vocals. That song, performed by any other singer, would sound like the banal pop-soul dreck that it is.
by Anonymous | reply 221 | October 10, 2019 7:46 PM |
And almost as if on cue, here comes the tedious bore Charlie to take a dig at Whitney Houston and praise his beloved Judy Gargoyle yet again. I'm surprised he didn't throw in a gratuitous reference to the greatness of Streisand as well.

R218. I'm not sure why Jessie J did it. I think she loves to sing and she just wanted a moment like this. Jessie loves Whitney. R218 The Chinese show Jessie J competed in is not a talent show like The X Factor. It's a show for established singers, but more classy than The Masked Singer (yes, there was a Chinese one too). Among the singers competing with Jessie J that season was Wang Feng, Zhang Ziyi's husband. In other seasons, competitors included Coco Lee (who sang for Mulan and Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon), Liu Huan (the Beijing Olympics theme song), Kit Chan (Singapore's National Day Parade theme song), and some winners of Eurovision, Slavianski Bazaar in Vitebsk, Taiwan's One Million Star and South Korea's I Am a Singer (which the Chinese show was originally based on). Rumor has it that Adam Lambert was slated to be in the show too, but he dropped out in the last minute.
The show is a surefire way to get famous in China. I think Jessie J just wanted to tap into a new market, a move proved to be very successful. She has always been bitter about the treatment she got back home in UK, though I'm not very sure why the British hate her so much.
Anyway, here's one of my favorite performances from the show, a La campanella-inspired Cantopop number by Hong Kong singer Hacken Lee ft. Lang Lang.

Whitney was not appropriately celebrated even when she was in her vocal prime and long before her personal troubles began to take a public toll. In the 80s, when every performance was flawless, her music, her "pop" vocals and her fashion were criticized. I think we really didn't know how special and unique she was until we realized there would never be another.

At least on DL most of the criticism and jokes about Whitney are from the insecure Judy/Barbra white elderqueen fan club who hate black women and feel threatened about women like Whitney, with their undeniable talent, overshadowing their favorites.

Datalounge thinks cruelty is witty. And sometimes it is. But not about Whitney.
Keep an open mind. A beautiful and raw performance by Rihanna. She's not the best singer by any imagination. But she's a very good performer. She wanted to sing better, even if her popularity said she didn't have to. She got better anyway.
The same cannot be said of Britney.

R241 I should put this in the unpopular music opinion thread, but Rihanna's voice is really not bad. In fact, it's quite nice and underrated. She's no Aretha, Patti, Gladys or Anita, but her voice really works for the music she sings: reggae-infused pop.

R277, I saw Leontyne in concert at the Met about 1980 (I had seen her a number of times in specific operas- Aida comes to mind). On several Puccini arias about half the house was crying. For my money she had (now past her prime surely still alive in 90s) the best voice of her generation and for me all of the great sopranos. She also has a wonderful personality and sense of humor. Google her interview for the 50th anniversary celebration of the Metropolitan Opera (Lincoln Center). She's a hoot.

Later as a solo artist, her "Heaven Is A Place On Earth" single was nominated for Top Female Performance in 1988 (beside Suzanne Vega, Carly Simon, Barbra Streisand & Whitney Houston).
Belinda's vocals were acknowledged by the music industry both as a group leader & a solo artist. She is in a small group with the likes of Annie Lennox & Cher that have been able to be nominated first as part of a group & later as a solo performer. Chew on that Negative Nancy.

by Anonymous | reply 290 | October 17, 2019 12:46 AM |
Celine is a superb singer, en Français. In her own language she is more nuanced and versatile. Here she keeps her voice a little guttural and placed forward in the facial mask, trapping the resonance to make a thicker and slightly more crude sound. Her vibrato is beautiful as ever, but more pronounced on purpose. She is singing not in the quebecois conversational french style that is her home but very much more like a Parisian chanteuse. A la Piaf. Emotional and generous. She can be bombastic, but she also has a gorgeous delicacy, precisely because it isn't all belted and her beautiful overtones chime like bells when she sings from the heart. Her status is no fluke. Celine is one of the greats.
by Anonymous | reply 291 | October 17, 2019 2:09 AM |
One more. This is one of Celine's most popular French songs. To understand Celine and to fully appreciate her voice - you must listen to her French recordings. Mary J. Blige is a great contemporary example of an emotive, affecting singer with limited vocal range. She is like a modern-day Billie Holiday.

