Breaking: Whistleblower's Report is About Ukraine

It's not Putin.

The rumors have been swirling for months that the Dumpster Fire is withholding money authorised for their self-defense and extorting the Ukrainian president for personal gain.

He's been trying to force the Ukrainian to trump up some story about Joe Biden's kid to help the Orange Traitor get elected next year.

Let the good times roll.

by Anonymousreply 108September 25, 2019 7:11 PM

Even more hilarious if Warren gets the nom.

Shut the fuck up and get out. Fucking trash.

A whistleblower complaint about President Trump made by an intelligence official centers on Ukraine, according to two people familiar with the matter, which has set off a struggle between Congress and the executive branch.

The complaint involved communications with a foreign leader and a “promise” that Trump made, which was so alarming that a U.S. intelligence official who had worked at the White House went to the inspector general of the intelligence community, two former U.S. officials said.

Two and a half weeks before the complaint was filed, Trump spoke with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, a comedian and political newcomer who was elected in a landslide in May.

That call is already under investigation by House Democrats who are examining whether Trump and his attorney Rudolph W. Giuliani sought to manipulate the Ukrainian government into helping Trump’s reelection campaign. Lawmakers have demanded a full transcript and a list of participants on the call.

A White House spokesperson declined to comment.

The Democrats’ investigation was launched earlier this month, before revelations that an intelligence official had lodged a complaint with the inspector general. The Washington Post first reported on Wednesday that the complaint had to do with a “promise” that Trump made when communicating with a foreign leader.

by Anonymousreply 27September 20, 2019 4:25 AM

There have been rumors for months about the idiot trying like hell to get Ukraine to attack Joe Biden for him. What we didn't know was that the dumb orange son of a bitch did it blatantly on calls to the Ukraine and promised something. The rumor mill says that he promised to send the $250 million Congress authorized if the Ukranian comedian president comes up with something scandalous on Joe Biden's son.

The window for dispersing the $250 million is running out. If it closes it will have to be re-authorized. Ukraine needs it.

by Anonymousreply 28September 20, 2019 4:25 AM

Giuliani said that the Trump campaign contacted Ukraine because of Hunter Biden's contract with a Ukranian energy company when Biden was VP. Apparently they were trying to see if VP Biden pressured anyone in Ukraine to stop an investigation into the Ukranian energy company. The question is, was the Trump campaign trying to get people in Ukraine to claim that they were pressured by Biden in return for US foreign aid that Ukraine was due to get.

by Anonymousreply 29September 20, 2019 4:25 AM

R27, the link to the Washington Post article is at r4. The first several paragraphs are posted at R11.

If you don't like it, don't read it but do stop pretending it doesn't exist. I can see it, dear.

by Anonymousreply 30September 20, 2019 4:27 AM

And rumor has it it was Sue Gordon who was the whistleblower. She was second in command to Dan Coates. Dan Coates actually walked into a meeting Sue Gordon was having and told Gorden she needed to resign. At the time, Coates hasn't left his position but had made it known that he was going to resign in the next few days.

by Anonymousreply 31September 20, 2019 4:29 AM

I'm R35, but not R34 or R36. And OP/R37, you still haven't provided support for your assertion that the call wasn't to Putin.

by Anonymousreply 38September 20, 2019 4:42 AM

This is the Ukranian President/Comic. Zelenskiy.

Not attractive but still that's no reason for the fake president of the United States to extort some trumped up scandal out of him in exchange for the $250 million we already authorized to go to Ukraine.

by Anonymousreply 40September 20, 2019 4:45 AM

Early this morning I read a tweet where someone had connected the dots of events around the time when the complaint was lodged to Dan Coates. So it makes sense if it was Sue Gordon.

The story about Coates walking into the meeting and telling Gordon to resign is not speculation. It was reported on when it happened.

by Anonymousreply 41September 20, 2019 4:47 AM

Axios is saying the NYT has confirmed the Ukraine story in the Washington Post.

An alleged promise made between a foreign leader and President Trump recently reported by a whistleblower is said to involve Ukraine, 2 people familiar with the issue said, per a Washington Post report confirmed by the New York Times.

The state of play: On Aug. 12, a whistleblower filed a complaint with intelligence community inspector general Michael Atkinson, which he deemed "credible and urgent within the definition of the law." While the nature of Trump's alleged "promise" remains unclear, he spoke with newly elected Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky roughly 2 weeks before the complaint was submitted. Per the Post, that conversation is being investigated by House Democrats.

