Yes, years ago when at the beach and my stuff only consisted of my blanket, towel, a couple of dollars and lunch. Now my stuff includes phone, credit card and car remote. So, no. I take it with me and/or don't let it out of my sight while I wade in up to my ankles.

Yes. It's a nice a way to communicate to a stranger that you are stepping away and if someone else comes to grab your stuff maybe sound an alarm.

People are obvlious and in their own world, they need that push.