Except that MJB doesn't recognize her vocal limitations and, instead of singing music that is within her very narrow range, insists on occasionally covering songs originally sung by vocal powerhouses such as Aretha Franklin and Chaka Khan. I am biased because I've never liked MJB's chipmunk voice and flat singing, but I'd have to object to comparisons with Billie Holiday, who was a master of interpretation and had an instinctive understanding of what suited her (limited) voice.
MJB should be whipped for what she did to "Sweet Thing" and "Natural Woman".

Those awful remakes are just a few songs in her relatively vast catalog. Her most memorable songs are well within her (limited) vocal range. She is a gifted interpreter. Like Billie, she is an acquired taste. I will admit that she is hit or miss in delivering her vocals live.

Ginette Reno is a legend in French Canada and Celine's heart was bursting for all to see, to sing with her again. Celine gave this spectacular free concert for 250,000 people. She sang so many songs, her voice was worn by this finale. It doesn't matter. C’était un cadeau sincère au Canada français, sous le ciel nocturne.

But it's not a best voice category thread or we'd be sickened by charlie and his pathological Streisand worship. It's a best live singing performance thread. That includes many good and singular voices hopefully. It's a bit more intangible than that. A good performer(s) at the top of their game. A bit of alchemy and performance ability that makes the vocal shine bright. There are lots of fine examples on this thread.
Whitney's aptly named One Moment in Time performance at the Grammys. I was only a kid that night, but I remember my father saying there are bells going off all over this damn house. She had been a big recording star for a few years by that point, but this performance took her to the stratospheric height of best singer in the world. Her voice did ring like church bells - she mixed her head voice and chest belts as well as Streisand, then outsang and performed her on every level. That was the night that the legend of Whitney Houston was born. The song is formalic and she knew it - it's a very hard song to sing. Whitney seized the moment of live performance and shattered the sound barrier in front of a 60 piece orchestra. Her voice RANG out. She shaded and built the rather awkward anthem with a tiny bit of soul and all the showmanship in her heart. Such resonance and power. It's not my favorite performance of hers, but even my grandma realized that Whitney was now the most thrilling singer in the world. She was beautiful AND the best.
It's a soulless white song more suited to Barbra or Celine in its structure. But as good as they are, neither could ever sing it with such clarity, resonance and thrilling power. That quality of Houston's top belting notes are unmatched in popular singing. (Barbra had a few good moments at a similar age) Whitney was only 24 years old and Clive had her dressed like a middle aged woman. She wasn't allowed to be herself. But she was still on the rise. She would become greater than this - but this was the moment that the world accepted Whitney as the best. Thirty years later she remains the best of all time.
by Anonymous | reply 362 | October 29, 2019 12:13 AM |
I truly adore Whitney and I have at times thought that Streisand was overrated (but never "soulless")
And then I'll wander over to YouTube and find some mind-blowing shit like this -- turns out Babs is 100% that bitch. She was just 23 years old here and she is more charismatic than 25 year old Whitney. Whitney may have had a superior vocal instrument but it was only slightly superior, and Streisand could soar to the height of her vocal range as effortlessly (and thrillingly) as Whitney.
I hate comparing them. Babs had way more freedom to do and explore than Whitney. Whitney was constrained by the times, her race, her boss and her misplaced sense of obligation.
by Anonymous | reply 363 | October 29, 2019 3:50 AM |
r362 People go to far in describing Whitney as Clive’s retarded lapdog at times. The man did not dress her.
by Anonymous | reply 364 | October 29, 2019 4:10 AM |
Wow. What about my praise offended your love of Barbra so much? They are so very different. But yes, Whitney was told how to dress R364 and who to love and who could supply her drugs. Who doesn't know this? Whitney looked good in everything, but she didn't begin to dress like herself until after 1994. Streisand's lifelong bad taste is all her own.
I love that performance R363. There's nothing bad to say about it. Babra at the start was spectacular. Her heart and voice and confidence were superlative. Technically she is the best popular singer of all time. Her voice was very pretty and her top notes spin into outer space - she has the most superlative vibrato of all time. But that performance is lip synched. It's a good song. So much better than her usual dreck. But it's lip synched, as was the whole last "live" portion of that TV special. Whitney lip synched once and charlene will never let us forget it.
Let's not compare.
by Anonymous | reply 365 | October 29, 2019 4:27 AM |
Indeed, r365. Just like with Whitney, Babs recorded the vocal track in one take. They aren't like those other basic b*tches who spend a year in the studio to produce an off-key track for lip-synching.
by Anonymous | reply 366 | October 29, 2019 4:43 AM |
R365 She had personal stylist just like any other celebrity but if you want to believe she was the most retarded person in the music world and completely subservient to massa Clive go right ahead. It seems more than a bit racist to me.