The House Foreign Affairs, Intelligence and Oversight committees launched an investigation in early September into alleged efforts by President Trump and his lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, to pressure the Ukrainian government into digging up dirt on former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, who once served on the board of a Ukrainian gas company.

It's not clear whether there is a connection between the Giuliani investigation and whistleblower complaint.

by Anonymousreply 45September 20, 2019 5:21 AM

Oh ho ho! So it WAS extortion against Ukraine and now the fucking weasel's trying to get out of it.

Reuters:

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Donald Trump's administration has released $250 million in military aid for Ukraine, U.S. senators said on Thursday, after lawmakers from both parties expressed concern that the White House had held up money approved by Congress.

The money is intended for use by Ukraine in its struggle with pro-Russian separatists backed by Moscow. Russia annexed Ukraine's Crimea region in March 2014.

Some Democrats had questioned whether the administration had withheld the money to put pressure on Ukraine's government to support Trump's re-election campaign by launching an investigation into one of Trump's main rivals in the 2020 U.S. election.

Of course, he did it in 2016. It’s in his nature.

by Anonymousreply 62September 20, 2019 9:42 PM

Oh, here before that Bizarro World banshee arrives to hysterically demand links that are right in front of her face...

The WSJ confirmation:

Trump Repeatedly Pressed Ukraine President to Investigate Biden’s Son Interactions under focus amid whistleblower complaint on U.S. president’s dealings with a world leader President Trump in a July phone call repeatedly pressured the president of Ukraine to investigate Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden ’s son, urging Volodymyr Zelensky about eight times to work with Rudy Giuliani, his personal lawyer, on a probe, according to people familiar with the matter.

“He told him that he should work with [Mr. Giuliani] on Biden, and that people in Washington wanted to know” if his lawyer’s assertions that Mr. Biden acted improperly as vice president were true, one of the people said. Mr. Trump didn’t mention a provision of U.S. aid to Ukraine on the call, said this person, who didn’t believe Mr. Trump offered the Ukrainian president any quid-pro-quo for his cooperation on any investigation.

Mr. Giuliani in June and August met with top Ukrainian officials about the prospect of an investigation, he said in an interview. The Trump lawyer has suggested Mr. Biden as vice president worked to shield from investigation a Ukrainian gas company with ties to his son, Hunter Biden. A Ukrainian official earlier this year said he had no evidence of wrongdoing by Mr. Biden or his son. Share Your Thoughts

What questions does this raise in advance of next week’s hearing with the acting director of national intelligence? Join the conversation below.

After the July call between the two presidents, the Ukrainian government said Mr. Trump had congratulated the new president on his election and expressed hope that his government would push ahead with investigations and corruption probes that had stymied relations between the two countries.

The White House declined to comment. The Biden campaign didn’t respond to a request for comment. Last week, a Biden campaign spokesman said of Mr. Giuliani’s efforts to pressure Ukraine: “This is beneath us as Americans.”

Mr. Trump on Friday defended his July call with Mr. Zelensky as “totally appropriate” but declined to say whether he had asked the Ukrainian leader to investigate Mr. Biden, a former U.S. vice president. “It doesn’t matter what I discussed,” he said.

At the same time, he reiterated his call for an investigation into Mr. Biden’s effort as vice president to oust Ukraine’s prosecutor general. “Somebody ought to look into that," he told reporters.

In recent months, Mr. Giuliani has mounted an extensive effort to pressure Ukraine to do so. He told The Wall Street Journal he met with an official from the Ukrainian prosecutor general’s office in June in Paris, and met with Andriy Yermak, a top aide to Mr. Zelensky in Madrid in August. Mr. Giuliani told the Journal earlier this month that Mr. Yermak assured him the Ukrainian government would “get to the bottom” of the Biden matter.

The August meeting came weeks before the Trump administration began reviewing the status of $250 million in foreign aid to Ukraine, which the administration released earlier this month. Mr. Giuliani said he wasn’t aware of the issue with the funds to Ukraine at the time of the meeting.

He said his meeting with Mr. Yermak was set up by the State Department, and said he briefed the department on their conversation later. The State Department had no immediate comment.

The interactions between the president, Mr. Giuliani and Ukraine have come under scrutiny in recent days in the wake of a whistleblower complaint that a person familiar with the matter said involves the president’s communications with a foreign leader. The complaint, which the Washington Post reported centers on Ukraine, has prompted a new standoff between Congress and the executive branch.

Separately, lawmakers have been investigating whether the president or his lawyer sought to pressure the Ukrainian government to pursue probes in an effort to benefit Mr. Trump’s re-election bid.

