Denver's creepy airport

Has anyone here been there? Is it as creepy as they say?

A quick google maps search turns up that there are no hotels on site, which is extremely rare for any major city airport. But I could be wrong.

by Anonymousreply 68October 3, 2019 9:06 PM

I've been there. Yes.

by Anonymousreply 1September 17, 2019 12:43 AM

No it's not creepy. Just an average airport. And there is a Westin.

by Anonymousreply 2September 17, 2019 12:45 AM

It does have an on-site airport, this cool (design) Westin

That's why I said ¨I could be wrong¨.

by Anonymousreply 4September 17, 2019 12:48 AM

We love DEN.

It’s in the middle of nowhere but it’s fine.

by Anonymousreply 6September 17, 2019 12:49 AM

Bring your emotional support elephant and you’ll be fine.

by Anonymousreply 7September 17, 2019 12:50 AM

It appears that the Weston Hotel there is quite new or of recent construction. So they spend around 20 years without any hotel on-site.

by Anonymousreply 8September 17, 2019 12:52 AM

There's a bar where you can smoke. People were smoking everything. It closes rather early, 10pm maybe?

by Anonymousreply 9September 17, 2019 12:53 AM

The Westin has been open for five years.

by Anonymousreply 10September 17, 2019 12:55 AM

One of the other bars (non-smoking) had a large range of good local crafted beer, tap and bottles.

by Anonymousreply 11September 17, 2019 12:57 AM

Also, they have a LOT of runways, like 6 or so. Is the traffic of that airport THAT much, that they need that many runways?

by Anonymousreply 12September 17, 2019 12:57 AM

I understand they have a Westin. OP. Has anyone mentioned this?

by Anonymousreply 13September 17, 2019 12:58 AM

It was busy when we were there. It's a stopover from the east to Vegas.

by Anonymousreply 14September 17, 2019 12:58 AM

What OP is alluding to is that the Denver Airport is alleged to be a cover for some scary, secret illuminati/government stuff.

Just say it for Gods' sake.

I've seen some strange things covered on you tube but who knows.

At this point I'm not sure of anything anymore.

by Anonymousreply 15September 17, 2019 1:05 AM

I dont think its creepy at all and it is relatively new. I lived in Denver when it was being built and took a tour before it opened. I like the airport. However the runways were built on the tail end western edge of the Eastern Colorado tonado zone.

by Anonymousreply 18September 17, 2019 1:14 AM

I the Westin is full, there's always the Overlook. Enjoy your stay.

We flew out of Denver back in 1999. It had a weird vibe and I thought this way before I had heard of the weird Illuminati shit. It was just a weird place.

by Anonymousreply 20September 17, 2019 1:22 AM

When the airport first opened, there were several murals that graphically depicted scenes of apocalypse, war, and genocide. Not sure if they're still there.

by Anonymousreply 21September 17, 2019 1:23 AM

It wasn't the original Denver airport. That was in a neighborhood called Stapleton, which did have (and still has) several large hotels.

The new airport was built 25 years ago, and they have been slow to build hotels right next to the airport, but mostly I believe because they wanted to ensure the land around the airport remained undeveloped. A wise move since Denver has had explosive growth and will probably need more runways soon.

by Anonymousreply 22September 17, 2019 1:24 AM

r22 see r17

The airport was Stapleton, not the neighborhood

by Anonymousreply 23September 17, 2019 1:29 AM

Denver International Airport (DIA, also known by its IATA code "DEN" or ICAO code "KDEN") has accreted a collection of conspiracy theories. These theories most commonly claim that DIA is a new, secret (?) headquarters or compound used by the Illuminati, New World Order, Neo-Nazis, or Reptoids. These claims are usually based on an alleged swastika shape that the runways and taxiways make when seen from the air, as well as murals, sculptures, and other engravings claimed to be secret code or "alien" language.

Why do those people think that the DIA is the new home of the New World Order? What could there be hiding in plane sight?

Well Blucifer is there. Apocalyptic horse of doom.

Offsite Link
by Anonymousreply 25September 17, 2019 1:32 AM

I was disappointed that Blucifer wasn't visible from any of the windows I found when I had a several-hour layover there.

The airport does have a nice variety of food vendors though, including a surprisingly good stir fry place.

by Anonymousreply 26September 17, 2019 1:42 AM

[quote]Also, they have a LOT of runways, like 6 or so. Is the traffic of that airport THAT much, that they need that many runways?