R373 lol, honey there are tons of threads with people ribbing on her voice and lack of ability. Maybe it's just trolls. Before I head off to work, I will post one more performance. A lot of people upthread got the opera performances I would have posted but one.
I know she's a difficult woman, but here Kathleen Battle sung the hell out of this ( Ah tardai troppo - O luce di quest'anima) . There are minor flaws with it, but I like how this fits her soubrette voice. I think she won an Emmy for this . You can see Aprile Mallo loving this in the background , and June Anderson nit-picking the performance in her head ( dare I say the undoubtedly more talented coloratura was a bit jealous) .

Yma Sumac could not have been an easy act to book, even at her prime. By 1984, she was most definitely in the category of 'Whatever happened to her?'
Then somehow, the Gods seemed to smile and she got this booking at The Ballroom. For some reason, it caught everyone's attention and she got some buzz going. Right place. Right time. She was incredibly lucky.
Then she gave an interview to the Village Voice which became notorious. The interviewer asked her to what she credited her longevity and she replied, "High Colonics." And then she went on and on about the importance of colon cleansing and her devotion to high colonics and on and on and on. It wasn't a good fit for a supper club.
That killed the buzz quickly. Most of the entertainment press would not risk a chat with her. I don't suppose the Ballroom management wanted to risk it, either. (I have no idea if Letterman preceded the Village Voice.) And so... pffft. When that booking ended, she was gone. At least from New York.

That's a lot of pressure that most singers never face. She's in her vocal prime and she just about perfectly spins out this annoying song. I have to laugh at the exaggeration here. Hundreds of millions of viewers for a show broadcast in1977, when most countries in Asia, Africa and South America probably didn't even watch the Academy Awards? And several hundred countries? The show isn't even broadcast in every country in the world now, let alone 40 years ago.

Streisand has never given a live vocal performance to match Whitney Houston's at the Grammys or the AMA's or the Rainforest Benefit Concert or at the Arista Anniversary Concert or the Mandela Concert or her young LIVE Wembley concert or her Radio City Music Hall, Montreal or Brazil Concerts from the Bodyguard tour. Or ANY moment from Moment of Truth, all around the world. Or the time she sang LIVE on Letterman or Joan Rivers or Welcome Home Heroes on HBO. Or why does it hurt so bad or I learned from the best on Leno or singing Cece's song from Japan. In return. Or this performance from the World Music Awards. Where her tone and delivery are both so perfect and soulful and understated. Her voice was so beautiful, her feeling for the music was divine. Whitney was so much more than beautiful and powerful. Diva was her sidework. She's was a wonderful singer with the most exceptional voice.
Barbar Streudel should have been nervous to sing that SHIT song EverGreen, but she could be even more embarrassed winning an Oscar for it. Streisand can't read or write music and the lyrics to that song are sophomoric. She attempted and executes the worst runs in the world. Whatever her contribution to GreenAgain - the song is vapid. It's hard to be a control freak superstar with a bad perm who hates to sing for people. Sing for that Oscar you unworthy bitch. The reason Striezand didn't like to sing live had little to do with stage fright and a lot to do with not being able to reproduce her recorded sound. And she never did. Not without lip synching. She displays always a cheapness of spirit, a noblesse spit to perform. Streisand didn't like singing and had NO generosity or warmth as a performer. A grand diva can be fun - but Streisand was outdone there too by many others.
Whitney SANG even better LIVE. With her sweetness, beauty, heart and DIVA on full display.