What bothers me is that none of the pundits mention that there was never any proof that Joe or Hunter did anything wrong. As usual Trump will get away with this extortion, because reporters do not stick up for those who are being slandered. Thanks a lot, CNN. Trump plays everyone, per usual.

It's pretty hard to prove a negative, especially since we do not know yet even what this is all about.

But you sound FRANTIC to prove this somehow involves Putin. You've posting a storm about this for the last 24 hours all over Datalounge, and attacking anyone who suggests for even a second this does not involve Putin.

He will be impeached in the House. He's FORCING them to do it. Everyone knows that Speaker Pelosi is dead set against it! She's been fighting it while allowing her caucus members to come out publicly in favor of Impeachment in twos and threes every week for months. Wow... what a huge coincidence that the House support would build slowly and deliberately like that - against the Speakers very PUBLIC wishes, and yet she did not make them pay a price for it. Hm.. interesting.

And at the very same time... the Speaker has allowed all the relevant House Committees to move forward when she could have stopped them any old time she wanted. Hm... interesting.

The whole world knows the Speaker is AGAINST impeachment. Think of her House moderates! Think of the election! The Speaker is a cautious and politically prudent person. She's not rushing to judgement - heavens no!

by Anonymousreply 81September 20, 2019 10:59 PM

Vice President Biden released a statement about this:

[bold] "If these reports are true, then there is truly no bottom to President Trump’s willingness to abuse his power and abase our country," Biden said in a statement Friday evening. "This behavior is particularly abhorrent because it exploits the foreign policy of our country and undermines our national security for political purposes. It means that he used the power and resources of the United States to pressure a sovereign nation — a partner that is still under direct assault from Russia — pushing Ukraine to subvert the rule of law in the express hope of extracting a political favor." [/bold]

Asked by reporters after a campaign event in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, about reports that Trump wanted Biden's son Hunter to be investigated by the Ukrainian government, Biden offered only a brief comment defending his son.

(Biden walked into a press feeding frenzy after an event, they literally swarmed him and surrounded him outside, all them clamoring at once.)
“Whoa, whoa, whoa ... wait a second. Not one single credible outlet has given credibility to these assertions. Not one single one," Biden said as he left a nature center where he had spoken at a town hall on climate issues. "So I have no comment other than the president should start to be president.”

[italic] Rudy Giuliani’s Ukrainian adventure

President Trump’s personal lawyer appears to have crossed a line

Editor’s note (September 20th 2019): American newspapers have reported that a whistleblower in America’s intelligence services has complained about an unspecified commitment made by President Donald Trump in a telephone call with a foreign leader, among other actions. At least part of the complaint, they say, concerns Ukraine. This article, from this week’s print edition, explains the background to the deepening controversy connecting America’s domestic politics and Ukraine.

OF ALL THE meetings that will take place between heads of state at the United Nations in New York next week, the one between Presidents Donald Trump and Volodymyr Zelensky (pictured), a comedian turned president of Ukraine, may be the strangest. Last month, as Ukraine’s government was trying to negotiate the release of its prisoners from Russia, it received news from Washington. The White House had frozen $250m of military assistance to Ukraine that had already been approved by Congress until further review. The administration set no criteria or time frame for the review. But a month earlier, in a telephone conversation with Mr Zelensky, then newly elected, Mr Trump said he was “convinced the new Ukrainian government would be able to quickly improve the image of Ukraine and complete the investigations of corruption cases, which inhibited the interaction between Ukraine and the USA.” [/italic]

by Anonymousreply 91September 20, 2019 11:49 PM

Really, R88?

Because the way I remember it is that Joe Biden spent 36 years in the United States Senate - no shit was sticking to him. He was Chair of the Judiciary Committee during the Anita Hill Scandal about Clarence Thomas - no shit was sticking to him. He was President Obama's Vice President for eight years - no shit was sticking to him.

And now he's been the front-runner for the Democratic nomination for MONTHS and no shit is sticking to him. We give NO fucks what you freaks say about him. None. We don't care, baby. Hunter? Meh. We don't care what he did.

We like Biden and you can't do a fucking thing about it.

We hate the Dumptard and you can't do a fucking thing about that either.

He tried to extort some fake scandal about Hunter or Biden from Ukraine and Ukraine wouldn't (and won't) do it.

Choke and die, you lying fucking sack and scumsucking pig. Biden wins this one, Dumptard is taking the hit full-on this time. Nobody cares what his illiterate, white supremacist base thinks, they're retards. He can Wag the Dog all he likes, it won't help this time.