They based the design of the airport on ATL, which, though busier, has one fewer runway.

by Anonymousreply 27September 17, 2019 1:47 AM

There’s also a plaque dedicated to the Freemasons there. It is a weird collection of things, if nothing else: a blue devil horse, murals of dead children and machine guns and gas masks, gargoyles, a secret society monument. The builders were practically begging for conspiracy theories.

by Anonymousreply 28September 17, 2019 1:48 AM

You need 6 runways to create a swastika

by Anonymousreply 29September 17, 2019 1:50 AM

I heard they just opened a Westin on-site. How creepy can it be?

by Anonymousreply 30September 17, 2019 1:52 AM

[quote] Has anyone here been there?

No, no one. That's why it's so creepy. No one has ever been there--we just know it exists.

by Anonymousreply 31September 17, 2019 1:57 AM

The rumor was that it has tunnels connecting to that huge base built into the mountain somewhere in Colorado. The emergency White House in case of nuclear war. The higher ups would travel from DC/NYC etc to that airport and then be transported. The midlevels (if lucky enough to get military transport) would come in second and third rounds and be transported. There is room in that mountain bunker for like 10,000 people supposedly.

by Anonymousreply 32September 17, 2019 1:58 AM

What's creepiest of all is that it has a Westin that no one ever mentions.

by Anonymousreply 33September 17, 2019 1:59 AM

The vibes there are definitely off. It gave me major chills. Something is very wrong there.

by Anonymousreply 34September 17, 2019 2:01 AM

You are confusing Rocky Flats, where they made and stored plutonium, with the airport. Why do you think all those tales of Bubonic Plague amongst the Prairie Dogs are in the media? To keep civilians away. Also the emergency white house is under Cheyenne Mountain, in Colorado Springs. not the airport.

by Anonymousreply 35September 17, 2019 2:02 AM

Why didn't Bush fly there on 9/11 instead of Nebraska? Those mountain tunnels sound really safe.

by Anonymousreply 36September 17, 2019 2:03 AM

I'd read that Cheyenne Mountain is no longer NORAD HQ, that having moved to Peterson Air Base instead. Did the civilian government emergency command center stay at the former?

by Anonymousreply 37September 17, 2019 2:20 AM

Don't check for THC products :) - unless you have a fucking suitcase full. Hit a dispensery before I left, was sweating bullets through TSA then nothing. Got the United lounge popped a taffy and had the best flight home.

by Anonymousreply 39September 17, 2019 2:37 AM

I went to school in Colorado. Flew in to Stapleton from NY. When you walked from the gates to the terminal proper, there was a huge west-facing window; you could see the Rockies!! Ten minute bus ride to downtown Denver. The new airport IS in the middle of nowhere (at least 40 minute drive from Denver). However, there is plenty of public transit and the train goes to 16th St. downtown bus station.

The airport architecture is designed to be a ship in full sail, with about 8 sails. It's stunning as you first see it on the way. The Westin is attached to the airport and is gorgeous.

But I miss the old Stapleton airport....

by Anonymousreply 40September 17, 2019 3:05 AM

Beware that the local “Day Inn” is not a “Days Inn”. It has mice and is a no tell motel, if it’s still there.

by Anonymousreply 41September 17, 2019 3:27 AM

[quote]The airport architecture is designed to be a ship in full sail, with about 8 sails.

I think it is supposed to mimic teepees and/or the mountains.

I travel there for work with regularity.

The supposedly creepy parts are the tunnels that connect the various terminals. When you are there you don't notice them as you are busy trying to navigate the huge AF terminals.

If you are a regular, you further don't notice them because you also know that you are literally 30 miles outside of Denver and still have a long way to go before your journey is over. The airport is basically in Kansas.

They do have stress relief dogs that make appearances from time to time. My favorites are Scar and Meowgli.

by Anonymousreply 43September 17, 2019 4:17 AM

It IS in the middle of nowhere. The old airport (Stapleton) was hemmed in by new developments and couldn't be expanded - plus there was inadequate space between runways so flights often backed up, and neighboring communities were screaming about noise restrictions, skyscrapers in Denver had to have height limits so that flights could approach the airport, etc etc. The old airport was closer to the mountains, and flying could be terrifying at takeoff because of tremendous updrafts and air turbulence as weather systems either came over the mountains or hit the mountains coming from the plains. But as other have mentioned, since the airport is far out into the plains, it is much more vulnerable to tornadoes and severe weather. The new airport is fine as as a transition airport between flights, and you can get plenty of exercise walking up and down the concourses while you wait. On the other hand, it's a nightmare when your flight out is canceled and you have to stay overnight - because you have to travel 20 miles to the nearest motel and back again if you don't want to pay Westin prices or if the Westin is fully booked. It's only creepy if you're some sort of hysterical sort who believes that Pizzagate was real.

