It's a / Making a Living

I can't stop watching this stupid show. I watched it Logo on my day off a few weeks ago. It amused me enough to set my DVR for it. I didn't know it was on 10 times a day. Now I'm addicted.

Some observations...

1. It's occasionally very funny

2. The acting is far less broad than most 80s sitcoms... even Crystal Bernard does well.

3. Whoever dressed the exceptional Marion Mercer HAD to have dressed Bea Arthur in Golden Girls. Same giant ruched, puffy -sleeved monstrosities. She pulled off about 75% of them though. Same producers, so it's very possible.

4. My major complaint: Why do these women dress up in super coordinated separates to go to work where they immediately change into uniforms? Is this wardrobe their car clothing?

5. Complaint Two: No fancy restaurant serves corn on the cob or pudding in diner parfait glasses.

Debra Winger is on the episode im watching now. She's the chef's daughter.

I don't think it was that fancy of a restaurant. If it was, the waitresses would not have worn halter tops as part of their outfit in the first season.

It was a restaurant atop a big hotel, but those are not necessarily that fancy.

It's weird to watch knowing Wendy Schaal was Valerie Harper's stepdaughter.

Watch this show every morning before going to work. Something very comforting about it. Met Paul Kreppal and Gail Edwards at an autograph show a few months ago. Both looked great and were very nice. Paul said one of the reasons the show hasn't been seen in awhile was the music rights issues with all the songs he sings. That's why some episodes are missing.

I was watching the reruns for awhile too but gave up sometime during the Sheryl Lee Ralph seasons. It's weird I remember liking it as a kid since there isn't much kid appeal to the show. That theme song is fabulous though and high-rise living seemed so glamorous in the 80s.