It's all about the 'burbs, baby, and we've got them.

by Anonymousreply 92September 20, 2019 11:56 PM

Trump has lost the burbs in the 2016 battleground states. He can't hold them.

See you in.... where was Parscale fantasizing about? Oh, right, New Mexico! Hahahahahaha.

Yeah, see you in Santa Fe, babe.

by Anonymousreply 93September 20, 2019 11:58 PM

R92 Biden started his campaign apologizing about Anita Hill. He was persona non grata before Obama made him his vice president. Nobody gave a shit about Biden. He already ran for president a couple times and was a loser. He couldn’t even get through the early primaries.

by Anonymousreply 94September 21, 2019 12:05 AM
Dumpster Fire fucked it up this time. Ghouliani fucked it up too. They can try to cover but it won't work.

Uhhhh, where have you been these past two years? We've been living in a nightmare BIZARRO WORLD in which whatever the fat orange fuck does, he gets away with it.

Don't be so sure with this tidbit. It will be obfuscated and then explained away by the GOP, Fox News, and his asshole base.

by Anonymousreply 95September 21, 2019 12:07 AM

Vice President Biden spent 36 successful years as a leader in the United States Senate, R94.

He successfully chaired the Judiciary Committee before and AFTER Clarence Thomas.

He spent eight successful years as Vice President of the United States by President Obama's side. President Obama continues to be the most popular politician in America.

If you don't like him, that's fine, support whomever you choose in the primaries. You can't erase his many, many successful years of public service as a US Senator and as Vice President of the United States.

Also, dear, just a heads up that we aren't doing the cannibal thing this cycle. Better luck next time.

Trump and Ghouliani's Quest for Fake "Dirt" on Biden, An Explainer:

(this is an excerpt - full article at the link)

The reporter’s questions to Pence struck at the heart of a controversy roiling U.S.-Ukraine relations since even before Zelenskyy’s election win in April. Starting at least late last year, President Donald Trump and his personal attorney and advisor, Rudy Giuliani, have agitated for Ukraine to investigate former Vice President Biden, the current frontrunner in the Democratic presidential race and the candidate they apparently think could be Trump’s biggest rival for a second term.

Trump and Giuliani allege, contrary to evidence, that Biden improperly pressured the Ukrainian government in 2016 to fire then-Prosecutor General Viktor Shokin in the midst of a corruption investigation of one of Ukraine’s biggest gas companies, Burisma Group. Biden’s youngest son, Hunter, was serving on the company’s board at the time.

But the prosecutor, in fact, was the target of pressure by Ukrainian anti-corruption advocates and a host of international supporters of Ukraine, who argued he should be fired for failing to pursue major cases of corruption. And it was the widely known and publicly espoused position of the U.S. government, across a half dozen agencies, that the prosecutor’s ouster was among crucial anti-corruption measures that the Ukrainian government needed to take to move forward economically and politically. As President Barack Obama’s point man on Ukraine, Biden dutifully relayed those messages at every opportunity.

Yet Trump and Giuliani have turned that real-life scenario on its head, falsely alleging that Biden sought to corruptly influence a Ukrainian prosecutor’s decisions in his son’s favor. The Trump camp’s steady volley of tweets, interviews and supportive articles by pro-Trump authors echoes the persistent Republican accusations against Hillary Clinton related to the Sept. 11, 2012, attacks on Benghazi, Libya, when she was Secretary of State.

At the very least, because of the complexity of the issue and the again-distant locale, the hammering on the Bidens’ roles in Ukraine could at least serve up enough disinformation to confuse American voters about what really is true. The anti-Biden campaign may be designed in no small part to make voters believe that, as disinformation expert Peter Pomerantsev has said of current-day Russian propaganda, “nothing is true and everything is possible.”

I lived in a former soviet from Oct 1999-Oct 2000. NONE of this is surprising.
Hey OP!

Yes?
I'm the "banshee"

Uh-huh.
that was pressing you about the call not being with Putin.

Is that the limited way that you remember what you posted last night? Interesting.
Now that more info has come out, I admit you were right and I was wrong. Kudos to you. Can we be friends now? I think we're both on the same team.

While it's certainly adequate of you to almost acknowledge that you were completely wrong last night, let's take a look at what you actually posted to me and about me and determine if you are, indeed, the sort of person with whom one is "friends" on an anonymous website, shall we?

[bold] OP is false. FF. No link and no sources have excluded any country. Only that it is related to Ukraine.