by Anonymousreply 44September 17, 2019 6:13 AM

When I visited a college pal 18 years ago, he said it was hypocritical to make it look like giant teepees, as it was built on Native American land (well, all the land was originally theirs, and he is part Navaho). They also expected that a string of miracle mile hotels and restaurants would be built along the route to the airport, but that hasn't happened. Instead, it's a long spooky drive where it seems to always be in the distance, like that creepy amusement park in Carnival of Souls (which is in Saltair, Utah)

There is an eerie feeling, and rightfully so. There are underground tunnels which are used by the military (they criss cross this entire nation, and they're enormous) The murals and art have a biblical-esque flavour with a dash of post-apocalyptic hell to boot. That's a wicked combo if anyone asks me. It's been nearly two years since I've been, but have heard some of the more distressing murals are gone, or partially painted over now. I'd be curious to hear if this is true. The tunnels are quite real, as are the machines used to bore them out. I don't know why so many claim it isn't true. One doesn't need to buy into illuminati BS to research their existence.

by Anonymousreply 49September 26, 2019 6:08 PM

That “creepy” feeling that you get is probably due to the high altitude. Sometimes when I walk across terminal B between gates I feel like I can’t breathe.

R24 —what could there be hiding in “plane” sight? I see what you did there 😏

by Anonymousreply 50September 26, 2019 6:11 PM

Every modern airport is over an extensive tunnel system. Draining, baggage transport, machinery , fueling, etc. With it's central geographic poisition it would not actually surprise me there is a government bunker as well but there is not one "the" emergency White House. The hollowed out mountain at Mount Weather is the primary site but there are others.

by Anonymousreply 51September 26, 2019 7:01 PM

Is there a memorial to the Columbine victims there?

by Anonymousreply 52September 26, 2019 7:24 PM

"Stapleton" is both the nane of the former airport and the section of Denver it was in. That section of Denver has been mostly redeveloped into housing tracts. The control tower is all that is left of the old airport. We went through that airport when I was a kid, but my memories of it are hazy. I've been through the new airport one, and it just felt lke another generic soulless mega-airport to me. Bit of trivia: "Denver" came from the words "golden" and "silver."

by Anonymousreply 53September 26, 2019 7:36 PM

I was fisted there once against my will. I am still unsure if it was the handiwork of an alien or a United flight attendant.

by Anonymousreply 54September 26, 2019 8:00 PM

I never heard the area called Stapleton, r53. I always considered it part of Aurora.

by Anonymousreply 55September 26, 2019 11:59 PM

Fly out of there several times a year. Nice airport, but usually very busy

Is LAX the biggest airport in the US?

by Anonymousreply 56September 27, 2019 12:31 AM

Atlanta. ^

by Anonymousreply 57September 27, 2019 12:33 AM

I'm from Denver but in Los Angeles for the last 20 years. Come to think of it yes, and I go back couple times a year. I think it is the subway's that make it that was and also the misery of what is underneath it. Also, the murals can be taken with different meanings.

by Anonymousreply 58September 27, 2019 12:53 AM

[quote]Also, they have a LOT of runways, like 6 or so. Is the traffic of that airport THAT much, that they need that many runways?

Part of the conspiracy theory is something about how the old airport was able to service many more people than the current one.

by Anonymousreply 59September 27, 2019 1:12 AM

R25

And Blucifer also killed the artist that made him.

by Anonymousreply 60September 27, 2019 1:13 AM

Sometimes the idiocy on Datalounge saddens me. It is not that hard to realize that the new Denver airport is simply one of the largest airports in the country. Stapleton was tiny and in a bad location due to wind issues that left flights in and out more vulnerable to accidents.

Yet people like R59 still take mistruths and conspiracy theories to the contrary otherwise.

Just stay in the porn threads or other low IQ topics like "Rate my Toothpaste"

by Anonymousreply 61September 27, 2019 1:59 AM

Your reading comprehension saddens me.

by Anonymousreply 62September 27, 2019 2:04 AM

I go through there a couple of times a year. I don't get a creepy vibe from it, but there's a long list of weird conspiracies about the airport.

It's really remote and seems to take forever to get to Downtown.

Car rental rates also seem really expensive there. A lot of the times though if you book last minute the rate will drop significantly, but not always.