High as fuck and sweating her ass off - Whitney was still amazing. Her voice rings out over continents and decades. She shortens her phrases a bit and shouts a bit more than during her young vocal perfection, but her voice had gained in depth and power and agility. No loss of clarity or resonance. Just darker and more velvet tones and those gorgeous downtown runs and beautiful soulful trills and phrase ending. She's high but she's singing TO those people, not AT them. She gets stronger and stronger as she goes. Their are a lot of great singers in this world and a few who are also good performers. None better than Whitney. Some dude on here F&Fs anything to do with Whitney Houston AND keeps posting shit from Belinda Carlite and Trish sings from Home? His obsessed posts all have 7 or 8 or 9 W&W's??? Hilarious. Vote for yourself dude but don't hate on Whitney. Her fans are legion. Tens of millions of people still think her the best singer in the world. If you're not one, step off. Stop F&F people who praise her - you psycho freak.
Solid proof there is NO god exists - because Belinda Carlisle never fell and hit her head and drowned after a big hit of crack. There were thousands of opportunities for her to die that way. But she remains. Still unable to sing. Whitney Houston is gone. The greatest one of all.

It's not fair that Belinda Carlisle has a few mansions, multiple millions and on call liver donors available while old fat Trish has to sing herself to death from the youtube basement. And you F&F the Whitney and Celine posts and I guess anything else that is too representative of the thread category. Your's is an obvious and amusing pattern. Trish is nobody and who can listen to all that? Very nice Trish, but table number 7 needs clearing. I'm sure some coffee house enjoys her gifts for free. The thread title is best LIVE singing PERFORMANCES. Neither Trish or Belinda rate. Not to mention your weird John Denver posts and who the fuck is Laura Branihan? Whitney FULFILLS the category. There are great singers who aren't great performers and good performers who aren't among the great singers. Whitney was the greatest of both. But she's not the only one dude.
Belinda Carlisle was at most ...."pretty" Couldn't ever sing at all and performed like the whitest dumb chick from a film parody of the 1980s. I was a child. Yes, even when Whitney started. Regardless dude - you keep up with your faux naive shit. Continue voting up your own bizarre posts, as I said @ R423. You W&W your posts from multiple devices within moments of posting them and add more later when the system allows. You also F&F posts about the great singers and undeniable best performers of all time, as often as you can. You do this on other topics and threads as well but I am hesitant to say your name. Most people know who you are.
That Pat Benatar performance is great btw. She is a classically trained singer and she sounds beautiful singing "Shooting Star." It's a pity you can't tell the difference between who can sing and who has no ability to sing or perform. You're entitled to an opinion, but you're the one taking up space with stupid entries. Da thread is busy because of you. You start these threads all the time. For Tori Amos and Blinda Cartwright. I've posted a bit too. Stop up voting yourself or be prepared for a system reset. You sick fuck. Trish IS fat and old. Nobody was posting Whitney now. Your life stops when you die. She's not 48. She's dead. There's nothing wrong with fat and old, but Trish is an at home player. Nice voice.
I refuse to discuss Belinda Carlisle in the same sentence as the great Whitney Houston. People here know that you're nuts R426. Enjoy your crazy. Jussie Smollett let you down. He never went to prison you crazy ass racist fuck. And you had endless threads on him. I ain't hypocritical about age. I posted Gladys Knight @ R319 when she was 71 years old! A great singer who could still sing and perform her ass off with feeling and meaning. I also posted Springsteen, Beth Hart, Kathleen Battle, The Waterboys, Yolanda Adams, Kelly Clarkson, Adam Lambert, Natalie Cole, Al Green, Annie Lennox and I don't remember who else. I tried to stick to the thread title and category. I upvoted lots of performances that were vocally beautiful and LIVE. Who doesn't like Leontyne Price? Leontyne loves Whitney's voice btw...
Whitney Houston is not my favorite singer, though I do love her. BUT she DID give a number of the BEST LIVE SINGING PERFORMANCES EVER !!! Of course she has the overall greatest voice in pop music history too. Good luck with your crazy. You're entitled to it. So far.

Pavarotti sang nine high C's in a row in La Fille du Regiment because that's what Donizett wrote. Every tenor who sings the role sings the nine high C's.
The reason the crowd went crazy for Pavarotti is that he had a once in a lifetime gift and he was a young tenor at his vocal prime when he sang this performance. Here is the great Alfredo Kraus doing it at 59 years of age.