OP IS SPREADING FALSE INFORMATION. THIRD SHOFT HAS ARRIVED. THAT REPORT DOES NOT STATE THAT THE CALL WAS WITH UKRAINE. ONLY THAT IT WAS ABOUT UKRAINE.

“It's not Putin.” Where is the link for this fake disinformation? Third shift at it again.

Thread closed.

BINGO [R14]! At least someone is paying attention and instead of cherry picking quotes to fan disinformation OR Some lightweight idiot skimming an article and rushing to post with zero insight.

OP made it up.

Go to the other threads on this. They were doing just fine without OPs disinformation. The source has been outed as a male and you would know that if you were reading the legit threads.

It's not clear whether there is a connection between the Giuliani investigation and whistleblower complaint. Someone is really trying to conflate these two issues. [/bold]

Ah. Well there we have it.

And you say you are my "friend" today? Umm.... yeah. No.

I'm so sorry, my dear, you are clearly not "friend" material. You're a shrieking psycho cunt from hell who should go lie down for a few years or perhaps permanently.

I don't need or want hysterical psychos on "my side" of anything. You're a fucking liability.

But thanks so much for your non-apology apology, your entire post to me today was.... er.. downright trumptardian in it's weaselly cowardice. Kudos!

Two guys were livid on Chris Matthews' show tonight. Berating the Democrats for a flaccid, wishy-washy response to Trump's egregious acts. They can't seem to make anything happen.

Should Nadler be replaced?

In case anyone missed this in the day's excitement, Speaker Pelosi's comment on the Dumpster Fire's Ukraine/Whistleblower/Extortion scandal:

Pelosi Statement on Whistleblower Complaint September 20, 2019 Press Release

Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi issued this statement after reports of a whistleblower complaint filed by a member of the Intelligence Community, which is being withheld from Congress in violation of federal law:

“Reports of a reliable whistleblower complaint regarding the President’s communications with a foreign leader raise grave, urgent concerns for our national security. We must be sure that the President and his Administration are conducting our national security and foreign policy in the best interest of the American people, not the President’s personal interest.

“The Director of National Intelligence Inspector General, who was appointed by President Trump, has said that the complaint is both of ‘urgent concern and credible,’ and its disclosure ‘relates to one of the most significant and important of the Director of National Intelligence’s responsibilities to the American people.’

“The Administration’s blocking of Acting DNI Joseph Maguire from providing Congress with the whistleblower complaint violates the federal statute, which unequivocally states that the DNI ‘shall’ provide Congress this information. If the President has done what has been alleged, then he is stepping into a dangerous minefield with serious repercussions for his Administration and our democracy. The President and Acting DNI’s stonewalling must end immediately, and the whistleblower must be provided with every protection guaranteed by the law to defend the integrity of our government and ensure accountability and trust.

"Chairman Adam Schiff and the Intelligence Committee are to be commended for their strong leadership to ensure Congress is provided all the information so that we can fulfill our responsibility to protect the American people and our national security. We will continue to follow the facts and explore every possible option to ensure the American people get the truth. We would hope that Republicans would join us in supporting the Constitution.”

Also worthy of note, the news programs are covering the Ukraine Extortion Scandal as the Top Story, not the Dumpster Fire sending some troops out to Wag the Dog.

And when they mention this troop deployment, they say WAG THE DOG about it. Hahahahahaha.

Hey OP! It's me again. R83. The guy who admitted to being wrong. After reading your response at R99, I realize that I'm not the banshee you were looking for. None of the posts you listed in your reply were made by me. I'm actually R14. (Put me on Ignore and you'll see.) I assumed you were referring to me because I did keep pressing you to offer support that (at that particular moment in time) it had been confirmed that the call was not with Putin. I never thought I was being a "shrieking psycho cunt" about it, but I've been on DL long enough to know that even innocuous comments can set someone off. So, while I'm not the poster that made the posts you referenced, I still want to admit I was wrong and you were right. And I'm still on the team of the good and just, even if you don't want to claim me.

by Anonymousreply 103September 21, 2019 1:47 AM

Your protestation and claim of innocence are duly noted, R103.

We'll see how it goes.

by Anonymousreply 104September 21, 2019 2:24 AM

Trump's claims about Biden sound like Uranium One, Pt. II. Watch the idiot Republican base fall for it again.

by Anonymousreply 105September 21, 2019 10:34 AM

Of course they will, they're stupid.

We don't care what trump tards believe. They're STUPID.

by Anonymousreply 106September 25, 2019 2:06 AM
(Put me on Ignore and you'll see.)