Sorry R427. I only have a desktop for internet access. No tablet or laptop for me. For the record, I don't care about W/W on threads to do what you are accusing me of.
I'm not a fan of Tori Amos but I am of Celine. That's someone else who did the Tori & Jussie Smollett threads ( I also haven't W/W Tori or Celine on this thread either).
If you block me (& I'm hoping that you will) then you can see I started posting songs rather late on this thread at R250 with the Blue Man Group song, K. McPhee, A. Lambert, Mama Cass, Julie Andrews, Natasha B., Thierry Amiel, Bette (Superstar), Song Of Joy, Say Something, the yodeler girl, Wildflower, Angel Baby & Forever Young (among others),
I also posted the live concerts of Tina Turner, Billy Idol, Taylor Dayne, The B-52's's & Sade.
The words you use to describe Belinda could apply more to Whitney = Dumb (WH died a drug related death but not BC who I guess "outsmarted" her), slutty (WH slept with lots of men & women-even for drugs), unprincipled & addicted = both words were used more for WH's public performances than BC's & WH even retired from the biz for awhile there due to her habits but BC never did). Bottom line people in glass houses should watch where they throw their stones.
You also forgot to post Whitney's greatest Australia performance down below (which Belinda Carlisle never happened to her in ALL of her 30+ drug years) =

Y'all are insane AND a liar R431. Your posts are as I said. You blitz your posts immediately with W&W's within moments of them posting them. From multiple devices. There are sometimes 5 W&Ws within 3 minutes of your post. Trust me nobody else is even listening to old fat drunk waitress Trish. Your response to criticism hallmarks you more clearly. You are the same old odd white dude here as on other threads. I don't care what you do. But I know what you do. And your posts did not start late nor will they ever end on this thread. You posted the lame Mama Cass and John Denver, all the Belinda nonsense. Laura Branihan and the poor fat waitress who always wanted to sing. What's her name with her guitar streaming live now from youtube. Old Dude, you ARE for sure the guy behind the Smollett threads and you won't convince me otherwise because I have further information.
I am a Whitney fan. We mourned her loss a decade before she died, as far as her voice was concerned. And we prayed for her to find a way to recover a healthy life and find some peace within. I will do the same for you. Whitney's magnificent voice was never coming back. But she never lost the ability to sing. When you have been the very greatest - she knew what she had lost and what she threw away. A tragedy. But we are not all meant to live forever. Whitney gains more fans each day and the sound of her voice and the beauty of her performances thrill new people each day. That's not true of the antiquated Streisand or even corny Celine. Whitney is a thrill to listen to and a mesmerizing person to watch sing. Celine is the greatest of that kind of singer still standing and a lovely strange woman who works hard to maintain her voice. A beautiful soul, but not an interesting one. But she - like Kelly C, Beyonce, Xtina, Britney, Gladys and even Mariah will be the first to tell you that Whitney is above them all. And always will be.
Blinda Carlight had no talent to lose. So we can be glad that she's still alive to do what she does. Off key singing and cocaine.

Why not dust around your performance space a little Trish? You won't choke so hard. And your son should tune his guitar.
I prefer Let Him Fly when a professional singer sings it. Alisan Porter, The Dixie Chicks or Patty herself can show you how it's done. That song takes real range, power and lyrical delicacy. Like here. Two of the best.
by Anonymous | reply 450 | November 10, 2019 7:10 PM |
Sorry R450. I'll stick with Trish's fine version.
Brooks & Dunn are repubs who have nice things to say about Trump & have supported GWB.

Also when they sing "Let Him Fly", you know they aren't talking gay & trans military pilots.

SHOWBIZ. A gifted and beautiful singer. Never mind that 26 second held note. But listen! Streisand could not do that. Mathis is before my time, but I know him from Datalounge. Then I explored. He's sexy in his confidence. This is far from his most impressive vocal performance but still undeniably great. There used to be a lot more excellence in singing. Everyday. On the tv? A great performance was a bit more rare because they were all so slick.
now there's sad old trish with her 37 views on youtube - providing singsong covers of old folk songs from her trailer. giving such a weak performance for 3 fucking hours takes stamina. when will she be on the tonight show?

Kelly's shimmering soprano and beautiful harmonizing were on full display in this duet. She still has prettiest head voice in the game, in addition to all her other vocal wows. The girl likes to belt and growl and jump octaves and show off everything she can do, but make no mistake - she's a first class vocalist. The contestant ain't bad either - a piercing country tenor.
